It almost has a Mercedes G-Wagon type of a profile. Like I said, with this body on frame design it would be easy to swap between suv and sut bodystyles. I really think (and hope) that this is the direction the wrangler line is going. Absolutely brilliant if it is. Especially if all of the hardcore offroad options we are used to are offered. :P
The days of a truck being strictly a workhorse vehicle are probably over. People want their creature comforts. I do believe ordering a striped version should be an option though.
that the interior pics and styling cues from the Gladiator are now in the Wrangler? Is it possible that the Gladiator was the JK's test mule and guinea pig for styling cues?
If so, there may be no Gladiator, but since they ARE so similar, DC could green-light it and we'll see one.
"The days of a truck being strictly a workhorse vehicle are probably over. " WRONG, believe it or not there are still people who work for a living. We hate the term S'U'T' and if we want creature comforts we drive the wifes vehicle. A truck is a TOOL not a "lifestyle statement", DCC should let JEEP do what Jeep does best, build an affordable, reliable, hard to break vehicle, for people who will use it for what its desinged for. The market is crammed full of grocery getters, we dont want another. Heat and a radio please.
$#!+ or get off the pot DCC or Im going to end up buying a Nissan
DC's diesels REALLY REALLY REALLY need the cleaner burning diesel that is being mandated by the October 2006 federal regulations (can't remember the exact phrasing - sorry).
With the 4 door version coming later, I wouldn't be surprised to see the 4 door offered at the same time as a Gladiator, but who knows.
I couldn't have said it better myself and frankly it's killing me having to wait. I'm currently diving a old rather tired but reliable Full size ford van and have been looking at trucks for the past couple of year but after seeing the Gladiator if figured I'd wait to see if it comes out if it does I'd be the first to buy one. But I'm getting starting to get tired of waiting for some news if DMC is going to build this or is it just a pipe dream. I have to agree with thenthplanet a Nissan (titan for me) is looking mighty fine right about now.
yeah i'm in the same boat... nissan frontier for me in the next couple of years if no gladiator... been following the gladiator for about a year now and i still like what i see...
what blows me away is that i am even considering a detroit auto but the gladiator is it... right now and for the forseeable future, the gladiator is the ONLY chance detroit has of getting me into one of their vehicles... before i saw the gladiator, i would have bet money i wouldn't even be considering american... and i would have lost that bet no doubt... i've always like the wrangler, just not enough to give up the cargo space demanded to own one...
:confuse: A very good question. I've been combing the internet looking for any spy pics of a production gladiator and haven't found a thing. There are several pics of the new wrangler and wrangler 4 door so it is not a good omen that the gladiator will make it as in 07 model year. Maybe we'll see it as an 08. Suits me ok since it appears that DC is going to hold back on the CRD in there other vehicles until we have better fuel in the US. Getting CA and NY to change there no diesel laws would go a long way, too.
If anybody comes across a spy pic of a gladiator, please post the link here for all of us.
I don't have a spy pic, but D-C had several stations in front of their future/concept vehicles at the auto show where you could get your photo taken in front of the vehicle. Since I couldn't really get a good angle w/my own camera (what with their photo crew standing in the way), you'll have to settle for me blocking your view of part of the Gladiator http://www.eshots.com/photos/10914/408/46218.jpg

10-4! 1902! Me too for 4x4 Frontier Nismo pretty good truck, going to wait till summer/fall see whats happening with Gladiator. Can't wait much beyound that! Come on DC build it!
In my opinion this truck needs to be built, there is a niche out there to be filled. I always wanted a Jeep TJ, but they just weren't suited for what i need to do with it. I am so tired of the dated truck styling out there and getting pretty much the same vehicle throughout the different manufacturers lines. hey look a truck, never wow what a truck. I think the gladiator would definatly have that wow factor, as well as the versatility that many individules want. If this truck is built (crossing fingers) I will have the first one off the lot.
It's not a gladiator but it gives a better idea of where DC is taking the wrangler line. In my opinion it bodes well for the Gladiator since they are committed to a long wheel base and they have followed thru with taking the rescue concept into production. Taking the gladiator into production should be a logical line extension. Take a look!
Regarding all things soon to be wrangler/gladiator. I've noticed a lot of continuing issues over on the Liberty Diesel forum. I hope this doen't discourage DC from bringing the CRD to the wrangler/gladiator line-up. If they are just available in gas, then so what? Puts them in the middle of the pack with nissan, toyota, and all the rest. Somebody needs to take the gloves off and start offering a complete line up with optional diesel mills! Come on DC get your sh&^*t together and get it done. Clean fuel will be here in October. $4.00 gas may be here sooner.
