edited March 2014 in Chevrolet
Just got my TPW of 4/3/00 for my 2500 LS shortbed. Ordered from dealer 1/7/00, but then took until 2/29 for dealer to get allocation.

I'm going home tonight and cleaning out the garage!

Congrats on finally placing your order. If you got a 1500, you shouldn't have anywhere near the wait I did for the 2500. Seems like they are finally really cranking out the 1500's. Even if your dealer doesn't get an allocation tomorrow, it should come pretty quick.

I really haven't followed all of your posts about the exact vehicle you ordered. Are you getting any kind of bed camper cover or tonneau cover? What about bedliner? If so, what brands?
  • wight1wight1 Member Posts: 218
Well, you could have a problem with those tires. If it slows you down, just take whatever you can get and put on the 265's after you get the truck.

On my first truck years ago, I didn't get a bed cover. On my second truck, I got one, and after having it, I'd never own another truck without one - they are really nice for keeping your stuff dry and safe (well maybe a little safer) from midnight discounts. I'm looking at either Leer, Raven or ARE tops.

I've also been researching spray in liners. What made you pick the Rhino liner over other brands?
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
About the caps i have one on my S-10 now and im not a big fan of em and the toppers u have to leave open while hauling large objects.

I picked the Rhino over the linex mainly because the service. Ive been talking to the people from rhino now for awhile and i see the rhino alot being used since i work at a lumber yard and it holds up. The dealership works with rhino they Rhino comes picks up the truck and brings it back it saves me from wasting a day before i go pick it up. Also my cousin has one on his sonoma for almost 2 yrs now hes a carpenter and its held up so far. And lastly because they sent me a $25 off coupon haha. It helps WIGHT what state do you live in just curious because they have a website for the place by me that does the liners.

Now about the tires they are gonna try and get em but after a month they are gonna call me and if i have to ill order cheaper ones and they will switch them with a truck on the lot that has the ones i want. I can wait though.

Sorry if some didnt make sense i was in a hurry and typed very fast.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and girls, gather around for a tale of "You gotta be kiddin me!".
    On January 17th I ordered:
    1500 LT ext cab sb fleetside 4x4 Z71, 5.3 V-8 ,
auto trans, autotrac, locking rear, Alum wheels,
P265 tires, tinted windows, 3.73 axle, flares
and the trailering pkg. I tracked the vehicle to the point where is was in transit last week. Today I called the dealer and He said, Your truck came in on Friday 03/10, unfortunately, we sold it to someone else on Saturday 03/11.
I am not sure what course of action I can take, but I am very interested in hearing from anyone that can site a similar situation and what the dealer or GM did to rectify the situation. thanks in advance. bmc..
  • abberaabbera Member Posts: 24
BMC - Guess you need to work with a better dealer!

Mine should be here this week and I talked to the dealer, the new car prep guy and my buddies in the hood. I should get mine without a problem! Need to loan you a friendly persuader?

Just kidding. I still win that $1 bet because yours came in before mine!

Anybody wanna buy a used 91 GMC?
  • billemacbillemac Member Posts: 4
You better get down to that dealer and make sure he still has yours. I'm glad to hear that yours is in, that means you weren,t the guy that bought mine. enjoy your vacation. bmc..

You lucky mother! Months and months of talking about it, and factory order gets accepted on first opportunity after you finally pulled the trigger!

Well, congrats again, and welcome to the "short-time waiting" club.

One thing to note, shows you can't always believe what your hear about ordering times and delays. They almost had you convinced you were in for a long wait because of the tire "problem". Looks like there was nothing but rumor.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Are in limited producation it still can be held up but for now i have the green light

You guys getting them in in six weeks, were driving me crazy....Everyone else hang in there st this point I would say it was worth the wait...

I ordered last week from Dealer in Seattle. Also requested P265-WOL. Called Dealer and he told me order was submitted. Although the dealer could not give me an exact "TPW" date, does this mean my order was aleast accepted? I'm going to stop by the dealer of Sat. and get the order number and tehn call that 800 number for Chev until I can get a TPW. Since this is first time I ordered, what else to I need to watch out for?
  • 87lion87lion Member Posts: 166
then your order has been accepted by GM. It took me about 4wks to get a TPW.
  • dickydodickydo Member Posts: 2
    Sadly it looks like I
    currently hold the record
for wait time on an order.
    I placed my order on
    9/23/99 for a Y2K 2500 LT
    Ext.cab, LB, 2wd, 4door
    with 3:73 gears, locking
    diff.,Aux. battery, tow
    hooks, HD suspension and
    HD tow pkg from Denooyer
    Chev. in Colonie NY.
    Called Cust. assist ctr.
    again today and was told
it finally has a TPW of
    3/20/00. Next week marks
    the 6 month anniversary of
    the order placement. I
    really hope it will be
    worth the wait. Will let
    you know.

