They all say there is a trap door to open & the drain bolt is there. I can't find the drain bolt trap door where everybody says it is. I see a large steel plate with 4 bolts attached to it...is this it? Do I have to drop this steel pan to get to get to the drain plug?

The police department is in big trouble as well. They arrested a citizen without a warrant - even though the dealership said they would pursue a warrant - no warrant was issued. The police had no evidence a crime had been committed.
Next, the dealership will lose the lawsuit. According to the charges made by the buyer's attorney, the dealership did not act in good faith - claiming a theft had taken place when it had not.
I would slap a lawsuit on the police department as well. False arrest is a civil tort as well. If the police had investigated the allegations before arresting a. Innocent man, an arrest would not have been made.
That's my opinion!

I have that in my Buick LaCrosse CXS but last week and again yesterday a warning came up stating "Service AFL lamp." Don't know what that means exactly but I hope the lights are not stuck in the wrong position. Since I haven't done any night driving recently I can't determine what type of adjustment is needed, if any.
AFL means "adaptive front lighting"!

Thanks for the suggestion, but, no, a Miata is one car I wouldn't want in Florida. Some reasons are;
A convertible is only good on some days, ideal conditions, not too sunny and not windy.
My wife is really sensitive about sunlight, and lots of other people are trying to avoid too much sun these days.
With a lot of those Florida drivers you want some protection...mainly some metal around you, the more the better.
In Florida you are always going places with other people you know. The Passat has a huge amount of room in the backseat.
Miata's are too low for getting in and out of, the older you get.
No room for Gigi the dog, she would have to be on the passengers lap.
In theory, it sounds good having a fun car in Florida, in real life, it isn't as ideal as it sounds. Now a Porshe, maybe........

Interesting, kyfdx, my transition lenses "do get darker" when I am driving. Not as dark as when I am outdoors, but they do "tint" darker when in front seat. I checked the front windshield, and it says it reduces UV rays by 50%, but the side and rear windows reduce UV by 95%. I do notice that the front windshield is "lighter" in tint than the side or rear windows, so there must be a reason why the protection in the front is not as great.
BTW, I dropped off the car at the tintshop about 40 minutes ago - they gave me a loaner car to use for the afternoon until the car is finished.
I looked at the film colors available in the Crystalline, and after putting the tints up against the windows of the car, I selected their "middle" tint, which is much lighter than the standars 3M tints. It reduces heat by 60%, UV by 99%, allows 65% of the light into the car, which is much more than regular tints allow.
I should have it back this afternoon and we'll see how it looks when driving. Since I don't drive a heck of a lot at night "maybe once every other month", I took a little darker tint than the clear tint. They do have a light gray and clear tint, but after looking at the tint in the car, I selected the middle color.
As for cost, the Crystalline is $350 + tax, and is guaranteed for the life of the car for both installation and color changes, bubles, streaks, etc. This tint shop has been in business for 30 years, and they just moved in to their own building.
If I had selected 3M color fast tints, the cost would have been $175.00 + tax, so this Crystalline is twice as costly.
There is no metallic substances in this tint, which allows better reception for Cell Phones and FM HD radio. Satellite radio is not affected because the antenna for that is on the roof of the car in the back along with Mbrace.

Don't tint that Passat unless you go to that clear one Mike talked about and then didn't buy. Tint doesn't do anything for me. I'm always amazed at the number of cars up here that have illegal tint but they just drive along.
Me too! Some of those guys have tint that is so dark you can hardly make out that there is a person in the car, but, I can just make out a guy with his baseball cap on backwards.
Glad you got the message before...I don't miss too many but some days just get too busy. I used to think it was a bit of a joke when people retired and said, I don't know how I used to get things done when I was working.
Well, I am 80% retired, and I have no idea how I used to get things done when I was working. By the time you go to a doctor or dentist, get your license, find out about insurance, read the newspaper, check the bank account, look at the stockmarket, post a few posts, the day is shot!