I made a trip to the Detroit Auto Show last month in hopes of seeing the Gladiator up close. I was very disappointed. I was even more upset to hear that it showed up in St. Louis and in LA. Darn!!! Anyhow, does anyone know if it'll show at either the Toronto or New York Auto shows. PS... New Wrangler looks great.
well i am a current frontier owner (2000)... when making my purchase, it just seemed the 2000 tacoma was more expensive for the same amount of truck... about 2k IIRC... plus it looked lower to the ground which i didn't like but that might not be true... not sure what the ground clearance difference is... plus my pops has a 91 hardbody and it is going on something like 250k miles...
i've read really good things about the new 6 cyl in the frontier, some early reports said it was more powerful feeling than toyota's 8 (although i am sure that is subjective)...
i love the fact that the gladiator is a king cab and not crew... diesel would be fine with me... unfortunately, i live in CA (one of the 5 no diesel states... bummer)... hopefully the higher diesel standards coming and the new diesel fuel itself will help make this economically feasible for DC to build...
Jacksonville Fl. the international auto show was here 17th to the 19th and the Gladiator was here! I got a real good look at it and talked with jeep rep. and they never had a hemi in it it does have the 2.8 turbo bio diesel. The bed is bigger then it looks and the rear window and bed extension seams up real nice. Can't even tell the bed extends. The jeep guy said 4dr. wrangler platform will possible be used. After seeing it in person I want it even more! DC I herd people all around me saying that if this truck was in production they would buy one in a heart beat! Please Build this truck you wont regret it!
I owned over 18 cars and trucks in the past ten years, from sport cars, luxury cars, 4x4's and everything in between. I currently own a 99 mazda b-2500 and a 04 rodeo. I would sell both them and every other vehicle I've ever owned for the Gladiator. Two words, BUILD IT!!!
I stopped buying Jeeps in the late 80's. 1)Chrysler dropped the Jeep truck line; and 2)I never had a "warm fussy" about Chrysler in those days. Prior to that I owned a 79 J10, a 86 Grand Wagoneer, and a 87 Comanche. If DC builds this truck I just might revoke my anti-Chrysler vow. They lost a LOT of customers when they dropped the truck line. Some of us work for a living and a Wrangler just won't cut it.
if DCX decided to build this truck. I'm a former owner of three Cherokees and one Grand Cherokee. I currently drive a '97 Nissan pickup which I like, but would trade in on a Gladiator in a heartbeat.
Lose the sliding cab back mechanism in the interest of keeping the price down. Move the fog lights into the bumper to better protect them, like on the new Wrangler. But I love everything else about this truck. I always wanted a Willys pickup as a kid, but never got to own one. Heck, I wouldn't even mind if the model name gets changed to "Scrambler." Doesn't matter what Jeep calls it, just as long as they keep the turbodiesel/6-speed!
And the size is just right. Every maker except Ford/Mazda upsized and upscaled their compact trucks just before the hurricanes hit the Gulf coast and fuel prices shot up. Now Ford is selling its long-in-the-tooth Rangers like hotcakes. No small coincidence that Ranger has the best EPA mileage numbers of all pickups. The compact pickup segment is ripe for some competition, and rumor has it that Honda has a little brother to the Ridgeline in the pipeline.
I need this vehicle to do my chores around my mini farm. The need for something that is small enough to maneuver in a tight space coupled with Jeep toughness is what is needed. The longevity of a diesel as a daily driver for someone that drives 70 miles a day in a commute would keep my fuel expense in check in a long lasting drive train package. The time to build this thing is now.
I got this from another site... thought you might be interested...
Greetings all,
My name is Dan and I represent the Jeep Information Center. I wanted to make everyone aware of the new product reveal occurring on April 12th @ 4pm during Moab Safari 2006.
We have selected the Moab Safari as the ideal location to show off our new offerings, talk shop and get dirty with enthusiast owners. This year Jeep will be displaying many vehicles including the All-New 2007 Jeep Wrangler and a brand new, never revealed vehicle at 4:00 PM.
To sweeten the deal, there will be daily giveaways including a raffle for 3 grand prizes for all who attend. If you cannot attend the Moab Event, you can check out the 2007 Wrangler online by Clicking Here (link deleted).
Further more, jeep has donated a 2007 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon to the Red Rock 4-Wheelers to be raffled off to help raise awareness for the Multiple Use Defense (MUD) Fund. If you would like additional information, please visit www.rr4w.com.
