new to posting but, have spent the last couple of weeks reading "ALL" of the Super Duty posts since day one of the forum. Yeah, it did take about 3 weeks of on & off reading. I now feel armed with all the info I need to make the best deal on a new 250SD......thanks to all of you.
I've decided on a 250 SC Lariat 2wd v10 manual 4.30 limited slip trailer towing pkg bucketts & a couple of other minor options. Color is still pretty much up in the air but, I'm leaning towards the bright red with the tan interior. I have plenty of time as I won't be ordering until sometime between March & May.
Question: Does Ford offer a painted lockable fiberglass tonnuo (sp?) with their accessories? I haven't been able to locate that specific info. The Ford dealership I visited didn't seem very interested in talking to me much less have a catalog handy to look at. Needless to say they won't be seeing me again.
Anyway, thanks again to all that post here. The information has been priceless.
Maine cowgirl: Congrats on your order. I'm leaning toward the Lariat, too, because I'm in the construction biz, and the leather/vinyl is easier to clean. Plus the canine unit insists on riding shotgun. Regarding colors, as I read the Ford lit.,you can get any color except silver in the Lariat, probably because someone at Fomoco decided it looked icky with the tan leather (the only Lariat interior color). I've seen woodland over gold, very nice and earthtone, and also one CC in bright amber over black-very sharp. Many SDs in white over silver and black over silver (but not Lariats).
All: Help! Intend to order 00 SC LWB V10 4x4 with camper pkg.and other options, but am undecided on F250 vs. F350 SRW. Does anyone out there have either of these configs. with camper pkg., and if so, what is the camper weight rating? I can't seem to find this info here or from Ford. If this topic has been covered elsewhere I'd appreciate a referral. Also, looking for dealers in the New England/New York area with good allocation.Thanks.
Already crawled underneath and did the required anti-rust painting that Ford doesn't seem to care about (best done as soon as you pick up the truck). Added the K-Mart $30 back up distance sonar. Works great. Since it has an audible "beeper" to help you know how far yoiur bumper is away from large objects such as cars and such, I just mounted the control box under the rear seat, sight unseen. Still waiting for my tranny temp gauge, though.
Hope you all are enjoying your trucks as much as I am. Keep the good info comin'
I guess it could be 'worse'. Like, someone selling the truck to someone else or maybe being wrecked during transit or something.
Get what you can as compensation from the dealer and from the factory, (although there's not much they can do to compensate)..
They (FoMoCo via regional rep) can give you an extended warranty (like 4yr). Thats worth a few $$ if you were to buy it. If ford stands behind their quality, it should cost them nothing..
I requested this (4yr warranty) for my 99 Windstar when it developed an engine oil leak they had trouble diagnosing. The dealership said 'no way' this simply can be done. The FoMoCo regional rep approved it, no flak at all.
I think I have the vality plate for your truck: WANDERER
Keep the spirits up - a year from now you'll be telling the story to your friends and laughing about it.
Good Luck!
Jeff L.
And it just all gets better....you have to go in and deal with Mikey!!!
Got a weird thing in the mail today...A Thanks for buying a 00 F150 ...from Ford....A booklet to help me figure out my truck....like how to read the gear lever crap... P R N D 2 1......and operation of the window buttons......Do they think I'm stupid or something....plus...since they think I own a 150....will I be missing any F250 goodies???....like the duffel bag.....I thought they were giving out blankets or chairs at one time......anyone get any good stuff????
I think I see why its taking so long. I didn't order a red one. Mine is the wedgewood blue with silver. I dealt with Waikem Ford here in Ohio.
The salesman has has been helpful. He said what makes it worst is you would think that a Z plan buyer woulld not have to wait 7months.(thats how long it will be by the time that I get it) that I order it.
sdman & mainecowgirl,
I don't have a website, but plan to get one on-line later in the Spring. I have a slide-in camper, so the plans for the website is to include pictures of the truck and camper, as well as photos of Alaskan camping and fishing. I won't be able to get a good wax job on the camper or truck until April, so I don't anticipate getting the website up and running until then. I can send the current photos via e-mail. My e-mail address is on my profile.
I've got the leather interior and have no complaints. I do a lot of camping and fishing and don't have any more problems keeping the leather clean than I did when I had the cloth seats in my last truck. As for the backseat, I've got the Supercab. In the summer, the back seat is folded down most of the season so I can keep some fishing and camping gear stored.
