mainecowgirl- Congrats on the order placement. Sounds like a great rig, and that your're being treated right by the guys in Belfast. Windchill in Brunswick on Monday was -35.
quikdraw- All Super Duty trucks are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in (I think) Lexington.
Step to the rear of the line and bring a sleeping bag, you have just signed up FoMoCo hurry up & order express....just to let you know the first 3 months will go real quick, by then the 2001's will be out..then the factory guys will go on spring shutdown for two weeks, then come back and put out the last of the 2000's. By this time you will be edgy, not talking to your spouse, calling your dealer daily, making midnight runs to your dealer to make sure he's telling you the truth that your truck isn't in yet. You did get the cold weather package didn't you?

My salesman gave me a copy of the color page from his magic ordering book. It lists "2000 Super Duty F-250 (over 8,500# GVWR)--Color & Trim." Then it lists all the interior and exterior colors available for XL, XLT and Lariat. There are monotone colors available for XL and XLT and two-tones for XLT then there is a separate list for Lariat. All of those listed except for one, Red Clearcoat, are two-tone combinations. The page doesn't say anything about Super Cab or V-10. It gives me the impression it's for all 250's. My dealer and I talked quite a bit about the color options as I had to switch from my original XLT choice. I am wondering if you are able to get a solid Toreador Red because you are getting a PSD or the crew cab or if your truck is going to arrive with either Harvest Gold or Black as the bottom accent color and really make your wife mad because she'll think you did it! Let me know what you know because I may switch to a solid color. I am leery about the black as my bottom color. Thanks
Sounds like a nice rig. My wife and daughter are eyeing horses and my boys want a new camper. What the heck, waiting around with all these ol' boys. What fun you'll have.
It's mighty cold here north of Atlanta tonight. Gonna be 22 with a wind chill of about 5. Gotta bring in all the sissy dogs. At least none of them weigh 1300#.
Good idea about IDing these dealers. Mine's Jacky Jones Ford in Cleveland, GA. Good folks and they move a lot of trucks. Can't wait.
rnewman: thanks for th update on the lights. I'm going to Autozone as soon as I get caught up at work and can goof around a little. Gotta get the toys ready.
quickdraw: If that baby keeps you up, at least you can sleep in the truck. That back seat is huge! I've had sofas smaller than that. I love it. I might even ride back there if "she who must be obeyed" wants to drive.
New Red: 250 CC,V10,4x4,Power TT,3.73LS, auto,265s,clearcoat red, XLT,camperpkg.,trailer pkg., off road pkg.,privacy glass/sliding rear, SB. ordered 10/19/99, Jacky Jones Ford, Cleveland, GA. build week sch. 2/7/00. I'm impatient, but no real hurry as long as ol'Red is running good. 115,000 on 5.0, no oil use.
Maincowgirl, congrats on the order.. Did ya feel like havin a smoke afterwards?? Hopefully you get the 2-tone stuff figured out.. I would think that you could get the lariat without 2-tone if you wanted.. You can change your order as long as your VOPC status (you'll use later on) isn't 'locked in'..
csurp: On ride height.. The SuperDuty is a tall truck in any configuration..
The 4x2 F250 SuperDuty is about the same height as the average F150 4x4.
The 4x4 F250 SuperDuty adds another 2in..
The F350 4x4 SuperDuty is slightly taller yet, (bring your O2 mask).. This is likely because the truck doesn't sag as much on the springs..
There are slight differences in height (less than 1") depending on whether you get Regular cab, Super Cab, CrewCab.. Again due to the weight of the truck..
A while back someone was asking about vanity plates on Super Duties. This weekend I saw a Maricopa County Sheriff 4x4 Crew Cab SWB Super Duty. It was white with a gold Maricopa County Sheriffs star on the door. It had Black fender flares, about a 6 inch lift kit, and 35 inch tall tires on it. The vanity plate said RATPTRL. I don't know if it was refering to Shevy's big block motor known as a rat, or if it was refering to the scum bags they arrest. Anyway, it looked cool. I'm glad to see my tax dollars going towards a nice Super Duty that can haul a bunch of peace officers to remote locations, instead of buying a Shevy that stalls out in the middle of an intersection...LIKE A ROCK! 99 F250 SD, CC, SWB, 4X4, V-10, Auto, 4.30LS Five Star Ford in Scottsdale AZ... I would die and go to hell before I would buy from them again. Yesterday was 80 degrees with the wind chill factor. I guess I better dust off my swimming trunks!
Don't know any reason why you cannot get a solid color? I have seen plenty of SuperDuties around with a solid color. When I ordered mine, I just told my dealer that I wanted one color, no accents.
