After weeks of "haggling" with the dealer, I got mine for $21,500, Wolfsburg automatic with drivers kit, which includes the mats and lip spoiler. I'd say you did very well...did you get any additional options on yours?
  • bubbli1bubbli1 Member Posts: 4
Hi bvdj84, I paid cash-down for my car. I'm from Canada and it was such a hassle for me to get my credit approved here, so it was much easier to just pay cash. From all the research that I did though, leasing/payment options for a VW right now is really good if you have a good credit rating.
  • bubbli1bubbli1 Member Posts: 4
Thanks for replying! That makes me feel better. I got mine with the same options as yours. This was my first time buying a car, so I was really scared I was going to lose a lot of money to the dealers. Is the 21,500 including taxes and fees?
  • rhett78rhett78 Member Posts: 22
No unfortunately not...the price of $21,500 did not include TT&L, I have to pay that at closing, but there were no other fees.
  • cascadejimcascadejim Member Posts: 11
    Hi all,

For those of you discussing the new '09 Wolfsburg, I had the dealer offer $21646 invoice price (then -500 for vw loyalty) + $400 in dealer fees for a price of around $21546 excluding TTL. It's close to where I'd be happy, but is it realistic to offer $500 lower than this, financing at 5.9% for 5 years. Other option they quoted $350/mth 39mth lease, 12k miles, sign then drive. I'm undecided how i'd like to approach this, but curious what others thought of the deal.

    Thanks.

Interesting question, jayrider. I don't think that I've gotten that one before. Well, this car's residual value is great but its money factor stinks. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best, I personally would give this program around a 4.

Hi cascadejim. You can always try to get the dealer to knock a few hundred dollars more off of this car's selling price, but I personally think that this deal is about as good as you are going to get. Dealer invoice is a very reasonable price for any '09 Jetta right now.

Car_Man...thanks for your insight. I would prefer to have the Wolfsburg Jetta but as you point out, the money factors from VW credit are not agressive. I know you follow many of the markets out there, so my question is...where is the "good deal" on a 4 door sedan lease in this class? I've looked at a number of similar makes/models but haven't found anything interesting although the lease program on the Nissan Sentra 2.5S seems interesting. What's your take as to where to look? :confuse:
  • jayriderjayrider Member Posts: 3,602
I think everyone who cruises the leasing forums would find it useful for the moderators to come up with an opinion scale on lease values. Since there are several of you hosts that prowl these messages, you could even post best and worst deals. They seem to change as manufacturers vary the rebates- terms- etc. so a 9 this week might be a 5 next week. I think it would simplify a complicated issue and stimulate interest and discussion. So in that light ,what appears to be C-Man's best current lease deal foreign or domestic?
  • cascadejimcascadejim Member Posts: 11
Thanks Car Man, I think I will offer flat invoice as final cost out the door excluding TTL. There are a few other dealers in the area with them in stock that I could begin negotiating with and i'm not in a major rush.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
No problem, rhett78. Other Jetta-sized Sedans that have better lease programs include the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Mazda3, Mazda6, Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry, and Toyota Corolla. All of these cars have better money factors than the 20009 Jetta, but some of their residual values aren't quite as good.

Ok, I turned in my 06 jetta today. Leather, nav, the works. Broke my heart a bit:(
I am now deciding if I should just go carless for a bit or go for the SE lease I've been offered after shopping around A LOT.

    SE with ipod
    12 k per yr
    $500 down total
    $277.00 a month

This seems like a good deal but I really wanted an sel with nav and they are impossible to find. I am so exhausted from haggling with dealers that I am thinking I should just do this and buy a portable nav:(
Anyone have an opinion? And why won't any dealers in MA help me find what I really want?
    Thank u!!
  • jayriderjayrider Member Posts: 3,602
how many years for your lease? Go with the portable navigation lots of new tech and low prices.

I've been back and forth with a few dealers and the numbers are starting to blur! Can I get an honest opinion on the following offer? If there is room for improvement can you let me know where to attack (price, money factor, etc).

2009 Jetta SEL w/lip spoiler, sunroof deflector, monster mats, 10k miles
    $23,769 MSRP
    39mth Residual: $14,261(60%) money factor.00273

$369 (inc tax) @ 39mth w/$0 down, VW buys out my current lease @ $12,880, VW makes 1st payment.

