Sell my old car in CA that has expired out of state license plate?

I've recently moved to CA from IL. My IL license plate has expired. I want to sell my 2009 Camry car and get a new car. To make matter more complicated. I have paid off the car a long time ago but never removed the bank as a lien on the title. I have the notarized stamped lien release letter from the bank.

What's my best bet to quickly sell the car? KBB has my car value at $7-8k. I'm willing to sell it lower at $6k min. Dealer would trade in at $4-$5k. I really don't want to go through the trouble of registering the car and getting the title in CA.

No individual seller is going to buy your car, without you fixing the title issue, at the very least.

Getting a CA title is no big deal. You can register the car on a non-op status I'm pretty sure, so no need to buy plates for it. Make an appointment online for DMV and get it done. New title comes pretty quickly in the mail. DMV will tell you everything you need to do. Last thing you want is your car sale going sour on you.
