That's the original Trailer Park Boys isn't it?

The car is a ‘58 Plymouth, I believe a Belvedere.

Found this photo from the early ‘60s which is interesting enough on its own merits but which also has a couple of fairly obscure cars as well.

Some easy ones, a 60-62 Buick Special compact on left the a Chevy Corvair coupe. Little one by door? White '57(?) Olds then a dark something I can't make out.

The little 2-tone by door could be a Fiat Millecento (1100).

Is that dark car on the left a '55-ish Rambler?

Small car at left, Hillman Minx. Small car in the middle, two tone, appears to be a Glas Isar, related to a Goggomobil.

It's next to the tailfins of a 1961 Caddy, recognizable by the lower tailfins in addition to those on top of fenders.

    @andys120

I think at WD40 corrosion control - and probably with good reason - your Minx might be it's relative the Singer Gazelle - the diagonal script should read Gazelle although some Minxes with automatic transmission had a diagonal "Automatic" badge here I recall.

The chrome boot handle is also different with a circular badge for Singer whilst the Hillman one was straight across after the mark II Minx too.

Yep, a Ranch Wagon, I suppose the two door is pretty rare these days. Nice color for it, must have been at least a few years old in the pic, by the whitewall width. My dad's wagon had the same hubcaps, but also had thick beauty rings which with the caps filled the wheel.

Good spot on the hiding 60 in the pic I posted yesterday, too.

Seattle again, 1959 per the source, should be able to zoom in a bit as usual:

56 Ford approaching, going away, 55 Ford, two 57 Fords, a wagon, Club Sedan, and a four door hardtop, and a 59 Ford wagon. All things considered, a large number of Fords.

That was my first reaction also. Aside from that I am curious about the early '50s convertible ahead and to the right of the '59 Ford wagon.

    1949 Chevy.

Can't see enough of the black convertible other than to tell it's a GM car of the '49-'52 generation but definitely not a Pontiac (no chrome stripes).
The VW coming towards camera is the sole "import"

  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
I thought the VW was the only import too but then I looked again at the little wagon ahead of the panel van and obscured by that convertible - that wagon is quite little and made me think of a Simca Aronde wagon, I think they called the wagon the Chatelaine or something.

I agree, the little wagon ahead of the panel van is an import. I couldn't tell what it was due to what is visible, I first thought maybe a Ford Anglia 100E Squire or Thames kind of wagon, but some details don't seem to fit.

Seattle again, 1955 - traffic isn't a new thing here. Lots of late model cars, and I think a couple imports. It'll zoom in, but detail isn't crisp:

Interesting to see how Chrysler altered the body shells of the '55/'56 models to allow some parts sharing despite different wheelbase lengths. Both the Plymouth and the DeSoto next to it use the same front door (and possibly also the same windshield), but on the longer car the rear door is lengthened.

3 Mopars from the '46-'49 gen. Two making a left and the other going straight across inter-section. Lots of two-tone cars. Newest seem to be 1956 (Chevy, Ford, Chrysler.)

I remember his having that Pontiac 1000 with its steering wheel and shaft not directly facing the driver but facing slightly toward the left, toward the driver's door. Every Pontiac 1000 I've seen had that non centered steering wheel and shaft. I guess GM didn't think buyers would care or would not notice.

Nice mix in Seattle. Rather disappointed that no Vauxhall or Hillman presence but the two cars behind the leading trolleybus are Austins. The grey sedan is an A40/A50 Cambridge and the black convertible with white hood would seem to be an A40 Sports
Parked dark car on right second before the intersection is a Hudson. I think the light car with dark roof to the left of that Hudson is about a 50 Oldsmobile maybe

This is that Simca Wagon I suggested on earlier post - Simca Aronde Chatelaine. Even the way the two tone is split looks similar

  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,355
I don't know how many more pics of the 1960 Ford we can take here but I was saving this one to go out with a bang on that subject. Smail Ford in Pleasantville NJ circa late 1959 or Spring of 1960. Looks like someone traded in their obsolete 1st-gen T-bird for one with more seats, shrewd move. :s

Another Ranch Wagon no less, with a Volvo 444/544 behind it. This Ranch Wagon appears to have some options, with whitewalls, full wheel covers, and reverse lights. 60 Fairlane parked on the street in front of the wagon, maybe so new that the hubcaps haven't been installed yet. Peeking around the the corner of the brick building, to the right of the T-Bird, is the rear of another 60 Ford wagon.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,535
Looks really close to me. Simca was sold here, but I've never seen a USDM wagon, has to be extraordinarily rare.

Just like the A40 Sports, never seen one.

I’ll grab the 57 Ford wagon, and 55 Tbird.
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,355
I can't easily tell the '55 T-bird from the '56, but I do note that the one in the pic has the portholes in the hardtop like a '56 would. But I also know it was popular to refit them to '55 hardtops. I'll take the new '60 Ford wagon lurking behind the building since from the rear trim visible it looks like either a Country Sedan or possibly even a Country Squire.

The Bird is a 55 because for 56 the continental kit was stock. Ford did so because of complaints of the trunk being too small. Easy fix was to move the spare tire out of the trunk to make more room. Similar to what GM did about complaints of poor mileage on the GTO. People complained of having to filling up too often. A larger gas tank “solved” the problem.

The Sports was rare here in some ways and I only remember seeing one or two when I was a kid in the sixties by which time they were getting old. Most of the times I have seen them since has been car shows.

I have seen one of those Simca Aronde wagons in Europe but didn't recall one here although they were sold here.
However I found a picture of one taken in Britain when I was looking for something else a while back...

Also, in Australia the Simca importer there made a special four door Estate car version of the circa 1960 Aronde - all the French Aronde Estates were two door - and I found a picture of one of those recently too but can't presently post it.

We did get the estates of the 1300 /1500 Simca and the three and five door Simca 1100 was available and common here in the early 70's but almost extinct now

Hmmm, but the 1955 TBird had no portholes.
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,403
    edited August 2020
True, the 55 didn’t come stock with portholes, but they could be added, or use a top from the 56.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,535
I bet most Simca here didn't survive the 60s, I suspect parts were really tough. At least with Austins, parts might have been easier - I have seen a number of the brand over the years, the Devon sold fairly well for at least a short period.

Tacoma Mall, might be around 1970 - this mall still exists, although I think the wild 60s modern interiors are long gone:

At The Bon Marche there's a first-gen Corvette hiding between the two delivery vans. I think I see a '68 Cutlass pulling into a spot on the right side.