Looking at my DORA, I see that it specifies only Toreador Red, and does not specify any accent color. I also went to www.fordvehicles.com and configured my truck there. At the spot where it asked for the accent color, I just left it blank, and it configured it just fine.
Hopefully, I won't be suprised when the truck shows up, cause my wife really wants a solid color. I would go back to your dealer and ask specifically about this. I'll drop mine an email as well and verify that I am getting what I think I am getting.
Hey, all you "haves", any of you got a Lariat without accents?
I'm the proud owner of a '00 SD Lariat Toreador Red, without accent. No problem in ordering. Other than the fact that I changed the order to Woodland Green while it was clean & unscheduled! The moral of the story is: Make sure you see a DORA, and not a Vehicle Order Confirmation screen print from the dealer. I have a nice copy of the order confirmation, in Woodland Green, complete with the bottom line which said "Press F4 to submit." I guess Gwinnett Place Ford (Atlanta) forgot to hit the F4 key! Now that I have it, I'm glad the manager messed the order up. The dark red is NICE! (SD SC V10 auto LB)
My favorite bumper sticker, of late, has nothing to do with SuperDuty trucks, but I guess we could adapt it:
"Honk if you've seen an automatic weapon fired from a moving pickup truck!" My police friends love it!
The "your vehicle has been released from the foreign assembly plant" message on the VOPC is a quirk. I heard the same thing while checking the status of my Excursion, but it arrived with a nice Kentucky Truck Plant sticker in the windshield.
Anyway, if your VIN begins with 1F, your truck was built in Kentucky. If it begins with 3F, it was built in Mexico. Ford recently began assembling Super Duties in Mexico to help reduce the the size of the order queue.
Go back and check out the Kelly Blue Book site (www.kbb.com) and look at all the colors available for your Lariat.
I counted 17 different color options. 9 solid colors, 8 two-tone colors combos. It's only with the Lariat that they have special two-tone combos. The bottom color is either black or gold depending on the base color.
If you wanted the DT Red, then the color code is JM. For two-tone the choice is DT red/BlK, order code JM/UD. And you have to pay extra for the two-tone option, code 954 at $47. DI. So forget the brochure the salesdude gave you and just tell him the color you want.
I personally have the Oxford White solid color with my '00 250 CC,SB,V10, Lariat. It matches my boat easily. Swanson Ford, Los Gatos, CA.
I just looked at this color option page the dealer gave me once again. Under the XLT section they list the monotones and two-tones separately. Under the Lariats they list all the colors lumped together with the possible two-tone options. There are two codes listed so I now see that you can indeed order just the main truck color with no accent.
The thing I like best about this site is that you can make dumb mistakes and nobody calls you on it. I'm ok now!
By the way, has anyone seen a Lariat with the Dk. Toreador Red and lower black accent? Is it nice? Woodland Green is definitely my second choice.
One thing you may not like about black on the the bottom is it gives the appearance that from a disstance the bottom half of the truck is missing, this is what stopped me from taking that accent with Harvest gold. Thats just my impression, I am sure lots of people like the black on the bottom. John
Typically the DORA is available with a day or two after the order is entered into Ford's ordering system. However, some dealers seem to have no idea what a DORA is (oh, Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgement).
You can ask your dealer to alter your order and ask for the 'Priced DORA' option (I don't remember the exact option number, saw it in one of the Ordering Information threaded on www.ford-diesel.com ). The DORA is returned via Ford's messaging system to the dealer within a few days.
I've asked my dealer to do this (since they appear to not use DORAs) and haven't heard if they've received it yet (asked Tuesday afternoon 1/18). According to one of the responses in ford-diesel, it can take a few days (but if the truck was really ordered on the 11th, the DORA should be available if the dealer uses them).
Have you been able confirm your order via VOPC (ie, calling VOPC at least tells you clean and unscheduled, unserialized)? If VOPC can't find your order, then I'd be more concerned.
Does anyone know what the 0-60 time is for a SD 250, V-10, 4.30 Auto is? I've been into cars all my life but never paid much attention to trucks. You guys/gals are into this! I'm looking forward to giving my wife my 99 Lexus 300 GS. She thinks that I'm nuts.
