Oh, yeah. My buddy up in New Hampshire had a Trooper for it seemed forever. A fine beast.
So, now I'm up to checking coffee cans in New YOrk? Richard, I am disappointed in you.
I remember the Honda Passport fiasco. Sell your soul to get SUVs. The first major misstep I remember from Honda. To make matters worse the other part of the deal gave Isuzu rebadged first generation Odysseys that they marketed as the Isuzu Oasis.

We had good luck with our 1993 Pathfinder. I'd love to have a Discovery II but I just don't want to have to deal with all the maintenance issues. That said, for as little as I actually use 4WD my 1999 Wrangler is perfect; cheap to insure/maintain and just about unstoppable.

I inherited my father's 1973 Bronco V8; it was a rustbucket and I sold it to a friend for $1,000. No regrets, ever. My Wrangler is faster, handles MUCH better, gets better mileage, and the heater, A/C and radio actually WORK(all three were marginal on the Bronco back in '73 when Dad bought it new). Oh yeah, the Jeep hasn't needed any rusted areas patched either- the Bronco needed new floors rockers, and front fenders by 1978, and the rust was even worse by 1992 when I got it... This is one case where reality trumps nostalgia- for me, anyway.

Driver and Explorer---Thanks for the Bronco pictures. The emerald green/tan one that I mentioned was an '89 Eddie Bauer Edition Bronco II. It was a beautiful vehicle. I still wish that I had pulled the trigger on it.
Driver---We went to see "Lincoln Lawyer" this evening. It was a very good movie, and I enjoyed watching my old Lincoln as much as anything else. Last week, we saw "The King's Speech"---one of the absolutely best movies that I've seen in years. I never go to see the same movie twice, but would make an exception in that case.
The dealer made the mistake because my daughter traded a car with a Texas title for a new car in WV. After the deal was done, the WV DMV told the dealer they wanted the additional sales tax on the entire book value of the vehicle that was traded in, instead of the difference, and, wouldn't issue a WV title for the trader unless the dealer paid it. The finance manager called us and explained the situation to us and asked us nicely if we could help resolve it. The way my daughter handled it was fair and equitable to both parties.
I enjoyed watching my old Lincoln as much as anything else.
Yes, the movie wouldn't be quite the same without that big square Lincoln. I mean, who would see a movie called the Corolla Lawyer...it just wouldn't be the same.
The King's Speach is a great movie too, mainly because it relies on good old fashion dialogue and acting. No chase scenes or shoot 'em ups.
In that vein, the Social Network is also a really good movie too. I don't know much about Facebook, but the movie is about how an idea gets started, and the way to make it successful.
I think there are usually about 6 movies a year that are worth seeing. Those were good ones that adults can actually enjoy.
The dealer made the mistake because my daughter traded a car with a Texas title for a new car in WV. That’s the first time that I’ve heard of wanting sales tax on the “ENTIRE book value of the vehicle that was TRADED in”. I’ve always seen that the tax owed was the DIFFERENCE between the trade and the new car. The state holds all the cards in this case by holding the traded car hostage until they get it the way they want.
FWIW, I bought my ’09 Genny in Ohio and only paid the DIFFERENCE in taxes between it and the ’06 Sonata that was traded in. That’s the way it works in PA (I didn’t know that WV is a bigger thief than PA and most other states  ). Only having to pay the difference was a factor in trading the car because I didn’t think I would have been able to sell the Sonata privately for what I would have had to get for it to break even compared to the way it was done.
The finance manager called us and explained the situation to us and asked us nicely if we could help resolve it. The way my daughter handled it was fair and equitable to both parties.
NICELY is the operative word here and like I said before, your daughter did the “honorable thing”. Just curious, would she have been so honorable if the dealer approached this like ‘sween’s’ dealer did with him?

Some student in my small town is driving an International Harvester Scout (Scout II?). It doesn't appear to have the original paint--or at least all the gloss is gone. That doesn't surprise me since my old boss bought a Scout new in 1979 and in 1980 (when I started working for him) it had already developed some rust around the wheel wells and at the bottom of the doors.
I think that the Scout, like the Bronco and early 70s Toyota Land Cruisers, has a certain cachet among the hipster, pretend off-road, I'm-cooler-than-you crowd that represent about 2% of the student body on this campus and others. They're the same boys who now ride fixed gear bikes sans brakes that are cobbled together from old 70s and 80s Euro-import 10 speeds. (I'm sure that Snake blows past some on his rides)
Sorry, that's probably a lot more information than you wanted now that you are safely outside the warm embrace of the educational industry.

