Although others have paid less, you shouldn't pay for than what I did for the vehicle. It is a "mover" off the lots; I had two people waiting to see if I would buy-they were prepared if I didn't.
Although I wanted front buckets and fogs, I had to settle for what the truck had...and besides those two things, I got the 6 x 9 mirrors and defrost rear window (no slider) I was worried about the slider, but then realized you can easily get skinny 8' long things into the cab!
Here's the breakdown:
2000 Patriot Blue SLT 2wd 4.7l auto 3:55 quadcab
T/H Group
SLT Group
SLT Plus Group (includes almost all the other groups)
Overhead Power Convenience Group
Rear Defrost
6" x 9" mirrors
Towing Package
HD cooling package
Power front bench seat (driver's side only)
AM/FM/CD/Cassette with 63/200 watt Infinity system
Bottom Line: Truck was fully loaded except fogs
Invoice plus $500= $22,895 (approx, includes dest charge and under-rail bedliner)
Also had to pay:
$20 "Customer Loyalty Mailing"
$495 Advertising Fee
Don't forget Tax, License, and Registration
Since I traded in my 1999 R/T Neon (which was paid off) and a hefty amount of cash, my down was around $15,800, leaving me to finance just under $11,000.
There are NO DC rebates or financing incentives on the vehicle, although someone said something about student and farm bureau discounts.
Also didn't someone mention "free" bedliners are offered now?
Anyway, I got 9.9% financing-not bad considering I went thru financial ruin about 2 years ago (BK)
The best non-dealer-offered financing now is at least 8%, so figure about $19 a month for each $1000 financed....that'd be $575 a month on the same truck with no down payment. (my payment's $224)
Good Luck-grab one now, or wait for 2001!
I have been reading all inputs for a few days now. It has been a great source of info from those lucky enough to have their QC's already. I ordered mine on 17 Apr, so I hope the 5 May deadline is correct. As of 19 May, mine hasn't entered the assembly line, but the dealer promises to check again on it Monday for me. I'll follow up with more information as I get it.
My Specs:

I was driving by another local Dodge dealer here in Newport News, VA yesterday. They got two new 4x4 QC's in this week. They had a Patriot Blue fresh off the carrier. Unfortunately, it was a V6/auto. Still looked really sharp, and it makes me even more jealous for mine to get here.
About tops/caps/tonneaus:
I originally looked at the Dodge gullwing, but wanted a one-piece fiberglass tonneau. I searched all around, and found the Leer dealer had the only wrap-over tonneau available. I ordered one for $650, and it will probably get here before the truck. Leer also has two models of caps. The 100XQ top meshes well with the QC, because it has ridges that match the QC's roofline very well. If I wanted a full cap, that's what I would get. Sorry, I don't have a price on that model.
Invoice included ad fees of $390, the idiotic "customer mailing" of $20 and $9 for gas. I also paid a $149 conveyance fee, which is pure dealer profit, but I didn't feel like making a stink since everything else about the purchase was so pleasant.
In other words, if you calculated the invoice price from Edmunds, I paid $568 over invoice.
But just to confuse matters, the actual DC invoice has the $390 ad fee, the $20 mailing and the $9 gas charge right on it. So you could say I paid $149 over invoice (the conveyance fee).
I live in Connecticut. I think folks like Texaszach can confirm that you can do better than I did if you live in places like Texas.
Problem stems from continuing confusion on my part about whether the ad fees, the customer mailing and the gas are part of what the dealer really pays to DC.
As noted, bottom line is that if you take calculate invoice from Edmunds and add $568, that's what I paid.
and of course for Boo who rides in his carrier (R/V). Great truck, easily accommodated four adults. Had one little glitch; The air bag light comes on at random accompanied by the light for same. Recycle ignition and start, sometimes comes
back on and sometimes not. Will call the dealer next week. Really love the truck. Mileage appears about 16.5 at this point in mixed driving. Get the information to themacguy or andy jordan for the club.

Sorry for my mistake in Post# 314. I applauded Leer's products but mis-spelled Leer twice. If you want a look at the tops and tonneau that Leer offers, see http://www.leer.com/pg6.html. They have a special line just for the QC.
Iowabigguy....I called Jim's Dodge yesterday morning and spoke with Kurt, a very nice and knowledgeable individual. Thank you for the recommendation, if Omaha was not 700 miles away I would give them serious consideration.

