09 Jetta S "California Edition" (17" anthracite-looking wheels, Bluetooth, spoiler)
$239/mo w/taxes included
$2500 down
15,000 mi
(What's the invoice + holdback on this bad boy? Would it be too aggressive to negotiate price to invoice as a start for the lease?)
She is a new college grad with good, but short, credit.
I don't have the money factor or residuals, but hopefully this is enough to work with. We're in San Diego and would be willing to drive for a great deal.
Is this a decent deal? Should we be working on an SE instead of the California edition (is there more room to negotiate)? Is there any way to put less down?
Always start with a good price, $0 down!, get the deal, then if you "need" to have a lower payment on a lease, well then offer it. $2,500 on a VW lease is high. I pay $330mth for my 08 Jetta SE $0 Down!
I Just got a really high lease quote on such a car and wanted to check my math.
Thanks!
Thank you!

Thanks.
Let us know what the selling price of the Jetta is in relation to its MSRP or dealer invoice price and I'm sure that either myself or another knowledgeable community member will be happy to let you know what they think.
As far as the money factor goes, VW Credit's current buy rate lease money factor for a 36 month lease of a 2009 Jetta Sedan S is .00117. Make sure that the dealer that you are working with uses that factor to calculate your payment.

That's the bad news. The good news is that Volkswagen is currently providing $500 dealer cash on diesel Jetta Sedans. This dealer cash can be used in conjunction with the aforementioned lease program.

The simple answer to why VW Credit's residual values are higher on Jetta Sedans than they are on Jetta Wagons is that the sedans retain their value better. Theoretically, vehicles' residual values are based upon what they would sell for on the open market several years from now as used vehicles. The potential list of customers who would be willing to buy a sedan is much larger than the list of customers who would be willing to buy a wagon.

When negotiating your lease on this car, make sure to take advantage of the $750 cash incentive that Volkswagen is currently providing on leases of it ($1,250 on models with manual transmissions).

