I took my new LR2 to Iowa this past weekend and everyone loved it. I averaged between 22-23mpg. The best mileage was observed driving at a constant speed around 60mph, but once you increased it to 70-75mph cruising along the interstate it dropped to around 22. I peaked at 24mpg at the slower speed but who goes 60 mph on the freeway? LOL I also uploaded a few photos I took along my ride of my new LR2. Feel free to check them out. So far I'm really enjoying the LR2. My only complaint is when having the drivers seat to far up, my right leg/knee rest against the center console and becomes very uncomfortable, so I have to then slide the seat all the way back. BTW - I'm 5'11. :P
Took my LR2 on it's first road trip this weekend. About 500 miles. Awesome. Very comfortable inside, very smooth and quiet, with loads of acceleration to get around annoying truckers. Handles like a dream. Lots of room to spread out inside and haul cargo too. I have about 1200 miles on it so far, and I am getting about 18.2mpg. Since I bought a $40,000 car and am still cheap, I have been using the 87 octane fuel. I put 89 in it for the trip and will probably do so from now on.
I hear all of you about the phone frustration. I had a phone that didn't work, sold it, got a Treo 700p, and disconnected it this weekend because everyone I talked to through the car couldn't hear me. Again, $40,000 for a vehicle with bluetooth, and my phone doesn't work right with it? I may take it to the dealer and let them play with it a little. Overall, still really happy with the SUV.
I've been noticing that phones with BlueTooth version 2.0 tend to work more reliably with the LR2... the Sanyo M1 I bought last week has version 1.2 -- it pairs great, call quality is excellent, and it syncs the phone book fine, but it doesn't show anything for recent dialed, missed calls, or received calls. The M1 is a little bulky for me anyway (not as easy to slip into my back pocket as my old A900), so I'm going to exchange it as soon as I hit the "Post My Message" button on this post ... I stopped by the Sprint store the other day and tested the Samsung M610, which has Bluetooth 2.0, and it seemed to be fully compatible -- paired immediately, transferred phone book, and I made sure all the other call lists were accurate. I'll let you guys know what I find out.
btw - you should be able to look up your phone on www.phonescoop.com to find out what version of bluetooth it has. If you need any help finding it, let me know and I'll be happy to help.
1. The M1 is a little too bulky for me. I carry my phone around in my back pocket, and the M1 is thicker than I would've liked. Then again, my previous phone was an A900 (Blade), so I was kinda spoiled with having a thin phone. If you're used to a regular sized phone, the M1 would probably seem small.
2. The M1 has limited bluetooth functionality with the LR2. Here's a list of what works and doesn't work:
Works: - Pairing - Phone book synchronization - All phone book features such as scrolling through to locate a contact and dialing them, contact recognition on incoming call, searching phone book, etc. - Direct dialing using keypad
Doesn't work: - Recently dialed (i use this a lot on my phone, and using it through the car with the steering wheel controls is a must) - Received calls - Missed calls
If you really, really love the M1, you can certainly live with the limitations of how it works with the LR2. I just exchanged it for the Samsung M610, which is touted as being the thinest clamshell phone in the US currently. I've done a lot of research lately, and i feel pretty confident this phone will keep me happy for at least a year or so until the next big thing comes out (hehe). I also considered the new M620 (UpStage), but it had a couple significant drawbacks (inaccessible battery with short battery life unless you use the crippling battery wallet it comes with, very small main phone screen, etc).
Researching myself. So far only the SLVR is on the list that is 100% comp and sold on base. The others they sell either don't work, or not advised. but, I'll keep looking. I don't get my 2 until 1st week of june...
