A surprising number of AMC products there - several Gremlins, a Hornet hatch, and an Ambassador.

I believe I also see an Austin Marina 4-door sporting a vinyl roof.

Iso something, one of the first of the marque, I think.

It's a 1962 Iso Rivolta IS 300, coachwork by Bertone, mechanicals mostly by Chevrolet (Corvette). This not the first Iso, their was the tiny but influential Isetta (Isetta being the Italian diminutive of Iso). The Rivolta was a collaboration of Renzo Rivolta, an appliance maker and Giotto Bizzarini, one of the designers of the Ferrari 250 GTO. The IS300 beingone of the first of several Euro/American hybrid Gran Turismos of the era.

man you canadians loved Gremlins and Dusters. maybe I was kidnapped from Canada as a baby since I had both of those?

Mid 70's Datsun under the tree. 2 door. Not sure if a 610 or 701.

I'll pick one off, beige Scirocco at the right end of the 3rd row in the foreground. Not the snazziest color.

Car under the tree makes me think of an early 70s Toyota Corona hardtop, but hard to see the details.

I didn't note the bicycle make as I was distracted by the distracted driver. Seems like some things never change.

Just above the 60 Impala 2 door HT at center left looks like a P2 Opel Rekord.

Maybe a 60 Ford or fintail lurking somewhere.

57 Ford Country Squire. I think there’s a square Bird over the right shoulder of the bicyclist.

On the right, a '63 or '64 Buick wagon.

On the right, a '63 or '64 Buick wagon.

And it is a brand-new Buick wagon with a temporary tag in the rear window and just a dealer license plate frame but no plate yet.

The oldest car is also a Buick, the white/black Special h/t coming from left is a '55 or '56.

At Burbank parked nose on to the blue VW is a white Studebaker from mid fifties - something like a Commander or similar - Dinky toys did a version of it.... EDIT - actually I think my one was a President
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,528
To the left of the Karmann-Ghia I might spy a 60 Ford. Looks like a black and white 66 Caprice next to the Stude, maybe the newest car in the pic.

No missing a '60 Ford when @fintail is on the case!

If look directly down from the NBC logo on the building and just slightly to the left, is that a Renault Dauphine?

    It's a gift :)

Yep, the kind of pale blue small car below NBC is almost certainly a Dauphine.

Lots of variety in this 1960s shot. I'll call the red Mini Traveler ahead of the '64 Catalina in middle lane.

Those are some wiiiiiiide fenders on that garbage truck, at least the driver has those white wands to let him know where they are.

    Where's that pic from?

55 Chevy in front of the apparent garbage truck (which I can't place but seems familiar).

It's a Toronto pic, been bouncing around a number of sites for a while.

I believe the garbage truck is a 1950s White.

    Reddish 1965 Pontiac Parisienne.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Left lane at the rear behind the red dump trucks a Buick which I think is a 54.
The Mini Traveller has no grille but the shape of the badge on the bonnet shows it is an Austin so its a Countryman
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Fin I missed your comment on that Brazilian Simca somehow as it was at the foot of a page for me.
I see what you mean about the Ford and AMC influences - my first thought when I saw the picture was AMC due to the vertical lights and the grille shape.

The car behind the red Daphine would be a Ford Falcon in the US. I think in Canada it's a Meteor Frontenac.

No, I think it's a Falcon since I can't see any evidence of the round grille center.

    image

The Frontenac was only made here for the 1960 model year. It was supposed to be revised for 1961 but Ford decided to bring the Comet here for Mercury dealers to sell instead.

Here is the only pic of the proposed 1961 model I have ever seen:

Exiting the Battery Tunnel, NYC, March 1973. This pic blows up nicely. That must have been one heckuva merge:

The 1960 had more than its share of maple leaf imagery. The grille center had a smaller one than what was proposed for '61:

    image

There was also maple leaf imagery on the bodyside emblem, hubcaps, and steering wheel center:

There are lots of fun merges around NYC bridges and tunnels.

Volvo 164 coming out of the tube. And an early blue gremlin top right behind a green dodge van.

Top left, brown barge cougar with a half vinyl roof. THe 70s, were all about style.

We must make sure Canadians know this is the car for them!

I have the little book "Red Green Talks Cars", where he makes fun of this, I think one of the names he suggested is "Puckmobile" B)

Nope, I stand by what I said. '61 Plymouth, Edsels and various Panhards included, the Frontenac is the worst.

    Disappointing, I see '59, '61, '62 Fords but not a single '60!

Mid picture a little to left heading toward camera a black sedan w 4 headlights, a Humber Super Snipe! Rootes Groups hot export luxo-sedan!

Cabs are almost all either Checkers or Fords except '61 Chevy going left thru intersection.

Is that a '60 Ford taxi I see lurking behind the white '61 Chevy wagon?

An alien visiting from the planet Zontar would believe that the 3 most popular vehicle types were Chevy, Ford and Checker.

The Ford behind the white wagon looks like a 61 to me.

I see a non-Ford/Chevy/Checker cab, looks like a 60 Dodge behind the rightmost 61 Chevy wagon.

It’s funny - I get a cable station that runs the 1960s Mission: Impossible series in the afternoons and I have the DVR record them so on nights when nothing on TV is worth watching I can fill a few hours. These were a Desilu production and outside scenes were all filmed in Southern California so they had to make some compromises when a plot took them to some fictional Eastern European country. They often used Checkers to represent (presumably) Soviet-made autos used by governments to drive senior officials around. Lots of VWs, Citroen’s and Benzes in western European places.

A friend of mine is doing something similar, only with the series Adam 12.

He was commenting that the personal cars of the two main characters seem to be reversed. The single guy drives the boring 4 door sedan, while the married cop gets a C2 Corvette.

That reminds me of an episode or two of MacGyver back in the day - it took place somewhere in the eastern bloc or Russia, the cars were USDM Volvos, a couple fintails I think, Citroen, etc. Also Rocky IV in the USSR with USDM MBs.
