You'd be the first here. What dealer let you do that?

Must have been pre-production because they started production today, in fact the first model will come off the assembly line in about 3 hours.

Am VERY interested to hear what you think about the Seacrest Green color with the grey leather interior.

I saw that combo at the Philly car show, and really liked it. I like the dark gray interior a lot, and especially with that Seacrest Green exterior.

I prefer the beige interior, but I think I'm in the minority here.

I will admit the gray interior would wear better, show dirt a lot less.

i only like the beige interior. it makes the vehicle look much more flashier.

    Hi Juice,
Will I get them in trouble if I say ?
It was in Connecticut. Went there yesterday. The Gmgr lives a few blocks over and made a 3 pm appt. They close at 4 so with really awful weather here there was little traffic. Definitely did NOT expect to take it out but had to ask.
The sls mgr was able to take it home during the week but believe the car is gone today. This dealership had if for a week, but another only 1 day. Seems like this car is making the rounds in New England.
Having test drove a Honda Pilot a few weeks ago can say that you will be amazed (positively) at the difference. The downside of course is that it is addictive, you will not be happy until you own it.
Went there worried about the front end, interior, handling etc. Front end
was fine (wife hoped they might have improved the logo), but was nowhere near the ugly description others have used. Actually really liked it and later went out to dinner parking between a lexus and pilot. Liked the Tribeca a LOT more than the Lexus, more room, better styling. Have not driven one but did check out the pricing and it seems higher.

Thanks Bob ! Sounds like the Seacrest Green is not too dark then.

They had nice paint chips to look at. The Red was also nice but think we might prefer a lighter color.

Love the beige leather but wife is looking for a change (and dark colors hide spills by little kids)

    Steve.

Honestly was not even considering the grey until we saw the blue/grey combo yesterday and my wife was thinking a change would be nice.

i don't care about leather, what did you all think about only 2 rows with leather & not 3rd row ? it sounds odd but should be OK. clearly, subaru is cutting costs here
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Cool, so you know the sales manager and drove his demo model. Lucky duck!

Nice to hear the positive driving impression.

We might be reading that wrong, I think they said the LTD package adds leather to the first two rows on the 5 seat model. Did they mention the 3rd row at all?

Vinyl is fine with me anyway, for the 3rd row. I'd have booster seats there if I were using them and vinyl cleans easily.

But, street prices are more like $1k over invoice, at least in the Chicago area. So, that could put it just below $40k.

They do get pricey but remember they're a lot bigger inside. Different animal. I seriously doubt they'll drive the same.

I figured for the $250 refundable deposit, I would give my wife the pre-ordering $500 Eddie Bauer gift certificate. That ought to soften the blow. lol ;)

not Eddie Bauer.. you better not let Ford hear you... lol.

Yes, but with the level of equipment it includes, you could slap a Lexus badge on it. Are you comparing it to the Tribeca or a full-size SUV?
  • njswamplandsnjswamplands Member Posts: 1,760
would like to compare it to an odyssey with nav/dvd but cant do to the lack of awd in the odyssey.

dont know what i can compare it to really. what does the extra 4k or so in a sienna get ya over a trifecta?
  • volkovvolkov Member Posts: 1,306
:surprise: and :confuse: That's seriously low-rent in my opinion. I'd rather pay that little extra for all leather. Does anyone else do this in the optional 3rd row? The kids seat, aka 3 row is where most of us really want to have leather. Absorbs much less and cleans far easier. Tribeca just dropped down a few notches on my opinion-o-meter. I hate something done half-assed.

I'd prefer to compare a loaded AWD Sienna to a loaded RX330, not a stripped one with cloth and FWD. RX prices can get pretty frightening.

I think we're jumping the gun here, where did it say the 3rd row was not leather? Even if it was not it would be vinyl, not cloth.

  • mayberryguymayberryguy Member Posts: 145
Most of the other 3rd seat vehicles also have vinyl in the 3rd row. My 2003 Eddie Bauer Expedition has vinyl for 3rd row. The vinyl isn't there just because of cost but because of wear issues with the seat being folded and stored. It is hard to tell the difference at a glance that the seats are vinyl anyway.

You would be surprised to learn how much of your "leather" seats are vinyl anyway.
  • mayberryguymayberryguy Member Posts: 145
3rd row on limited B9's are vinyl.
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
Not vinyl, but "Leatherette". See, now its upscale!?!

  • mayberryguymayberryguy Member Posts: 145
Good jab with the "Leatherette". I think the advertising guys need to come up with a new upscale Subaru term for vinyl. It has definitely worked with Leatherette for BMW. I happen to have just bought a 2005 325xi with "Leatherette" and like it is well as Leather but without the upkeep and expense.

Subaru needs to do a good job of marketing the Tribeca as upscale at a discount price compared to the competition. The pricing looks good, they just need to make sure they use it to their advantage by comparing it to their more expensive competitors.

It's not as if the word "leatherette" is a trademark any more. It's in the dictionary and means imitation leather. Anyone, including Subaru, can use it to describe the material covering the seats. If it works for BMW and Porsche, it'll work OK for Subaru, too.
  • deanvitdeanvit Member Posts: 23
Subaru was probably pressured by PETA to add the vinyl.

