Please do keep us posted on what is happening with the seat. I have an Odyssey EX-cloth and it is causing me serious back pain. When we tested drove the EX-leath, I noticed the seat issue. I thought I can avoid the problem by going to the cloth model. But it wasn't the case.

Can anyone tell me, is the navigation system worth the money?
Anyone have any particular likes or dislikes?
I would love to know.
Thanks,
Michelle
Is it noticeably quieter? We're considering going from a 2000 to a 2005, but road noise is really the only reason. If it's not a big difference we'll probably wait. Thanks for any info.
They are really great for out of state driving. It's nice to know how far you are from your destination, it seems to make the trip seem shorter.
When in another city or state, you don't have to worry about getting lost or missing a freeway exit and driving another 15 miles to the next one. The nav units give you plenty of time to get into the correct lane for an exit or interchange (especially when a freeway exit is on the left). I think it improves safety since you can keep your eyes on the road and not constantly look for street signs or highway overheads.
These nav units have probably saved me and the wife dozens of arguments since no one can be blamed for getting lost. The Honda (made by Alpine) has a nice big screen which is easy to see both day and night.
The voice prompts are good when travelling long distances since it will remind you of an upcoming change in direction.
I usually use the touchscreen data entry since the voice recognition is spotty on accuracy and is more of a gimmick.
One thing my Garmin has (I still use it when we rent cars when we fly out of state) is a display of the next cross-street. This is handy if you haven't programmed a destination but are looking to turn on a particular street.
The Garmin also has a satellite info screen which, among other things, constantly displays elevation. It is interesting to use when travelling through mountains.
There are times when the unit does not plan the most efficient or direct route, but you WILL get to your destination. This can be forgiven considering the huge data base it contains.
All in all, I literally feel "lost" when driving without a nav unit.
Considering the nav unit is included with the dvd system in the Touring model, I am very happy with it.
Good luck,
Rick

Seems to be what you intended.
(I'll have my lawyer review the member agreement to see if I'm in violation for this or not. ;-) )
If you read that, doesn't look like Honda is about to go out of business, not having record months.
Accord sales down slightly YTD, but up a bit in March. Hard to tell what that means, but still on pace for 280K plus sales for the year (if I got the numbers right).