VOPC message states "your vehicle has arrived at the ramp" my four month wait is almost at an end? I also received the massage that "your truck has been released from the foreign plant" though I was hearing things. Called back and heard the same message. Quickdraw, I don't know about you but I will be checking the door plate to see where my truck was built. Mewman, thanks for the information on the backup lights, I knew there had to be something on the market that would help me see behind the truck through tinted windows and a topper. The backup lights will be the first thing I buy. Maincowgirl, the next stage I went through after ordering was second guessing each option I had ordered, from the engine to the color. The color gave me the most trouble, did change the engine from 5.4 to 6.8 but left the color woodland green, still worried about the color. Relax and enjoy the experience of ordering a SUPER DUTY. Hopefully you won't have to enjoy it as long as I have. Have Fun and keep posting. Lewac, sorry about your delivery problem. Sounds like another dealer may have signed for your truck. Hope they find it soon!! If not, I feel they should build you another one priority 1 for free. Bought my truck from World Ford in Pembroke Pines (Fort Lauderdale) FL.. Salesman was nice but didn't know anything about trucks, but he learns more each time I call. Maybe thats why he has made me wait 17 weeks. Temperature was in the high 50s, hope the heater works well. F250, XLT,V10,SC,4X4,SB,3.73ls, Woodland Green. GOOD LUCK TO ALL.
Just in case anyone ever wants to drive by the birthplace of their baby, the KY truck plant is just east of Louisville on I-265 (that's the outer loop).
I have looked in the brochure and I just can't seem to find the almond color. Sorry folks but I just could not resist, its the Harvest Gold thing I guess, Sorry again just trying for a few smiles.
Mainecowgirl: congrats on the order, now the sweating about the "what ifs?" and "should I have ordered?" get to start. Hummmm matching colors for Truck, Trailer, Barn, that scares me -5 Man you folks really do have winter, I don't think the lakes and ponds will ever freeze around here or there will ever be good snow for skiing. P.S. I think you are very right about snow plowing women, Had friend who drove plow on Loveland Pass for CDOT, you just described her to a T.
Lilemo: Are you calling my little pony Fat?? She is just big boned
Thanks to those who helped with the swapping of manual 99 TT mirrors for extendable manual 00 TT mirrors, they do bolt right up, BUT, and there always is one, the local dealer wants $400/pr, a little steep for no wires or servos.
I asked when I ordered the truck if I was to recieve anything other than the VOC refering to the DORA. Their answer was "NO". Now I'll ask again. Refering to calling the VOPC where can I find the #.
'During Your Order' talks all about VOPC, how to call, numbers you need, and, most importantly, guideliness for use (of which the primary one is never, never, never talk to a real person, if you get one... hang up and place your call again
IMO, Edmunds Town Hall is good but ford-diesel.com is great It is a user-supported web site (now is a good time to contribute before the end of February, got a contest with some pretty decent prizes - contribute $$ and get entered in the drawing ) ford-diesel is primarily for the Ford diesel engine line (trucks (old and new), vans, Excursions but they've added a forum for the gassers...
The recording appears to say foreign assembly plant but it may also consider Kentucky 'foreign'
Check your VIN (don't need a door post or anything). VIN is available before the truck is built. As I recall, VIN starting with '1' is KTP while VIN starting with '3' is Mexico.
I've got the lower black on my Lariat. Then again, I've got the upper black also. You can definitely order a single color Lariat. The two tone options are limited and I'm not sure why. I would have considered a silver lower with the black truck, but it was only available with XLT. The lower option for the two tone Lariat in 99 was the prairie tan, which didn't really appeal to me, so I went with all black. I've seen several white trucks with prairie tan lowers and I think they look really sharp. I've got a couple of digital photos of my truck if you want to see what the black looks like. The truck isn't waxed or anything, but they were taken without the typical Alaskan camoflauge the truck normally sports (ie - dirt).
mainecowgirl, one thing I learned a long time ago was not to comment on women's weight or appearance. I have absolutely no comment as to what the female city plow driver looked like.
Got my factory invoice faxed to me this morning, called the VOPC about an hour ago and heard those magic words "as of Jan 19th released from assembly plant". Ordered Nov 23rd from Morries Ford, Buffalo MN. If they don't pull a Lewac on me and delivery holds to week of 7 Feb, it will be 11 weeks. Salesman said he will have it delivered "hotbox" from yard which is a priority for sold vehicles after I educated him about transporter space for duallies as discussed earlier in this forum. F350 XLT CC 4X4 SWB DRW V-10 AT Camper/Tow ESOF Steps Priv/Slider glass Oxford white/graphite. The latest invoice reflects the $170 base price increase, guess I'll have to see who pays it once I really see the truck. It's really nothing big at this point, just be darned glad to have it.