Out-the-door (including 6% tax and plate transfer) it came to $27,900... About $200 under dealer invoice.
Love this truck! No question that they're getting good money for it, but my personal opinion is that the features/benefits are worth the extra cash.
Not only is the Dakota somewhat larger and heavier by several hundred pounds than the pre-1994 Ram; but, in addition to a larger engine displacement, the rear axles and differential are larger than that of the current F150.
For what it's worth, sounds like you may be on the right track with the 4.7/auto/X-plan... All I've heard about the 4.7 is that it's an extremely smooth, strong, efficient mill. While I opted for the 5.9 out of generally good experience with the same engine in the Ram, I'm envious of those with the 4.7 (particularly when I pull in for gas!).
I would venture that the HP- and TORQUE-TO-WEIGHT ratio in the 4.7 and 5.9 are probably nearly identical (given lighter components in the OHC motor).
Your idea on the X-plan to cover any potential tranny problems is a GOOD ONE in my view. There's a lot of power going to the pavement, and it's good to know that you've got coverage once the 3/36 has expired!
Good luck, and enjoy your Quad!
Some other folks have went with X-Warranties through 3rd parties or their credit unions/banks... Mabey some of them will share...Im kind of partial to OEM warranties but that is just me...Side note---> I'm also partial to 5-spds which i found out that i was the only person in North and south Carolina that apparently wanted one because there was not asingle 4.7/5sp in either state available...
Fender Flares---> should be around $200-225 from the Parts Dept...Pick up a truck acc book the next time you stop by the dealer...Who knows...Mabey you can get him to throw them in for free or at a VERY discounted price...
Thast what i did...Make a list of everything extra you want and after you settle on a price on the truck...Start bargaining for the accessories...Youll be surprised at how the sales dept will sell things SUPER cheap from the parts dept in order to move the truck...Im sure the parts guys hate it but thats between them..
Good Luck
Chad
Badassbob.....I feel your pain! What is with these dealers not ordering the 4.7L 5 speed combination for stock?
MaybeQuad2000.....Unless your dealer is able to work miracles of Biblical proportions, I suggest you either opt for a 2001 or try to find what you want in dealer stock. Chrysler should guarantee your 2000 price if you allow the order to be rolled over to a 2001, assuming you can wait until September to get it.
I can relate to your dabbling with the sports car... My personal weakness happens to be Harleys, but the important thing is that those of us in our mid- to upper 40s have a toy to play with!!!
Getting out of the F-350 and into the Quad (as I out of the Ram and into the QC), I might humbly suggest that the QUAD itself is going to FEEL like a "sports car!" I think you'll be amazed by the power, the R&P steering and the "flat" ride!
All - While at the local dealer the other day waiting to take the test drives on the 3.9 and 4.7, I saw a red 00 QC that someone had traded in already. Looked to be a 4.7 auto 4x2 with power accessories; couldn't tell how many miles or much else with the doors locked. But what got my attention (shocked me as a matter of fact)was the tires. All four appeared very worn, especially their outer edges, though the rest of each tire was worn also. Of course, the salesman didn't know anything about it and you don't know if the driver took proper care of his truck. Otherwise it looked like a really nice vehicle. Anybody had any tire wear/alignment problems yet?
I just heard from the dealer, he doesn't have any white ones coming in with the 4.7L, just black and amberfire. That only leaves me with 5 white ones to choose from, both SLT Pluses and Sports. Sooooo, we are going to get together either later this afternoon or first thing in the morning and get this deal done.
On having toys, its been way too long since I have had one, but the time if fast approaching! I haven't owned a bike in about 10 years, sold my last one because of the hazards of riding in Dallas traffic, what a nightmare.
MaybeQuad2000....any news with your situation?
Take care and be safe all...
Zach
The Heavy Duty Service group consists of a 136 amp alternator, 750 amp battery and maximum engine cooling. Even if you are not towing a trailer I would think the maximum engine cooling to be a good thing. I also think that ordering Air Conditioning would include maximum engine cooling.
Those in the know say there are no big changes coming for the 2001 QC, except for the usual price increase.
I don't think the dealers will have any concrete information for a few more weeks on the 2001 model. I was told that production would start around the middle of August.
I'm sure others here will have something to offer as well.
Good Luck,
Zach
Thanks
I looked into it extensivly and opted NOT to get it. I looked under a LOT of Dakota hoods at 5 different dealers and visually verified my findings.
The 4.7 BY DEFAULT comes with the beefier alternator and the V8s all come with the bigger battery. The multispeed tranny BY DEFAULT has a cooler in front of the radiator too. The only thing your money buys is the POWER STEERING COOLER.
That is a pretty expensive power steering cooler when looked at from that perspective.
Does anyone have a reason to beleive that my research is flawed? (DO NOT ASK A DEALER...THEY ARE TRYING TO SELL YOU SOMTHING)
HD Service Group:
I think the Kelly Blue Book Specs say all. See www.kbb.com to get codes and pricings. The HD service group includes a beefier alternator, battery and HD Engine cooling for both standard and 4-speed auto. In addition to these, the auto gets an auxiliary tranny cooler. The power steering cooler is added for 2-wheel drive models. Invoice prices are $102 for 5-speeds and $153 for 4-speed autos.
I think the aux tranny cooler is absolutely essential if you are going to do any towing at all with an auto tranny.