1) Navigation system
2) Back-up camera
3) Rear entertainment system
4) XM radio
If your additional cost for the package is less than $4000 (compared to a non-R&N), and you want/need at least 2 or 3 of the features, yes, it's worth the money.
If you want/need all four, it is well worth the money. My cost was an extra $3415 on my Touring (purchased at invoice) and I consider it just about the best money I've ever spent.
However, if you only want/need the navigation system then, no, you most likely will be much better off with an aftermarket unit.
The thing I like best about the nav system is the large screen size - it's perfect for my aging eyes! It is also nice that the default display is map mode. The system is vastly superior to that in my wife's '05 Pilot.
The Navigation System is worth every penny...
It has a back up camera - in reverse you can see behind the Van
It has voice command - you can tell it to raise the temp, play a cd, etc
It has information - maps/resturants/banks/etc
XM radio was an added bonus
I have only had my Ody for 3 days - everyday I find something new the Navigation System will do on command...
Without the Navigation you have a Good Odyssey WITH THE NAVIGATION YOU HAVE THE LATEST/COOLEST/FUTURISTIC MODEL!
My kids call the Ody the "I Robot" Van - It is awesome!
In regards to aftermarket additions - They are never as good as the installed one!
:shades:
I am also not too surprised to see the Accord sales drop so much this year or the Insight sales to plummet.
Good that Honda has the Odyssey, Pilot, and CRV to offset the drop in cars. It appears that the Pilot has stolen sales from the Acura MDX.
Also, in another forum someone mentioned their battery going dead because they left the interior lights on. Is there no setting to have the lights turn off after so long to avoid running the battery dead? My wife is notorious at leaving the interior lights on, however I haven't owned a vehicle in many years that didn't turn them off automatically if you forget.
Are you happy with the Michelin tires that come on the EX? I was looking at tire options in that size and there isn't much to pick from. The Michelins had some complaints at tirerack.com but none were for the Odyssey. Claimed they wore bad, hydroplaned after they had some miles on them, and were terrible in the snow. Not cheap tires to replace either.
I've never owned a vehicle that DID! But then again I've only owned Japaneese vehicles. No, Honda Ody does NOT turn off interior lights automatically. But they do have one switch that allows you to turn off EVERY single interior light at the same time (as opposed to clicking each one). So maybe you can train your wife to hit that switch every time she turns off ignition?
Ha! Not going to train us much of anything at this age. My last couple of higher-end japanese vehicles would turn the lights out. Surprised it hasn't trickled down yet. Surprised they don't offer rain-sensing wipers as well.
I've bought maybe a dozen Toyota/Lexus products in the last 15 years and it always amazes me how they can put together a nice package, but leave out something I want. The domestics usually offer everything I want, but a lower quality package. I do like Honda's packaging better than Toyota. At least it's basically "take it or leave it". Toyota likes to pretend to offer certain options but then you can never get them. We waited 8 months on our GX470 when the dealer finally called and said they just aren't going to build one with the options you want. So we got stuck with a silly looking spoiler and a set of 3rd row seats that live in the garage. But I walked onto the lot and bought my Tahoe exactly how I wanted it. As much as I hate buying cars, you'd think I'd quit one of these days... I doubt the wife will drive the odyssey much anyway, she's not a minivan person.
Hard to believe Honda didn't think to include this feature.
Drove pretty good. Interior materials are good quality, fit/finish was not as great as I expected. I checked a couple others on the lot and they had some similar sloppy looking interior pieces as well. When sitting in the passenger seat I could see down inside the upper glove-box. As someone mentioned earlier, it seems to have quite a bit of road noise. Similar to my Tahoe which isn't bad, but I really expected something more quiet with all-season tires and lots of media hoopla.
It looks like I'm going to have to go with a Touring just to get a couple simple features that I've grown accustomed to.
So you're saying if you have manuall turned on an interior light, get out and shut the door, after 3 minutes they'll turn off regardless of the position of the switch? That's what I would expect from most any vehicle these days, but someone said that wasn't the case.
Volvo figured out the best system many years ago where the headlights and tailights turn off when you turn off the ignition and turn on when you start the car. All the light switch does is turn on either the parking lights instead of the headlights or the instrument panel lights. I don't have to remember to turn on my lights when I turn on the windshield wipers, which is the law now in California, because the exterior lights are always on, and the headlights don't turn off when you engage the parking brake as they do with the DRL on many other cars.
Thanks to all who had input on whether the navigation system is worth it. Very much appreciated. We decided to go for it. Got a great deal from a dealer in CT, we pick it up at the end of the month.
Question about the towing hitch: I know that honda doesn't recommend installing just the hitch, without all the other important stuff. But what if we only want it to haul bikes? and can we just order it and install ourselves? Does anyone know? :confuse:
Thanks, Michelle
I negotiated the trailer package n the purchase price but it would have cost about $1400 otherwise. Crazy. Honda gives you a 4 prong plug. They would not do a 7 wire harness that would provide for trailer power, brake controler & solid ground. That cost another $265 from an outside shop.
Honda claims a max of 350# tongue weight and 3500# trailer. (ie tongue weight should alwys be about 10% of trailer).
BUT only after you buy the thing does the manual fine print note that anything more than 1850#'s requires a weight distributing hitch. That's about anothe $350-400 plus more junk to store and springs to attach etc etc.
I have a 2000# camping trailer that should not be a big deal. but HOnda sure made it complicated. the sienna seems to offer a better factory package!
I had complained previously that without the tilt-out rear quarter vents to relieve air pressure the side windows when open would create ear splitting buffeting noise.
The other day, nice 73 degrees, I opened the sunroof, my son (who is perpetually hot)was in the second row with his window down half way.
All seemed well to me in the drivers seat until I looked in the mirror and was shocked to see the 5 year old neighbor kid in the third row in agony with both ears pressed shut with his hands. I immediately recognized the problem an closed the second row window!
What surprised me is that I did not hear the buffeting myself. My (always hot) son and I always have this batle when he tries to open the side windows without balancing of the buffetint with other open windows
Parents beware, the buffeting can be painful to the ear drums!!!!
Honda, you realy screwed up on this one.
Check out messages #2689 and #2457.

IE. the light won't shut off when my kids leave them on and the doors are closed.
thanks HOnda for the oversight, jeeez they got so close! . since the basics are there in the computer it wouldn't take much to also shut the lights off after 10 minutes if the doors are all closed! Duuuuuh!
So with 4 kids, I need to shut off all interior lights ALL the time because I can't check everytime if the kids left the lights on. they like to play with the switches. This solutio is a pain but beats a dead battery.
I tried an MP3 CD today after another poster said it did - but it didn't work. The manual states that the CD player can take CD-R but not CD-RW. There is no mention of MP3's in the manual that I could find even with the Toruing/Nav/RES since it is the same manual.
That is why HandA sell an MP3 seperately. If somebody however can confirm that I am wrong please let me know.
I also notice a downshift which acts as engine braking when I slow the van down. It's take some getting used to.
I got 21.5 miles hwy driving and 17.4 miles mostly city driving.
The Touring model I got has PAX tires. There seems to be no balancing weight on the exterior of the wheels. Anyone cares to explain how wheels with PAX tires ?are balanced?