I had completely forgotten about the Scout. I always like those as well. It's funny what will interest young people today. I walked through a men's store the other day and noticed these slim ties and belts for sale---like we wore in the '50's. The manager said that they are the latest graving among the young men---along with '50's styled dress hats in different colors. I suppose that this supports that old adage: Hang on to anything long enough and...

Yes, if you move to WV from another state, the DMV makes you pay sales tax on the entire book value of your car before they'll issue you a title and tags. If you trade in a car here with an out of state title, they hit you for taxes on the entire purchase price of the new vehicle. One more reason why WV sits near the bottom of any list that matters to people. I've seen State troopers sit in school parking lots - watching for people enrolling kids, yet, still running out of state tags on their cars. Our state government just loves to get their hands in our pockets. Also - had the finance guy not approached my daughter in a nice manner - she'd have flamed his butt. A salesman at a Toyota dealership in Texas got smart and aggressive with her when she was shopping for a 4Runner. She called both the owner of the dealership and Toyota's home office and reported the guy.
I dunno about that. They have a fund - part of student fees - that they goes to entertainment and such chosen by some sort of committee of students. I think it's time to change that.

Our carrier is a rural carrier also but she drives an LLV. On my condo route, I used to drive a Dodge Caravan which had a/c & a stereo unlike the previous Caravan which had neither. The reason being the post office finally got wise & bought their Caravans instead of leasing them.

Can't believe that they canceled your treatments because of a stupid piece of paper. Actually, I can believe anything when it comes to the government. I was talking with a friend this morning who is a Vietnam vet in a wheelchair. He has to have his master bath remodeled with a wider door, non-slip tile floor, and a wider shower. The re-fit will cost $15,000. The VA only offers to pay $6,000. So much for getting wounded in fighting for your country! It does burn me up when I hear about such things. Fortunately, my friend can afford the $9,000 difference. Many vets would not be able to pay the cost.

Why would anyone other than the USPS and very limited other occupations be allowed to have RHD in the USA.
I found these reasons why driving on the left (RHD) is actually safer (wikipedia): Safety factors
Research in 1969 by J. J. Leeming showed countries driving on the left have a lower collision rate than countries driving on the right.[29] It has been suggested this is partly because humans are more commonly right-eye dominant than left-eye dominant.[30][31][32] In left-hand traffic, the predominantly better-performing right eye is used to monitor oncoming traffic and the driver's wing mirror. In right-hand traffic, oncoming traffic and the driver's wing mirror are handled by the predominantly weaker left eye. In addition, it has been argued that left sided driving is safer for elderly people given the likelihood of their having visual attention deficits on the left side and the need at intersections to watch out for vehicles approaching on the near-side lane.[33] Furthermore, in a RHD car with manual transmission, the driver maintains his or her right (i.e. in the majority of people, dominant) hand on the steering wheel at all times and uses their left hand to change gear.
Cyclists and horse riders typically mount from the left hand side. This places them on the kerb when driving on the left --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------- I know it doesn't make sense if most people are driving on the right side, but it is kind of interesting that driving with RHD would actually be safer

I’m not going to argue which side is safer to drive on but having the steering wheel on the opposite side from what is the norm in a given country has to create a very unsafe driving condition. I doubt that many countries would allow cars to be sold to the masses with the opposite side steering wheel set up from their norm.

My first and only cruise (so far) was to the US Virgin Islands but I didn’t rent a car, we took the bus cruises when we went anywhere when we left the boat.
As for driving off a cliff, I thought we were going to do just that, a time or two, when we were in St. Thomas or maybe it was St. Croix. Sorry, you geography buffs, a cliff is a cliff to me and going over either one, in a retired school bus that the ‘old farmer’ probably beat up in his day, would have been the same to me.
Mrs. j had to hold my hand for the whole trip. It seemed like only the men on the bus had the same look of terror that I had. The ladies were saying, “WOW, would you look at that”? Which I swear gave the driver more encouragement to get even closer to the edge.

no sales story, but I did attend a driving event (for the X3) at the BMW dealer today. Pretty low key, no real sales pressure. Got a walk around, AWD demo, then turned loose to drive as many X3 models as I wanted (they also had an MB, audi and Lexus on hand to compare to, but I did not bother with those).
at the end, filled out a survey and got a spiffy BMW insulated travel mug. That I could use.
Been there, done that. I am not sure how I survived to tell about it. Rome was an adventure too. No lanes, no rules, just do what you have to in order to keep advancing.
My son and I went to a similar BMW event for the new 5er. We drove an E Class and a 535i. My son said the only thing he liked about the Mercedes was the fact that the Sirius subscription hadn't expired- which meant that I listened to Hip Hop Nation for the entire test drive...
