Hi maplefl. Here's the information that you're looking for. VW Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2009 Jetta Sportwagon SEL with 12,000 miles per year are .00139 and 543%, respectively (wow that's a pretty bad resid).

The numbers for an otherwise identical lease of an '09 Jetta Sportwagon TDI are .00314 and 51% (wow that's a pretty bad money factor).

If you were to lease with only 10,000 miles per year, these residual values would be 1% higher.

Neither of these lease programs strike me as being very attractive. If you could take the money factor from the SEL and the residual from the TDI, you'd be in business...alas that is not possible.

Hey ausdtech. The March numbers are different. VW Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 24 month lease of a 2009 Jetta Wolfsburg with 10,000 miles per year are .00168 and 65%.

hey carman, by how much does the residual change for a wolfsburg lease at 36mo, 12k a year? I assume the MF is the same... thanks!
  • exsaabguyexsaabguy Member Posts: 9
I'm looking at such a lease too within the next few days... Also need to know that info.

    Thanks!

    Same question.
    Same situation.

    Interested in a 36 month, 12k miles, 2009 Wolfsburg.
I'd like to know the MF and Residual.

I was told 0.00168 and 57% and I'd like to know if they're being up front with the numbers or not.

    Thank you, Car Man !

I just found out that the Wolfsburg editions at my dealer are demos...each with about 5500 miles on them.

Not sure if I want that. I may go for an SE instead.
  • exsaabguyexsaabguy Member Posts: 9
I'm probably off to test drive a Jetta today, but I probably won't take delivery of a car until mid-April. (My current lease goes to May 7th.)

Anyone have any info on VW lease rates for April? Specifically, Jetta SEL for 36 months and 12K miles per year.

    Thanks.

I just picked up my new Jetta SE. The lease contract through Volkswagen Credit all lined up. But, I got suprised by the turn in fee: $350, waived if I buy a new vehicle. Are these turn in fees typical? Do (many) other companies charge a turn in fee?
  • exsaabguyexsaabguy Member Posts: 9
I had that happen with one of my previous Saab's.
  • tikkihotdogtikkihotdog Member Posts: 6
The turn fee is called a disposition fee. This is fee all captive finance (BMW Financial, Honda Finance, etc) companies charge on leases. This is a typical fee and varies from finance company to finance company. The disposition fee will be waived under the VCI lease loyalty program when you turn in this lease and get a new VCI lease in the future. Enjoy your new VW lease. das auto
  • tikkihotdogtikkihotdog Member Posts: 6
All current sub-vented VCI lease programs expire on 3/31/2009. Volkswagen of America and VCI will have all new programs on 4/1/2009.

I'd like to know if anyone has the MF and residual for March for a Jetta SE...I'm considering leasing a Jetta SE and negotiated the following deal via email. The dealership did not give me the MF or residual even though I asked for it twice.

    36 month lease, 15k mi/yr
Base model with Ipod adapter add-on only.
    MSRP: $22,094
Sale Price: $19,943 ($1,000 below invoice)
    Up Front Fees: $1,000
I told them I only wanted to put down the inception fees and nothing more. Per the dealership, this is for "up front fees". Still waiting for clarification whether taxes are included in this monthly payment (I live in NJ). Does the $1,000 seem a bit high for inception fees?

    Monthly payment: $299.

I only have one more day before this deal changes. I don't know if it will change for the better or not? I've heard that the last few days of the month, dealerships are always willing to negotiate a bit more to move their inventory.

Thanks in advance for your help!
  • exsaabguyexsaabguy Member Posts: 9
    It seems okay.

From the info on this forum, the MF is .00101 and the residual is 54%. Using the figures you posted, I come up with a monthly payment of $307.

I'm picking up a Jetta SE also today- the price is higher since it has auto trans, sunroof, and couple of other items. I'm putting $2500 down - which includes all upfront fees, licensing, etc. and the monthly payment is $249.00.

I'm sure I could have haggled a somewhat better deal but even if they dropped another few hundred off the selling price, the lease payment only would drop a few dollars.

