The price quoted by these two dealers was $795 and $840 for a 6/100K/$0 top of the line plan for my TCH. I had intentions of buying the Toyota extended warranty from one of these dealers, but my 'local' dealer stepped up to the plate and we agreed upon a price when I informed them of my findings..in the end to meet the competition, the dealer came down $30 and I went up $30 to end at $845.
As much of a 'car buff' as I am, I had never thought of 'shopping around' on a mfg's warranty. I thought the price was the price, but I was obviously wrong!
You can save hundreds of dollars on the top of the line extended warranty over the MSRP.
The finance guy must get a huge bonus for closing the sale with the Ext.Warr. as he was very persistant on me buying one. He kept coming down on his price so much, as I just sat there, stuck on knowing that I could buy it elsewhere!
He finally came down to $1000 for the platinum package, which was more than the superstore, BUT it is all done together, and financed with the car, and I am assured that this is in fact a toyota warranty. IF it had turned out that the superstore warranty had NOT been true toyota, my husband would have been fit to be tied.
I wish now that I would have know for positive and had the printed paperwork with me at the time I picked up my car, but .... live and learn. That's why we share right here, huh?
So you paid extra for some unknown length of warranty and then financed it to boot??
Toyota and the dealer luv ya!!!!!
We are satisfied with our purchase, thanks again.
You are supposed to contact your selling dealer for all repair work. If this is not possible you must contact the administrator PRIOR TO PROCEEDING WITH REPAIRS. Toyota 1-800-228-8559.
This is all per the Agreement language.
At Toyotafinancial.com it says,

When your vehicle needs servicing, take it to any participating Toyota dealer throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Typical dealer crap, but sounds even worse in the Peoples Republic of Canada.
Try Corporate Toyota to straighten the dealer out!!!!!!!!!
I live in CA where the warranty on the HSD is supposedly 10 yrs 150K miles. If this understanding is incorrect please tell me what the correct warranty # are. My true concern in with the hybrid components and I think that the length of the warranty on that is sufficien to comfort me. Can anyone shed some light on this murky area.
Like most insurance if every body NEEDED it then it would have to be a lot more expensive. Insurance just spreads the cost out to everyone so that the one who needs it does not bear all the cost.
Just curious, did you ask the sales, finance, or service folks about the warranty issue?
If you didn't ask the Service Manager, why don't you stop in for an oil change, touchup paint, price some mud-guards or something. Then ask him about the US warranty.
You may get a different answer than the one from sales/finance.
I ended up buying the warranty from the Kansas folks. It is the real Toyota Platinum warranty. No muss, no fuss, no bother.
YMMV!
What is you opinions of getting one, and what level, for this car? What about this maintenance plan I hear about?
I will be picking up my car later this week, so any input that I can check out ahead of time will be very appreciated.
FYI - I drive around 12-15,000 miles a year, although that may change in 3 years after retirement (higher) or if I get a second car(lower - convertible for summer).
Thanks in advance.
You can contact me directly through here....check my profile, and I will be happy to tell you of my experiences with all types of extended warranties. I use Warranty Direct, check out the power-wrap + one.
But I would buy a third part one that wrapped-around Toyota's longer powertrain warranty, for all the high tech and emissions stuff. You can get one like that and it will give you coverage out to 6 or 7 years, and 125,000 miles.
And contrary to what some people think, it is always cheaper to buy such a warranty in the first month than later, no matter that the original warranty has years to go.
A previous post mentioned an article avbout how many of these warranty companies go out of business. Something like the top 10 of 10 years ago are no longer in business. They are paper companies and giving them $600 rather than Toyota $1000 may not be all that great of a financial benefit 4 years into a 7 yr/100,000 warranty.
The one I bought on my Murano offered true bumper to bumper coverage for 7 years or 125,000 miles, and wrapped around the extended powertrain warranty of Toyota. I paid about $1200 for it, with a $50 deductible. The price doesn't bother me as I have always gotten it back on re-sell, as people prefer, and have more confidence buying, when you have one. All reputable companies allow you to transfer it to a new owner.
A third-party extended warranty doesn't make any difference at the dealer. They pay for covered repairs via a national MasterCard account. And you can have the repairs done at any authorized shop in the nation, not just a Toyota dealer.
Warranties written to show what they will cover are always, in my experience, far less inclusive than those who do not. It is also wise to purchase one that does not require you to bring it to a specific dealer, or even only to a Toyota dealer, as opposed to one that allows any authorized repair facility to do the work.
Many extended warranties can save you money by "wrapping around" the already longer mechanical warranty from Toyota, and only extends the normal bumper to bumper to match the powertrain/mechanical one.
Also for all those women and men who can't or don't want to ...it may also be a good bet.
...but most of all one would expect a Toyota dealer would do a good job with the right oil and filters.

I agree with you. We were talking simply price, which most using this forum do.
It has been a lot easier in the past to go to a drivethru at my convenience but I have a "tires for life" deal with my dealership as long as I have them do my service.
I'm still debating if it's worth the trouble.
That was why I stopped taking those deals. I started thinking how "free" was it, if they kept me waiting in that crappy waiting room for over an hour....
Fraham, etc., just as good, certainly no worse.
My concern is if Toyota will see that you cancelled the warranty and won't let you then turned around and buy it again a month later.
I was wondering if you've had luck purchasing another extended warranty. I'm in the same position. I purchased my car and paid out the nose for the extended warranty from the dealer. A few days later, I canceled the warranty in hope of buying one from somewhere else cheaper.
Have you been successful in doing this by chance?
Thanks!
Heath
my local dealer wanted 1650. Midwest said I would get official papers from Toyota direct 2 or 3 weeks in the meantime they would mail me a receipt from the charge on my credit card. The folks at Midwest were very helpful
Is the warranty offered via dealerships in other areas of the US from a different Toyota-affiliated insurer?
Thanks for your help!
Would you post the result of your extended warranty purchase please?
Is it from Totyta and any issue with it.
Thanks
Thanks for your thoughts, though!
Dealer A: $680 for 5/60K platinum, 0 deductible. Pricey...yes but it comes with a money back guarantee. That is should there be No warranty claim on the car for the warranty period, I would get all $680 back. Supposedly, they have a certificate with the dealer stamp. This sounds like a great deal to me, but is this a scam? Anyone else with such an offer?
Dealer B: Prepaid premium maintenance service is $1075 for 4/55K which covers both 5000 mile oil changes and the 15,30,45 K service. According to the dealer, the 15,45K service will cost $199 currently and the 30K will cost $399.
What are people really paying for the big maintenance? Are these realistic numbers?
Thanks!
A: What's covered? The car comes with a 3/36K general warranty and 5/60K powertrain coverage already (with hybrid components covered longer).
Yep, between years 3 & 4 something not covered might go wrong, but it's unlikely to be anything major, since most major stuff is still covered. And if it's something small, you then have a choice to file a claim and forfeit the refund, or pay up. If you get your money back, their profit comes from having use of your money for 5 years.
No scam here, but are you being protected against what you presumably fear, a large repair bill? I don't see it.
B: I would review the TCH's recommended service schedule. There are no big maintenance items at 15-30-45K. Other than changing the cabin and engine air filter at 30K, all the services are little more than an oil change and tire rotation. My dealer charges $28 for an oil change. I'll do the tire rotation every other oil change.
I've seen some pay 1000+ for this but I thought it was for a much longer period. My 15K and 30K services did not cost $199.