I agree. We have an eighty gallon gas water heater because of the hot tub in the master bath. Neither of us does the hot tub thing...can't stand those things. Still, I guess we won't ever run out of hot water. We can take showers, wash clothes, and run the dishwasher all at the same time.

That re-griping call doesn’t bother me as much as some of the others. I know they try to make it easy for the refs as to when did the receiver have full control, so any movement is considered lack of control and a no-catch. Maybe the rules committee will change that ruling like they did when a ball is clearly in the hands of the player but it also touches the ground. Now it’s a catch but a few years ago it wasn’t. Send in your gripe to the NFL and see if they make the change. :shades: But remember they’re the boss and they always get what they want.
I hate it when football people are in control, like the power a coach has over his players. Back in my high school days we played both ways. I was a halfback on offense and a linebacker on defense. Needless to say, you get a little tired doing it that way. After running the ball for three straight plays (yes, I did get a couple first downs) the coach lets me come out when I motioned for a replacement. OK, I’m now standing next to him because that’s where he wanted you when you came out. He didn’t usually let you sit down on the bench unless you were hurt. After a few plays as I’m about to go back in the right guard comes limping to the side line. The coach said, “get in there at right guard jmonroe”. :surprise: I said, “coach, I’m a halfback not a guard”. He said, “get the hell in there NOW. You’re any damn thing I want you to be”. That was the last time I tried to tell my coach what position I played.

It occurs to me that we haven't heard much from Bradd these last few days - coincedentally, the Yankees got swept by the Tigers.
I guess $198M doesn't buy what it used to.

Their hitting was awful against Baltimore & worse against Detroit. Once Jeter got hurt, I knew it was over. He's the Captain.
Everyone likes to blame A-Rod because of his large contract. Well, you can't blame him because he didn't play. Swisher, Cano, & Granderson stunk.
You'll see the payroll start to shrink more and more in the next few years. They see the light that signing big name free agents isn't the way to build a championship team.
I wish the Detroit Tigers & their fans the best of luck

Well, I got the car back and they did a great job. From the outside, the tint looks darker than it actually is. When I was driving home, I had no difficulty seeing behind me or in the sideview mirrors.
The front windshield has the clear tint installed and you cannot tell there is a tint on the windshield - clear as glass! But the heat reduction and UV 99% reduction will have a real impact on the car's interior temperature, especially during the summer. Right now, it's 88 degrees out and very humid. We still have another 30 days of heat, but the temperatures and humidity will be dropping nicely during those 30 days. By mid November, we are usually in the low 80's to upper 70's, I can't wait. We've had one of the hottest summers in history along with the wettest summer in history.
According the 3M, I am supposed to realize a $200 a year savings in gas because the air-conditioner will not be working as hard as it was before the tint. I guess that remains to be seen/realized. Besides, I am not going to sit down with a calculator and try to figure out my savings by month, day, or even year.
Once the tinting sets and dries up (he said in this heat, probably by Sunday), I should be able to tell better the reaction to the heat during the day and the visibility at night.

Fezo, if you lived down here or in the desert southwest, you really don't have much of a choice other than to add tint to the windows. The only reason I added tint was to protect the interior of my new car. The air-conditioning system in my Benz is phenominal, so I don't worry about heat too much - but I don't drive in the afternoons or evenings much, just mornings. So the car sits in the hot sun most of the day. That is why I added the tint.
All I need to do now is check out my visibility at night, which I expect will be fine since it is a lighter than average tint.

I really liked Tallahassee. In addition to extended warm season even though not year-round summer it had hills!
Yes, fezo, most people are unaware of the fact that northwest Florida is hilly and even has ravines along I-10. It's northeast Florida and all the way south to Key West that is as flat as a pancake. The highest point in southeastern Florida is a land dump about 5 miles from me that is about 400 foot high and growing. Otherwise, a good tsunami would flood the entire state with the exception of northwest Florida.