I drive about 600-700 miles a week (long commute and weekend errands), so oil & filter changes occur about 12 times a year. (With my 1995 and 1999 Neons, that was 71 oil & filter changes.) I'VE NEVER USED SYNTHETIC OIL. With mostly freeway miles, the condition of the used oil & filters was always minimal. (I guess I'm saying it looked just slightly dirty, just enough to show that it was doing its job.)
However, since the 4.7l (and all newer motors) are manufactured to tighter and tighter tolerances, I'm theorizing that the requirements for multi-viscousity are mainly based on avoiding startup wear and to enhance gas mileage. With this treatment and care, my vehicles tend to look a lot nicer than the miles on the odometer would indicate. For instance, my 1995 Neon with 167K looked like a vehicle with 35-40k. At trade-in 2 weeks ago, my 1999 R/T with 41k looked brand-new, save a couple stone chips on the hood.(Weekly washes and always keeping your cars in the garage helps too.) So where am I going with this babbling? I'm wondering what this board's opinions are regarding using a synthetic-whether I'll net anything positive by switching the quad onto a steady diet of Mobil 1. If so, would a different (better) filter also provide a benefit? I usually use a Fram or Napa "Gold". I know the expense will at least double, since I'm used to spending about $10 at each oil & filter change. Feel free to direct me to the cheapest place to buy Mobil 1. (Costco? Wal-Mart? etc.) Sorry for the long post, thanks for any advice, pointers, criticism, thoughts, or just meaningless truck-babble....

Defects to date (1400 miles) will all be addressed on Thursday by dealer:
1) Squeaky/creaky front power bench seat.
2) Loose bolt at rear pasenger side wheelwell.
3) Weatherstrip at driver's door bottom (attached to door) fell half-off during 1st wash.
4) Loose big plastic button on bottom engine shroud, under fan, just behind front air dam on passenger side. (button ain't holdin' squat.)
Side note/question:
Bought the sill protectors. Will also buy the foglight kit. (Apparently there are 2 different kits, depending on whether you have the cargo/dome light roller switch on the headlight bezel-i do.)
Does anybody know where I can get better prices on Mopar stuff than the dealer? Kollerdodge.com carries a lot of Mopar stuff at about a 20% discount to Mopar list prices, but they don't list the kit.
Mileage update:
Avg shown by computer is 18.3 (4.7l w/auto, 3:55)
If you've seen my previous blathering posts, you've seen my comments about the computer's average mpg being about 5-10% off, based on miles driven and gallons required to fill up the tank.
Has anyone else been able to verify actual mileage, and has anyone else noticed that at 1/8 tank, there is still 5-6 gallons left, instead of what should be (24/8) 3 gallons?? I admit I've been driving very conservatively (except for blowing off the occasional Chevy/Ford truck that is foolish enough to challenge me..).
Any thoughts??
Mileage observations:
With AC on, mileage drops 1 mpg on gentle upgrade and on the flat...however, on a steep incline with foot off the gas, computer's current mpg indicator will only zoom up to 50-65 mpg, as opposed to 75-83 mpg...(like I should complain about that)
It's been around 101-104 degrees here in the Central Valley these last 3 days..
I'm impressed with the power still available with the AC on, the drop is almost imperceptible.
Best mileage seems to be acheived at speeds between 55-70 mph. Speeds higher than 70 causes wider variations as you experience gentle upgrades and downgrades:
55-70 mph=fluctuations between 18-28 mpg.
70-80 mph=fluctuations between 16-24 mpg.
Enough wasted bandwidth for now...
Also yesterday if finally found my oil filter on my 4.7, with some help from posts from this site. Now someone tell me how to reach my hand up there with an oil filter wrench to get the thing off. Then how do I do it with out spilling oil all over the place.