Where did you get the constraint info on the tires? I read that on the www.wheels.com site, but I was told by the dealer and others that the GM order system would tell the dealer what was on constraint when they placed the order. They placed my order on March 7th, I got the order number the day after, and no constraint info.

I would have ordered with the smaller tires anyway, my wife thinks the larger tires make the truck look tough? Personally, The $365 you spend on the upgrade would go a long way at buying tires on your own. And you know what brand ect your getting. I dont want any General tires!

Called GM on the 14th and no TPW yet. My lease is up on my current vehicle in May, hope it makes it.

Came saturday march 11,2000 from the dealer. Actually the guy who puts in the orders. He tried the week before on march 7 and it wouldnt accept one of his orders for the WOL p265 tires. Gm accepted (no build date yet) my order march 14th so i guess they arent on constraint.

Wheels.com gives what is in limited production and what might be hard to get. The only think i know for sure thats on constraint is the rear slider. They quit making them for the 2000's due to what i heard was cracking. I didnt want one so i didnt care much. Bill the dealer gave me an estimate based on other trucks coming in. I got mine accepted march 14 and he told me end of may it should be here. I wont be able to get it till middle of june though if it does.

    Good luck to you

    Ryan
  • sf6sf6 Member Posts: 11
My order was submitted last week with P-265's included and was accepted. Agree with the back slider info you mentioned. Delaer told me to avoid them, as they have been cracking, and if I included, he felt GM would not accept...If you really want a slider, the dealer said add one after you take delivery. I don't plan on adding one at all.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
It seems to me that if you ordered a slider they made it without one.

Anyone here about destination charge increases? I heard its gonna be going up $25 to $690 possibly

Dickydo: You obviously didn't read what happened to Dmr3 w/DeNooyer or your just one hell of a guy to do business with them, your annoitment to Sainthood awaits you! LOL

Sf6: I had ordered mine w/the slider & order had been accepted that way but when it was built the slider was omitted, I bought aftermarket & had installed when cap was put on.

I ordered a 2500 lb lt 4x4 on February 21st. The order was accepted last week. However my dealer told me their is a shortage of rims for the LT 2500. He reported that only 500 orders per week are being accepted for the LT because of the rim shortage. The dealer thought Chevy would substitute the LS rims. He reported there were no holdups in getting the LS-2500. Dickydo-I think you have the record. The longest I have heard of is seven months-seem ridiculous. Maybe the holdup is the two wheel drive. I havent seen any of those. All the LT's I have seen on the dealers lots have been 4wd.

Ordered January 12, Got order number in 3 days, Got build week of 2/26, slipped to 3/4 and was built 3/1. Arrived today, 3/16 and picked up!
Order was 2500, LS, Ext cab, 2WD, Tow, Sliding window, Polished aluminum wheels, 6.0 litre, 3 dr. Wheels were on constraint so Dealer processed (after asking) without them. 3 drs were stopped, so I got 4 door (what I really tried to order initially). Also did not get sliding window, but sounds like that was good! Everything else went well! We'll see how it comes out in long run!

Got my A.R.E. shell already on order (1 1/2 weeks ago) so should see that next week! Life is Good!
  • snitselasnitsela Member Posts: 47
One thing is for sure, If our orders are accepted by GM they have to be made before the end of the model year...no seven month waits here!

The dealer told me about the rear slider and also stated they were having problems with the fender flares. I did not want either, so no problem here.

I did some checking on the tires. BF Goodrich All=Terrain tires in the 265 wol would run around 140 a pop. So, I asked a local (tire) dealer about trading in the factory tires (245 all-seasons). He stated they would give me $230 on a trade. If the larger tires are an issue with the factory, you could just order the standard tires and save yourself the $360 plus the $230 for the trade in and go buy yourself a real nice set of tires.