Haven't seen any posts on anyone receiving the letter and gift from Ford for being a loyal, patient, SD customer. I received mine today, and yes the the gift is a "Built Ford Tough" duffle bag. Not bad, but not a loyalty check, (what we REALLY need). The letter from prez James O' Connor says "Thanks for your order, we didn't plan for the demand, doing best we can, any questions - call your dealer". First time I've seen a company do something like this, so it is a nice gesture. Thanks to everyone for answering the question on my "foreign truck".
Speaking of which, I sat bolt upright in bed last night and said, "Leather interior? For a dirty-horseblanket-carrying, dog-toting work truck? What was I thinking?!"
Wgilmartin you are right. I am second guessing everything, but that's probably why I went with the Lariat in the first place. If you have everything, you can't wish you had something! I think your choice of Woodland Green is a good one. That's a beautiful color and in Florida you shouldn't have the winter problem of salt!
Brutus- Would love to see your truck. I'll bet in these parts there are maybe a half dozen F250's in a 40 mile radius. Or at least it seems that way. I never get a chance to drool. Chevy's seem to be the truck of choice. They are a dime a dozen. I can't wait to get my truck and be taller than all of 'em!
jraske- I am still really undecided on the lower black accent. My dealer said he saw one of the Harvest Gold/Black 250's and was surprised how much he liked it. I can see your point though about it looking like its lower half is missing. I'm thinking that the darker maroon on top might not give quite the same optical effect...I hope!
cowpokes- My barn is not painted those colors! I'm not that over the top. When you event you usually wear your "colors" when you are doing cross-country jumping...all the other disciplines have you dressed in black and white. Anyway, I just like the look of a (somewhat) matching rig (truck AND trailer) hauling down the road. Vanity, I know. I know.
Yup the UPS driver stopped by today, my son asked me what I had ordered, I told him nothing that I knew....dandy letter from ford with a "built tough duffle bag" along with it...heck when my father-in-law had problems with his Explorer, Ford sent two real nice folding lawn chairs.....I think we got the short end of the deal, but they did promise me 7.3% financing for 5 years from Ford Motor Company. Also the dealer showed me that my truck has moved up to a Priority 2..hoping for a schedule build date Saturday or Monday.....crossing my fingers.....I told Ford I could get financing thru CarFinance.com for 7.3, and due to the delay, I would have to reapply and would be getting a higher rate, so they said they would match the 7.3, so if you all have higher rates, talk ford down as you wait.......Have a good weekend all....we had a high of 4 above 0 today.
Your girl fat? Heavens to Betsy, no! She sounds like a sweet young (and full figured) thing. Why would a man whose taste runs to 6000# trucks have an interest in a skinny little filly? Doesn't make any sense at all. No insult intended. My most profound apologies.
I'm sure she figured out that your SD was just the newest member of the family. Where I live, I can only have a bunch (3) of dirty, slobbering old dogs right now. Together, they weigh about 250#.
I got the solid clearcoat red, but the light color lower accent really breaks up the somewhat "slab side" look of some colors and looks sweet. The Green/gold looks much better than the solid green. I like the red/grey or silver whatever it's called as well. The two tone option was $225 on the XLT and I didn't feel like cleaning it.
i'm new to the list and would like to add my 2 cents worth. i've been reading the list for over a year now and knew of the ordering problems with the sd. well on sept 9 of 99 i placed a order at my local ford dealership where i due all my business "framingham ford" sat down with the sales manager and ordered a 00 f250 sd sc sb v-10 lariat 3.73ls auto trans 4x4 265/75x16 owl tires am/fm/cd captain's chairs island blue cc met and privacy glass. a week went by and i got my dora from them. so i sat and waited till the middle of november when i walked in and asked for my vin number they didnt have one. by the end of that week i got my vin so i checked the v.o.p.c and what it came down to was it was going to be in the week of dec 16. it came in on dec 20 i had lojack put in and i picked it up on dec 24 "what a great xmas gift". i now only have 600 miles on it but i love it it was worth the wait! i had a lund visor put on and tinted windows and it looks sharp, i have a lot of people who have come up to me and say what a nice truck it is. the island blue is a new color for 2000 look's kind of teal i think it's going to be the hot new color for ford just like what the green was in the early 90's. the wheels are also new on the 2000 lariat's really sharp looking if you get that package order the 265 big tires it makes it look so much better. as for mpg i'm getting 10 city and 11-12 highway. my only complaint is ford should have added heated seats to the lariat package these cold new england days are a killer on the butt, plus it's needs a good wash. has anyone noticed that ford changed there starter's? mine seems to be the new small gear reduction, about half the size of the old starter's, and it cranks right up, no crank time like those dodge's wondering if it going to start. i have also not had to use the 4 wheel drive yet "bummer" and i took off the 4x4 stickers on the rear fenders all it took was my finger nail to peel it off and i made sure not to scratch it. well thats all from me i have to get back to work i'm on town time, so anyone that ordered a super duty just hang in there.
