I'll just take the furriner, that Saab 93 must have seemed pretty alien there and then.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Absolutely. Look at quickly smart phones age. 3G? Old school now, you need 4G. By the time you get that they will be on 6G. :D
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
You can have the oil smoker 2 cycle Saab, I'll take the 58 Pontiac, or even the 56 Dodge.

Hey Berri, take a closer look at the '58 Pontiac - I think it looks more like a '58 Chevy!!! (see the quad signal lights rather than the dual Pontiac ones).

BUT, what's that behind the Saab? Is it a '54-'55 Kaiser??????
  • jwilliams2jwilliams2 Member Posts: 910
    I think it's a Studebaker....
  • explorerx4explorerx4 Member Posts: 20,864
The built in screens are pretty large now.
I don't think I would like one of for 4 inch screens the portable units have.

Good eye WGrafer, it is a Chevy, the Poncho did not have that dual signal lamp cluster>

I think I'm going to have to agree w Jwilliams, that looks a little like a Kaiser but more like a Stude to me.

Doesn't that Saab 93 look cute with whitewalls? :shades:

Got on my newer computer and blew the pic up and now see quad parking lamps making it a Chevy. The other car is still a hard call to me. It has a rather flat windshield like a Studebaker, but the headlight pod looks like a Kaiser?
  • lostwrench1lostwrench1 Member Posts: 1,165
I'll eliminate the Kaiser because of the lack of the widow's peak in the top center of the windshield.
I'll go with a Studebaker police car with either a police light or siren bolted to the bumper below the headlight.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Makes sense to me. I forgot all about those add on siren things in the early 50's.

What's funny is that some built-ins are still 6.1", while my portable is a full 7" size. :shades:

Built-ins go as big as about 10" though, I believe. Pretty awesome, and those tend to be HD quality too. Just be ready to pay a small fortune for it.

Now, now---a two stroke Saab Monte Carlo is a very fun car and a former rally champion.

    Bizzarrini something
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Yup, it's a 1966 Bizzarrini Strada featuring Corvette power and aluminum bodywork. When Giotto Bizzarrini was at Ferrari he was the main designer of the 250 GTO, perhaps Ferrari's most legendary car.

1967 Plymouth Barracuda. Back in the day a good friend had one - green convertible 318 V-8, 4-speed. Very fun car.....

Looks like a Jeep, a late 40's Chevrolet Fleetmaster woody Station Wagon, and a Maverick?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,781
I can tell you its a Jeep CJ5. Exact year would be impossible since the style hardly ever changed. Somewhere between '76 and '83.

    '11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
The Chevy Fleetmaster is a '48 and the Maverick is a 1970. IMCDB agrees that the Jeep is a CJ5 but it looks to me more like a newer YJ (AKA Wrangler).

Looks like a low-end 1961 Pontiac Tempest wearing wheelcovers from a 1970 Catalina or Bonneville.
  • lostwrench1lostwrench1 Member Posts: 1,165
Well, it's a Tempest but which year. If it had the Tempest badge on the front fender it would be a 61. The side windows indicate it could also be a 62. I wish we could see the grille.
I'll put my chips on 61.

Those cars, had a LOT of torque. That's 1/2 a Pontiac V8 in there, so a big 4 indeed.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
They had some kind of funky tranny and driveline IIRC. I seem to remember the greasers in school calling them something like rope drivers.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Yup, it's a '61 Pontiac Tempest with the "rope drive" set up which IIRC was a flexible drive shaft attached at one end to the motor and at the other end to a rear-mounted trans-axle, in this case a three-speed on the floor.

    Ferrari 308 GTB, I'll guess 1979.

Next to it is a Honda Prelude of the same vintage, maybe early 80s.

I see a Bettle Cabrio in the distance, too.

When that car first came out one of the car mags reviewed it. I sent a letter in saying how could they charge that much and have Ford Taurus switch gear (hvac knobs, etc) They published it with the heading "Qvale is job one"

Mangusta - sounds a bit like sellers of langosta trying to pass them off as lobsters, when they are really more of a crawdad.

    Love my Cervix

That's a Renault powered Lotus Breadvan (aka europa) with an interesting anti-theft device---no one over 5' 7" could possibly drive one.

The Europa always struck me as one of those answers to the question nobody asked.
