Does anyone know if the 2007 odyssey EX include mats for the third row or
trunck. When I test drove the car I saw there were some mats in a package
inside the car which are to be used after people fold-into-the-floor third-
row seat. But after I bought it and found there are no more mats. Sales man
told me that I need to buy the mats separately.

    Did the saleman cheat me?

    Thank you!

Used Hondas are overly pricey. Buy a new '07 right now. You should be able to get an LX for 22K or less.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,551
sounds like someone stole your mats. It comes standard with mats for all 3 rows, but nothing for the trunk. Go make a stink and demand your mats. Check with the Honda corporate web site first to confirm.

After researching, test driving, looking, checking other vans out ad nauseum, I'm going to check out a Certified Used '06 EX Monday. Have done research on prices for Certified Used in my area and the vehicle is presently listed below Edmunds, KBB prices. I know that I can't know EVERYTHING until I've seen interior, exterior, had mechanic check it, etc. But am wondering if it's too good to be true...Carfax and AutoCheck come back with no problems or issues, with only 1 owner before being sold at auction in NY and sent to IL. Mileage is low (9700). Can it be that the dealer has priced it well for the market in my area? It's listed at $23988. Anything I should be wary of when checking it out? (Have only purchased used from private parties before.) Not emotionally attached to getting this, but it sure does seem like a decent used deal...Thanks in advance for any tips! :)

Does it have any options (I can't recall if you can get any options on an EX). We bought a NEW 07 EX back in about April for 25.5k OTD including 5.5% tax. I'd say the deal you're looking at is very bad for a 2 year old van unless it has lots of options.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Right now you can buy a new '07 Odyssey EX for 24 or a tad more most anywhere in the U.S.

    Forget that '06.

    Hi, JJ:

Got the same problem with 2007 Honda Odyssey EXL just 4 days after bought the van. Dealer appointment is on this saturday. What is the following-up with the issue?

    Thanks

I have experienced the same in my new '07 Odyssey (3 weeks old and 800 miles). I'm taking it in for the roof rail installation and will have them look at the turning issue. I'll post back with any possible solution they offer. Did you ever get this solved?
  • calthicalthi Member Posts: 5
After they changed the strut and did the wheel alignment, I think everything is ok now. Haven't notice any unusual noise when turning so far.
  • kaipingmakaipingma Member Posts: 7
My Odyssey 05 had the same brake noise described in this Service Bulletin (06-024). I mentioned the brake noise when my car was still quite new(early 2006). The dealer inspected the brake and said it had no problem. However, they didn't write it done in my service record. (This turned out to be a big mistakes and it bit me later.)

My ody is approaching the warranty limit now (33,750 miles ) and I thought it would be good to have the dealer recheck my brake. I searched the forum and found this TSB. Today I brought my car in with the TSB in hand. To my surprise, they declined the warranty claim because its coverage is only for one year/12000 miles. The dealer contacted District Manager to see if they can extend the coverage for me and the answer is NO!

Is there anyone on the same boat?
I already filed a complaint by calling Honda. They said they will return my call in 2 days.
  • sebring95sebring95 Member Posts: 3,241
I had this bulletin performed on my '05 in July at around 22k miles. I had complained at a previous dealer and they said they couldn't find anything. Of course they couldn't find anything if it bit them on the nose. But they did document this, which is probably the key here. Fast forward, I started using a different dealer and they took care of it without question. Typically, if you complain about a repair during warranty but they can't fix it, you have a pretty good case if it breaks after the warranty. However, without documenting the problem, it's not a very good case unless your dealer is willing to go to bat for you. Doesn't sound like that's the case here. Lesson learned, right?
  • kaipingmakaipingma Member Posts: 7
Yes, this is definitely a lesson for me. Honda called me back today and the guy said the same District Manager reviewed my case again and the decision is still a No. And he told me the right way to dispute it is to contact the Service Manager of the dealer to see when the District Manager will be on the dealer's site so I can discuss the issue with him.

I am not sure if I want to spend the time disputing this with them. I might just go try another dealer whose District Manager is a different guy. If that doesn't work either, let it be.