mainecowgirl-my local dealer has a CC SB in tor. red with the black --looks sharp in that it breaks up the red with a gold stipe above the black--makes the truck look smaller ( which is fine with me!) but I do think that the black will show up the dust more. as to the leather-in an earlier discussion, several reported that the leather/fake leather was easier to clean/keep clean than the cloth. Do note that the back seat is fake leather or at least part fake...
adubahbi--I have been told that there is storage behind the rear seat in the CC. ie like in the 150's(old). still waiting but then I didn't order until Dec.... 2K SD 250 CC LB 4x4 island blue w/ gold tow etc....
KEH4x4 ... figures MCSO would have a truck like that! Knowing those guys, its probably named after the old TV show. Can't you see Joe Arpio hanging on to the bed of SB as they scream over some desert sand dune with guns ablazing! Heck, have'nt you seen his howitzer? No kidding you guys, our sherrif here in Maricopa County, AZ has REAL GUNs! Mover over BATF.
Wgilmartin - Hey, when you get that beast, let us know the 0-60 on it. Also curious to know how you like it for around town driving.
Mainecowgirl - If I had..if I hadn't. So far, I've changed from running boards to none, 2-tone to none, slider and privacy glass to none (will tint after market), droped cab clearance lights, added power seats, changed the color three times, and now I'm second guessing the rear end (3.73 v. 4.30). Hey, you can always change back! Started with Silver, then Desert Gold, then Torredor Red. Saw the Torredor Red with dark tinted windows. Really looked good with the black up top so I went with it. Personnally, I like the two tone black. Wanted it with the Desert Gold but not available in XLT. Dealer suggested just having the body shop add it after the truck comes in. He was going to price it for me, but I changed my mind too fast. I think it makes the truck look even higher than it is! Now that's intimidating. Hang in there, I'm waiting with ya! Ordered 1-3, Mel Clayton Ford, Phx, AZ. Really nice! Very helpful, good price, no deposit. Dora in 2 days. Highly recommend Larry Hindon.
lewac...had some big news....I think he is too depressed to talk about it.... mainecowgirl....leather will take 10 times the beating that the cloth interior will. I posted a couple of forums back that I have 2 LARGE Great Danes....and we have leather furniture in the house. I was skeptical on spending the money on it but the people we got one of the pups from assured me I would be happy. I am....!!! Plus the leather does not soak in any odor and if you spill something on it it does not soak in either. Happened to leave my windows down on my 97 F150 about a month before trade in....big rain storm...completely soaked my seats....WHAT A STINK!!!!......well my 2 cents worth anyway....
lewac I Hope I was wrong about the crash test. John
adubahbi, there is about the same amount of room behind the CC rear as the front seat of a standerd cab, there is a small tray behind the the seat for storage, and enough room to add a cab mount storage tray to use for additional storage.
Maincowgirl: My 99 250 xlt cc sb is dark toureador(sp)red with the silver lower. I like it a great deal, but I did buy it off the lot at Tri-Motor Ford in Oak Harbor, Ohio. Originally would have bought a lariat, but this one was really close to what I wanted, and I got a good deal. Great dealer, and salesman is my neighbor. I have seen both the solid DT red and the DT red with the black bottom. Tons of SDs around here. My opinion is the DT red solid looked better. However, I haven't seen a bad looking SD around yet!
sangerplr: Maybe it was your truck I saw on El Camino Real near Los Altos when I was in that neighborhood week of Dec 13th. I didn't see too many SDs in that area, and I was stuck with a rental.
Cargo area behind seat: There is a pretty good sized space behind the CC rear seat to hold quite a bit of stuff. It is larger than the space I had behind the rear seat of my 91 f150 reg cab by quite a bit.
Haven't had any time to look at ALL our local parts stores. BUT ---- with brand and part number in hand, I should be able to make some progress. THANKS AGAIN!!
Read in a magazine that a SD V10 2WD AUTO 4.x axle can do it in 8 seconds while the the same CC takes 10 seconds to get to 60. Not bad, but don't think about racing any Hondas or Tundras for that matter. It's still a truck. --> heavy
I saw an SD regular cab short bed V10 once. I wonder how fast that monster can do. It must only weighs 3500 lbs?