    Thoughts?
    Thanks.
  • cascadejimcascadejim Member Posts: 11
what's the final sale price? Also, what is sales tax where you live?
  • cascadejimcascadejim Member Posts: 11
Actually, i just kind of ran your numbers assuming about 8% tax (highest rate i know of in states) and it appears you are paying MSRP final sales price. That's no good. The invoice on a '09 SEL with MSRP of 22,790 is $21559 according to edmunds so you should be paying somewhere in that neighborhood and calculating the lease from that sale price.
  • jetta_girljetta_girl Member Posts: 3
Ok this sounds stupid, but I think the $23,769 is the final price. The sales tax is 9.25%. The first offer the dealer made based on this price was $439 and I called him out on it. Told him I had another dealer offer $389, he matched it. Then I had another dealer offer the $369 and again he matched it. I've been dealing straight through email and I have to go back and piece the emails together. I kinda feel like I could push a little more, but I'm not sure where the breaking point truly would be...Does that make any sense?
  • cascadejimcascadejim Member Posts: 11
Ok, well the final price you are quoting is MSRP. When negotiating on a lease you should always start by negotiating on the price of the car as if it was a purchase. So let's say invoice is $21559, but with your options perhaps the invoice price is near $22,500. If you change the sale price nearer to invoice and run the calculations the lease price/mth drops to $340/mth. Here are the calculations below, you kind of go through the whole math process from top to bottom to find the end monthly price.

    MSRP - $23,769
    Residual value - 60% = 14,261
    Money Factor = .00273
Capatilized Cost (final sale price) = $22,500 (let's assume you negotiate to near invoice at $22,500)
Cost over life of lease (final sale price - residual value) = $8239
    Divided by 39 months = $211.25/month
Lease cost (APR/Money factor) this is MSRP plus residual value multiplied by money factor = $101.03/month
    Brings lease cost to $312.28/month
    Factor in taxes of 9.25% ($312.28 * 1.0925)
    Total price $340.38/mth

    Hope this helps.

Do we have any dealers on board here who know what the buy rate is for a 60 month purchase of a 09 Jetta through VW Financial?
I know the program rates but I don't want to get taken to the cleaners if I can negotiate the rate down .5-1%. I don't mind the salesman making some cash off of me, I just hate paying for back end proffit when they do nothing to earn it.
    Thanks for your help.

It's not as simple as cascadejim makes it out to be since you are trading in a lease. We would also have to know what your buyout is on lease vs real world trade-in value. The dealer could be taking a loss on your lease if you got a bad deal on your last lease. He is also off a few dollars on his calculations. It would be more like $344.

PS: 6.5% money factor for a lease is ridiculously high. I would buy it. You could probably get a loan for $22,500 6 years for $370 a month. Buyout after 3 years would be about $12,000. Trade-in value, assuming you took care of it, would be at least $13,000 maybe more. With your situation of trading in another lease it does get complicated.

Also, where do you live? 9.25% taxes!!! I would like to know so I will not unknowingly move there.

The buyout on my lease right now is just over $12k (that is including the 3 payments I have left). It is a 2005 CRV EX, good condition, just your typical wear and tear. Just hit 40k miles this month. My payments are $377 inc tax.

The dealer that offered the original deal in this thread, pissed me off, and I walked away.
I now have another dealer that I have recently started talking with. I asked about prices on 2008/2009 Jetta SEL. Of course he is pushing towards the 2009. He has also suggested the Wolfsburg edition, but I really don't know the specifics on that car. It sounds more powerful than the SEL and seems like it might have a few more bells and whistles, but shows about $1500 less than the SEL....Soo..What's the catch?
    Does it require premium gas?

I really appreciate all the advice!

    Thanks.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Hi macrodarden. VW Credit is currently offering 3.9% financing for 3 years, 4.9% for 4 years, and 5.9% for 5 years on the 2009 Jetta. This is the lowest that dealers can offer on this car. They aren't making money other than a small flat fee and whatever gross they make on your car for signing you up at these rates.

Wolfsburg has a 2.0T turbo engine in it so you have to use Premium. The SEL is the top of the line Jetta so that is the one that has all of the bells and whistles (leather, etc.) Personally I like the look of the SEL better.....not a big fan of the old school Jetta whip antenna on the top of the car.
  • cascadejimcascadejim Member Posts: 11
Done deal, purchased a 2009 Jetta Wolfsburg in CT. Fresh off the boat, 11 miles on odometer, 6 Speed manual, black/anthracite, wolfsburg package, only add-on is spoiler. Final negotiated price $21,530 including all dealer fees and registration (not including tax). MSRP $22,474 and they wanted $160 DMV and $299 conveyance fee, which they either waived or dropped price of car to roll those into final price. So $21,530 and I was able to grab $1,000 owner loyalty making the price of the car for me in real terms of $20,530, which I was very happy about.

Hope this helps. I'd be happy to refer people if needed. Carman, should this be posted elsewhere?

    Hi,

I confirmed with a dealer that the sign-then-drive promotion has been extended to 1/2/09. Has anyone been able to lease a Jetta at or below invoice (prior to any loyalty rebates or $500 manual rebate that the dealers are able to get)?