Funny you should mention that, *jmonroe! Last Saturday night we had my Dad's surprise party which required me to wear my good black shoes. The had been in my closet and were in need of a good polishing. Unfortunately, I had no black or neutral shoe polish in the house. I even went to my neighbors and they had none.
My neighbor down the catwalk mentioned to me that I could use any wax. I looked in my closet and found an old can of Simonize paste wax that I used to polish my car with. I opened the can and was surprised it was still good. So...I polished my shoes with Simonize car wax - buffed them up - and they looked like a professional shoe-shiner did the polishing.
In conclusion, when in a bind, use Simonize!

You can be like a quarter-back. A person who moves south to Florida, finds it too hot, and moves a quarter of the way back to North Carolina.
Or, my ideal, would be to have a condo in New England for the summer, a place in Florida for the winter.

So this begs the question, why are car prices so high? Home values have fallen by one third or more and in the four years since the financial collapse wages have stagnated at 2.5% increase. The only industries to defy this logic are auto and petroleum. It seems that they defy basic common sense or economics cannot explain this phenomenon.
Boardies, would you weigh in on this and try to explain why auto prices haven’t taken a price hit like other industries? I don’t know what the average transaction price for autos is but I would venture to guess it is close to $30K
Mmmmmm, now that sounds perfect!

Supply and demand. House prices fall because people can't keep up their payments, they walk away, too many houses on the market, prices fall. Another factor is the house is already built, so there isn't a labor component.
Cars are different. Demand is off slightly, but still pretty strong. There is still a bottomline price that a car costs to make, materials and labor. Price can't drop below that level.
In some ways though, I think car prices have fallen. I paid $15K for a 92 Cavalier. For slightly more, you can get a 2013 Dodge Dart, with airbags, more electronics, rear camera, navigation, much better car. That is due to more efficiency, cost cutting, competition etc.
Just some random thoughts................
2017 MB E400 , 2015 MB GLK350, 2014 MB C250
Under ideal conditions that is the desired outcome. But how do you explain to builders of new construction, who were expecting say $500K for a new home and get an offer of $350K, if that much.
Like cars, the new construction includes, material, labor and overhead; yet the builder cannot recover these costs because of adverse economic conditions. If we are supposed to be in a recession, why should auto makers be the only ones able to hold prices stable and in some instances even raise them?
I remember using that stuff on my father’s car when I was a kid and it was a chore. IIRC, Simonize was the first brand to come out with a cleaner and wax combined, it was called Vista. That stuff was just as brutal to use as its older brother.
If you want another good use for Simonize paste wax you can put it on furniture.

I’ve asked myself the same question and I think it’s because people held onto their cars longer than they usually did. So, the time came when they had to replace their aging unreliable cars. Plus, I think the people who are working can afford to buy a car easier than they can buying a larger home. While they can afford the going price of a larger home because the market is down, they can’t afford to take the hit of their present home being down too.
I work with quite a few young people who got out of their apartments a lot faster than they thought they would after graduating and bought new homes because the price was right and the interest rates were even better. They didn’t have an albatross around their necks.
jmonroe
'15 Genesis V8 with Ultimate Package and '18 Legacy Limited 6 cyl
Cost of building a car is not too flexible. House prices are more flexible, for example, new houses are competing for sales against resale houses, and resale house prices can fall alot, because these houses were built at way below todays prices.
Keep in mind too, labor costs for a car are pretty fixed. Labor is the single largest cost. House builders aren't very unionized, if they can't get the price they want they have to drop the price to recover their investment.
In many areas, and Florida is a perfect example, home prices go through boom and bust cycles. When houses are in demand builders do well, when they are in a bad cycle prices drop and builders lose their shirts.
What I wonder about in this recession is why some restaurants are packed.
I think the thing to remember is 85% of the working population is still working, and though many are under employed, many others are making more than ever. The proof is that luxury cars are selling very well right now.
Just a thought too, if your car is breaking down you probably have to find a way to replace it. With a house, if you have a home to live in, you don't have to buy another one...they don't wear out and need replacing like a car.