Don't wait to long to make any changes to your beast, depending on how your order is set up you may not have much time. When I ordered mine I was told I would have about two weeks to make changes, I tryed to change from a XLT to a Lariat after only one week and was told I was too late. Not a big deal I got all the other options. When I ordered my beast I got the dora two days later and knew what my build and delivery dates were the first week, once my build date was set they would not let me make any changes. In a way I am glad I didn't get the Lariat. John
I had reserched the CC XLT & Lariat during 99 & then for the 00. There was a few changes....power TT mirrors, 00 Lariat comes standard with anti-locks all around - 99 they were optional, cab steps are standard on Lariat where on XLT, they are optional. In the long run, it was almost cheaper to get the Lariat if you were going to get the XLT and add features. But then I got my cc because my kid was getting too long for my extended cab & it was getting increasingly harder putting hunting partners back there too. I only pull my 16 ft musky boat, not stock trailers like many others. Plus I wanted a little comfort.
so my layout is 00 cc 4x4 Lariat SD HD suspension, 4x4 off road, cold climate, roof lights, dark wind/slider, towing/hitch,capt chairs,cd,power TT,(so many trucks with new snowmobile trailers and they can't see behind them.)4.10LS,265 OWL AT,and the 5.4 V8 with A.R.E. Z-series Cap & Full wrap around Brush Guard...all at a $149 under invoice price.
First of all, thanks to everyone for all the useful information in this forum. As a SD CC owner-wannabe, it is all very helpful, and it's amazing how many of the same questions asked here are ones I've been pondering.
Mainecowgirl, others: Info I've read states vinyl rear seat on the Lariat? Is this correct?
I've seen numerous horror stories about how long it takes to get a SD after it's ordered -- does this seem to be any better or worse for orders made in recent weeks? I haven't really talked to any dealers yet (still in the "planning" stages - I'm sure many of you married guys know what I mean!) -- and most of the SD's I see on the lots around here (southern MN) seem to be PSD's, but I'm leaning toward the V-10.
Current dream config: 250 CC 4x4, SWB, XLT or Lariat(?), V-10, auto, 3.73, TTow/Hitch/Camper pkg, captains chairs, Harvest Gold. Probably later this year before we get around to doing anything. Anyone know about cutover from '00 to '01 models? I though I read something that Dodge was building or ready to begin building '01s??
The best quality tool box I've seen is the Dee-Zee Platinum series. Everything about it is heavy duty. Best locks, heaviest lid, most cargo space, highest price tag. $700+!!!! I went with the R-117 weatherguard for three reasons. 1. Higher profile lid.(Looks great on a huge truck like a SD) 2. All diamondtread.(DEE-ZEE is part tread part smooth) 3. Mainly because my best friend bought a 99 Ram 2500, and got the DEE-ZEE first. Our trucks are the same color, I just didn't want to have the same boxes too. Now don't confuse the DEE-ZEE Platinum with the Gold or Silver series. They don't even come close in style or quality. Good luck. It took me 4 months of looking at boxes to make up my mind.
Ditto on the XLT vs Lariat -- I thing I figured for around $400 or so additional for the Lariat pkg, you get the leather seats, trip computer, premium wheels (anything else?) as compared to adding all the stuff included on the Lariat to an XLT? That sound about right?
I've used several different tool boxes over the years on Forest Service trucks and the best one I've ever had is a Weatherguard (Knaak manufacturing). Shotgun, I'm suprised that Dee-Zee can use that name for a model of their tool box. Haven't used Dee-Zee, sounds like a great box--the Weatherguard is kinda pricy too. I've found that "you get what you pay for" certainly holds true. Some of the lower priced, more commonly seen boxes (I'll name names if you want) just won't hold up. If you will just drop some tools, a tow chain, and a set of jumper cables in the box and open the lid about 4 times a year, I guess anything will do. I read a post about deleting the factory cab steps from an order. I debated about the factory steps to the point that I tried to delete, but was too late. I happy with them now. I worried about the looks, but find that they are pretty unobtrusive. They are certainly hard to beat for positive footing, and are easy to hit in the dark. FWIW, I'm happy with 'em.
Don't know if the engine "broke in" or the fact that the temps increased 40+ degrees to 20 above this past week, but once the `00 F250 SD CC XLT V8 4X4 SB 4.1 LS hit 1100 miles I noticed a dramatic increase in power and response. About 11 mpg at last fill-up, all city with manual hubs locked in.
Storage behind crew cab back seat is "enough". I've got a handy man jack, winter survival gear (sleeping bag, beaver skin gloves and hat, insulated coveralls, stove), spotlight (for those dark night flat tires), and small food stash back there with plenty of room to spare.
