Invoice is $35,877 - $2,500 = $33,377. So they are selling $523 above invoice unless they have added some dealer options that are highly profitable. Regarding invoice price I was told by an Acura dealer that none of the online invoice sites (Edmunds, etc) have the correct invoice price because Acura charges all dealers a $200 advertising fee that is not reflected on the sites. Don't know how accurate that is. Also depending on how long the car has been on the site there is the dealer holdback and of course the dealer doc fee, which a good percentage of is profit.

Also if you have good credit there is no such thing as minimum drive offs. You can roll everything into the lease, or just make the first months payment.

FYI the dealer I have been working with in the Phoenix area will sell any TL type at invoice - $2,500.

the lease deal on teh new TL seems okay, but nothing out of this world.

I have seen a few used 2007 Type S cars on local car lots that I assume were taken in trade - meaning the dealer raped the seller and will probably unload the car for close to wholesale. One was a WDP TL-S with something like 8000 miles on it..it was practically brand new and they were asking 30k. I'm sure they woudl unload it for 25-26k.

almost new for 26k, still under factory warranty.... it's not a certified car from Acura - but they still have to honor the warranty - so if the car had probelms - they ahve to fix it. i guess the only issue could be if the car was royally abused or somehow massively crashed and put back together - you might never know...

buying new / leasing has the nice aspect of getting it new - you know it's not been trashed - and it will drive perfect from day one.

the deal they are offering is basically 500/month.

honestly, i was considering buying a used BMW - i have seen BMW 550is in the high 30s, that if I financed over 72 months - wouldbe about the same monthly payment... and these are 06 models certified from a dealer.

    decisions...

Just landed a deal in PA for an 08 TL w/ Navi.

    36 Mo. lease
    12k miles annual
Only put down 1st month's payment of $450 at inception
Honda Financial wavied last 3 payments (Honda Promo) on my current 06 TL & since I was under miles they also will roll them into the new lease. My 06 TL cost me $540 per month.

With 08 Accord EXL-V6 with navi leasing for $420-430 how could you go wrong.

    23109vc,

On 05/31/08 I have leased a TL-S for $1000 drive off with $480 tax inclusive (OC tax) respectively. I actual deal was $475 tax inclusive but I had some credit issues so I ended up paying $5 difference.
  • 23109vc23109vc Member Posts: 218
that's a pretty good deal. what is your tax rate? OC - you mean Orange County? what is tax there? My area it is 7.75%.

do you recall the actual price you paid? since your deal was in May - I'm wondering if there were different incentives, or if the MF / residual was slightly different making the lease numbers better - or could I get that same deal today?

looking at YOUR deal and what I was offered - I think we are only off by about $33/month. not huge...but enough that's about $1200 total.

anyone here think I can get his deal NOW or have incentives/MF/residuals changes such that the lease deals available in May ar eno longer possible?

    anyone know that one?

    Base 2008 TL
12k miles per year, 36 months
2400 OOP- taxes, title etc.(NY)- 1st month payment
    360 a month

    selling price 28979

What do you guys think, is this worth pulling the trigger?
  • maltbiemaltbie Member Posts: 31
I was offered the same deal in upstate NY by two different dealers in response to my e-mail inquiry via Edwards. They both have large inventories and said I can have any color combination I want. The selling price is $2750 under invoice. Both dealers said the offer was only good until Thursday because the leasing incentives will change on August 1.

This month there is .0133 money factor (3.19%) and $2500 manufacturer to dealer cash. The residual is 53%, which is crappy, but could go lower.

What are the odds that the lease incentives will be less favorable in August? Shoudn't they get even better in August, or at least stay the same, to clear out the 08 TLs to make way for the 09s?

The lease on my Accord does not expire until October, so I have time to wait. Should I pull the trigger now or wait?

I just leased a 2008 TL with Navigation at Sierra Acura in Alhambra, CA

    MSRP: $36,940
    Cap Cost: $29k
    MF: .00133
    Residual: 50% (36 month / 15k/year)
Total cash due at signing; $1300 (minimum drive offs)
    Payment BEFORE tax = $399
  • purchasingsoonpurchasingsoon Member Posts: 74
that seems like a great / very fair deal. did you have to push hard to get that or no? nice work. the residual is terrible but with the cap cost so low (and decent rate), thats a very nice payment!!
  • 23109vc23109vc Member Posts: 218
so if you were able to get a TL w/ nav for $29k, and MSRP of a Type S is only $2k more, does this mean I shoudl have no problem finding a Type 'S and getting it for $31k?

lowest i've seen anyone offer a Type S is 33k and change...

if i could get them to shave off that last $2000 that would drop my montly lease payment by almost $50!!!

