MF and Residual figures on BMW, X5

The lease on my 2016 BMW X5 expires soon and I have narrowed by interests to the 2019 Volvo XC90 Inscription T6 and the 2019 BMW X5 xDrive 40i.

Can you please tell me what the Residual and MF figures are this month in the Philadelphia area for a BMW X5 lease at 36 months and 12,000 miles---

I am also looking for opinions regarding the 2019 Volvo XC90 Inscription T6 vs the 2019 BMW X5 xDrive 40i. I realize that the X5 is just entering production but I am looking for opinions- pros, cons, of both cars- people in similar positions who are choosing one over the other and why. Thanks,

Moderator-  Can I please get your opinion on this initial offer to me from BMW, Lancaster, PA, for a 2019 BMW X5 xDrive 40i.  Please keep in mind these figures don’t factor in Multiple Security Deposits on the MF and any other money I would be willing to put down. 

MSRP- $82,695, Their offer including $1000 loyalty discount, $77,355, Residual- 58%, MF-.00196. 

When I questioned their money factor being marked up from .00166 to .00196, he responded, “We do mark it up and wanted a small cushion if rates move up. We can only lock rates for 60 days.”

In a later email, my contact stated, “I checked with our GM. Since we are discounting the all new X5 so deep we will need to be at .00186 rate with 720 or higher score. Please remember that that rate can only be locked for 60 days. If BMWFS changes it in November we would need to as well.”

He is currently running numbers to include the MSD’s in the deal. I just want to get your opinion on this. I am not keen on paying a marked up MF.

Then tell them you want the base MF, or you'll keep shopping until you find a dealer willing to play ball.

At least they are honest about it.

6.5% discount off sticker is better than average; there might be another $400-500 you could shave off the price.

Yesterday (9/22), I built and ordered a 2019 BMW X5 xDrive 40i at Otto’s BMW, West Chester, PA.  I will lease the SAV at 36 months, 12,000 miles per year. Based on all of the numbers listed below- Otto’s said my payment would be $847.00 per month. 

After I got home- I took a a second look at the numbers and my calculations are less than $847.00 per month.  I have to believe that  I am doing something wrong. My calculations are coming out to a monthly payment of approximately $713.10 per month. (I did not do monthly security deposits bc it only resulted in a difference of $40.00 per month). 

Can you please re-do the calculations for me and tell me if I am crazy—

Looks like you might be missing a lot of numbers.

1) PA has an extra 3% tax on leases, so your tax rate is 9%, not 6%
2) Is $12K the total amount due at signing? If so, you have to pay $925 acquisition fee, doc and DMV fees and first payment out of that. Then, you can deduct what's left over from the adjusted CAP cost.... Oh, yeah, you'll have to pay upfront tax on the CAP cost reduction, so reduce the leftover amount by 9%.

So, I don't think you are crazy, you are just working with incomplete information.

I have excellent credit and am looking for base MF and as little as possible, if not $0, fees. I just don't know what my expectations should be with this stuff and don't have the experience on the conversation to have.

Email inquiries that seem to get the best response are for exact vehicles they have in stock. Go to the dealer's website and pick a specific vehicle from their inventory.

"Hi, I'm interested in 2019 X3, stock number XXXX. Can you give me a quote for 3 years, 15K mi/yr, with just first payment and DMV fees upfront? Please list selling price and all other costs/fees, along with the money factor and residual. I don't have a trade-in. Thanks!"

Then add whatever other conversation you want, if it makes you look like you are serious about leasing the vehicle.

Is it normal for a sales rep. to email back with a standard sales sheet for a specific vehicle, not really answering any specific questions I asked them? They said to come in and talk to the finance department to answer my questions and I am trying to avoid the all day back and forth in a dealership. Is that the only way to do it?

Yes... that's typical.

No, it's not the only way to do it. But, you can't make a particular dealership necessarily do what you want.

Not always a myth. If a dealer needs to make a sale to hit a volume bonus, you could score a better than average deal.