Has anybody compared the interior with the FX35? Unfortunately the Tribeca at the autoshow was sectioned off and it was impossible to get a close look. From what I could see at the show and pictures the interior quality appears to be in the discussion. I have been shopping for the FX35 but its pricing like the RX330 gets frightening when options are included. For less than 38 grand fully optioned, and I assume it will have limited production numbers so there will not be 20 in every parking lot (RX330, Pilot), the Tribeca has moved up on my short list.

Oops, yesh, I meant "leatherette". Sorry.

I do see the FX35 as a potential competitor for the 5 seat Limited models, sure. Both tend be be on the sporty side. The catch with the Infiniti is it has very, very little cargo space with the seats in place. It's shaped more like a hatchback than wagon.

Not that I care much, cloth is fine to me. Or that Alcantara stuff. Wifey prefers leather, though, if it's heated.

I played follow the leader with an Atlantic Blue/grey leather B9 with Georgia dealer plates from Asheville to Hickory, NC last week, approx 75 miles. The route included descent of the Old Fort Mountain grade on I 40, and from behind I was impressed at how level the B9 stayed going through those tight curves, especially since the driver was moving well in excess of the posted speed limit, 55 mph at that point.
The car is really attractive out on the road. The high beltline and tall fenders/hood are suggestive of a cross between a Murano and a new 300 sedan. The rest of that route, after you come down the mountain, is long rolling hills, and the B9 clearly has enough oooomph to pass tractor trailers in an efficient manner at speeds in excess of 75 mph. I already have a source for my occasional need for a stick-to-your seat torque fix , an 04 FXT.
We are giving a lot of thought to a Tribeca. to replace our '94 Explorer with an after-market removable third seat. The thought of a 5/7 passenger with AWD/VDC that can take all of us and our junk to the beach and get up to 28 mpg is VERY enticing, plus the adjustable upright seating and DVD make long trips so much easier for everybody. I dont need NAV but I might consider it if the after-market tinkerers figure out how to by-pass the transmission interlock that allows you to watch DVD's on the NAV screen until you shift into gear....front seat passengers like movies, too!
I got my 04 FXT with VIP invoice pricing in June 04. I am likely to wait until July or August, when all the other makers are dropping prices and offering financing incentives and rebates to move their 05 inventory, to start serious shopping, although it is re-assuring to know that the B9 will be in dealers soon, just in case my Explorer dies of natural causes before August.

Must've been a fun game of cat-and-mouse. C&D also felt it cornered pretty flat. Must have nice sized sway bars and/or stiff springs.

No - now that naugas are extinct, you can no longer get naugahyde. The 60's and 70's were a deadly time for the poor, defenseless nauga.

    >>A fully loaded at 38k can be bought at 36k by end of December,

    Hi Sweet_subie,
How did you figure this ? Am trying to decide whether to spend the extra on the NAV which we would use as a toy most of the time and think it is a 2k option.

Anyone know the expected gas milage of the B9?

I saw the Tribeca at the Dayton Auto Show this past weekend and it is a sharp vechicle. They had it roped off so you could not sit in it but from what I saw very nice!!!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Still nothing official, my guess is 18-20 city and 24-26 highway if you want a range.

I realize that's better than the Outback VDC but I predict the OB's numbers will improve also.

saustin: nav also gives the front passengers a movie screen when the vehicle is in park. So you should ask yourself if you'd ever use that. If not, I'd pass on the feature because you could buy a Garmin or other aftermarket system later if you change your mind.

The DVD is, IMO, a better value. It's $200 less, you get a huge 9" screen plus 2 wireless headphone, and you get the aux input for the stereo. If you pre-order the Tribeca and choose that portable XM or get an iPod, voila, plenty of stereo options for you.

Leatherette 3rd row is very common in midsize SUV's. If I had one with a third row, it might get used a couple of times per year.

    BTW, Naugas are not extinct!

    Bob,

Have you compared the room in the B9 directy with a Volvo XC90 (second and third row width and leg room)? I'm 5'9" like you and will probaby never sit in the second or third row, but would like friends and family to be somewhat comfortable. My wife had an '03 Pilot which was pretty roomy but has traded it in for a smaller car. I really liked the versitility of the Pilot but want something with more power and better handling. I drive an '04 V8 Touareg now. Thanks, Jim

I have looked at the XC90, but have not compared them directly. I do like the XC90.

They started production on the Tribeca yesterday. A base model will cost just a hair above 30 grand and a fully loaded 7 seater will sticker for around 38k. The SIA plant will also produce a Saab variant, starting next year. :P

I live in Lafayette, btw :D

I have seen the silver with gray interior and that looked quite sharp

In the May issue of Car and Driver there is a photo of an Equinox/Torrent/Vue version for SAAB. the article says that GM has dropped plans for the SAAB variant of the Tribeca because they can't modify the Subaru to accept a diesel for the European market.

It's a shame, GM will destroy the SAAB name. (sob :cry ) no pun intended.

**It's a shame, GM will destroy the SAAB name.**

And they'd to the same to Subaru given the chance. They're in business to make money, not to make cars (although they're not doing a very good job of either right now).

    Hi,
Was wondering if there were opinions out there on whether the Slate Gray interior might be too hot in the Summer. Love the look, with the Blue it was perfect, think it would be great with Green, and a nice change from the beige leather BUT..... someone mentioned to my wife that the interior would be too hot and that has her (us) concerned.

Any ideas ? How about the existing LLB outback owners, don't they also come with a gray leather option ?

    Thanks, Steve.