I just picked up my Jetta SE yesterday. Mine came with auto transmission, the ipod adapter, and matt kit. My negotiated sales price was $19,740. (Dealership gave me an offer similar to yours, but ultimately agreed to reduce it by $200. You might go back to them and ask if they are willing to take any further reductions.) The MF and residual were .00101 and 54%, respectively. I put down $1,000 to cover the acquisition fee, etc., which seems pretty standard. My monthly payment is $253 (not incl sales tax).

    Good luck!

I would appreciate the MF and residual for an SE for 15K miles and 36 months as soon as anyone knows the April deals. Thanks!!
  • i_miss_bostoni_miss_boston Member Posts: 3
I live in the Los Angeles area and am likely going to enter into a lease agreement today or tomorrow for a 2009 Jetta Wolfsburg (automatic transmission). The cost of the car listed online at the dealer's website is about $23,524, which seems higher than what various online reports suggest.

I do not want to pay any money down, at all, and do not have a trade-in. Multiple dealerships in LA have the Wolfsburg I want, although I would prefer to work with one salesman and not pit them against each other. I will be looking for a 3-year lease at 12,000 miles per year.

Based on whatever the new April MF and residual rates are (which I'll ask for but don't currently know), what do you think is the best monthly payment I can negotiate in this economy? $330 before taxes?

Thank you all very much for your help. I appreciate it.
  • evoicevoic Member Posts: 22
I'm basically looking at the exact same vehicle as you right now.
Same sticker price, automatic, 12k, 3yr, zero drive-off, etc, etc...... and without going into TOO much detail, I can tell you that you should be able to get $330 after taxes without breaking a sweat.

I'm looking for April lease info (MF & residual) on the SEL Jetta Sport Wagon - 15k & 36 months. Do options impact the residual at all?

If so I'm looking at adding:
    3FU Power Panoramic Sunroof
    4X4 Rear Side Airbags
    JWP Jetta SportWagen Protection Kit
    JWG Splash Guards

    Thank you so much!

Car man...is there a website we can look at to get current MF and residual rates?
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
You're right, z2adambomb. A change in mileage allowance has no impact upon vehicles' money factors. VW Credit's 12,000 mile per year residual values are 2% higher than its 15,000 mile per year resids.

Hi girlienoir. I am not aware of any resource that provides accurate information on banks' current lease programs to consumers. Having said this, I would be happy to give you an idea of what the lease program is like on the vehicle that you are interested in right now if you let me know what trim level, term, and mileage allowance you're interested in.

I would be very careful re leasing an automobile in this market. I leased a Mazda 5 from Scott Mazda in Allentown PA. Turned it in at EOL and have been billed in excess of 1,500.00 for two wheels due to what they refer to as gouges.

If they use a company called DataScan to inspect their autos you are screwed. What ever savings you may incur on the front end will be more than made up for at the end. These guys are horrid. Be forewarned.

They just want to move the crap and will say anything to get it out the door. I leased for years with never an issue. Now they can not make money on leases and will take their pound of flesh at the end. Especially in my opinion if you complain at all during the lease period.

The dealership I leased from provided no support at all. They just do not care.

interested in possibly buying or leasing a '09 jetta S or Altima. what is best deals you have found and is it better to buy if I paid it in full. Seems like I wouln't want to be out of warranty on a german car. ?
  • bvdj84bvdj84 Member Posts: 1,724
New 2009 VW's are covered by a maintenance free warranty for 36k. You will not want to pay for the lease in full as you will be out money if you want out or total the car. The Altima and Jetta 2 different animals. Drive what you want, but both drive differently. The Jetta is more than likely a more fun car to drive. The Altima, geared more for a nice family ride. You can lease a nice Jetta SE for an attractive lease. The SE has a good package, roof, leather, htd seats.

