You're right, it is 626 based... it's the 1987-1992 Ford Telstar, sold in Oceania and Japan. The Corsair was actually sold alongside the Telstar (even though they were close in size; I believe the Telstar was the more "luxurious" and, as we'd soon find out, the more reliable)
Linking close to this, can you give me the name of this car and, for a cookie, what the bodystyle was called?
Andys was right in that it was an Aussie model. Bumpy was close, as this was badged as a Ford. Fintail was right that it was Japanese. Kyfdx was right in that it was a hatchback style.
It's a 1989-1993 Nissan Pintara Superhatch. This was an Oceania-exclusive bodystyle, which combined elements of a hatch, and a wagon, like a precursor to the Chevy Malibu Maxx. It was also badged as a Ford Corsair, and you guys would probably know the sedan version as the Nissan Stanza.
As I recall (bear in mind I am a young'un), the Pintaras/Corsairs were dogged with poor reliability and quality. They basically sunk Nissan Australia, and they closed down plants here because it was no longer feasible. I see the odd Pintara Sedan around (friend of a friend has one as a temporary car), but Corsairs and Superhatches are few and far between. However, I must admit an odd fascination I had with the sporty Pintara TR-X.
It's about as classy as any late-80's Japanese standard edition sedan with an afterthought bodykit. It was available all in white, too! :P
Alrighty, I shall shut up for a while. Keep the cars comin', guys!
I was thinking it might have been Bertone. The front of the car reminds me of a Fiat 850 Coupe.
So there's a car made in Argentina by a former subsidiary of an American company (Kaiser) now owned by a French company using an American chassis design and Italian body styling. Goes to show there's nothing new about globalization, I guess.
And who knows what parts/pieces came from where! I hadn't been to one of these in years and forgot how much fun they are. I've got video too! Once I have some time, I plan to upload it and then link it to my CS page. :shades:

"Keeps on tickin" looks like a 70s Buick coupe, Electra maybe?
"A true compact" - Dodge Colt?
"Seen better days" looks like a Dodge pickup, 80s I'll say.
"The Winner" is a full-size GM C/K pickup. Year could be late 80s early 90s. Ish.
Pic089 looks like 80s Dodge Omni, then 70s Pacer (?), then 70s Ford Pinto wagon.
"Definitely not a love tap" I'll guess Chevy Malibu, early 80s, and then Ford LTD, also early 80s.
Boy is it hard to tell! All you see clearly are doors!

"I used to be" looks like another Buick. I recall the side windows with the heavy B pillar.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
If you drove one, you'll know what I mean

You know it Fin.
I can still recall when the son of our next door neighbors drove out from Hollywood in the mid-50s in a white Skylark and visited them.
Leo Gordon had a distinguished career in show business. You've probably seen him in old movies or TV shows.

Prewar cars are tough, they all look alike to us of the WWII and after generations, that's why I suggested we exclude them in post #1.