Dealer: Nye Frontier Ford Wasilla Alaska, Michael Lagg/Randy Frank in Commercial Dept. A little over two months from order (10/7) to delivery (12/15). Second truck from them, highly recommend.
DT Red looks great and doen't show dirt nearly as bad as old black F150. Saw 17 SD's on way home from work last night (5 mile trip) with plenty of solid color Lariats. A buddy at work has a new 00 F350 SD 4X4 DRW in Island Blue - awesome color that actually "changes" color in different light conditions.
For those of you waiting, keep hanging in there as it is well worth it.
I'm aware that this is a very lengthy post but it's worth a read because this scenario COULD happen to YOUR truck! here goes the "where is our truck?" saga. the story BEGINS (the vast majority of truck delays are PRIOR to this time) from the build date of 11.27.99. the truck is SUPPOSED to ship from the KTP to the Tampa, FL railhead. we get a vopc message stating: "as of 11.28 your vehicle has been shipped via Conrail Carrier with eta week of 12.6.99." Two weeks later we still have the same message & we of course, have no truck in Tampa. On 12.16.99 the message changes to the following: "As of 12.14 your truck has been shipped (no reference to "Conrail") with eta week of 12.28." A couple of days later the the message changes slightly but the eta remains the same. As of TODAY the vopc message STILL says the same thing.
The dealership requests an investigation into the truck's wheareabouts on Monday past. Ford doesn't "get around" to it until Wednesday. okay. the nearest we all can tell is that the idiot at the end of the KTP line that assigns where the truck goes gets a couple of the numbers in the dealer code transposed. so instead of the truck coming to Tampa it instead goes to some dealer in MICHIGAN! That's why the "Conrail" message (Conrail is a branch of the CSX railroad that ONLY serves the Northern sector of the country. They do NOT serve the Southeast (CSX does that). Had I known this at the time a "bell" would have gone off in my head & I would have notified the dealer right there. But I did not know this until later (when I researched them on the Web). The dealer however; SHOULD have known this right-off that something was very much amiss. however; please read on...
So the truck goes to Michigan. On 12.14 SOMEONE notices that the railcar belongs in Tampa, FL. so off the thing goes to Tampa. It does this via Michigan to Toledo, Ohio via KTP on Conrail. When it arrives at KTP the car is transferred to CSX train. Two weeks later it arrives at Tampa, FL. GREAT!... but not so fast, there. It arrives at 10am on 12.31.99. my, my, the railhead is CLOSED due to the holiday! what to do with the truck... hell, we'll return this railcar to KTP! yep, BACK to KTP it goes. this is during the 1st week of January. When it gets back to KTP, they say: what the hell? this railcar belongs at the xxx railhead in MICHIGAN! (the dealer code obviously was not changed on the railcar at this juncture)!! yep. BACK to Michigan it goes again for the 2nd TIME! Duh??? (probably) the same person who saw it there b4 sees it again! this railcar REALLY does belong in Tampa, FL. so here it goes again. as of yesterday morning the truck was sitting in a rail car at the railhead in Toledo, Ohio! awaiting return to KTP for the 3rd TIME! it probably is there now. so now we wait for the car to arrive at the CSX railhead in Tampa for the 2nd time! and THIS time everybody is looking for it!
And this, my friends is why we've been waiting almost 2 MONTHS AFTER the build and still have not seen our truck! the only fault with the dealer that I can find here is that they did not pick up the "Conrail" message on the vopc early on. But to their benefit we must remember that this is pretty routine stuff for them & they're not getting any calls from the customer (us) about the whereabouts (I'm checking the vopc myself at this time so why should I call them to get the same info?). it is around the 12.15 that I actually contact the dealer inquiring about the whereabouts (it was promised about that time...& no problem up to then as the truck had been built a couple of weeks earlier). it is at that time that they probably listened to the vopc.. but by that time the message had unfortunately changed (to NO message about Conrail being the carrier).
my suggestion: if you're going to have a screw up in destination it will occur right after the build out of KTP ship out because they obviously have some idiots working that area (and I sure the hell hope FORD is reading this message!). VERIFY with your dealer at THAT time (as soon as you have a vopc "shipped" message... which carrier serves YOUR dealers area). You may want to ask them this when you ORDER the vehicle. Then have THEM verify that the correct carrier has the truck when it's shipped out of KTP. And if you hear a DIFFERENT carrier (or NO carrier mention) on that initial announcement CALL your dealer immediately. if they ask why all the "fuss"? just hand them a copy of this (think that's legal... just can't re-post to somewhere else).
tracyo... our config is similar but we've opted for the 4.1 so mileage will suffer slightly when unloaded

Congrats on the order placement. Sounds like a great rig, and that your're being treated right by the guys in Belfast. Windchill in Brunswick on Monday was -35.