Opt for what you want in a car first, then work down from there. You will get more bang for your buck.
  • z2adambombz2adambomb Member Posts: 18
I tested both the jetta (and rabbit/gti/gli) and the altima recently. I must say I was impressed with the 6 speed manual transmission in the altima. It's a rare find, but performed well, though the shifter is a bit tall. It's a much more fun car to drive in a manual and you can really feel the flexibility and power of their 2.5L engine. BVD is right, they're two different cars though. The jetta/rabbit frame is smaller and more agile - you can feel this when driving. The suspension is more firmly dampened in the jetta, so it will feel more responsive in cornering. The altima is a LOT bigger. both ride smoothly on the highway, but in spirited driving there's no question the VW's feel more responsive and connected - they're more of a drivers car. I'd highly recommend driving them back to back... you should have a gut feeling pretty quickly since they're quite different. If you were comparing an accord to the altima, that may be harder. I was considering the altima because I'm currently leasing a nissan and they don't make a smaller yet nicely equipped, fun to drive car like the GTI or GLI. As for covered maintenance on the VW's... that's the only reason I considered one. They don't exactly have a great record for reliability and a 36 month lease, 12kmi a year is perfectly covered by the maintenance program.
FYI: if you like the manuals, you cannot get an altima with a 6 speed manual and any option packages unless you go to the 3.5 SE. this frustrated me since the 2.5 is a great motor, but I didn't want a stripped car. I believe this changes for altima coupes, but then the money factor goes up... they don't lease particularly well.

    Car_man,

I am interested in leasing a car for the first time and like the Jetta (base model with 6 speed automatic). The best quote I received so far is:

    Down Payment: $0 (just 1st month's payment)
    Term: 36 months
    Mileage: 12K miles per year.
    Residual: $10600
    Payment: $270/month (All inclusive)

Virginia tax is 3% and I don't know how much tag, tittle, license and other fees cost.

Is this a good deal, or can I do any better?
  • z2adambombz2adambomb Member Posts: 18
I would shoot lower than that. Try to find out what the buy price for that quote is. in the current car market, you shouldn't be paying a dollar over invoice, so make sure that number as at invoice or below. With leasing they'll try to focus on monthly payment alone and leave buy price at MSRP... but you can save a lot of money on a lease if you negotiate as though you were buying the car. Once you have what you think is a competitive quote, email every VW dealer in your area, mention the specifics of the quote and ask if they'll beat it. you'll know you have a good price when other dealers can't beat the offer.

another helpful tool I used is the leaseguide.com lease calculator. I believe edmunds has one too. Run the numbers through there on your own before doing your negotiations (setup a lease based on invoice price and see where the numbers fall). Carman can help out with exact money factor and residuals if your dealer won't tell you. Remember that residuals are based on MSRP, not your buy cost... so higher residual, lower buy cost = lower leasing cost to you. Going into the dealer with your own figures helps a LOT, it often helps cut through the bull and get down to some honest figures. Good luck!

Hi...taking the new car lease plunge in the next week or so and think I have
    a decent deal: 2009 jetta se, 10k mile year , 0 down (1st payment + taxes),
36 mo. $249 ( + ny tax)/mo. any feedback would be greatly appreciated,

My wife was offerred a 36 month lease for a 2009 5-cyl auto Jetta SEL. The dealership in Reading, PA was asking for $1200 out-the-door costs for a 36 month lease @ $338 a month (tax included). I am very skeptical of this offer; I think she can do much better.

Can someone tell me if this cost is too high, and if so, what would a good monthly payment be for around $1000 out-of-pocket expenses going into the deal for a 36 month lease (with tax included) for the Jetta SEL?

    Thank You.
  • monkey10018monkey10018 Member Posts: 9
    Hi carsearcher3,
I would guess you might be able to do better...I am taking advantage of a similar deal on an SE and its $245 mo. I went thru the Costco website, it worked great!
cuts out alot of haggling with the dealer.

here;s a deal was just offered...while it is in NJ near nyc, it should give u an
idea of what you can negotiate:
    2009 jetta SEL Jetta lease
    With $1,500 down total
36 months is $273....... plus tax
    10,000 miles a year
Money factor is the same as the SE ..001010
    Residual is 55% and $13,001.45
    Selling price is $21,791.

