Oh. I love that. Unless it is an Alfetta. Then I don't.

It's an Alfetta, style later sold as the GTV6.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,393
That explains why the Alfetta always reminded me of the GTV! I always kinda wanted one of those. I assume the all rusted away by now. at least anywhere near me.

I suspect the threat of rust and electrical quirks can make them exciting to own.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yup, it was sold in the mid-late 70s as an Alfetta GTV6. That name has been used since the 60s in nearly every generation of Alfas on cars of varying types but all have been four placers w V6 motors.

My bad Tex, the GTV6 does have a hood bump. My blue car is an Alfetta GTV2000

I don't see it, closest to the liquor sign is a brown Lincoln, ca. 49-51. Behind it in black over yellow is the newest visible car, a '51-'53Oldsmobile (hard to tell which).

I think the Ford is the black car parked in the lot whose front end view is bisected by the liquor sign post.

I'll take the blue Caddy convertible parked at the curb at the far end, in front of what appears to be a rather old vehicle whose make I cannot identify.

Car behind the Caddy could be a ~38 Nash, as those have a similar style and were often seen with skirts.
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,399
Yes, that’s the Ford I’m talking about. I think it’s the only Ford.

I think that blue covert could be a Buick. i found Tmart's shoebox Ford.

A couple of things that strike me about this pic. I'm almost old enough to remember some of the show biz figures of the day but I never heard of most of the acts on the sign. I'm trying to picture Jane Powell but I couldn't. IMDB to the rescue>

You can see a sign towards the right for radio station KLAS, which I happened to represent when I worked in national radio ad sales many years after the picture was taken.

That Buick convertible is a 49 Super, most likely. The Roadmaster had chrome spats on the front of the rear fender flares. Or we could count the portholes.

Also from Vegas, a late-'60s shot of McCarron Airport. Is that a young Dan Tanna walking away from that 2-seat T-bird?

68 Fairlane (doesn't appear to be a Torino) 2 door HT near the Shell truck.

That Chevy is a '59 but not an Impala. There wasn't an Impala 2-door sedan. The 2-door was a hardtop.

The car between the '59 Impala and the Chevelle convertible is a four door Falcon ('60-'63).
on the other side of the Impala is a '64 T-Bird and a '59 Olds next to that

Well, here's another one to stay away from, I'm guessing early to mid-1950s. Lots of different cars to ID here. A great picture too. Imagine back then pulling up to something as modern as this place.

Good question. It's kind of small so I'd guess an import, possibly an English Ford. The blue car next to it has the roofline of a Kaiser or Frazer and it's the color of my families' '47 Frazer. I can make out a fender bulge so perhaps it's a Caddy.

The green car parked in front of the red MoPar convertibles is a '54 Merc.

Real modernism, as opposed to 21st century mcmodernism.

Car fully in the shot closest to the camera at right looks like a 51-52 Pontiac Catalina 2 door HT, somewhat scarce car I think. I notice it appears to have a spotlight, not just a modern day addition.

A curious thing I noticed - the car parked behind the Pontiac at the curb, which I believe to be a Cadillac, is painted light blue or gray, yet has red-painted wheels. Since it is not sporting any hubcaps I wonder if that was factory, or instead an owner addition.

That's right guys, it's a 1966-69 Fiat Dino Spider 2000 with V6 power designed by Ferrari and styled by Pininfarina. IMO the best looking Fiat ever made and the coolest. ;)

It's tin-top companion, the Dino Coupe 2000 was styled by Bertone.

Let's go back to late-1950s Las Vegas. Seems like the Hacienda was a very egalitarian place, attracting those that drove both luxo-boats and also the first wave of European compacts:

I think you're right, but that one had me stumped. Given the little of it we could see, I could have been convinced it was some sort of M-B coupe.

I'm not sure what the car far left is. A Falcon has a straight shoulder to the top of the rear quarter panel: that car has a slight hump effect to the rear quarter panel, emulating the days of separate fenders front and rear in styling.

And the blue mystery car has chromed window trim. I don't think a Falcon had that.