Quark99: I have had some people I trust recommend a blended oil (synthetic/natural). I would definitely not use a Fram filter. I prefer the Motorcraft filters. Wal-Mart is probably going to be cheaper, but shop around, sales and some smaller retailers can yield good prices.
I'm not familiar with the 4.7 units or what they might be have "by default" without the HD Group. I can only suggest what you get with the HD versus "standard" on the 5.9 QC:
-- 750-amp (versus 650) battery
-- Alternator with higher charging capacity
-- Auxilliary trans and oil coolers (versus integral)
-- Larger radiator (more cooling surface)
To my knowledge, there is no power steering cooler in the HD group.
My experience? Well, I ordered it in my '95 Ram with 5.9, and the truck went 5-1/2 years with no problems... Still on the original battery... Never a transmission problem... Operating temperatures never left the "safe" zone.
I'm sure there are valid arguments against it, depending upon your driving habits, applications and weather conditions.
As for myself, I tow a trailer infrequently, but on those one or two trips a year, it's a LONG drive that can take me from below-zero to temps well into the 90s. I see the HD group as sort of the "mechanical equivalent" of an extended service plan... Just as I see that $30 engine heater as cheap insurance in my environment.
TEX:
You jumped out of the F-350 1-ton and into the Quad... I can only imagine that the difference in steering and handling preciseness was almost "scary!" I've been back and forth between the 1/2-ton Ram and the Quad for a couple of weeks, and each time I jump into the Quad, it takes a few miles to adjust to the flat handling and tight steering... Also noticed the conspicuous absence of the truck's tendency to "scoot" to left or right over surface irregularities!
I KNOW you'll be enjoying what I am: The idea of driving as a pleasure rather than the "work" it can be in the big ones.
I like the performance aspect of the truck and the bed seems like it would be a plus in the cargo area. I'm not planning on towing or hauling a great deal of weight, so that's not any real consideration for me.
The fact that I can get great performance for under $24,000 really appeals to me. I've never owned a truck and was actually considering a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP.
Anyway hope someone can help.
btw: Is insurance any higher on Pick-up trucks than passenger cars.
fluid out onto the engine and down the bellhousing. Took it to two dealers. Was told the dipstick was not a problem .Owners manual states
dipstick must be seated properly to keep out dirt
and water. My solution was to install an L shaped bracket secured to the fill tube with a small
hose clamp. Then used tiewire to hold dipstick in
place wired to the bracket. Cheap fix for what
could be potential problem .Good Luck

I would be interested to know what Dodge customer service says about the $500, and you may have to take to a higher level at customer service and explain your situation, which, while certainly not occuring often, can't be unique. I would request what their policys (and recommendations) are when a dealership bellyups with a deposit on a new vehicle order.
Man I thought this kind of stuff only happened to me. Post all the details asap.
will have been properly broken in by the time the first snowfall hits 24". Then we'll drag. You may be correct, it could have been 1750 RPM, but it did look like 1700 RPM. Without my reading glasses, I wouldn't want to bet but the increased
wheel diameter is considerable enough to make a difference. When I took delivery of the Quad with
the 3.92 rears I could tell immediately when I let
out the clutch. It was a real grunt.

also I will post mileage after 3400miles. Thinking K&N filter and flowmasters next.. shortly..
I don't have much time right now, have a customer on the way to the shop. I've been gone all afternoon. I bought a Quad today, more info to follow, I will post later this evening when I'm not pressed for time.

So if anyone knows of a 4.7 4x4 Quad on a lot somewhere I'ld appreciate a note with the dealer phone number. My email is in my profile. Thanks in advance for any help.
I think I'll cruise by the Dealer later this week and take a closer look!