My lease is coming due in January and I will likely be leasing one in the coming month.

Also, Carman or anyone, can you confirm that the leasing rate for a 39month/10k for a Jetta S Manual 4DR is still 0.00273 MF and 61% residual?

    Thanks,
  • bisdamonlbisdamonl Member Posts: 5
I don't have specifics with me, but I just got an SE with an MSRP of $21,289 for $300/month. That's with 9% PA tax. The negotiated price was around 20000, close to or below invoice, I think. That MF and residual sound like the deal I got.
  • atsenbatsenb Member Posts: 38
bisdamonl - what did you lease it for in terms of usagee? 39m/45k, 39m/36k, 39m/30k?

Also, did you roll everything into your lease or did you pay the $575 bank fee and the plates/DMV fees (around $150-200). The $575 adds about $15/month to the lease, the $150-200 adds about $7/month to the lease.

Assuming you leased it for 39m/30k with 61% residual and rolled the acq. and misc. fees into the payment, you basically got it for around $700-800 below invoice, which is a pretty good deal I think. If you leased it with more mileage allowance, then the deal is even better!

I believe there are also a $1000 loyalty from VW Credit and another $500 that VW is offering to the dealers if you get a manual transmission. Can anyone confirm these incentives/promotions from VW to the dealers/consumers for the tri-state area for the month of December??

    Thanks,
  • kshankarkshankar Member Posts: 175
.0030 money factor is 7.2%. That is kind of high for an interest rate, don't you think?
    .0030 x 2400=7.2%
  • bisdamonlbisdamonl Member Posts: 5
My terms were 39 months/39k miles. I paid some costs up front, something like $450. My payment before PA lease tax is $275. There was also a loyalty incentive of $1000, although I can't seem to find any mention of it on vw.com.
  • atsenbatsenb Member Posts: 38
I agree that 0.00273x2400 = 6.55% for an interest rate is high, but if you can get the car for $1000 less than before, you are effectively getting a 4.3% interest (set the Excel model to goal seek to get the number).

So while I agree that 6%+ is high for financing rate, and if you can finance it at 0% apr, by all means, go for it. The manufacturer (and the consumer) should be indifferent to how the incentive comes along (whether it be lower money factors or lower sales price) as long as the dealers are willing to pass along that saving (I think this is the key part).
  • atsenbatsenb Member Posts: 38
    Thanks bisdamonl for your reply.

Can you confirm that your final negotiated price of $20,000 is AFTER the loyalty incentive? If it is, it would be a bit discouraging as I was hoping to get the dealers to at or below invoice, then asking for the loyalty incentive.

I am fairly certain there is still a $500 incentive for manual transmission as well.

    Thanks,
  • polyvwpolyvw Member Posts: 59
Can someone let me know the current incentives for the 2009 Jetta Wolfsburg 2.0t?

I currently own a 2007 Jetta GLI so I would be elibile for any loyalty rebates, I also graduated college in July 2007 so do I also get any grad deals? I didnt use one on the 07 purchase.

    I'm looking at a 3yr 15k/yr lease
  • bisdamonlbisdamonl Member Posts: 5
The negotiated price was before the loyalty incentive.

I'll also let you know what I had to do to get them down that far. The first dealer I went to is where I ended up, but after I received their initial higher offer, I took that to another dealer. I spent almost a week in negotiations with the second dealer for the car that was closest to what I wanted, which happened to be a couple thousand less than the car I picked out at the first dealership. That second dealership employed several shady and underhanded tactics so I really didn't want to do business with them. I took that offer to the original dealer and told them I got the deal I needed from the other dealer, but they (the first dealer) had the car I wanted. Basically, I said this is what I want to pay for the car I want, make it happen. And they came damn close and that was good enough for me.

After tons of research and test drives (S40, 9-3, A3, Mazda3, WRX, Accord, Mini Clubman, etc.) I'm making a decision this weekend on the new Jetta Wolfsburg, so I'd like the advice of anyone offering it. I'm a small business owner, so because of tax benefits I've decided on a lease. It all shakes down to this:

    2009 Jetta WE, stick
    36mo/12k/ZERO down
    $335 per month

Anyone? I'm also getting a good deal on my trade-in, and I've negotiated this pretty hard - let me know what you think. Also, I live in Delaware. Thx.
  • cascadejimcascadejim Member Posts: 11
Well I don't know what your residual is or the specific details of lease, but that sounds pretty good. What is the negotiated sale price for the car? I bought my 2009 WE (manual) about 3 weeks ago now for $20,530 and the lease prices worked out to be about $40-$50/month cheaper than buying the car (so I purchased instead, payments over 5 years FYI) and my payments are around $380 (I can't remember off-hand and haven't had my first bill yet).