A friend of mine (who deals with the RR brokering coal) says their systems are pretty outdated. Glad you found your beast. I like that "WANDERER" plate idea, HOBO might work, or how about "RAILJOB". I'm real glad they found your truck.
Regarding seat covers: The leathers nice and doesn't capture odor, but it'll fry your butt, legs, and back on a hot Georgia afternoon, same as vinyl-but it IS tough and looks great. When I got my 94 150, I scotchgarded the interior immediately even though it supposedly was already done. "El Doggo" rides on the folded down back seat on a very thin matching grey carpet that is cut to fit and is velcroed to the back of the seat/shelf area. It folds up out of the way and out of sight when not in use by my slobbering friend (90# chocolate lab). The CC seat doesn't fold the same way, so I'll have to improvise again.
I use the carpet shampooer about one every 8-10 months and the seats look nearly new. Oh, I also put a piece of clear carpet runner across in front of the back seat in the floor (secured by the screws in the carpet trim to keep my kids nasty boot tracks off the carpet. Georgia clay is red and stains. This covers better than floor mats.
brutus: Saw a nice slide in on SD the other night and thought of you. Looking forward to your website. I visited Alaska a few years ago and flat LOVED IT. I want to go back soon.
I believe the Lariat has vinyl rear seats (leather only on the front).
Key to timely delivery on an order is a combination of dealer allocation and commodity availability (ie, engine, tranny, etc).
From what I've read elsewhere, typical is usually 10-12 weeks with some much shorter and some much longer...
F250: GVWR 8800 Max cargo 2482
F350: GVWR 9900 Max cargo 3594
These are based on the gas engine, any options weight would have to be deducted. These already include the additional weight and increased strength of the camper package. As you probably know, the dually option would give approximately 1100 lbs more. Good hunting!!
Also, note that the SC rear seats are different in 2000 vs 99. In 2000, the seat folds up (60/40 split), so you have full access to the rear cab floor, and the capability to store stuff under the seats.
The seat back in 2000 is a full seat, and not 1/2 seat back, 1/2 bolster. Still no rear headrest though.
Y2K F250 XLT 4x2 SC 5.4L 5sp 4.10LS
Purchased at Capital Ford Raleigh NC, (highly recommend Ed Sanders).
16.7 mpg.
Mostly mixed driving to/from work (not much highway).. Although I did have a trip or 2 to the MX track..
Overall my averages have been just above 15mpg..
Crazy, I also got one of those rather unique F150-How to drive books. What is up with that?? Did ford want to save money from printing a 250-booklet?? If so, maybe someone should tell the printer that the 250 number didn't make it!! Hey, if you see a mid 50's couple lost somewhere between Tampa and Miami...its probably my parents!! They are currently enjoying a week away from the 8" of snow we have here in ILL. right now.
....truck still working great...although with hubs locked in...mileage in town goes to about 7 or 8!!
I have always wondered what those letters stood for on the shift indicator.
John
Have a dealer who claims he will order me one for $200 over invoice seems like a good deal, what do you all think?
Thanks
Gossamar, what's up with that mpg? With winter gas, duallys, 4x4 locked in, 4.30, idling about 10 minutes each morning, and a fairly heavy foot, I don't get that low.
To all the Super Duty people in this group thanks for all of the good info it has been very helpful.
Dogwood- It seems like there are two different types of Ford truck dealers. The ones that have trucks on their lot, want WAY too much for them and won't even give you the time of day if you want to order new. I originally dealt with a dealer (Whited Ford-Bangor,Maine DO NOT deal with them!) that had lots of 250's,some V10's, most with plows. They didn't have the cofig. I wanted, and when I asked the salesman over the phone to give me a price for the truck I wanted (I had faxed him the specs) he 1) asked if I had been working with any other dealers(in a tone of a man asking his wife if she had slept with any other men!) 2)asked if I had been on the internet looking up prices and 3) when I kept insisting I just wanted to get a price asked me, "Well, what would YOU like to pay for this truck?" I said $1000, but I didn't think that would work so why didn't he just get a price to me. He said an order would take 6-8 months. That was last week, and I never heard back from him. I ended up going to a local dealer with no trucks on the lot, got invoice and saw that their record of past orders was getting trucks there in 3-4 months, about average. Good luck and take advice from these posts. They are invaluable!
And finally lewac- I think there is going to be a nationwide celebration when we get the news that your truck has arrived. Step outside just after you post, and you'll probably hear the faint cheers!
Bucs....almost got past the Rams today.....all bummed out now.....oh well...next year!!!