Anyone have pet name yet? I called my MINI Java... I guess I'll have to drive it a bit to get his/her personality down.
don't get your 2? you mean your 2 year $150 new phone allowance? if that's the case, call up customer service and tell them you'd like to cancel your service... they should transfer you to the retentions department... the folks in retentions are much much nicer to work with than the level 1 support operators that follow scripts and sometimes have attitudes . anyone in the retentions department should be glad to give you the full 2 year allowance a little early... in fact, since you'll have to sign another 2 year contract to qualify for that, make sure you talk them into some some other upgrades, like nights and weekends starting at 7pm if you don't already have that, more anytime minutes for the same price, a discount on your monthly bill, 500 free texts/month, or whatever makes it worth your while to stick with them. never hurts to ask, trust me, i've done it plenty of times and never been disappointed
btw - update on the M610.... using the brand new M610 i exchanged the M1 for today, when i tried to pull up any of the recent dialed, missed calls, or received calls lists, i just got a "Please wait..." message that never went away, so i had to keep canceling it. I'm wondering if maybe the phone has to accumulate at least 10 entries in each category before it will start working.... sounds strange, i know, but these features worked with the M610 i tested at the sprint store before I bought mine. At least we seem to be making progress -- the M1 I had before would always immediately show a message like, "No results" immediately when i tried to access those call lists... at least now it seems to be trying to pull those lists up... stay tuned
oh, and to answer your other question.... my fiance and i jokingly started calling my LR2 "Hollywood" because A) we were already feeling like stars cruising around town in it, and my fiance made the connection when she read on the window sticker that it was made in Halewood, UK. After that, it was only fitting that the car's name would be "Hollywood".
has anyone been able to pair a blackberry 7130 e with the lr2 is there any download anything i can do to pair my blackberry i felt like calling the land rover ceo today and asking him why the built a great car and can seem to get the bluetooth to work with all phones any help out there?
There are just too many different phones on the market to make them work with all of them. The blackberries in particular have problems. A few years ago you have to buy a specific multi-thousand dollar phone to have integrated handsfree operation in your car.
Things have come a long way in just a couple of years.
too bad land rover US or UK.com doesn't offer a forum section for their owners within the web site. Just think of all the great feedback that would be getting reading over these posts... :shades:
My adaptive headlight fault light came on today as well.... after I came out of a parking ramp. The dealer picked it up and said that they are not sure why this happened. As far as they could tell, everything is fine and it shouldn't happen again... What was the outcome of your experience with this?
I have just finished the first leg of a 2200 mile trip from VA to FL. My MPG is outstanding as I managed 27.8 @ 60 MPH and 26 @ 70 MPH on the interstates. I will add that I used 93 octane and the gas millage dropped when I used cheap gas (rtrack) vice Citgo. I validated the MPG at each fill-up. Overall the truck is super. I hit some hard rain in ATL and the rear fog lights came in handy. :shades: My only major issue is that there are no automatic running lights for daytime driving. Minor issues..no covered storage compartment for the little things and no rear outlet plug (I have a electric cooler) thus I am using an extension from the rear console to keep the sodas and red bull cold. I am really pleased thus far with this vehicle. :shades:
Hmm this might be a factory bug, I just had the sound system produce zero sound upon startup, which fixed itself only after restarting the engine. I think this is the 3rd such report on this board of this happening. (I wonder if it's the upgraded stereos only?) Anyone take this issue to the dealer yet?
The rest of the car was really good. I was really impressed by how good the rear visibility was.
Another question, right below the slot where you put in the 'key', there's a piece of plastic that sticks out a little bit. What is that? I tried pulling it a little bit, but it wouldn't move and I didn't want to try harder and risk breaking it. thx.
Has anyone purchased an IPOD connectivity Module ?
When I inquired at the dealer, they said it only was available for LR2's without the Technology package ( ie no NAV)
I love the sound quality from CD's and would like to see if the quality from the IPOD would be better if it was connected via the dock cable and not a headphone jack to AUX input.
I have tried to pair a 8800 and a 8100 pearl with no luck. I read a couple posts for a UK site that they might be working on a software updated for the freelander 2 since the Landrover CEO was not able to pair this blackberry to the Freelander2 during a demo/road show last year.
well, i get my lr2 1st week of june. I'll let you know...