New Red:
250 CC,V10,4x4,Power TT,3.73LS, auto,265s,clearcoat red, XLT,camperpkg.,trailer pkg., off road pkg.,privacy glass/sliding rear, SB. ordered 10/19/99, Jacky Jones Ford, Cleveland, GA. build week sch. 2/7/00. I'm impatient, but no real hurry as long as ol'Red is running good. 115,000 on 5.0, no oil use.
Brutus- What did this plow mavin look like? Long pony tail? Apple cheeks? We are all cut from the same bolt...

Five Star Ford in Scottsdale AZ... I would die and go to hell before I would buy from them again.
Yesterday was 80 degrees with the wind chill factor. I guess I better dust off my swimming trunks!
The thing I like best about this site is that you can make dumb mistakes and nobody calls you on it. I'm ok now!
By the way, has anyone seen a Lariat with the Dk. Toreador Red and lower black accent? Is it nice? Woodland Green is definitely my second choice.
this is what stopped me from taking that accent with Harvest gold. Thats just my impression, I am sure lots of people like the black on the bottom.

SHARP LOOKING RIG!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL.
Sorry folks but I just could not resist, its the Harvest Gold thing I guess, Sorry again just trying for a few smiles.
Mainecowgirl:
congrats on the order, now the sweating about the "what ifs?" and "should I have ordered?" get to start. Hummmm matching colors for Truck, Trailer, Barn, that scares me
-5 Man you folks really do have winter, I don't think the lakes and ponds will ever freeze around here or there will ever be good snow for skiing.
P.S. I think you are very right about snow plowing women, Had friend who drove plow on Loveland Pass for CDOT, you just described her to a T.
Lilemo:
Are you calling my little pony Fat??
She is just big boned
Thanks to those who helped with the swapping of manual 99 TT mirrors for extendable manual 00 TT mirrors, they do bolt right up, BUT, and there always is one, the local dealer wants $400/pr, a little steep for no wires or servos.
Have fun

Schmitt Bros. Ford, Port Washington,WI. undecided if I would ever order another one from them.
Thanks.
'During Your Order' talks all about VOPC, how to call, numbers you need, and, most importantly, guideliness for use (of which the primary one is never, never, never talk to a real person, if you get one... hang up and place your call again
IMO, Edmunds Town Hall is good but ford-diesel.com is great
the gassers...
The recording appears to say foreign assembly plant but it may also consider Kentucky 'foreign'
Check your VIN (don't need a door post or anything). VIN is available before the truck is built. As I recall, VIN starting with '1' is KTP while VIN starting with '3' is Mexico.
mainecowgirl, one thing I learned a long time ago was not to comment on women's weight or appearance. I have absolutely no comment as to what the female city plow driver looked like.
I would love to see photo's of your rig. You have a web site you can post them at?
Thanks to everyone for answering the question on my "foreign truck".
I know.
I'm sure she figured out that your SD was just the newest member of the family. Where I live, I can only have a bunch (3) of dirty, slobbering old dogs right now. Together, they weigh about 250#.
as to the leather-in an earlier discussion, several reported that the leather/fake leather was easier to clean/keep clean than the cloth.
Highly recommend Larry Hindon.
mainecowgirl....leather will take 10 times the beating that the cloth interior will.
Lew...buddy....what can I say....AMAZING!!
John
adubahbi, there is about the same amount of room behind the CC rear as the front seat of a standerd cab, there is a small tray behind the the seat for storage, and enough room to add a cab mount storage tray to use for additional storage.
sangerplr: Maybe it was your truck I saw on El Camino Real near Los Altos when I was in that neighborhood week of Dec 13th.
Paul
I saw an SD regular cab short bed V10 once. I wonder how fast that monster can do. It must only weighs 3500 lbs?
When I ordered mine I was told I would have about two weeks to make changes, I tryed to change from a XLT to a Lariat after only one week and was told I was too late. Not a big deal I got all the other options. When I ordered my beast I got the dora two days later and knew what my build and delivery dates were the first week, once my build date was set they would not let me make any changes. In a way I am glad I didn't get the Lariat.
John

I read a post about deleting the factory cab steps from an order. I debated about the factory steps to the point that I tried to delete, but was too late. I happy with them now. I worried about the looks, but find that they are pretty unobtrusive. They are certainly hard to beat for positive footing, and are easy to hit in the dark. FWIW, I'm happy with 'em.