V-10 and V8 I can't really say from experience
since I went with the PSD but I am sure others here will tell you the same thing.
Got my truck at Robbinson Ford Calexico Calif
00 F350 CC DRW 4X4 PSD with all the bells and whistles. Fair deal, In just over six weeks, one
day latter than promised.

Vehicle
F250 SD CC, SB, V-10, 4WD, ESOF, 3.73LS, Lariat, Leather, Two Tone, CD, Tow Package, 265/75 tires.
History
Order 8-31 at $100 over invoice
DORA 9-1 Not sure which priority but it wasn't 10.
"Clean and Unscheduled" till Dec 9th
"Scheduled" week of Jan 31st till today.
Fast approaching 5 months.
Good luck to everyone waiting
I wonder if it's possible to send a gooseneck trailer to KY to get it? Probably safest to leave it on the railcar.
I could be wrong, so someone correct me, but if you have even a little snow or wet, the tires will have enough slippage not to cause problems if you are in 4wd for extended periods. I tend to pop my truck out of 4wd when I enter a parking a lot since I will making some sharp 90 turns. Otherwise, I am 4wd quite a bit in the winter.
Well now, anyone but me noticing the sudden flurry of build schedules for CCs no matter when they were ordered? It appears that no matter what priority or when you order, FoMoCo "batches" similar beasts together. Makes sense, I guess unless you ordered 3-5 months ago like you and I. Timing is everything I suppose. Hang in there.
My 250 CC,V10,auto,3.73LS,XLT,4X4 was ordered 10/19/99 and my build week is supposed to be 2/7. How interesting. My "salesman" told me the 4X4 was holding it up. Baloney.
I guess we're just seeing the Just in Time mfg. process at work.
I'm over 3200 miles on my deep wedgewood blue 00 F350 SRW PSD 6SPD 4WD LB SC and got 18.8 mpg on my last tank (some city, more highway).
Trayco - I had my oil changed at 2984. The dealer from whom I bought was the only person I knew that recommended 5000 mile oil changes. It turns out their $79 charge includes tire rotation. The oil change without rotation was $64.80 at another dealer. Not worth doing myself (besides I don't have anything to catch 15 quarts of oil under my truck).
I know that some of you will say that this is because I don't have the LS but since I don't have a way to compare - I can't say.
I drove my old truck like this for 115,000 miles and never had any problems with the 4wd.
Go Titans!!!!
I just received the same F150 owners guide book you did, for the purchase of my f250sd CC, lwb, V10, 4x4 , 3.73 I was wondering the same thing. Am I going loose out on free stuff for buying my SD if these bozos think I bought a f150?.. I hope not after my 4 month wait.
Mileage update. 1450 miles so far. All rural, up and down Pennsylvania hills. mostly unloaded. 10 mpg very consistently..
weeks of no build date (unscheduled) I bought a
PSD instead. Dealer sold it to me for $500 below
invoice because I had to wait so long. Sorry I
let down you more disciplined waiters by caving in
to a good deal. I lost my self control.
I love this diesel. 1st tank got 18.2 mpg. 85%
highway and 15% town.
Can someone educate me on this. Thanks.
crazyelvis- I used to spend a lot of time with a friend in Greenfield, MA, and we were along the Mohawk Trail all the time. I remember the Oxbow Resort! I still compete my horses at Stoneleigh-Burnham School in Greenfield every year. That's a beautiful area.
My status is about exactly as yours. I ordered my truck on Sept.3rd. "Clean and unscheduled" till Dec. 10th. Then "scheduled week of 31st. Then changed today to "As of Feb. 1st, locked in for production week of Jan. 31st for delivery to dealer week of feb. 14.
2000 F250 SD CC, SB, V-10, 4X4, ESOF, 3.73, XLT,White, Prem CD, Tow.,265/75 tires
I feel like I have got a good deal.Trading a 99 f250, XLT, 5.4L,Auto, 4:10, LB, SC for the 2000. Price difference $6700.00. When I made the deal in Sept of 99 the truck had 19000 miles on it. Now it has 29000 miles. The longer it takes the sweeter the deal gets. Going to have to do something soon though the tires are ready to have some attention.
I am just not happy with the 5.4L at all.
My dealer is Don Smith Ford in Greeneville,Tn. I recommend them highly!

rflint- your truck has the same specs as mine. I've got about 1000 mi on it. I have the 265/75 AT's and my mileage in town is only 10 mpg (and I don't have a heavy foot). I've read the tires could have something to do with it. What do you have on yours?