After having it 3 weeks I still feel it's easily the best value in it's class for the features you get. The only issue i have is the stereo is very "trebley" if that's a word.

I actually found that dealers were more willing to work on prices of automatics because apparently only 10% of the WE's are manuals (there's really no way I could find to verify this) and they actually offered me $100 less than that for an automatic, but I prefer manual.

Hi, I am in Miami, FL and planning to lease a VW Jetta, either S or SE , in the next week. First question: other than the sunroof and V-tex seats, is there a real difference between the two model's? Also, the numbers they brought back to me were around $300 p. (39m, 12K p/y) for the S and about $20 more ($320) for the SE. I want to know if this is a good deal or am I getting ripped off. The VW website shows the S at $269 p/m + tax, tag, dealer fees etc. Can I ask them to waive the dealer fees? Basically I want to know if $300 for this lease is a good deal or should i walk away?
  • jessy1jessy1 Member Posts: 13
    Hi,
I leased an SE for 275.00 a month a few weeks ago, $500 down full ( I think all but $100 of that were registration fees). I did a lot of haggling , I feel like it an ok deal. In this enviornment, I would really try to get them below 300. I have 12k per yr, 39 months.
For me, the S is not worth it. The wheels look cheap and there is no satellite radio. The SE is better. Keep in mind before this I had an SEL ( it was a package 3 in 2006) with real leather and NAV so I couldn't give up that much and drop to an S.
Even though its a pain always always got to at least 2 dealers. Call one and try bluffing. Maybe say, " someone else is telling me 295 but if you can do 280, I will buy from you.."
Keep us posted! By the way I am in the Boston area.

Hi polyvw. Volkswagen's lease program for the Jetta Wolfsburg is not very attractive right now. If you were to lease one through VW Credit in December for 36 months with 15,000 miles per year, its buy rate lease money factor and residual value would be .00300 and 61%, respectively.

Volkswagen is waiving the first month's payment and security deposit on all Jetta leases this month. I believe, but I'm not 100% positive, that the Wolfsburg qualifies for this offer.

what equipment do you have on your SE?

My 05.5 Jetta Lease is up soon and want to get into an 09 SE (auto) or SEL.

What was the price of the car?
    Any money down?

Here is the breakdown of what I am being offered, and I will probably be making a decision tomorrow or wednesday.

    '09 Jetta S MT
    Price: $18,189
    Preferred Customer Discount: -$1389.00
    Selling Price: $16,800

Sales Tax (Estimate)(WA Tax is about 9%): $1499.65
    Tag/Registration Fees: $86.00
    Documentation Fee: $50
    TOTAL BALANCE: $18,435.65

They are offering me $258/39mo/30k with $500 down.

Invoice is $17,350, but with tax this seems legit.
Should I be able to ask for the $500 MT rebate?
Also should I be able to ask for the 1st month waiver?

    What information am I missing?
  • atsenbatsenb Member Posts: 38
    amartinwa,

I think the 1st month waiver is done from VW Credit, so you should be just confirm with them that will be the case.

I called a couple of dealers in the NY area, they are telling me that the manual transmission $500 is not available this year.

I ran your numbers through the model, the number sounds about right, I am coming up with $257.40. You should also be paying for a $575 acquisition/bank fee, which I am guessing they somehow included into the vehicle price. I guess in WA you have to pay taxes on the full amount of the vehicle, which is a bummer. I think in NY, the amount is only on the amount of the lease payment (could be wrong, haven't confirmed this).

I think the $18,189 amount is $200 higher than the MSRP price, which I am assuming they included carpet. I guess you can ask them to remove that to lower your payment by about $5/month.
  • amartinwaamartinwa Member Posts: 2
The weird thing is that in WA you dont pay sales tax on the full price of the vehicle.Do you think the dealer threw that figure in to make it look like I was getting a better deal? Now that I realize how large that number is, I am starting to get some red flags.
  • atsenbatsenb Member Posts: 38
Just got a quote from a dealer in the east coast area. Paying just the plates and registration on signing, they are offering $245 with all the payments rolled in (taxes, acquisition fees, whatever). 39m/10k per yr.

This is still higher than what I told them I would pay, so I will have to do some additional work.

This is a Jetta S Manual w/no options. I am not in a hurry to get the car, so I will wait until I get the target price I am looking at.
  • steavossteavos Member Posts: 4
$245 per month is too low? That's aggressive, isn't it? Sign&Drive puts that at $269+....good luck!
  • polyvwpolyvw Member Posts: 59
Are there better lease terms on other VW Jetta / GLI / Rabbit / GTI trims? On my 07 GLI I got .00068 MF, which seems like a screaming deal compared to the current .003
