Yep that's the Datsun B210 '73-'78. 0It's a measure of how bad small American cars were back then that this car looked good and sold well.

It was the Datsun Sunny 210 in the JDM.

I'm going with 1955 Lincoln, but it's just a guess since I don't think the signal lights are the right shape. :confuse:

    Peugeot, for sure. 205 GTi?
  • michaellnomichaellno Member Posts: 4,120
Looks like a 205 GTI .. they just restored and flipped one on "Wheeler Dealers" a few episodes back.

"they just restored and flipped one on "Wheeler Dealers" a few episodes back. "

I'm always amazed at the kind of parts they can get for those cars, relatively cheaply. The British seem to have a kind of store we lack over here, where you go in and get, say, a hood for a 1980 BMW for $200. They also seem to have no problem getting complete trim kits for the plastic bumper covers on 20-year old 205 GTIs, cheap.

From what I've read in "Practical Classics" and some of the other enthusiast mags from over there, there's also a willingness to "bodge" a solution to a problem if the parts don't exist any more. With so many orphaned marques, it makes sense.

I wonder if we'll be doing the same thing for '09 Challengers and Camaros in 20-30 years. . .

I was thinking the CS and CZ gives it away...but then the mudflaps really give it away :P

It's a Skoda from maybe the mid 70s, I don't know the model. Somehow I like old Skodas, and Tatras are of course very cool.
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
Yes, fintail, it's a Skoda. The guy who restored it says it's an S110R. I'm not sure of the year.

Here's another shot of the car. It's sort of "lovably ugly," in my view, like a Type III VW or perhaps a Hino Contessa Coupe.

Yep that's a Pug 205GTI, a worthy competitor to the VW Golf/Rabbit GTI back in the 1980s

It looks cheap and cheerful. The Czechs did a relatively good job given the conditions of the time.
  • michaellnomichaellno Member Posts: 4,120
I have to admit, I'm kinda amazed by that, as well. Granted, many of the parts are "pattern", which means that poor ol' Ed has to trim them to size.

All things considered, I thought that 325 Touring turned out really well. Doesn't hurt to have a guy like Ed handy, however. The sunk costs are a bit misleading since they don't count labor, but I guess the show is intended for folks who can DIY and have the space and tools necessary to do that kind of work.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,144
On that 1980 325i Touring - nice how the salesman (I forget his name) told the buyer it had a 'stainless steel exhaust'...not quite, but the buyer got a bargain anyway. I'd have like a chance at it, looked like a fun little wagon.
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994

Agreed. The yellow paint helps a great deal. I think the Skoda coupe and the Fiat 850 I posted a couple of days ago share a lot of design elements, but the Fiat has perfect proportions. The Skoda is, well, not so perfect. Still, if I lived somewhere in Europe I'd probably go looking for one to play with.

The Skoda coupes were called Rapids iirc.

Unfortuantely I can't participate in this chat during the day cause the computer guy blocked everything and although I have access to the edmunds site, most pictures aren't showing  Same goes for obsucre car spotting and project cars with ebay links.:cry:

Aren't you in internet sales? And the censors have ebay blocked for you? WTH?

I think you need to have a chat with the internet guy...maybe bring a baseball bat or a mace along with you incase you can't get through the usually arrogant ego of the IT dork :shades:
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Simca - I think this is a 1000 coupe, from about 1963, but it could be the Simca-Abarth 1300, which used the same shell, from a year or so later. I think it is the basic car though, as the Abarth would usually have loads of extra badges and vents. It's a Bertone design.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
You're close Magnette, it's a 1968 Simca 1200 S Bertone. IIRC Bertone did the styling for both of the 850 Sports (Coupe & Spider), I wouldn't be surprised if Bertone had a hand in designing the Skoda Rapid as well.

  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
Yeah I am in internet sales. Apparently that's instructions from head office: no ebay, no facebook (although I do advertsie on it), I even had to fight to keep craigslist up as most of ym internet business comes from there. We don't do any ebay sales any ways, but it would be good to have that site available.

I think I might resort to buying a laptop with my own wireless connection and just working off that.

Sometimes I don't like to be treated like a 5 year old.

As so many do sell on ebay, I would think it could be used as a gauge for market conditions.

Sounds like the head office is staffed by intelligent responsible people who earn their pay and deserve their positions. Such people are the reason why businesses succeed

Micromanagement is a good way to run a place into the ground.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,144
The new SRX - just when GM has me almost convinced that they've seen the light, will build unique vehicles and stop the incessant copycat models, they come out with this. Replace a clearly unique model with one that looks like others, and what's worse, cheaper ones.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,593
GM product strategists seem to be more of those intelligent responsible people who truly earn their pay and deserve their showy positions and bloated salaries. To think that these product decisions are made by people who are likely far wealthier than you or I can hope to be. Look what they have done.

My place of work forbids access to sites such as facebook, primarily because we have had a number of fairly junior staff who have been caught spending hours on such sites, to the detriment of their - and our - work. One of the unexpected problems this has given rise to is that sites such as flickr, where I store my photos are blocked, too. This means when I look at this site while at work (like now) I can only see some of the posted photos, and yet if I sign in, to post a response, I use my home iinternet address for the log-in, and then I can see some of the photos. There are some I don't see at all until I use my home computer...
I agree that this can be opressive, and shows a lack of trust in staff, but there is also an element - here as elsewhere - who take undie advantage. We had one bloke who never turned out a piece of work on time, and when his manager walked in unexpectedly the bloke was writing an article for some horoscope site...(he couldn't have been very good at horoscopes, or he would have known that was going to happen)

    Ford Fiesta Mk1 Europe, late 70's—early 80's.

Actually, a (ca) 1979 Ford Fiesta L, very popular in Spain at the time; I believe the registration plate of the ("more modern") van behind is a Spanish one.

    Regards,
    Jose

a customized 59 Buick Invicta. My god, that trunk is loooong! The fins look larger too.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Actually, that's an illusion. The top looks like it was chopped making the trunk appear longer than it is.
  • lokkilokki Member Posts: 1,200
Right you are.... What a beauty (assuming that you believe like I do that nothing exceeds like excess)!

Truely a car for one of the Masters of the Universe (assuming a different color, or a different universe, of course).

And Lemko is right, of course - (Hey it's a Buick and Lemko knows Buicks), the roof has been chopped but even stock that trunk is purty darn looooooooog
