Well, I think this is a Suzuki, probably an Alto, from the days when that was built in Japan, rather than India, where we get them from now - it would appear anyway that this one is JDM judging by the weird mirrors. It is registered as a 73/74 model, and presumably wasn't imported here when new, but I must say I don't recall having seen that model on the road...
EDIT - I've just realised the Alto wasn't the only Suzuki then - is this a Fronte ?

Bingo, '74 Suzuki Fronte is correct!

    Siata, I think - don't know the model, although they did make a 1500, and a 1600...
    I'd guess mid-fifties...
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Close enough, it's a Siata Daina Gran Sport ca. 1955.

Holden HSV SV08, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original Monaro.
  • hudsonthedoghudsonthedog Member Posts: 552
Wouldn't you think the anniversary edition would be named after the vehicle being revered? Would that be akin to a 2010 55th anniversary Thunderbird tribute being given to the Mustang?

Doesn't look like a ragtop to me, unless it's some kind of cloth hardtop.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
    Yep, it's a 66 Merc but not a Marauder, a Montclair.

Au contraire, it is a ragtop, by the mid 60's FoMoCo was doing a reverse of what GM did in the early 60's and making their convertibles look like H/Ts. (GM H/Ts from '62-'64 had faux convertible rooflines).

Are you sure about that? Could that be a mislabeled pic?

I have never seen a 1966 Fomoco convertible with the concave roofline, nor one with large rear quarter windows. But I have seen then with the typical smaller quarter windows and flat roofline, Like this And this Or this Or this

Not only could it be but based on your photos of similar cars, I think it must be.

    It's all their fault.

    Left to right:

    1973 Chevrolet (Caprice or Impala)
can't tell what the far dark car is but looks to be a Plymouth Fury
    Volkswagen 411
(sorry, not up on my trailers or boats)
    1969 Chevrolet (Caprice or Impala)
1973-ish Chevrolet (Caprice or Impala) wagon
    1969 Oldsmobile Delta 88
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
I think you've got 'em covered Hudson except that the dark car you identified as a Fury looks like a smaller Dart or Valiant ca. late 60s-early '70s.

I can't argue with any of hudsonthedog's picks here, except that the VW sedan is more likely a 1973 or 1974 412 model (taillight placement is the giveaway).

I'm a VW nut yet even I've almost forgotten about those pre-passat cars.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
You might be right Karsick. IMCDB sez it's a 412.

    Daimler SP250
    Corvette - I'm guessing a 62
    Ferrari 250 SWB

Correct on the Daimler and the Ferrari but the 'Vette is a '61, '62s had no chrome strip outlining the side coves.

1965 Mercury with the Breezeway roof. Not sure if it's a Monterrey or a Montclair.

According to the badge it isn't a Monterrey or a Montclair.

Got lost in the shuffle didn't it? It's the latest iteration of the Elfin Clubman, known as the Type 5. Unlike earlier Elfins which used Corvette V8s(IIRC), the Type 5 uses the Turbo 4 from the Solistice GXP. Elfins hail from Down Under.

Yes, it is - and that is the only one I've ever seen. It's a Progres NC300, from about 1991/2 - grey import from Japan, of course. Interestingly, the badge on the back, and the front end, make no mention of Toyota at all - only the British tax disc in the windscreen gives the game away. I wonder if the Progres was sold in Japan as some sort of separate marque, in the way Dodge Darts were sometimes promoted as a separate make in the Sixties.