I need a little bit of negotiaton help from you guys. I currently drive a 2006 Jetta 2.5 w/package 1, that MSRP'ed then for 23,055. I leased for 36mos, 12k/yr and no money down and everything included in the monthly lease for 260. That was in NC. Now I moved to MD and am looking at the 2009 SE w/automatic with MSRP for 21,195 and I am getting quotes of 330-340 per month, which makes no sense to me. Unfortunately I am time restricted as I just had a baby and I don't want to drag him to the dealer for hours to negotiate. I see people here posting and getting SE leases for 245-250, which was my budget. Any ideas or maybe dealer suggestions in MD? Thanks!
  • monkey10018monkey10018 Member Posts: 9
    Hi jettagal,
I am in the nyc area, so cant recommend a MD dealer, but did just
drive home my 09 SE last night with $1500 drive off (incl all taxes/fees/etc)
and $245 month. i found the dealer via the costco.com website. they
work only with dealers with good reputations and have a great time saving
no haggle price they will quote right away. good luck
  • jettagaljettagal Member Posts: 3
Thanks. Tried Costco and of course they routed the request to one of the three dealers that already gave me the 330/month quote, even the same sales rep. They have not followed up.

Could you possibly break down the MSRP and invoice price for me?
  • hldmaxhldmax Member Posts: 3
    Hi Monkey,

Could you please post which dealer you used in NYC? Dealers in Brooklyn have been quoting us around $350 a month on Jetta SE 12,000/36 lease.

I am working with a dealership and they said I qualify for a lease in VW's 'C' tier. He said the money factor for this tier was .029. I know my credit isn't the greatest but I still want to be sure I don't get taken to the cleaners.

    Does .029 sound reasonable?

Is it possible to for someone to take over my current 08 G6 lease, so that I am may get into a VW lease? Do you think I really stand a chance? The dealer tried getting me someone to take over last year, but I am wondering if you think if I tried asking them again, they might do it, just to gain my business again. Also, since GM is no longer leasing, one might think my lease is attractive over buying. They only have 2yrs left. Transfer fee $595, and heck I would be willing to transfer that fee into my new lease if the wanted my car. I just really want out. I could try leasetrader, but the odds of me getting out would be slim. The dealer could point the way to my car. They might see it as an opportunity for business. Its worth a try I think. They leased me the car.

Any advice would be helpful. I am wanting either Jetta or Passat.

Would the SE Wagon be the same 12k / 36 months (MF and residual?) Why are the residuals on the wagons worse than the sedans? 54% vs. 43% on wagons?

    Hi
Sure...I used Trend Motors in Ramsey,NJ. its a bit of a drive, but well worth it.
You can call or use the website. Tell them you want the Costco deal that Mike
got last week ... I went with the SE/automatic. 36 mo/10,000 miles and got
$245. 12,000 miles would be a little higher than that.
Let me know if you have any other questions...I was certainly happy to find info on this forum!
  • monkey10018monkey10018 Member Posts: 9
sorry I missed this the other day. Here's the deal I was quoted and actually purchased:
SE/automatic (only extra was the jetta mat pkge)
    36 mo/10k miles year
    sticker: $21,970
    cost: $19,710
$1500 down (covered all taxes/title/fees/etc, so total drive off)

Last year I was pointed to a Brooklyn dealer, and they were terrible.
Glad I found Trend Motors this time. They have a pretty decent stock
right now... oh, and if you go to "www.VW.com/NYoffer" it is a $500
coupon from the NY autoshow. good thru 4/30 I believe....I used it..!

Thanks from me too. It seems I can't get a better offer than 289 including everything (MD taxes, fees). I guess I will turn in the car and be done with VW for a while, esp having to deal with the arrogance of some dealers is annoying me. One quote was "VW can afford to not lower its prices because we have premium customers who are not losing their jobs, unlike Honda and Toyota". Hmmkay, that's why they are discounting the Golf in Germany with over 30% these days.
  • monkey10018monkey10018 Member Posts: 9
sorry to hear you are having to deal with some less than great dealers in your area. An SE or SEL for $289 (all incl) doesnt sound bad to me. As others have said on here, hard to estimate every areas taxes n fees...but my $245 lease came to $289 once taxes n fees etc were added in for NYC...