    Hi Car Man

I am considering a number of different cars to lease. I already sent you one about the Accord Coupe as one possibility. Other cars I am interested in are the new 2009 Acura TL all wheel drive, the 2008 or 2009 Mercedes C Class 4matic and the 2009 Audi A4 quattro. Do you have the residuals and money factors for these cars? I am interested in 15K miles per year for 36 months in NY(Westchester county).

Thanks again for your input. You are a great help to me when I negotiate with the dealers. I also subscribe to Automotive News to see what the mfg are giving back the dealers to move cars.
  • bvdj84bvdj84 Member Posts: 1,724
Well, you will not be able to get even near the deal on an 09 as you can on an 08 TL. This is the last call to obtain a TL literally about the same price as a regular loaded Accord. Unless the price difference does not matter to you, I would try to get an 08 model if you can, as the 09's, new model or not will have higher rates, and they are going to be less likely to work on price, as they have more time for someone else to buy it at their price.

Look at the TSX, which is brand new, its lease rates are pretty stiff.
  • purchasingsoonpurchasingsoon Member Posts: 74
i heard the initial deals on the '09 TL will be something like $600 off of the sticker price at best. I bet the intial shipments of '09 A4's will be sold at or very closer to MSRP as well. i'd head over to each individual forum (mercedes, honda) to find the residuals and money factors, they aren't that tough to find as they get posted all the time. good luck!

Just signed on a 2008 Base TL, Pick up on Thursday:
    Westchester, NY

    Term 36 mo, 12k miles
    $339 per month
    Cap Cost\Purchase Price: 29,155
    Resid: 18,253.20
3k OOP - Covers Tax, Title, DMV&New Plates, Acq Fee,1st Mo Payment and ~178.00 towards a Cap reduction. So adjusted Cap Cost would be ~29000.00

I don't know where you guys are getting 08 w/NAV for 29k, I couldn't get any local dealerships to come even close to that.

Hey rxke. Here is a comparison of the current 36 month / 15k lease programs for the cars that you are interested in:

2008 Acura TL (Acura has not published a lease program for the '09 model yet)
    .00133 / 51%

2009 Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic (there is no lease support on the '08 model)
    .00255 / 56%.

2009 Audi A4 2.0T SE Sedan quattro (the '09 A4 lease program is not out yet)
    .00142 / 50%

Anyone get a navi 36 month lease for under 370 before taxes? Based on the rates and the 29.1k price it should be like 325 but haven't seen any reports of that low.

Has anyone leased a base TL with Nav in NJ recently? Looking for 36 months and 15k miles per year. Want to roll sales tax, MV fees and bank fee into the monthly payment.

    Thanks.
  • 23109vc23109vc Member Posts: 218
given the low residual on the 08 - does anyone think it would actually be cheaper to lease an 09? i wonder if the 09s will jsut cost more ... making the leases cheaper on08s...even with the low residuals...

    anyone?

Quoted a TL Type S for what seems like a great price

    $32,300 Cap Cost
    MF .00133
    10k miles, 52% residual. $20272

36 month lease. total price per month, INCLUDING 7.75% CA sales tax
    $427

not bad for a type S????

Great deal!!!! How much out of pocket/ due at signing? I'm looking for TL-S. This is the lowest payment I've seen.
    Thanks

opps.. sorry. forgot to mention. that is with $1500 out of pocket.

overall I think I have worked a great deal. I have one dealer willing to sell the car at $32,500 and another is at $32,300. both have the same color combo I want.

no one has offered to go below that.

Moot point as the paperwork is already signed, but I picked up a new TL w/ Nav this afternoon in Los Angeles. 3 years, 12k miles per year.

    Cap cost $31,333.29
Cap cost reduction (out of my pocket) - $1,216.86
    Adj cap cost - $30,116.43
    Residual - $19,208.80
    Base monthly - $368.59
    Monthly with tax (8.25%) - $399.00

Total drive off was $2,000. ($1,216.86 cap cost reduction, $399 first month, tax on cap cost and registration)

May have done better, but I feel like I got a good deal. Hell of a loaded car for $400 a month!

anyone with any good info or educated guesses as to what will happen to the lease incentives over the next few weeks? get better, stay same, get worse?

Honda had a killer deal on the s2000 that they killed. no more lease support.

when does the existing lease incentive run out on the TL? and when it does run out - what will Acura do to replace it? anything or kill the incentives?
  • seekacurainfoseekacurainfo Member Posts: 13
I am considering leasing an Acura TL and was wondering if anyone could provide me with current leasing incentives that I can take advantage of. I plan to test drive the car this weekend and I am in the Boston area, does anyone know of any deals i should be looking for what with the 09 scheduled to be out soon?