I don't see anything on the VW site about Jetta lease cash incentives. Are these directly to the consumer or manufacturer to dealer? The dealer could play dumb so want to make sure I've got my ducks in a row.
Thanks,
KH
Here's my quote on a Wolfsburg Jetta, MSRP of $23574
$22777 invoice
$22000 price after incentive
$1250 drive off (1st month pymt, dmv, lic/fee)
.00139 MF
55% residual @12k miles per year
$327 per month, 36 month lease inc tax at 9.25%
In my opinion, the Wolfsburg Jetta with the 2.0T and DSG is one of the best packages for the money right now. However, it seems like I can do better on the lease? Maybe more than $750 below invoice?
There aren't many of these out there and compared to $200 lease for a Jetta S, the Wolfsburg Jetta is a far better driver's car.
Thoughts on this lease payment, model, etc are appreciated.
Looking for the current money factor and residual values for both the 2009 Jetta SEL and 2009 Jetta Wolfsburg Edition (6MT)
Terms:
36 months
12k miles/year
Any info would be greatly appreciated - thanks!
Though, I have thought about a few other models too. Perhaps the tiguan. That would be a fun little SUV. But, to get the leather you have to get the SEL. Which is crazy. The SE should be like the Jetta and come with the leatherette. S model come with cloth only. The SEL come with real leather.
I have also though about the Passat, I like a bigger car.
The wolfsburg is top choice.
So far I was offered..
35 payments X 309/mo w/ 10k miles/yr with just first payment out of pocket (all inclusive of all taxes and fees)
35 x289 w/ $1000 out of pocket
35x 259 w/$2,000 out of pocket
35x229 w/ $3,000 out of pocket
I just want the standard SE features (with beige leather interior). And this quote is for a model with 17 alloy wheels, bluetooth and a "monster mats" and "trunk liner kit".
What should I counter with if I just want the standard SE features?
Thank in advance for the advice!
Thanks,
KH
I am very interested in the Wolfsburg Edition in RED.
The 2.0T is awesome!
I'm looking for the current money factor and residual values (12k and 15k miles per year) for 2009 Jetta SE (automatic).
Thanks in advance..
Fully loaded 2009 Jetta SE w/6spd auto-tiptronic (wife can't drive stick)/ipod adapter
I based the deal on the nationwide lease offer from vw.com against the manual S model and worked from there
-$0 money down - you'll notice on the website that they require $2499 down but I worked that into the monthly cause I don't want to give that cash upfront. Many people are fooled by this cause they think about the lower monthly but don't realize that they are already paying that money upfront anyway if they give the down.
-$289 per month
-36mos/12K per year
- I was not charged for the ipod adapter and dealer charge. Not sure why though, maybe because it was late friday night and they needed to go??
- the monthly could have been lower ($30 less per month) if I got the manual transmission
- I also paid for the aquisition fees upfront (tax, dmv, etc.)
- the residual value is 11.5K at 36mos/the cap cost 20K/the money factor was the standard rate for the special lease offer.
I am a recent college grad looking for cheap and reliable transportation, so the basic Jetta seems to fit the bill. I wanted to know if this is a good deal:
2009 Jetta 2.5 S Manual
$4500 trade-in (2001 Explorer Sport Trac w/ 75,000 miles)
$0 cash down
$199/month (includes tax)
36 month/12,000 miles
**also, are dealers generally willing to order a specific color for a leased car? I really want the salsa red, but the dealer only has white in-stock. Is it reasonable for me to ask for the red, or would I just have to take what is on the lot?
Thanks for your time, I really appreciate it!
Their lease deals are not much to look at. Of course always look at them with $0 down attitude.
People seem to be getting decent deals, but holding on to their cars is not a good practice right now. Move them VW!
MSRP: 18,215
Selling: 16,920
NY Tax: 8.75 + 254.00 (T&R)
$1,200 down and $240 a month for 36 months money factor .00117 12,000k miles
plus I qualify for student discount (no deposit and first payment)
Just some food for thought.
is 330$(include tax, etc..) a month with $0 down payment, 1st month free(student discount), 12k for 36months a good deal for a jetta se 09 automatic with standard feature?
I am in CT.
Thanks.
Thank you.
Check it all out here on Edmunds, look up new car prices, sale and invoice prices for the car.
I think your on to a good deal though.
Let us know.
10k miles/year
$169/month
$3k down
54% Residual value
.00117 Money Factor
Any thoughts would be appreciated! Good deal? Bad Deal?
Thanks...
Save that money... roll it later if you need help making the payments. Now is not the time for anyone to be putting that much down on a car, if you decide to take a loan on the car, and keep it for years, than that would be better.
For every $1k=$20-30 off your payments or added back.
What was your sale price for the S model? That will tell you if they are working for you or against you.
To clarify-It's automatic, not a manual, so it's a little pricier. Since it's a California edition, it also includes Bluetooth, spoiler, alloy wheels and Ipod Adapter. My sale price is $19,815.
I'm actually leasing here in California because I'll be here exactly three years and don't want to have to pay to ship a car back to New York (where I'm from). I want the barebones Jetta and pay the minimum I can for the 3 years and then give it back. 0% chance of me keeping the car. I can also pay it all up front if that made sense economically. Will ask for the regular S edition and not the California edition if it can save me money.
I wouldn't pay for it all up front. I just wouldn't wrap a bunch of money in a car.
But, the sale price seems nice! Go for it!
Also looking for mf and residual for manual S and SE 12k miles a yr. Thanks all!
anyhow, here are my terms
36 month lease
12k miles/yr
$0
$595 due at signing (1st months pmt plus license fee)
6MT, monstor mats/cargo liner
$287/mth (includes tax).
IMO this was a very good deal. lease pmts was based on $20,799 base cap cost; MSRP was $22,xxx. Residual value at term end is $12,234
I think anyone looking at an SE or SEL should be able to arrive at a similar price, based on similar MSRP
Most folks who get fleeced wtih a payment in the mid to low 300's a month is due to their shopping for similar "sport" compacts, which are usually leasing in the mid 300's, so the uninformed feels that the wolfsburg lease rate in the low/mid 300's is in the "ballpark".
Also looked at a 2009 civic SI, which i got down to the same price (~$275/mth nothing down).
I am quite impressed with the car - feels very solid, the 2.0T is a GREAT motor. My leasing philosophy in the past, which has always treated me well, is to ID the amount you want to pay each month (nothing down), and find the most car for that price range.
There is really nothing out there that provides, IMO, a comparable deal given the motor in the jetta wolfsburg, with v-tex (not too bad a surface), heated seats, sunroof, decent stereo.
I was also considering a suby legacy SE, mazda 3/6; nothing matched the driving dynamics of the VW per dollar.
Mind you i am coming out of a 4 year lease on a saab 9-3 2.0T manual. This car was a blast to drive, but actually i think the VW has a more sporty feel. Sure, the VW has a few less creature comforts that were nice (auto off lights, auto AC, etc), but for $113 less a month, i'm pretty happy!
good luck
Thanks for providing us with the numbers. I think you got an excellent deal. Would you mind sharing the money factor and the payment before taxes? Also, if you still have the numbers for the Si around, I'd like to take a look at them as well.
Thanks.
not sure about the money factor, but evidently it was either on par with what VW is using or even better, given the bottom line lease numbers.
i don't have any specific figures on the civic si - just going on the price that i received at jay honda in bedford after getting competitive quotes on line and again re-confirmed in person with the sales schlep. i recall the price of the si on which the lease was based was around $18,500.
what i did was use edmonds quote request, got tons of quotes on line and put them against one another. the most upfront dealer got my business. all the others whom i told were way out of the park from the most competitive quote said they'd match the best quote. i simply responded that my loyalty goes to the dealer that is upfront in offering the best, most competitive quote from the get go.
if you are looking for a WE, i'd get on it soon. i got the last one in the region, but my other lease broker said he could get me whatever i wanted (not so sure about that given the ltd edition). he also quoted $279 w/o tax $0 down
Though, I am in another lease now for a little under 2 more years... I plan to do what I can to get the car I "want"
The Wolfsburg offers big bang for the buck. Not to mention its so much fun!

Volkswagen Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2009 Jetta Sedan S with 12,000 miles per year are .00117 and 53%, respectively. The numbers for an otherwise identical lease of an '09 Jetta Sedan SE are .00054 and 53%.
VW is currently providing a $750 cash incentive on leases of '09 Jetta Sedans with automatic transmissions and $1,250 on ones with manual transmissions.
It also is running a dealer cash stairstep program that provides dealers that hit their sales objectives with $500 per unit.

You never mentioned how long you want to lease for or what mileage allowance you need, so I had to make some assumptions. Let me know if you want something different.
The $750 that's available on leases of Jetta Sedans with automatic transmissions is the only consumer incentive that I am aware of on this car right now.
