I was surprised to find out that invoice is much higher than what’s reported on kbb, edmunds, true car.  Can someone please explain what allocation is?  Screenshot from computer screen at local Subaru dealer

Are you only negotiating with one dealer?

We see screenshots every day on the forums that show "dealer cost" on the form, yet the selling price on the same form is well below that number. So, it's no wonder that the dealer is readily sharing that number with you.

Shop more dealers, and tell them you are going to the dealer with the best price. You don't care about their cost, only what they will sell it for.

Thanks.  I am negotiating with several dealers by email; looking to confirm the numbers by email and go in just to sign.  This dealer is right in my home town and would not negotiate by email but urged me to come in because they were certain that we could settle on a fair price.  When I showed them my quotes from other dealers, they pulled up this screen for Quirk, the dealer who quoted me $29,080, and told me that it couldn’t be possible that Quirk would sell me the 3.6R with navigation for that price and so on.  I walked out.  I’m using the screenshot to contact the dealers in the list because that is a list of all dealers in New England that have the color combo I want. In the end, it wasn’t a total loss of time.

And here is why dealers have a poor reputation.  After negotiating the price, I sent an email informing them that I want to lease, with my after tax monthly lease payment, and asked them to confirm that their numbers match with mine.  I received an email stating that a lease is calculated differently than a purchase.

I’m posting my deal as requested.  Legacy 3.6R with navigation in MA.  MSRP $34,580, sales price $29,580.  $500 above what they initially quoted me.  The $500 difference is dealer cash that applies only to sales.  What is interesting is that there is $1,750 dealer cash for outback sales through 4/30/19.  I was given the Subaru incentive summary from Subaru of New England.

Not a reputationissue, a communication issue.

You needed to be up front about your desire to lease. Frequently, there are different incentives for a purchase vs a lease.