Everyone needs to stop ordering that z71 package. I would bet you that more than half the people that order that option never take there truck off the road! That cool sticker does it for em I guess. Me, I ordered the HD suspension so I could get the trailer pkg.

Per Ray T.s advice, I am calling every Monday to pester GM about a TPW. They seem like they know the drill, the customer service gal even referred to the person she gets her production info by name (did not catch it last time).

I was thinking real serious about an F-150 SuperCrew. Local dealer has one on the lot and its been there for a month. I am a chevy guy, but the four full size doors looked promising.
4.5 ft bed is useless though.

    Sorry for the Ford Talk!

A thing i will do. Probably a month after i get it nothing serious some trails and hills and sand and a lil mud if it rains but i definitly will do it. I got a Z71 hitch today too bill. I love that sticker haha better than that 4x4 sticker.

Whats with the fender flares? let me know any info u have. Thanks

    Ryan
  • rayt2rayt2 Member Posts: 1,208
You said you ordered the HD suspension so you could get the trailer pkg. I don't remember seeing that requirement. I had to order HD suspension in order to upgrade my tires.

Hang in there for the Chevy..NO FORDS! you won't be sorry.

    Hello Everybody,
I put my order in for a 2000 Chevy Silverado Sportside LS yesterday. I have been reading some of your posts and have a couple of questions.
    1) What is a TPW?
2)I ordered the sliding rear window and the deep tinted solar ray glass. You can not order the deep tinted glass without ordering either the sliding window or the window with the defogger. If GM is canceling the sliding rear window option if you order it, are they still allowing you to get the deep tinted glass on the rest of the truck or are they canceling that option along with the slider?
I will appreciate any input any of you can give me.
    Thanks,
    NB2169
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
TPW = target production week. You will get one if these 2-3 wks after the order is put into the computer and is accepted by gm.

Tinted windows can be ordered without the slider or rear defogger. Who told you this? Its the wrong information. I did it and most trucks i see have the tint with no rear defogger or slider. The rear slider is not being produced anymore for the 2000 model year due to cracking. Your truck will 99% likely be built without it. Also the deep tint is only on the rear ext cab windows and rear window not the passenger/driver side or front window.

Hope this helps keep asking if you have any questions. I oredered mine sat march 11 and gm accepted it this past wk march 14. Ive been talking to my salesman since august. If you have any other questions and i dont know ill find out for ya im sure someone else in here will know we all are or have been through the process.

    Ryan

Oh yea what options did you get? 4 wheel 2 wheel? Ext cab? Let us know
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
sorry didnt elaborate on TPW it is given and then thats the week they most likely will build your truck give or take a few wks too.

(CONFIDENCE) I might be young and i know i dont know it all but with these damn trucks i know pretty much everything except for some technical information ive been through alot the past hmmm 8 months (damn long time to be shopping for a vehicle).

I ordered mine with tinted glass and slider. Got it yesterday minus the slider but with tinted glass. May install slider later, but I like the looks without!

If you are that young Ryan, you are damn lucky to be ordering a $30K plus truck, are you replacing your housing with it?

The Slider/Tinted window thing sounds fishy...like the something a dumb assed dealer would say! They are always working the angles.
NB: Did he tell ya you must order the 5.3 to get the automatic trans also?

Go to www.gmbuypower.com It does not lie! The excact options and combinations are listed and you can build your truck from the ground up. If GM will not let you configure it that way on the website, it cannot be ordered that way... and vice versa. The dealer I ordered my truck from used a system identical to the gmbuypower site. In fact, the printout looks so much the same that they are probably using the same file-server. We just dont see all the good stuff on the internet site because we are not dealers.

To Ray: The buypower site will not let you pick the towing package unless you upgrade the suspension...this was confirmed by the dealer.

Back to the Youngster! Be careful you dont wrap the new truck around a big oak tree. You know the young guys all balls and no brains...no wonder you are in love with the Z71 sticker!

    Bill
  • snitselasnitsela Member Posts: 47
    Ryan:

Do you get more towing capacity using the Z71 hitch or does it just have a Z71 sticker on it?

    Hahahahahah!
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
No trees where im going its all open sand and hills only thing bad i might do is roll it down a hill not a good thing.

And no im not replacing my housing. its great living with your parents and having just a visa bill. Also i work 2 jobs and go to school full time. Oh and in case you are wondering my age i am 20.

