You're welcome. I bought it through the dealer. It was $799 installed. The dealer dropped the price on everything I added on but this. It's neat. You go on the internet and can locate your vehicle at any time. If it get's stolen the police can track it.
Best of all, it's transferable. So you can move it to your next car.
Maybe you could order it through the company and get your dealer to install it?
I concur with the other posting here. The immobilizer "chip" is a passive security device that supposedly does not allow starting (or running) the vehicle unless the chip matches what is pre-programmed into the vehicle. It is not impossible to get around.
The "alarm" that comes with the car is very basic and covers opening of doors only without the key. The upgraded alarm can also detect glass breakage and jacking (rough movement) of the vehicle.
Alarms are good for visual and auditory deterrent, but won't work a lick if no one is there to pay attention to it (or to stop the offenders). In most cases, they are sufficient to stop most amateurs.
I, for one, like LoJack or Mobile Guardian as it is completely transparent and the police have a much better chance of recovering your car than with almost any alarm.
I used to be in the auto security business, so I do have some practical experience with this.
I have the same problem with the third row seat belts when disconnected. Anyone have a solution? Also, as others have mentioned there is some sort of rattle in the door columns, probably the seat belts. Any solutions for this problem also?
Does anyone know if the nav in 06 pilot handle blue tooth cell phone as well? I am shopping for a small to mid-size suv (or glup! even minivan) that have a good nav and blue tooth. So far RX seems to be the only one that have it..Any other?
I just got a new '06 EXL AWD/NAV. I passed on the cross bars for the roof rails, as the dealer wanted $288.00(installed). I knew that I could get them for about $150.00 with freight on the web. Now I am looking at the install instructions and am not sure. I'm not a klutz, but I'm also no mechanic. Has anyone taken on this project and if so,just how difficult is it. I can just see myself gouging the paint on the roof with a screwdriver! Advice please.
Acura MDX and Infinity Q56 does have this feature. Or you can install aftermarket bluetooth adapter in a much cheper car (Parrot). I was itching to get MDX with bluetooth, but in all other features pilot is as good, if not better. Bluetooth is not worse several thousands difference
Finally got my car back after 2 days. They put foam tape in the B pillar somewhere and the rattle seems to be gone. We'll see if it stays that way though.
thanks for the reply. Agreed that bluetooth does not worth the extra dollars by itself. We own RX300 before and really like it (the ligther weight 38xx lb vs 44xx lb for Pilot/MDX also help the fuel economy and handling as well). So we keep RX on our list. But for 30000 range, pilot is really a good value. Will see how the new RAV4 shape up (no nav is a killer though)
I hope I understand the seat belt question here, as I will provide what I believe is the answer. Take a look and you will notice that there is a plastic "stopper" piece inserted into the belt material that stops the buckle from moving past it. Unfortunately, if it is placed in the wrong location, it prematurely stops the buckle and prevents the belt material from winding up all the way on the spool and therefore you have the excess belt material flapping around as was described. This "stopper" needs to be removed and relocated to the correct position. I do not know if this will require a new part or whether the original part can be re-used again. But, you need to make sure the dealer does this service, even though it is minor, because any tampering with the seat belt should always be the dealer's responsibility. If there was ever any malfunction associated with it, you would not want to be blamed in any way. Anyway, hope that answers the seat belt question.
For the satellite radio units WITH nav, Honda has confirmed with me that there is an accessory called the "Honda Music Link". It consists of the "Music Link Adapter Kit" (part # 08A28-1H1-100) which is the actual electronics and wiring of the accessory, and also the "Attachment Kit" (part # 08A28-1H1-800) which is a small kit to attach the music link "adapter unit" to the inside of the glove box. This adapter sits between the main radio unit and a "music link harness", which provides the final connection to the external device that is being connected to the main radio. Basically, this final harness is just the cable to hook up your device. Finally, the bulletin shows an additional "2-port bus cable" (part # 08A31-0F1-000), but it is not very clear as to what makes this necessary, if at all. There is a publication from Honda on this, and additionally, there is a preliminary new Honda MP3 player that has a publication from Honda. The installation diagram seems a bit too complicated to just hook up an external device, but hopefully the dealers will become familiar with this service shortly. I'll keep everyone posted on any more updates, but those are actual part numbers that Honda Corporate provided me, folks!
I just got a 2006 EXL three weeks ago and I called the dealership and they said there is no break-in period. I am used to the 750-1500 mile break in period for a new cars and I am concerned they are mistaken, although I have no read anything in the manuals so far siding with either Point of view.
The driver's side 3rd row shoulder belt in my 06' EX retracts and clips to itself perfectly, while the passenger side does seem to have the stopping pins in the wrong place, preventing it from retracting far enough to be snug when disconnected. I was trying to figure out a reason why that might happen, but couldn't...
Check your owner's manual again. Go to the glossary in the back and there is a listing for "break in". Basically they are telling you to take it easy for the first 600 miles.