I added the following accessories: Side Protection Molding LR002791 Running Boards LR002773 IPOD Connection Module LR002787 Front mud flaps Rear mud flaps
does anyone have the e mail address to any of the higher ups at land rover so many of my friends wont buy the land rover because it wont pair with their blackberry s these people rely on their phone for business and communication maybe if they realize they are loosing sales they will upgrade the software i am still very angry at the fact i was told my blackberry would work
Of the people who replied, has anyone taken the car in for this problem yet? Just wondering what the dealers are saying, I don't see a TSB out there on the issue yet, but the car is still new and only had two TSB's out on other issues.
I haven't taken mine in for that problem yet. It happens fairly often (once every 2-3 days) and is annoying, but at least it's something that I notice as soon as I turn on the car so I can correct it before I take off... I'm definitely going to have them take a look at it at my first scheduled service visit.
I've had my fully loaded LR2 for about a month now. I have very few complaints. I'm about at a 1000 miles with the gas mileage inching up everyday. The ride is outstanding, the seats are comfortable and the road view is second to none. The sound system (upgraded) is as good as I've had on any vehicle. Also, I agree with some of the other comments regarding the great lighting at night with the technology group upgrade. The ride is suficiently tight and I think it rides as well as the X5 and noticeably better than the X3. My main complaint is the bluetooth technology. What were they thinking here? I can't find a Treo, Blackberry, Q, or any PDA with any carrier that I can use with this system. It boggles the mind. My son's simple Motorolla phone was found by the LR2 instantly. What was Land Rover thinking when it put together this system? Buyers spending $40,000 use blackberries, Treos, etc. I'm told by Land Rover to be patient. Other phones will be added. All comments on here regarding the bluetooth connectivity issues are welcome. The only other issue (I'm not sure it's an issue yet) is the AC. On recent 72 degree days, I have had to drill the temp on Auto down to 64 to 66 to get the cabin cooled. Today, I had to take it off auto and turn the fan up for awhile. Once the cabin cooled after 5 min or so, I was able to return to auto and the system worked fine. Anyone else see this issue? I'm not sure what's going to happen when it really gets hot next month. Overall, however, I am very pleased so far. Land Rover, please resolve the Bluetooth isses quickly!
My Sony Ericsson w810i works perfectly, but my p910i doesn't. I believe that the bluetooth level of security is the reason that not all phones are working with the LR2 system. Lots of Blackberries and other smartphones are compatible with the LR3 and Range Rover system. I guess it's just a matter of time that PDAs and smartphones will be compatible with the LR2.
I have my LR2 for 6 weeks now. After about 1200 miles, the average mileages is 16. I drive mainly in town; lots of stops and goes
So far only one problem: "Engine system fault" warning light up after 3 weeks. According to the dealer I brought the car to, the car latest software has not been uploaded properly by the dealer where I bought the car from. Now with the updated software, the warning has not yet come up.
Otherwise, I really enjoy driving this car. The sound system (upgraded)is great. I use the CDs instead of the ipod. 6 discs of mp3 is equivalent to the ipod nano. That's plenty for me. The ride is a little bit soft but very comfortable. So far it still is the only LR2 in town. I definitely get notice with that Tambora Flame color. I even got a color matching car seat for my son. :P
I'm in Houston, and we've already had some 90 degree days this year. I've had problems with the heat in this vehicle as well. It always bothered me that the sunroof just had the screen and not an actuall sliding cover. Well, when it gets hot outside, the sunroof seems to let in a lot of the heat. It's really hard to get the inside of the vehicle cooled.
Kevink, what have you noticed? I'm becoming convinced more and more it is an emissions system. That's what the dealer believed over the phone, but I have yet to take it in. Also after you listen to it for awhile (sometimes it takes up to 3-4) minutes, it lets out a gush of air turning off. It also seems to do it only after longer trips. I'm going to email a video of it to my dealer to have the techs look at it, but they admitted they know very little about the LR2 right now.
I don't think it's a matter of the sunroof because we haven't broken 80 yet. By the way, I like the look of it. The AC doesn't seem to cycle on quickly enough. Within 15 to 20 min, it seems to be working fine. I have to almost jump start it...either by turning the Auto down to 64 or by turning Auto off and cycling the fan to high.
do you have it set to max ac during auto - or just set to auto, hoping the LR will set max automatically (closing the exterior air vent) based on digital temp set?