    Hi All,

I bought a 2005 EXL a few months back with around 31K miles.
I have a bunch of issues to check.
    1. noise and vibration caused by VCM (when it turns on) is very noticeable and when I see the rear view mirror, its like the rear objects seen in it are vibrating. Do we have to live with this ?
    2. weird noise around steering wheel when VCM is on and at bumps seems to pull toward right and I had to hold the steering wheel very tight.
    3. When I start the van and hit the gas slowly, some weird noise.
    4. Is there a way to check if the recalls were done to the van . The van wasn't serviced at the dealer for a year before. The dealer who serviced my van (I did a 30K major service immediately after buying it to make sure its in good shape) told that all the recalls were done but I want to make sure. Can we call honda and provide the VIN# so that they can check if recalls were done.

    -thanks,
    Sam

2005 was the first year of that model and they did have some hiccups. Yeah there were some fixes that Honda covered. I'd check with Honda.
  • blackexv6blackexv6 Member Posts: 503
I have a 2006 Odyssey and am not aware of any recalls. The only TSB's (not recalls) I know of are the droning defect A-pipe replacement and the defective front brake pad material.

The VCM does make noise but shouldn't be much of a nuisance. The road noise usually is more of the headache.

Item #3 may be you ABS self test. SOunds like a grinding noise when driving off from a cold start.
  • sks3sks3 Member Posts: 5
I found this link which states a few recalls for 2005 odyssey . May be they are TSB's.
    http://www.automotive.com/2005/12/honda/odyssey/recalls/index.html
The van is one of the early ones that came out . It was from end of 2004 .

Here is the update of my brake problem. I found out from honda's warranty booklet that I could file a case with BBB if I do not agree with Honda's decision. It even lists BBB webpage URL. BBB has a simple two-page form and I filled it out w/o any hesitation. After I submitted the case, Honda had the dealer call me the very next day. They scheduled an appointment for today with me to inspect my brake. And as you may have guessed, they fixed my brake problem with goodwill warranty this time. Not sure if the honda district manager happens to be in a good mood today or it's the magic of BBB. Anyhow, I am glad that I don't have to live with the awful noise any more.

Just took my 05 Odyssey for windshield noise problem (3rd repair), and mentioned about the power steering is hard...dealer inspected it and replaced the power steering pump under warrenty...mileage was about 26,000.
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
May I ask what they did for your windshield (I'm assuming you had the whistle like my aunt's does)? I'd love to know what to tell her to tell the dealer!

    Thanks,

They replaced the moldings. The van just came back from the 4th repair (again with new moldings) and still did not take care the noise problem. Dealer is running out of ideas on what to do and plan to call the Honda engineer.
  • pegathajaxpegathajax Member Posts: 2
mom24, I know you posted your noise problem over a year ago, but I am always late to the party and was wondering if you got a resolution for it. It sounds exactly like what I am experiencing with my 05 Odyssey that just hit 36,000 miles. On really cold days when I travel across town (more than 20 minutes driving) a loud whirring fan-like noise is coming from the front hood, and seems to be more on the passenger side. It seems to be louder when I slow down, and still sounds like a fan in overdrive when completely stopped. When going slow and turning it really makes a grinding/whirring noise. It only does it on really cold days (40 or below) and only after I have been driving for a long period of time. I live in FL and we don't have that many really cold days and I don't usually drive more than 10 or 15 minute trips. I am having a hard time duplicating the problem on command.

I have had it into the dealer twice now, and luckily the first time was right before my 36,000 mile warranty expired, so it is documented as occuring under warranty. They didn't charge me for the second visit because of that, but they didn't fix it either. They can't duplicate the problem.

I see there was a power steering recall in 2007, but was that just for the touring model? The noise is annoying, but I want to know if it is safe to drive. If it is something like the power steering, is it just going to go out on me at some point?

I am a previous owner of the 99 Odyssey, and thanks to all of you got a new transmission after researching my problem online. The dealer couldn't, or wouldn't diagnose it until I called Honda Corp armed with feedback from this website. I have since changed dealers (luckily we have quite a few here) but I am feeling a little deja vu and I am not happy.

