I tweaked my Azera by getting it pin-striped. I have the 'bright silver' color and added a black and dark grey
stripes. It made a big difference. I didn't really like any of the exterior colors. I settled on the silver. What the heck was that purple color anyway?

    Current tweakings...

Changed out all door speakers to Infinity Kappa Series 6.5" speakers. Added an outboard amplifier and subwoofer that handles the deeper bass frequencies. I replaced factory wheels with 20" wheels riding on 245/35-20 tires and I added repeater turn signals on the front fenders. Oh yeah...tinted the windows with 35% tint.

Next thing to go will be the factory radio...I'll be replacing it with a Pioneer double din unit. I'll have pics as soon as it's done.

You can go to my carspace page and see some of the pics I have so far.

are you going to put a HID kit in?
  • tonycdtonycd Member Posts: 223
Allmet, I think your car looks dazzling. (I'm also waiting to see how that Pioneer head unit looks in the dash.)

My question is about your tinted windows. I've read a whole lot of posts on Acura boards where TL owners complain that the window mechanism is designed in a way that scratches the tint film off the glass in an ugly way. As a result, reputable installers have to install (actual, I guess) "moleskin" at the gasket, which being a natural material, eventually deteriorates and falls apart.

Do you (or does anyone out there) know whether the Azera has this problem long-term?
  • azera_06azera_06 Member Posts: 15
Where did you find those side marker lights? Also, who installed them?
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Thank you on the compliment...I was looking for the perfect wheel ever since I got my 'Zera back in March. However, the search paid off.

As far as the head unit goes...I'm hoping that I'll have that in by this coming weekend, so I'll have pics soon.

Concerning the tint...consider it a non issue. I have had NO issues with the tint getting scratched up in any way. The gasket, being a rubber/silicone material is in no way dangerous to the tint. Most installers use a semi-rigid plastic card to squeege the film and that doesn't scratch it.

The only thing that might happen is if dirt or sand got lodged between the glass and the gasket...that could maybe scratch the tint. One way to avoid that would be make sure you wipe the inner surface of the gasket from time to time when the window is rolled down.

The side marker lights can be found almost anywhere that sells stuff for cars. I know Advanced Auto, Auto Zone, Pep Boys and Wal Mart carry them. You can also order them from any internet source for aftermarket car stuff.

The ones I got were from the shop (Vivid Motorsports of Glen Burnie, MD) where I got my rims. The guy was getting rid of them, so he gave me a good price and I paid for them to install them as well.

I am good with the audio stuff, but don't trust myself with drilling on the body. He set them up to light up solid, but...they blink when the signals are activated as well.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
I may do an HID conversion later on, but after I get the majority of the stuff done for this, I have to work on my wife's Xterra or she'll get jealous! :P

My biggest project will be a custom grill. I don't want the one from dreamka.com that looks like the original, just without the "H". I want mine made out of that chrome mesh that they use in the Jaguar grills...that'll be slick!

Has anyone installed a pioneer Avic-D2 anv system in their Azera?
If so, how was the install? How does it look? How does it perform? Have you added Ipod adapter?
How is stereo and CD player campaired to Infiniti system?
  • mbhollambholla Member Posts: 37
I was lookin for a mesh grill too! I want to see what it looks like before Id go for it though. What looks hott on a Jag might not be so hot on the Azera. If you do it or find somone who does let me know Id like to see pictures & get an idea of cost.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Sometimes...it's about having vision. Trust me...when I figure out how to get my hands on some of that mesh (without having to pay for a grill for another car), I'll have pics of what I come up with.

The mesh it'self...it looks hot on every car I've seen it on, however...I've only seen it on the jags and the 300's.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
I haven't seen one installed in an Azera, but...I know it would look good in the dash. As far as performance...it's one of the best units out there in it's category. I'll know more about installation when I put my double din in (same as the AVIC-D2). I can tell you in almost any vehicle that comes with the "premium" sound system...an aftermarket stereo will make a world of difference.

