I used the complimentary Fusion razor I received from Gillette this morning for the first time (been using Mach III's for years) and found I got a closer shave. You are right, Richard, shaving the upper lip and below the nose is difficult, but if you are careful, it works fine.

If I can get 25% more shaves out of this new Fusion than I got out of the Mach III, it would be a break-even point in terms of cost. But the shave seems to be much smoother.

Stick, you're not alone on the electric shaver. I buy a Norelco or Remington triple at about 8 month intervals buying on sale and storing the next one for later. At $28 not worth it to replace blades. Just toss it. Last one (mistake) was corded. Oops, now I check for cordless.

    @sterlingdog said:You're exactly right oldfarmer

99 cents for 10! Using the driver income averaging schedule it works out to 10 cents a blade.....6 shaves to a blade, or 2 cents a shave.

My Mach 3's cost about $3 a blade, divided by 14 shaves is 22 cents a shave.

Oldfarmer, I think you have found a way for me to save hundreds of dollars a year!

Wait, this is even better, 240 shaves for $28! That's 12 cents a shave, better than my Mach 3 (20 cents) but not as good as oldfarmer 2 cents).

If that safety device made it so you lived in a bad accident you would be glad you got it.

Most, if not all, of the safety devices designed to make you survive an accident have been in cars for some time now. The items mentioned on this thread (backup cameras, blind spot monitors, lane change warnings and the like) are more in tune to preventing the accident than surviving one. That and they seem to replace the attentiveness, alertness and skill of the driver.

With older drivers along with teenagers, these safety features are important. However, the "beeps, buzzes, chimes and flashing lights" can be more of a distraction than an aid in the case of the older drivers.

Of all the safety features available, the back-up camera and front and rear parking sensors are very important to older drivers. Also, lane departure and blind spot warnings are also important.

If GM is bad you should try American Airlines some time. AA has to be the most poorly run airline in America.

I'm already half way there with a full beard. I just shave under my chin and a few other strategic spots to ward off the a Grizzly Adams look. In a few years when I retire I may adopt the full Sachquach look.

Actually I use shampoo/body wash to shave in the shower. I figured out long ago the shave cream was a gel so it would hold moisture and its detergents would break through the oils on the beard to allow the water to soften the hair. All that's needed is time for the detergent to breakdown the oils on the hair.

Somehow I'm thinking this is too much information!

Yes, it is possible to shave your upper lip with a 5 blade razor, but it is sort of like eating spaghetti with a spoon. You can do it, but it is messy and awkward. :'(

I think a Mach 3 has better handling and is more nimble than a Fusion for rounding curves and for getting the feel of the beard.

I own both but really prefer the Mach 3.

    Washington Post Story...

The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Dept. yesterday from the Consulate at Bergen, Norway.

Reports from fisherman, seal hunters, and explorers, all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard of temperatures in the Arctic Zone. Exploration expeditions report that hardly any ice has been met with as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes.

Soundings from a depth of 3100 meters showed the Gulf Stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, while well known glaciers have completely disappeared. Within a very few years it is predicted that the sea levels will rise so high that many coastal cities will be uninhabitable.

This report was from November 2, 1922, as reported by the AP and published in the Washington Post...91 years ago.

I think this sometimes happens when the quote you're trying to quote also has a quote in it... like Imidazol's post I'm replying to. He quoted houdini1 in his post, then added text. Then I hit quote on imidazol's post, and I got zippo. I'm thinking there's a personal setting that fixes that, but I'll try it first so I don't give out bad info.

Please make a note that sometimes if there is a quote AND new text in someone's post, the new text in the OP's post will copy the new text into the Quote box and sometimes it won't. E.g., when I replied to Houdini's post earlier, his new text showed up in the box; the quote he had did not carry in. But I couldn't get that to happen again. It won't work now when I'm trying to quote your post.

I originally had highlighted the new text in Houdini's post intending to paste it into the new Quote box. But his new text had already copied in.

Sometimes it quotes the whole message, sometimes nothing. This time I pasted the part of the quote I wanted. But, with my new tablet copying and pasting is not easy, so I'll just have to do what I can when I take it to the UK in 2 weeks. Or, maybe Kirstie will have it fixed by then! :D
