The GS and LS weren't meant to blanket a price point or category TOGETHER!
The GS is the stepchild to the LS, always has been, always will be.
And having the LS sit right on top of GS450h would hurt sales of the Hybrid, and hurt profits, which would be higher on a maxxed-out GS than on a base LS.
The LS might have to swing with the big boyz from now on!
And that may not be a bad ting! If you were to attack the 7 and S, NOW is the time.
We can agree to disagree. I feel the buyers of the GS450h and those of the LS460 will be very different in profile. As long as the two have large differences in interior room and persona, I do not feel a significant amount of cross-shopping will occur. It will be the job of Lexus's marketing department to assure this, as I feel the GS will continued to be portrayed as a Luxury Sports sedan, and the LS will maintain its status of Premium Luxury Sedan.
The ES is not higher in the lineup than the IS. Both are entry level in the Lexus line and carry equal weight. It's just the IS focuses on sport and the ES luxury. Not that it matters, but a loaded IS is $48,000 compared to about $40,000 for an ES (although that may change when the new ES comes out in the spring).
That is different than the GS/LS relationship. The GS is the middle car in the lineup, while the LS is the top of the line.
buying a car and putting $10k+ in options on it makes me question if you are buying the right car in the first place.
If you pay $2k for Nav (or upwards of $5k for a Nav Pkg.), you obviously have quite a load of cash to burn, and you are only killing your own resale value, to boot.
is that there is some price overlap between the flagship LS430 and the GS430.
I am quite happy driving my unloaded non-sport, non nav, non-premium stereo 2005 545. The only options I did spring for were the comfort seats and the fold-down rear seat.
The 6 speed stick is standard but unfortunately results in a $1000 gas guzzler tax.
The 6 speed SMG is a no cost option but also tags on the gas guzzler tax and in addition it cannot be ordered without also springing (no pun intended) for the sport package. This is the most expensive way to go but probably makes up for it in the "fun quotient."
The cheapest way to go is with the no additional cost 6 speed steptronic automatic since there is no gas guzzler tax added on and you are free to choose sport or non-sport as you wish.
5 days to the official LS release, and yet not a single piece of information is released, spied, stealed?? thanx for the guys in NAIAS we now are sure thats its a 4.6L engine, but no more infor on tech and spec??
This is confirmed from my sources, the all new LS460 will have something called LKA, Lane Keep Assist,
This system uses a CCD camera which is installed on top of the windshield, it recognize the white line which is drawn in road surface, assist steering wheel operation and "in order for the car to remain inside the white line left and right and near the central part, the system controls the steering and adjust it accordingly"
This goes head to head with the all new system that keeps the driver concentration on the street and eliminating distraction.
LKA is to be in the new LS, it uses the VDIM also to recognize any turn in the street and together with the radar available it can determine the best speed and steering angel to enter that curve!!!
WELL DONE LEXUS,
this is only one of my sources told me the new LS will have, wait for more
12/08/2005 Torrance, CA Lexus will stage the world premiere of its all-new LS luxury sedan at a press conference during the North American International Auto Show on Sunday, January 8, 2006.
Arriving late next year, the fourth-generation Lexus LS will set impressive new standards in design, styling, engineering, safety and performance. The Lexus press conference is scheduled for 12:25 PM in the Riverview Ballroom in COBO Center.
* I will try to attend... but am not sure my flight from boston will make it in time.
I have no news, I have been going to as many web pages each day as time allows, and still nothing.
I am really pumped on the 2007 LS and just hope and expect for it to be at least 90% of what we have been looking for the past 2-3 months.
I'm alittle dissapointed we have not heard about the interior but as with the past LS I'm sure it will be the same quality. I would also like to know more about the option packages that Lexus includes each year. But I guess I can wait another week.
I sure hope the LS does not have such a shortened trunk lid as the new GS has gone to. I feel it really makes the trunk almost useless.
Difference between Detroit and Tokyo is they announced this unveiling as the LS itself instead of a flagship car back in Tokyo. That means this is the actual car and you'll get much more details, and that should include scoop on the interior, its appointments and new technologies deployed. I'm wondering if this car will be the hybrid car or just the gas car that is unveiled this Sunday. Technically they could be looking at the hybrid as the flagship car as opposed to a different trim level and may still be toying around with it. But stylewise and interior lookwise they should still be the same. Let's hope we get better details on AWD and long and short wheelbase editions. Finally I hope they go to just Michelins and away from the Dunlops. The car is just so much better in every way on the Michelin energy tires I just put on the current car.
But those rain sensing wipers can be adjusted to different levels of sensitivity.... Personally, I just set mine into the slow mode and forget about it...It works, although I agree that it could very well be improved a lot...
Infiniti already has this on their M. They call it "Lane Departure Warning" and most people don't like it and turn it off (will Lexus let you do that?). Supposedly, the Infiniti version sounds some sort of chime if you cross over the white lane markers without using your turn signal. Since most Americans have long since decided to ignore using their turn signals for lane changes as well as turns, they hate the LDW and turn it off too. Actually, I have decided that all manufacturers should put in LDW and NOT allow anyone to turn it off. At least this might get more of our inconsiderate drivers to use their turn signals.
the all new ls will have a 4.6L engine, that delivers about 370 HP, and about 500Nm of torque.
the trany will be industrial first 8 speed auto, promising thrilling acceleration and fuel eco.
the interior will be designed as a yacht interior, there will be alot of wood panels, along with polished chrome,
the design will be all new, along with the state of art new tech optitrone like gauges, but it will use LCD technology, like the one presented in the LFX,
all the options in the GS430 will be offered and mostly standard,
new things like LKA, driver attention system, new level PCS, new developed VDIM, new xenon system, along with better airbags (about 12) and a hybrid system that is due to production as a 2008 model, the hybrid will be at least 450HP, with acceleration in the late 4.
a new much advanced rain sensing wipers (to those said) will be introduced, and finally how it looks,
well, my sources told me that it will carry around 90% like the concept, the exhaust is to be below the trunk, the grill to be changes, and the bangle's butt to be minimized more,
the suspension will be of advanced air suspension that can outrun the germans in performance, but it wont use the Bose system becoz lexus wanted more tests before they can introduce it to their flagship.
the wheels will be standard 18, and optional 19 along with a sport tuned version (to be shown later), the wheels wont be of chrome type, it will have similar wheels that GS430 has (similar material).
the car will be available in dealers in augest for the customers to see (ONLY LOYAL CUSTOMERS) and it will set on sales late oct.
