How do you know if you got a good deal?

I did my research on KBB and Cargurus.com along with price comparison between different car dealerships but I'm not sure what is the right number to go for when accepting a offer.
Should I go for at least 1k below sticker price?

The car I'm in the market for ranges from 24k to 19k for a used 2015 Acura TLX 4 cyn base model with below 45k miles.

You could start by pricing out a 2015 TLX using Edmund's appraisal tool. This will tell you a "fair price"--what others are paying.

You can then compare that number to say what dealers are offering in your area on Craigslist. This will probably give you a good idea of the difference between dealer asking prices and Edmunds suggested price. You can also research private party ads on Craigslist.

It's difficult to say how much you can shave off a dealer's price on a used car because you don't know how much the dealer paid for it in the first place. He may have "stolen" it on a trade and thus has plenty of cushion to negotiate with you; or he may have paid top dollar at auction and so he stays tight on the price.

The dealer wants to make at least a couple thousand on the sale, more if possible. It's unusual for a dealer to cut his margin below 1500 or so.

Any negotiation requires that you are able to walk away. If the dealer lets you walk, and doesn't contact you shortly, then your offer was too low.