Any input would be welcome. Thanks.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Yours is a well known issue across the Odyssey model line that, so far as I know, has not had safety implications for anybody yet. Keep on the dealer to fix it or take it to another store.

    Hi,

Does anyone have a list of difference or changes between the 2006 Touring and the 2007 Touring?

(Or, maybe a link to the 2006 Odyssey sales brochure so I can figure it out)

It looks like tilt/telescoping steering was one change added in 07, but I suspect there were several more...

I'm looking at a used 06 and trying to make the tradeoff versus an 07.

    Thanks!
  • blackexv6blackexv6 Member Posts: 503
The BIG change is the transmission....stay away from the '06. The '07 has the more durable 4-shaft transmission shared with the Pilot & Ridgeline trucks.

The 2ND big issue is the droning defect found in the '05 & '06's. The noise is still there in the '07 but the shift points were changed so you wont drone while highway cruising.

If you are new to this forum, check out the Odyssey Transmission problems topic. Most of the tranny failures occurred with the '99-'04 generation, however, I would still stay away from '05 & '06 if you have a choice.
  • stillerzstillerz Member Posts: 11
    Thanks that's helpful!

    My choice is between a new 2007 and a high-mileage used 2006.

Price difference is probably around $10k, so I'm trying to make the tradeoffs on what I would get for the money.

    Anything else?
  • ahiggyahiggy Member Posts: 2
Yes--it seems that you are having power steering pump noise. I had mine replaced about a year ago, and now the noise is starting up again. They should fix this at no charge for you, as it is a well known problem. If you live in Florida, you aren't going to be able to duplicate the problem, since it only occurs in colder weather. Something having to do with the fluid thickening with the cold, or so my dealer says. Hope this helps!
  • lance42lance42 Member Posts: 6
I have an intermitant vibration that occurs at any speed then the load is taken off the motor. The viberation can be overcome by speeding up. I know that the motor mounts are some kind of fluid filled. My question is to you the knowledgeable readers is: Does it sound as I have a blown motor mount?
  • brundybrundy Member Posts: 3
I am having issues with power steering at low speeds, such as parallel parking, etc. It is very hard to even turn the wheel at all some times. A Goodyear dealer told me that Honda is well aware of this issue as there have been lots of service bulletins out about it. Since my van only has 54,000 miles, but is out of warranty I am hoping that someone can tell me they have had some luck in getting Honda to eat the cost of repair. This same dealer said that it involves some sort of electronic issue in the steering and not the pump itself. I have checked the fluid level and it is fine so it has to be something else. It also makes that same grinding sound at low speed steering I have heard others complain about. I took it to a Honda dealer back 6 months ago and they said "no trouble found" which was not true. I am not going to be willing to fork over $700 to $800 on a new pump if Honda already knew about this. If need be, I'll go the small claims court route but I don't want the hassle of that if possible. Any suggestions? We live in Louisville so it is not a climate issue that is causing this either.

    Thanks,
    Brundy

My problem with the steering could only be duplicated when cold. Luckily, the last cold day of the year I finally got it to make the noise on the way to take it into the dealer. It took them less than a minute to say yep, you have a steering problem. I was both happy and frustrated as it took three trips to the dealer to get to this point and the first trip, I told them it was the steering but they couldn't duplicate it, so they wouldn't fix it. It hasn't been cold since, so I can only hope it is actually fixed. I guess I'll find out in December.

When I had my 99 transmission problem I also took it in at least three times (different dealer, in fact I switched because if this) and they claimed ignorance of a transmission problem, and unable to duplicate the problem. I finally, called the national Honda Corp Customer Service and they assigned me a problem number and sent me to a different dealer. All of a sudden, I was treated with respect and they were magically able to find the problem and covered it, even though it was out of warranty. So my recommendation would be to call Honda Corp Customer Service and see if you can get a problem number. This seemed to be magic when interacting with the dealer. I guess, it lets the dealer off the hook for any costs or responsibility.

