Styling - the Japanese have a lock on the "bland but good" whereas the domestics are just bland
Market share erosion - due to the above and other things, they have to stop the erosion first, then concentrate on increasing their share. It seems the three thought that they would always command high share despite the awakening of the import giants. Also they felt people were just going to buy their products simply because they were GM, FOMOFO, Chrysler. Eh, no!!
Competition and competitive product - recognize the competition in the segments you are in / want to be in, then introduce products that are better. Recognize the strengths and capitalize on that, recognize the weaknesses and improve them to strengths. Also find a niche you can bring to table that the others can't; and I don't mean incentives and cashbacks but items the others don't. Like warranties - Hyundai became a good user of this, also VW. Or options that are standard on the vehicle that are hi-priced items / not available on the others. Or how about something crazy like a vehicle the consumer actually wants, not a vehicle you want them to have? You have to bring something extra to the game, not just stay pat with the competition. And recognize there is competition.
The current customer - these are the best salesmen/women, not the people at the dealership. It is the current owner / leaser (word?) that is going to promote the product the most, good or bad. These are the people that are going to bring the most traffic to the door. It's like this, if a person who currently owns a Ford whatever isn't happy with the vehicle or doesn't like what you're doing with the current / future products, why should someone else like your products? It's like a person making a meal and serving it to their guests but doesn't partake of the meal because they don't like it for whatever reason. The guests are going to question the meal, and more likely not eat it and grab a pizza on the way home.
So styling, market erosion, competition, customer-base are some of the issues affecting the domestic makers.
Hows it going jae ? Dad is doing very good and happy to be out of GM/Delphi. Dad, said the familiar faces he once saw were all but gone. The local union lost alot of experience. He said he feels sorry for the next generation of auto-workers. Step-dad and aunt are holding their breath. I guess the 18th is the new day from what I've read today. I did thought it was changed to December :confuse: They've changed or delayed the date so many time who can keep track.
I think GM, is much better off than alot of the competition. Look at Ford or Chrysler, and show me where they are better. :confuse:
It pains me that more people weren't outraged at Toyota, and its lies. If GM, would of pulled something like that today, they'd go BK.
Really ? :confuse: I figured those plants would of been filled up by now. You can't get much better than $12-14 bucks an hour with Zero benefits.
The alternative.
Like John Goodman, said in Coming to America at McDowells: "I'm on Fry's and in a year or 2, I will make assistant manager, and that's when the big bucks start rollling in"
Ha, good one Rock. But it was Louie Anderson, not John Goodman.
Haven't kept up with the Delphi date - has it been extended again beyond yesterday? I tell ya, this thing's got more extensions than a beauty shop hair dresser.
Could it be they are shifting back to concentrate on cars? Agree with the Edmunds comment about GM, Ford and DC getting a reprieve from a potential market share drop, but they are still dropping overall due to the lack of car interest.
I just hope GM & Ford don't fall into the "low fuel for now" trap and start cranking the SUVs and full-size trucks like there's no tomorrow. :surprise:
Seems DC goes back and forth. First Chrysler is in the dumpster, then they come up with winners and Damiler (MB) is hit with quality woes. They get those settled and as soon as the dust starts settling down, Chrysler starts its slide.
that roller coaster ride of ups and downs since oh, around 1958, when the bad quality of the 1957 models, which lured a whole bunch of new buyers in with stunning new styling, ended up biting them on the butt. From then on out it seems like they'd have good times and horrible times, but never would stabilize and just be mediocre with a long, slow decline, as we've seen with GM and Ford.
And Chrysler had good times and bad times before that, but it seems like starting in '58, the peaks and valleys of this odd cycle just got deeper and deeper.
So is this why "Christine" (movie) was so mad all the time?
Could be. After all, the first people she attacked worked on the assembly line. When she slammed that hood down on the first guy, it was almost as if to say "You will never improperly rustproof a car again as long as you live!" :P
Yeah, they'll be built in facilities next to every Super Wal-Mart from which they'll be sold by the same unfortunate souls in the blue vests. Geely expects to save a lot of labor costs by making those guys work off the clock.
Want to talk about cheap? My workplace used to have a professional cleaning crew who did a fine job and kept the place spotless. Then, they termninated the contract and hired a company run by this "born-again Christian" dude with a crew of mentally disabled people whom he pays peanuts and treats shabbily. They didn't do as good a job, but at least it provided some work for these unfortunate guys. Now, they want to cut their jobs from full-time to part time. Instead of daily trash pick-up, it'll be weekly! At this rate, pretty soon we'll be dumping our own trash and cleaning our own restrooms!
I know, that's what's so frustrating. You want to buy from the home team, whether it's GM, Ford, but then you see the type of plays/decisions they make and it's like "Did they just do what I think they did?":confuse:

How's your pops doing now that he's retired and uncle/aunt doing at Delphi? The 18th the new day huh, unless the judge postpones it again.

It's pretty sad we live in a world, where 16 minutes extra worth of break-time at work will be discussed for cost reductions. :surprise:
46 minutes worth of break-time isn't very much rest on a assembly line and that includes walking time. I've worked on one I'd know first hand.