I can tell you there was a big difference between the factory Infinity speakers in the doors as opposed to the aftermarket Infinity Kappas I replaced them with. The music became crisper, brighter and much cleaner in sound. Granted, the factory speakers were very good, but the aftermarkets were that much better.

If you're truly into your music, you'll always do yourself a favor by upgrading to aftermarket components. If it doesn't matter to you...don't waste the time, effort or the money.

How difficult was side marker light installation?
Do they blink with directionals? If so, was seperate relay needed?
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
I really don't know how difficult the install was, I had it done at a shop. It took maybe 1.5-2 hours from what they said. They were installed to stay on solid and blink when the signals are activated. They even light up when I lock or unlock the car with the remote. They didn't mention anything about a separate relay, I only paid for the lights and installation...nothing extra was on the invoice.

The very interesting and helpful posts on HIDs and on audio have graduated to their very own discussions! ;)

Reminder== They must be painted to match car. Additional cost.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
Do your side marker lights go on with headlights stay on when other parking or headlights are on and blink with directionals?
When I check with some aftermarket suppliers, they indicate that some car models require additional relay to make unit work with directionals
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
My side markers come on when the parking lights are on and stay on when the headlights come on. They also blink with the signals. No extra relay was required when mine were installed.

Are you aware of what wires they were tapped into, and where?
  • christy7christy7 Member Posts: 21
I am the proud new owner of a pearl white Azera! I really do love this car. One thing that I need though is bluetooth. I am thinking of having a professional installer put in a car kit for me. Have any of you done that? I'm looking at the Motorola 1000IHF (I may have the numbers wrong). It's the newest model out.
    Thanks!
    Christy
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
They are tapped directly into the parking/signal light wires, however, to be able to tell you where...I'm at a loss as I was not at the shop when they did the install. Sorry.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
Has anyone installed Blue Tooth in their Azera.
I am thinking of using the Motorola IHF1000, but don't know if the Infiniti sound system has input which mutes the audio system when the cellular phone operates.
    Any info would be appreciated
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
If you're dealing with a good install shop, they might be able to tie the mute function for your Blue Tooth into the mute control on the steering wheel.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
Does that mean that the Hyundai Infiniti does not have such an input? I have been informed that most new stereos systems have such inputs.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Unless a car is made with Blue Tooth as an option, the stereo won't be designed with that feature.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
Has anyone yet upgraded steering wheel audio controls to 2007 Azera standard? I still can not get any accurate upgrade information.

    Hi All,

I just received my New Chrome Wheels for my Black Azera yesterday. They are the exact same 17" wheels that came with the Azera only in Chrome. I like them very much. They off set the car nicely and compliment the other chrome on the car. I hope the link to the photos works. What do you think? Thanks for the look. JoeD

Hello again, I don't know why the photos came out side by side. When I did a Preview they where underneath each other. Did I do something wrong? If so can someone please tell me what and how I can correct it. Sorry that you have to scroll sideways to view it all. JoeD
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
They are not side by side for me, and no sideways scrolling necessary!
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
The wheels look great! As you have debadged grille, did you not try to get wheels without Hyundai "H"?
I still have been unsucessfull in obtaining a no "H" grille for my sage green Azera.
  • jnd17jnd17 Member Posts: 62
Hi floridabob1. I tried to obtain a no logo center for the wheels but was not successful in doing so. I don't mind the H in the center of the wheels. I de-badge because I don't like to clean in between all those letters when detailing my car and especially a Dealers Logo. If the Dealer wants me to advertise for them then they will have to Pay Me. I have always taken off any badges that I could on all of my previous cars, including a Caddy and Jag. I like the No H Grille because for me it looks a lot cleaner than just trying to hide the fact the the car is a Hyundai. That really doesn't bother me.