With my 05 they replaced my rear motor mounts when I was complaining about the steering and vibration. I have seen the motor mounts crop up as a recurring problem as well, but the dealer came up with that fix on their own. I am frustrated with all the known problems that seem to take a ridiculous amount of effort on my part to get fixed. And it seems like I have had more than my share of problems with the Odyssey and I keep saying I won't do it again. But then I have to look at it and say that the company did stand behind their product (eventually) and I did get the problems taken care of all under warranty (even though I was just outside of the 36,000 miles). I'm not sure if other companies would do the same. Good luck.
  • brundybrundy Member Posts: 3
I just took it in the dealer today and they are saying that its going to cost almost $600 to replace the pwr steering pump and resovoir!! I got to believe that Honda is well aware of this issue and I am really ticked off that nobody seems to want to do anything about it! Has anyone else had any luck getting Honda to pay for some of this cost? It would seem as though they should if it's an obvious defect.
  • dave594dave594 Member Posts: 218
How long has it been out of warranty? I have found Honda willing to bend over backwards to make a customer happy. Work with your service manager and ask him or her to ask Honda Corporate if they are willing to cover all or part of it under warranty. It's worked for me in the past, especially if you ask nicely and remind them you are thinking of buying Honda in the future.

I have a quick question about oil change for 08 Odyssey.

From automobile shops such as Firestone and Jiffy Lube, I was often told
that regular oil's duration was 3 months / 3000 miles and
    Synthetic was around 5000-6000 miles.

Can someone clarify on this information? On Odyssey's maintenance schedule, it didn't seem to really clarify how often I should do the oil change.
Lot of new car's manual seems to say every 5000 miles.
Is this assuming that I do synthetic oil change every time which costs a lot more? Or is it okay to go 5000 miles with regular oil.
  • bobber1bobber1 Member Posts: 217
Honda has a computer that calculates when to change based on temperature and driving. It will tell you when to change. My interval has been about 6,000 miles.

The old 3,000 oil change standard is a waste of money in my opinion. My last car I changed every 5,000 miles and put 170,000 on and it still didn't burn any oil.
  • brundybrundy Member Posts: 3
You were exactly right!! When the dealer called me and told me how much it would cost to fix, I let him know that I was aware (as was Honda) that there have been a lot of issues with this same problem for lots of owners and that he should try and get Honda to work with me on this. Later that day, he called back with good news. Honda was picking up the tab for the whole thing!!! We just got back from driving on vacation of some 1,400 miles and I am happy to report that the steering is just fine now!!

Thanks for all of you who suggested that I contact the dealer for some help on this one. By the way, my Odyssey had 54,000 miles on it when I took it in for this problem.

Good afternoon forum! My wife's 2007 Ody has been trouble-free until now (outside of a cut runflat tire). When we start it up, there is a fast-paced clicking sound coming from inside the panel in the right rear of the van. It lasts about 30 seconds and stops, and we haven't noticed anything else different. It happens whether or not we immediately drive off. The Ody is a 2007 Touring model with all the bells and whistles if that makes a difference. Does anyone know what this might be and if there is a fix I don't have to go to the dealer for? Thanks in advance!

    :confuse:

I have an 07 LX and was thinking about the plus one seat, but have read on most sites that it will not work in an LX. Can anyone confirm this. I have see some folks saying you can put it in an LX, but it will not have a seat belt. If that is true, then I would ask why put it in if you have kids?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. We're making the drive from NJ to Orlando this fall and were bringing my family and my brother's.