Thanks for the update. It's good to hear that they were able to find the source of the rattle and eliminate it. I'll head to my dealer and ask them to apply the same foam tape fix in the B pillar.
Been looking around and was wondering what the best price to pay for a 06 honda pilot exl with nav..? I live in Massachusetts and willing to drive to get the best price.. and wondering what was included in the price that you paid... Also did you get any extras? really looking to buy soon...please someone HELP!!! :confuse:
As far as I know, the "music link" hardware I described in detail in an earlier post has not been officially marketed to work with the iPod as of this moment. Incorporating the iPod makes huge sense, but be aware, Honda has plans to market their "own" mp3 player. Be patient just a little longer, as I would expect Honda will clarify the "compatibility" of different devices in the very near future.
I don't think it is on the '06 Pilot (I called Honda and they said 'no').... even with the Nav. I too had a '02 Passat that had the gas mileage indicator which was a great feature.... My in-laws '01 MDX has this feature... i just can't believe that the Nav versions of the Pilot don't have this feature...
I test drove an '06 Pilot EX-L with NAV today. I was particularly interested in the NAV for the included backup camera.
I like to drive with the lights on and when I did so on my test drive, the NAV became very dim. Even with the lights off, I would have liked it to be brighter.
Is there any way to adjust the brightness on the 06 Pilot NAV and anyway to keep it bright even with the headlights are on?
I've had mine for a week and haven't really played with everything. I do know that there are controls to adjust brightness, contrast, etc. I think that you can adjust it to be in "day" mode all the time and it would not dim with the lights on, but I am not sure on this point. You may be able to get an answer on the Honda website.
We just bought an '06 EXL AWD w/ Nav this week. I sat down last night with the Nav manual and read through most of it. (I highly recommend you read through this booklet now that I know the significant wealth of information it contains.) It includes instructions for switching day/night mode. Headlights on automatically swithch it to night, but there is a voice command for day mode.
You can override the night mode in the settings area so that it will stay in day mode with the lights on. You'd just have to remember to change it back at night or the screen could become a distraction.
I do not have any fibration. I drove 85 for about 3 hours without any problems. YOu price is great. I just paid 450 over invoice a week ago plus ~200 for document fee
In addition, if night mode is too dark, there are settings that can be used to "brighten" and change the colors of the night mode with the screen adjustments. Also, if it is still desireable to use the day mode at night, but the brightness is a concern, then it is also possible to reduce the day mode brighness with the screen settings. Lots of possibilities! Gotta love that nav! Good luck.
Hi! I have a question. I currently have a Highlander and I am considering to trade it in for a 06 Pilot EX AWD. I would just like to know, "How noisy is the pilot?" How much road noise is there at speeds from 55-65, and engine noise. Some people say that the 05 model is noisy, so I would like to know if the 06 model is quieter. I would really appreciate any responses to this question. Thanks a lot.
I just bought a Pilot EX (4WD) on Friday and I don't think there's alot of road noise at all. I think it's a great vehicle overall and well worth the money.
I do not work in a dealership. As the subject line suggested.....The offer was FROM the dealer! I think you can certainly make your offer to any dealers you want. Just like any price negotiation process. :lemon: Original Message................. I have been reading the postings and notice many are complaining about the vibration problem when driving around 75mph.
Does the problem also on the 06' ?
I am going to get an 06' EX-L w/ Nav next week but after reading the messages..... I am not sure if that is a good idea.
I have an offer $100 over invoice + $550 + $75 doc fee
Having thought about buying both, I do think the Highlander is quieter. That being said, the '06 Pilot is not noisy, just not as quiet. There is some typical Honda road noise, but I think it's better than the '05. I drove both, but not back to back so it's hard to make a comparison. There are things you can do to make the Pilot quieter, it just costs money.
I just drove an 06 pilot 2wd EX and noticed vibration or rattle, whatever you want to call it somewhere on or near the driver side window. Otherwise loved the car. I would have them address it at the dealer before I finalize an offer.
You might have the settings for your night navi the same as the day ones. Check the color settings for navi. You can change them to whatever you want. See what the map colors are. I mean there are endless possibilities.

I guess this is the modern version of that old buick!

I guess I would not upgrade to advanced honda security, but will save money for Mobile Guardian
Thanks again for the good advice
I fold down the 3rd row seat and un-attatched the seat-belt...
the problem is right side 3rd row seat belt is longer than left side seat belt causing
touch the plastic part when car is shaken while driving sometimes....
is there other part to attach the belt other than 3rd row seat? to secure that?
Finally got my car back after 2 days. They put foam tape in the B pillar somewhere and the rattle seems to be gone. We'll see if it stays that way though.
Good luck with your rattles!

Check here for instructions:

Good luck!
If so, may be it's defect then....please let me know...
Please let me know of your experiences, etc.
Thanks.
The right side 3rd row seat belt is slightly longer than left side seat belt because they need more length to buckle up....
To avoid hitting the plastic part while you drive, if you look carefully, there are plastic clip (sort of) on the belt...
Simply bend your belt and clip it with it.....it was quite simple