Thanks for listing and see you there,
(signed) Dan
I know this never revealed stuff my rule out the Gladiator, but maybe a Hemi version of the Rubicon? Any other thoughts? My thinking is Gladiator too as they never officially said it would be produced and was only a concept vehicle.
I'll tell you what, The first vehicle I ever bought was a 1972 3/4 ton Jeep J-4000 pick up. It was the best thing that ever happened to me! Ok, enough of the drama...but it really was a great truck and no other truck was built or has since been built that is tougher! Bold statement but true! The only problem with those trucks was that they were very prone to rust damage! I sold that truck 2 years ago...and regret it every day.
I first caught wind of the new Gladiator concept about a year ago. I AM VERY EXCITED about it and have written and called Diamler begging for it's production. My only fear is they'll trim it down to be another tin-can style stuck that they produced in the 80's. Please do not do that to us.
If you build a Gladiator (in diesel) that even remotly resembles the concept version I will buy the first off the assembly line!
I've been waiting for a mid-size diesel pickup. The Gladiator will be great if they make it; I haven't seen specs, but if they use the motor from the Sprinter, which has a proven record, then it could be a decent truck. Since I have to get a new truck this year, and I'm only going to buy diesel, I think I'm getting a Sprinter. The Domestic trucks are just too huge and overkill for my needs.
I don't usually post messages but I feel strongly about wanting a Jeep Truck also...and it would be great in diesel!! I too, have been waiting for the Gladiator to become a reality and I certainly would be the first in line in my area to purchase one. One rule of thumb that a lot of business' go by is that for every 1 that takes the time to call or write, there is at least 10 others out there that feel the same way. So come on DC, let's have the Jeep Diesel Truck...I'll bet there is a lot more than a ten to one ratio out here that would buy a Jeep Diesel Truck...I know that I have talked to a lot more than 10 other Jeepers that want a Jeep Truck RIGHT NOW, especially with Diesel!!!
If you look in the Wrangler forum, you will see some pics of the 4 door Wrangler. The base is perfect for the Gladiator and about the same size. From people I have heard from who work at DC, the Gladiator and 4 door Wrangler would probably share the same platform. So there may yet be hope.
Diesel would be nice, but I wouldn't expect it before the 2008 models.
Why is it when I go to Europe I see some very, very cool diesel powered vehicles. Mid-sized SUV's and pickups with diesel engines are everywhere. Why can't we get that here?
I've held off buying a new vehicle because I was hoping the Gladiator would be put into production a bit sooner then it is now being projected to be produced. I'm hearing "maybe '09 or '10" by my local dealer. This is way too long! I hope you guys know what you're doing by waiting so long.
:confuse: 1st heard about it fall 2004, it was @ Auto shows in 2005, It really had my juices flowing. I,m Hardcore Surf fisherman every chance I get, Gladiator would have been great rig for me. The Detroit Diesel if like old one runs & runs. All and all I loved it,but broke down and bought 06 Frontier SE KC 4x4 4.0 v6 limited slip rear. Should work well in sand, big step up from 94 nissan 4x4 4 banger power wise. Anyway still like Gladiator Concept, but will they ever build it?
I have emailed DM, I told them to build this truck and I think they are going to listed. And it better be DIESEL! fold down windshield canvas top and all. I want to use it. Practicality is key!
"I heard the good news is that the Jeep Gladiator was given the thumbs up last week (finally)- the bad news is production is not until 2009."
Who!? Who told you that? I was told by a nit-wit car salesman at a dealership in Joliet IL last spring that he'd have gladiators on the lot by '06. Is HE the one who told you that? He LIES. (who'd have guessed?) Do you work for DCC? If not, I'm inclined to think you got bogus info,... or you sell cars at a Jeep dealership in J-town
A Japanese manufacturer will build this type of vehicle and the US manufacturers will just hang their heads and wonder why their market share evaporates. Come on Jeep be leader!
That's exactly what's gonna happen! Just stay tuned with Toyota CJ Cruiser compact PICK UP! And yes, diesel (3.0L or 4.2) with 6-speed manual transmission! Finally dream comes through and I'm going for it :-D
Wow, that sounds like a swell vehicle there. I swore I would never buy domestic ever again then I saw the Jeep Gladiator concept. But hey, if toyota comes out with something like Toyota CJ Cruiser compact pick up, diesel, 6-speed that would be a sweet deal. Jeep is way over priced anyway...and to wait until '09 just ain't gunna fly. You already lost me.