    Thanks
  • rjorge3rjorge3 Member Posts: 144
that is great, that is the same type of lease that I am looking for: 36 months/ 10k miles. I am looking at the same type of car in New Jersey. Can you tell me more details about your car/ options, extras you purchased, etc i want to see if I can have pmts in the very lows $400s. but I want to compare apples to apples. Was it auto or manual? I am looking for an auto. The lowest I've been quoted is $485 with close to $2,000 of drive off cost.
  • seekacurainfoseekacurainfo Member Posts: 13
I just got an online quote by an acura dealership in MA, just outside Boston, is this a good deal?

36 month x 10k miles a year, no cash cap reduction.
    TL $384
    TL navi $423
    TL-S $460

Tax is included in the payments
  • jrubelljrubell Member Posts: 9
i've been looking in socal for a 36 month x 12k miles a year lease with 0 down. only dmv fees (300-400) and 1st month payment at drive off. we have 8% tax in the monthly payments and no up front taxes. based on that, i've found the following payments, tax included and think they're pretty good deals.

    TL $380
    TL navi $399
  • seekacurainfoseekacurainfo Member Posts: 13
Seems like you are finding better deals. The deal I was quoted was for 10k miles and MA state tax is 5%. They also told me I could lease a base TL from any car in stock this weekend for 265 a month for 36 month 10k miles per year and a 10% cap cost reduction.
  • rjorge3rjorge3 Member Posts: 144
Hi carman, do you happen to have the residal and money factor for the month of August. 36 months 10k and 12k per year. Thanks. Also any lease rebates that you might be aware that Acura is offering on the TL-S will be great as well.

I was offered $485 per month, but I think that is way to hight for an outgoing model (36 months, 10k per year, no cap cost reduc).
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Greetings to the appropriately named seekacurainfo. Acura is currently providing a $1,000 cash incentive on leases of the 2008 TL. This cash may be combined with Honda Finance's special buy rate lease money factor of .00133.

Hi rjorge3. Here's the information that you're looking for. Honda Finance's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2008 Acura TL-S with 12,000 miles per year are .00133 and 51%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its "Super Preferred" credit tier and pay a security deposit at lease signing. The residual value for a lease with only 10,000 miles per year is 1% higher.

When negotiating your lease on this car, make sure to take advantage of the $1,000 cash incentive that is currently available on it. This cash will enable you to negotiate an attractive capitalized cost.

Thanks car man as always...one last question, that $1,000 is on top of another $2,500 lease promotion that I think I've hear some poster indicate that Acura give to the dealers? Also, should i negociate, invoice minus $1,000? I've found a dealer that is willing to calculat the lease pmt based on a $33,082 cap cost, but if I can get another $1,000 on top of that, it would be a sweet deal

    Thanks again,

    R
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
You're very welcome, rjorge3. Unfortunately, I believe that the $2,500 cannot be combined with Honda Finance's special lease program, only the $1,000 incentive can.

Have anyone here used the services of Leasetrader to assume a lease? I just found the exact car that I am looking to lease: 08, Type-S auto, the pmt is $413.80 with 30 months left and an average of 949 miles per moths that I can drive. I think that its a great deal since the lowest I have been quoted is $469.99 for the same car and i would have to pay at least $2k to drive it off the lot (no downpayment, just fees and first month pmt)

    Months Remaining:
    30 months

    Advertised Payment:
    $413.80 p/month

    Actual Miles:
    6,700 miles

    Total Miles Allowed:
    36,006

    Miles Remaining:
    29,306

    Available Miles:
    977 miles p/month

Thank you all for providing your details; it was EXTREMELY helpful.

    I got base TL:
    Sales Price: $27,850
    12k lease = 53% residual, .00133 money factor
    $880 up-front, incl $250 down & 1st payment

Something like $345+tax, I think, before my trade-in.

    Hey all,

Sorry for the error in my last message, I meant to ask what the lease deals and incentives are for the month of September.

Cash incentives, money factor and residual values specifically.

    Thanks again
  • rjorge3rjorge3 Member Posts: 144
So, I received an offer today, but I still think that there will be more on the table with September being the release month for the 09 TL. I just got an email offering a cap cost to lease the car for $32,650. That will put my monthly pmts at $443.87 with only the DMV+Bank fee+Doc fee+first month (250+565+200+443.87)=$1,458.87 total drive off. 36 months, 10k no money down.

If I can get it for $425, I'll pull the trigger. Although I need a car and I really like the TL, I can wait since I still have my "beat around" wheels. Or should I just bite the bullet and go for it? It just bothers me because it will be an outdated model and they still are not discounting the car as aggresive as I believe they should.