    Regards,
    Jeff

Wondering what people are buying for replacement tires for their 2007 Ody EX-L's? My local tire guy is suggesting Firestone Destination LE or Bridgestone Turanza's. Also a Kumho Solus KR 21. And...he can get the Michelin Energy LX4(that is what came with mine originally). Thx.
  • sebring95sebring95 Member Posts: 3,241
I went with Cooper CS4's. The Goodyear Comfortread would have been my 2nd choice. Yokahoma Avid TRZ's also seem to get good reviews on the Ody. The LX4 is a pretty low-rent tire, as are the Firestone and Bridgestone's you've mentioned. Are you looking for something better than OEM or just cheap? The Coopers are far better than the Michelins and so are the Goodyears from what I've seen. I tossed my OEM Michelins at 20k miles because they were half worn and were so noisy they gave me a headache on concrete roads. The Coopers are much better in every way and with 20k miles on them I really can't tell that they've worn at all.
  • jwb18tjwb18t Member Posts: 45
I am looking for something better than oem. Took a look at the Bridgestones and the Firestones and was not impressed. Thanks for the Cooper , Goodyear Comfortread, and Yokohama suggestions. I run Bridgestone Blizzaks in winter and want a great tire for the rest of the year.
  • speterson1speterson1 Member Posts: 228
I have an Ody that we bought in January of 2007, and when our OEM Michelins start going on it, I'll most likely go with the Yokohamas. Several years ago I bought a set of Yoko Avid Touring tires for our Subaru Forester to replace the OEM Bridgestones, and they have been wonderful. Quiet, good wet traction, decent snow traction, they still have lots of wear left on them and they were a bargain to boot! They've made a believer out of me, so now I'm looking forward to replacing the Michelins. They drive OK but sure are loud.
  • asa203asa203 Member Posts: 10
I bought the Cooper CS4's for my 05 Honda Odyssey about a month ago. The OEM's lasted 35K and probably could have gotten 40K, but since we were heading to the the beach, I made the switch. So far I have put 2800 miles on them and they are quieter. The downside is the gas mileage has decreased by 1-1.5 MPG. At 500 out the door, I thought it was a better deal than the Michelin's Also I got the 80K warranty compared to no tread warranty for the Michelin. No regrets, but would like the better mileage.

I wondered if anyone had a picture or a description of where the Transmission Drain Plug is located on a 2005 Odyssey? do you have to take off any of the plastic shields to get to it?

We have a 2002 EXL RES and just bought a 2008 EXL RES. I was looking to buy a Priority Start device for the 2002 to protect the battery from being discharged if an interior light is left on (darn kids, yeah that's it dear, it was the kids!), after having killed a few batteries over the years (although with the Wal-Mart 3 year battery I have not had to actually pay for a new one). I was wondering if that is still an issue with the 2008 and should I get one for each Odyssey?

    Thanks for any advice.

Does anyone know how/where I can sign up to be part of the Honda/Michelin class-action suit re; PAX tires filed in U.S. District Court in Maryland that consolidates class-action suits status so it can proceed in Arizona, Illinois, New York and Florida? I understand the same class-action suit in Las Angeles is under appeal.
  • jehrhartjehrhart Member Posts: 1
I would also like info on the class action suite regarding the PAX tire system.

I am currectly looking to remove them and replace with regular wheels and tires. My local dealer didn't offer any recomendations. Honda hasn't endorsed anything and they won't either due to possible liability. No one has any balls today, Where are the mechanics of the old days who changed gear ratios, cams, etc. to race or improve upon the factory mishaps?

I have hated these tires from our first highway trip. Honda should come with an alternative that is cost effective. I don't mind buying new wheels and tires. Just give me some help. I am not a mechanic. The way I see it, Michelon sold them this special equiptment to handle these tires and now they want $ 75.00 per tire to mount more of the same crap. What a rip off. Get me in the lawsuit.

Did you find the transmission drain plug? If not, it is an inverted plug located (obviously) at the bottom of the transmission on the left side of the engine oil pan. A 3/8" ratchet will fit into this drain plug which Honda says is a 18 x1.5mm or install a short 3/8" socket extension on your ratchet. No need to remove any of the plastic shields. I've had no leaks by reusing the original sealing washer (on the drain plug). The filler plug or bolt as Honda calls it, is hard to get to so I refill the transmission through the dipstick tube. Hope this helps!

I just purchased a used 2005 LX Odyssey with 36K. Can someone tell tell me if the door lock and side-view mirror switch on the drivers door are suppose to illuminate at night? The 4 window switches illuminate on the van but for some reason the door lock and side-view mirror switch just in front of them do not. The switches function but I simply cannot tell if they are suppose to illuminate at night. If they are suppose to - does anyone know what fuse No. may control that?

    Thanks
  • ahiggyahiggy Member Posts: 2
The door lock button should light up, but not the mirror button. However, if you have the button for the side view mirror defroster, that will light up when it is pushed down to be turned on. Is your passenger side door lock button illuminated? It should be as well. Hope this helps.