I don't have my LR2 yet, so that is why I ask. (2 weeks away)
My MINI, I would have to set the max manually even tho on auto I had turned way down to cool it off, say 62. After I set the max ac manual java cooled of very nicely - she has the screen sunroof blocker as well, no hard cover to block the sun 100%
I took it in and they said one of the adaptive lighting's motors had a "mis-build," whatever that is. My adaptive lighting still works and all, but apparently one side isn't swiveling as far as it should. They've ordered a part and are going to call when it gets here--about 7-10 days they think.
In the meantime, my light is still blinking and it's annoying--especially on a brand new car. But at least I know what it is. Now I just want the part to get here so I can get it taken care of.
So did your light turn off after a restart or anything? Mine has constantly blinked since it first came on.
My light went off after a restart, however I had them check it anyway ... they said that when they hooked it up to the computer, they saw the fault code... but no reason as to why it had happened. Written on my invoice it was noted if it happens again, they will replace the lights. We will see what happens!
HI. I am just picking up my new LR2 this week and am unable to confirm anywhere if my Blackberry 7290 will work on the LR2 Bluetooth. Do you have any sources I can look at ? Thanks
Besides that totally NOT complete list, has anyone figured out a common thread linking which phones are compatible and which aren't? I think someone mentioned if the phone has Bluetooth version 2.0 it will work? Since that list doesn't include sooo many phones, and it's a pain to call up LR every time, I was hoping somebody knows a better way to tell?
I, like many others on here, need a new phone since mine won't pair. It seems like there should be a more general rule indicating which phones will work instead of checking each phone against that master list. There are 3 phones I'm interested in and they aren't even on that list--called LR and they don't know.
I have to throw in my $.02 rant as well--not being able to link up is completely disappointing. And I am willing to buy a new phone, but then to have those options limited too...I agree with everyone who's already said, this is a $40,000 car and it can't pair with my phone. Boooo.
LR needs to fix this problem quickly. I'm a first time LR owner. It's the little things that you remember. The LR2 should be compatable with more cell phones, plain and simple.
I could not agree more. I pick up my new LR2 tomorrow. Have paid the $ 650 option for the bluetooth but my blackberry will not work ... or so they say. I have asked LR delare to contact LR UK as I am sure this can be fixed. BB works on the Range Rover....I will try to pair toimorrow and will let everyone know ..
i'm the one that mentioned the bluetooth 2.0 thing... i wouldn't think that would be a rule of thumb to go by to determine which phones will be compatible with the LR2... many phones with bluetooth versions prior to 2.0 are fully compatible. my assumption is that phones with 2.0 are *more likely* to be compatible with the LR2, *all else equal*... i've heard that most, if not all, blackberries are incompatible because they implement more security "features" around their bluetooth connectivity (regardless of which version of bluetooth they're running)...
which carrier are you with? and which phones are you considering? i've tried a handful of sprint phones with my LR2, and i'm sure others here have tried other phones, so someone is bound to be able to help you out if you let us know which phones you're looking at.
Like I have posted, I am really annoyed by the lack of actual good phones that pair with the LR2.
I am a PDA phone kind-of-guy, and I have noticed that no phone with the Windows Mobile Operating System will pair correctly with it. Maybe when Windows Mobile 6 comes out it will fare better.
I don't know why they didn't think of this when they were setting the vehicle up. In my opinion, high-end vehicle owners will tend to have high-end phones...and there are almost none that work right with the LR2. I am not a Blackberry person, but I can't believe these generally don't work with it too. As for the others, the Treo 700p will work, but not fully...

my ridge had a flat once, didn't notice it until I got in and was promptly alerted. Thats the only time it went off after a year of driving.

1. The M1 is a little too bulky for me. I carry my phone around in my back pocket, and the M1 is thicker than I would've liked. The PDF in the Land Rover website said it wouldn't work. My girlfriend's Cingular-branded PDA didn't work.
Also, I was surprised about not having a lockable fuel door. I also wished it had some covered storage space.
Overall I was happy with it. BTW, my local dealer would not budge at all on MSRP.