    Anyways, just venting :confuse:
  • glennjrglennjr Member Posts: 37
You are right about them not being aggressive. I think the money factor is still to high. On a buy they are offering 0.9% for 36 months but if you do the math (money factor x 2400) on the lease it works out to be close to 3.2%. Have the new rates for September been announced yet? I have 4 lease payments left on my Ridgeline and it is between the TL and the 09 Maxima. Good luck the Type S is awesome. What are your thoughts on using premium fuel?
  • rjorge3rjorge3 Member Posts: 144
I've saw someone in acurazine that got the S yesterday for $31,999. That was an amazing price if it is true, which I dont think that someone would just lie about the price they paid. I also second your thought about the money factor, 3.2% when they are offering 0,9% on the 3 year note makes no sense. That is one more reason why I am holding out to pull the trigger on my purchase.

As per premium gas is concern, it would not affect me much, since I only drive 10k per year max (I have a commuter car as well that takes regular-1994 celica), and the price of gas by me (central NJ), is pretty cheap $3.359 Reg; $3.799 Premium, so in a year, the difference between using reg and prem would mean a savings of only $163 per year which is not worthy.

Besides, when I was leasing my 05 Audi A4, I tried regular (even though manual indicated premium only), and the performance was very noticeable. so I just swichted back to premium.

Well, I'll sit tight and see what the end of this month will have in terms of incentives/prices etc.

I am trying to negotiate my first lease and think I have a good handle on what I should be aiming for but could still use some advice.

I am looking at a TL w/ Navi.

Dealer is offering $30,990 price with a 51% residual.

We haven't discussed money factor yet or down payment.

What should I be pushing for on the terms?

    I'm in Illinois.

Thanks guys... The previous messages have been real helpful and hope someone can shed a little more light.

Hi seekacurainfo. In September, Acura is providing $3,500 dealer cash on the 2008 TL. It is not providing any lease support on it this month though. The bad news is that this means that anyone who wants to lease an '08 TL through Honda Finance will have to use its standard lease program. The good news is that the dealer cash is compatible with leases.

You never mentioned how long you want to lease for or what mileage allowance you need, so for now I will assume that you are interested in a 36 month lease with 15,000 miles per year. Let me know if you want something different. Honda Finance's current buy rate lease money factor and residual values for a 36 month lease of a 2008 Acura TL without navigation with 15,000 miles per year are .00270 and 50%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its "Super Preferred" credit tier and pay a security deposit at lease signing.

Hi glennjr. Nissan has published its September incentives program. It is no longer providing lease support on the 2008 TL. Consumers who want to lease one through Honda Finance have to use its standard lease program. Its current buy rate standard lease money factor is .00270 for 36 months for consumers who qualify for its "Super Preferred" credit tier and pay a security deposit at lease signing. This factor is equivalent to an interest rate of just under 6.5%, which obviously is not nearly as attractive as the 0.9% to 2.9% special financing rates that Acura is providing on this model right now. At least Acura has a solid $3,500 dealer cash on this model this month. This cash can be used on Honda Finance leases.

Greetings 1stacura. Since this will be your first lease, you definitely should check out the following informative articles that are available here at Edmunds.com prior to visiting any dealers: 10 Steps to Leasing a New Car and Calculate Your Own Lease Payment.

The best way to get a good deal on a lease of a TL is to negotiate as low a selling price as possible on the unit that you want. Acura is currently providing $3,500 dealer cash on this car, so if I was in the market for one right now I personally would shoot for a selling price of $3,000 or so below invoice.

Once you have agreed to a selling price that you are comfortable with, have the dealer calculate your car's monthly payment using its buy rate lease money factor. Honda Finance's money factors vary by term. Its current buy rate for a 36 month lease of this car is .00270 for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier.

Car_man, I would be looking at a 36 month lease at 12k miles/year for a TL with Navigation. The dealer has indicated that he was was going to use a 51% residual and has offered a price of $30,990 -- leaving a little more room for me to negotiate down from the invoice.

However, reading in between the lines of your posts, it seems like the lack of lease support from Honda Finance may mean that going for a lease is a bad move right now (even with the $3500 dealer cash). Is that a fair assumption? Is it possible Honda would put the 2008 TL back on lease support or have I missed the window for getting a solid lease on the 2008?

Thanks for the links to the lease tip pages.

As others have said, your advice is really helpful and much appreciated.
  • rjorge3rjorge3 Member Posts: 144
Is it me, or Acura is crazy. going from 0.00133 (3.2%) to almost double 0.00270 (6.5%) is insane. And that is for their "tier 1" customer. Imagine how much they would charge someone in their tier4 :) Oh, well even with the price support of $3,500 my lease calculation ballooned to $510 from $430. So I will be looking somewhere else.

    Good luck to yo'all