For the Host. I don't know why but on my computer at work and now at my Home. The photos are still side by side and my follow up reply is also long and has to be scrolled sideways. I don't have a clue as too why. JoeD

I noticed you changed your grill out also. NICE!! I just recieved one for my Azera, but it came in Silver and my Azera is Steel Gray, so I will need to paint. I also removed the Hyundia and Limited letters on the trunk to clean it up some. I also have the Azera hood arnament, but not to sure if I'll install or not. Happy trails!!
  • hyundai2hyundai2 Member Posts: 37
I'm debadging. I read your note. I went to the local parts house and bought a 12" strip of 2.5" wide white reflective tape, cut it into 4 round circles and put that on the rim centers, over the "H". Looks nice and is an excellant reflector for night driving. I've also ordered the side lights that are shown on note # 80. Can't wait to get them.
  • christy7christy7 Member Posts: 21
Just wondering if any of you have installed a remote starter on your Azera, and if so, what brand did you install?
    Christy
  • tinydog1tinydog1 Member Posts: 83
jnd17, they look great. Did you have them chromed or were you able to order them. If so, could you let me know from where. Thanks in advance.
  • jnd17jnd17 Member Posts: 62
Hi tinydog, I purchased them from a Co. in CA called OEMRIMS Inc. Here is their phone number: 714-940-1761 and email address: OEMRIMSCOMPANY@AOL.COM. They had an exchange program but I didn't want to send back my original rims. So I purchased them outright. I need the other rims for the winter months here in New England. Take care, JoeD

I spoke with a bunch of people yesterday about installing a Nav/ Audio system to my Azera.
Apparently, the only system that is Blue Tooth ready, can accomodate and control Ipod, be connected to steering wheel buttons ( Still questionable), voice controlable is the Pioneer AVIC Z1. With all of the adaptors needed the unit costs about $2000.00 plus installation, which could take as much as 7 hours. Some dash modification might be necessary.
I'm told that the functions are somewhat harder to use than some other systems.
If anyone has gotten different information, kindly post.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
I tried installing my new stereo and found out rather quickly that there will have to be some tricky work that will need to be done in order to make the install successful. I didn't realize the dash has such an extreme angle and there are no aftermarket radios to match that. Also, there are no dash kits available (for double din radios) to make the install any easier. :confuse:

I will have to get creative with some fiberglass and other materials to make this work.

I'll keep you posted of any progress!
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
I did notice the extreme angle of the oem audio system, and maybe that is the reason that some companies have told me that their double din units will not fit into Azera. One told me that the Hyundai Azera is actually a size "I" unit for intallation kits. I have yet to determine what that means. Good luck with your installation.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
The size I just means it has a lil more "meat" around the edges to fill in the gap. I don't know if you've ever watched Unique Whips on the Speed Channel, but they've done some stereo installs that were quite wicked. It's just a matter of me taking some time to devote to the project and making it happen. The aftermarket won't have the flush look, but...I can still make it look like it belongs in the dash.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
I just received a return call from Hyundai Consumer affairs regarding upgrading of 06 steering wheel audio control to 07 standard. They claim that although steering wheel and control buttons are the same size, that the upgrade would require changing the entire steering wheel and wire harness.
She also stated that this change COULD effect the warranty.
I'm not certain that the information provided is correct. Has anyone performed this upgrade?
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
What I fail to understand is if a Hyundai service department performs the swap...why would it effect the warranty???

The only reason I can see that the steering wheel would need to be changed would be the wires running to the harness that the controls plug into. The '06 models may not have the extra wiring needed to perform the added functions the controllers in the '07 will perform.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Floridabob...I took a look under the hood and they tapped into the parking/signal lights right behind the headlight assembly (I'll post pics as soon as I can take them). I still don't see any sort of relays though.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
RE posting # 50.. Did you ever change your audio controller from 06 to 07 standard? If so, was it necessary to modify or change harness?
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    Thanks for the info.
Spoke with shop that claims to have installed many side marker lights.
They charge $60 per hour, and said that average install takes between 1 and 2 hours, depending upon shape and size of holes to be made in fenders.
I still haven't picked which kind of light to use.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    Response to #124
I asked Consumer Affairs rep that exact question. Her reply was that if the modification is not a safety related CAMPAIGN, which would be performed by Hyundai at no charge, all other modifications to "as purchased" models COULD affect the warranty. Her example was that if an air bag deployed, it could be as a result of modification. Maybe they are just covering their butts.

    Hi,

I do alot of paraell parking and the sensors would be great. Thanks