Its a cover for your receiver. It goes in the little hole under your bumper (towing pkg) and you then put a lock through it to keep it in place. Makes the whole disappear and u see a chrome oval with a Z71 logo in the middle

    Ryan
  • snitselasnitsela Member Posts: 47
Keeps the hole from rusting also I bet. My father in law has a draw tite hitch on an old van and he left the receiver in it for a long time. He wanted to take it out one day and it was rusted tight.

Ryan: I am 32 and I will be maxing my financial situation to get the silverado, but have you looked at used trucks lately. Like I would buy a 1997 with 40,000 miles for $20K plus! Does not hurt to have wifey's support on the purchase though! I suppose I will be hauling lots of landscaping crap and flowers home with it...should have bought that z71 package!

    Bill
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Never even looked at a used truck. Would never consider it. Shoot i wouldnt even take a truck off the lot i want it straight from the factory so its mine and only mine. Maybe im wierd but i worked hard and saved up pretty much everything and im gonna go all out. My first real vehicle why not?

Bill you should have stayed single. haha its the way to go but i know after i get the truck ill probably try and meet someone and start something serious. Shoot then i can work on saving up for a tahoe to haul around the kidds

Yukon Denali...Yukon Denali... Test drive both and you will agree.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
HMMM gmc never came into play i didnt say Yukon i said tahoe. Ill stick with chevy denali all hype not worth the extra $$$. Rather spend that on accessories

    Ryan
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
test drove both and being Chevy fan tried to lean towards tahoe. The grill is too much Chevy identical to Silverado as is the interior. Denali rode way better interior was way better than tahoe lt. Just my opinion. Price difference was about $3k. Funny when looking at Edmunds...there are no options for Denali. I guess you could say fully loaded. Silverado and Denali won't fit in garage actually could but I couldn't get out. So...Denali stays outside..Silverado inside..had no problem deciding. Sorry about being off topic. I'll try and find the Denali postings.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Keep talking its cool i dont care if u talk about other brands or models all vehicles are good

    Ryan

I like the tahoe cause it looks like the silverado i guess i get ur point why have em both when they look the same

I talked to the dealer and no TPW yet. Apparently the shortage of rims for LT 2500 is holding up production. Monday will be four weeks from date of order. Dealer is looking for something in the pipeline or with another dealer. I would rather have my ordered truck-I think.

Finally picked up Truck on 3/17/00! YIPPEE!!! So far have ONLY driven 160 miles and love everything about it...and here comes the BIG BUT,.. don't experience any vibration at 50-65, but have noticed a small shudder from 27-35 mph. Being an engineer, did some analytical trials and found that it doesn't matter if using accelerator or just coasting...shudder remains the same, and ALWAYS between 27-35 mph. This tells me it's probably not transmission, but something to do with tires/rims/balancing/suspension(?), etc... Will get it to dealer soon to check this out. Postings on vibration have given me good ammunition to throw at service department as far as potetnial fixes. WIll be interesting if they have heard of a Chevrolet 'fix' to be announced soon as the postings suggest.

Specs: 1500LS, 4 door, 5.3L, 3.73 axle, HD suspension, tow package, aluminum rims, 255/70R16 BSW tires (GENERALS...uuuuggghhhh!).

Can't imagine it being something other than tires and/or suspension system. It looks like tires may be overinflated, but that's just me looking to see if they are somewhat rounded instead of flat on tread surface... Ohter than the 'shudder', rest of truck is GREAT!!! And the shudder isn't enough to shake steering wheel (YET)or spill a drink...just a perceptible 'feel' when going between 27-35 mph.

AND oh yeah, FOURTH DOOR WAS WORTH THE WAIT...tons more room than DODGE RAM, FORD F150 or TOYOTA TUNDRA in the back...WOW!

I just called GM and received the Target Production Week of April 3rd. Does anyone have an educated guess as to when I could expect to see the truck at the dealership?

    Ray T.

That Indigo Blue looks very cool! The color of my baby also.

    Ryan.

Only problem is I am a Z71 Wannabee, ya know I could not afford the extra $100 to get that awesome sticker. Just the plain jane 4x4 one. Oh well, I had better stay on the road.

Bedmat, Molded Mud Flaps, Wheel Locks, Protective film, and a 2x6 cut to fit accross the back of the bed and I am set! Boy am I going to have fun hauling those groceries.