My sources told me alot of things but he said he is not sure 100% becoz Japanese are very careful with such things.
some of the rumors?? (maybe yes or no):
it will have a new ML system, that boosts 18 speakers, makes the car a moving theater. no TV in nav, but it plays every CD u have (DVD audio, video, super audio and so)
it will be 7.1 DTS, they are looking for THX certificate, but they promise, this system will be the most advanced audiosystem in a car. (lol, B&O)
nightvision is be available but how it works we dont know. well this is not yet confirmed but they mentioned something about the nightvision in that it can detect if they is anything that moves in the screen and so warnes you so u dont have to look at the screen all the way, but this is not confimred guys, only he said thats what they were saying, maybe they are testing it!?
All i can say, is within the next 2 days, Germans including MB, BM, and Audi will cry out loud, becoz their cars compared to the new LS will be a complete TRASH!!
concerning the price, the base will have at least 3K increase and there wont be alot of optional gizmo.
The original word was that the 460 would go up about 3000.00 from the 2005's. It seems that most of you are willing to pay much more and so you are signaling to Lexus what they can get away with. Why don't we just all tell them what the maximum is that we think anybody will pay for the car so that they can jack the price up. I agree with DrFill that they will get high soon enough without our help. I hope you all never play poker for your sake.
They will have it in the dealers in a closed room just for those who are regularly buying lexus, so they can take alook at it and order it if they want, i know that becoz iam invited to see it, the guy told me to come in late auguest, but he told me if you want one u have to wait until the sales starts in late oct. thats what he said, and he is sales manager in the dealer
An optional remote starter thats selling in Japan right now! If it sells here in the U.S., it will cost over $800.00 Looks very nice!
"It can do the starting * stop of the engine from the place where it is far being remote control operation. The design which considered the smart key of standard equipment, and the fact that it has with set has the standardized impression. Also the indoor antenna seriously considered one bodily sensation of the instrument panel."
Thanks for the info! Interestingly, we had a poster here last summer (Kelvin/Kevin??) from Japan who revealed some of this (e.g. eight speed auto, etc), then he quit posting. Some of us wondered if he was making it up, or was just "baiting" the board; however, looks like he may have had some sources.
Holy smokes !!!!! 8-speed tranny ??????? How would that be geared, performance-tuned or luxury-tuned ??? Will be very interesting indeed. And those laundry list of features are sweet music to my ears.... Especially if its only 3K above current LS base price. Holy smokes... They won't be able to keep that car on the lot... Lots of pre-sold ones for a long while. Imagine an 8-speed geared LS460, with 370bhp/370Ibft of torque, with electronic gizmos through the wazoo, that you can buy for $65K ? That price point should really be popular, imo.... This will be outstanding. A 275hp/330Ibft 2006 LX470 already retails for $70K, and a 370hp LS460 selling under that price ?? Yikes !!!
About the output of the engine, I see the specs thrown around as being 370hp. Now Lexus is supposed to debut an IS coupe cabriolet concept with a 5.0 v8 @ 450 hp... using this as a reference (about 90hp/L), shouldnt a 4.6L engine put out just over 400hp? Possible? what are the odds?
Could you see Lexus dropping 30HP to get another 1-1.5 MPG? I could.
Imagine 370HP and 19/25MPG? I'm guessing it weighs 4000-4100lbs.
I wouldn't sell an 8-speed, 370HP anything for under $60k, but that's just me. God bless ME if they do! i HATE Slushies, but I'd buy that for a dollar!
That Remote looks cool!
Why pay $86k for a 382HP S550? That's been retrained to act like an LS? :confuse:
I would buy an LS rather than a 750i all the way, but that not happen till I'm 30! lol Well anyone who's going to get one "Your so Cool" and I'm jealous!
R u talkin about the BMW 5series?? hmm man u need to check ur eyes! go wear glasses, this headlights are more towards the 1998 LS than BMW, 5 series headlights are ugly pulled aside headlight, that looks like eye brow :P
and whos beating whom!
LS clearly took the crown of the best in segment, and the most wanted with the best sells in segment, but you really need to check ur eyes concerning that headlight thing.
THIS IS THE 5 series headlight:
COMEON!! where is the similarity here??
ARE YOU JOKING!! or you are sad becoz this car gonna beat ur germans and let them cry out louder than they are already lol :P
HERE IS THE SIMILARITY:
1998 LEXUS LS400 HEADLIGHTS:
LOOK AT THE TURNING SIGNAL! it basically the same, iam i right??
I don't see any 5-series in that car at all, most certainly not the headlights. In one pix I've seen (the ugly light blue color at the time of the Tokyo show) you could argue the taillights look like a 5-series but upon closer inspection the taillights are mainly ES based and I wonder if the 5-series was a copy of those. On top of that the LS is a seamless beautifully styled car, the 5-series is a jigsaw puzzle with (IMO) some beautiful styling on an isolated basis that fails miserably on a consolidated basis.
