    Sgtjeep-
Although others have paid less, you shouldn't pay for than what I did for the vehicle. It is a "mover" off the lots; I had two people waiting to see if I would buy-they were prepared if I didn't.
Although I wanted front buckets and fogs, I had to settle for what the truck had...and besides those two things, I got the 6 x 9 mirrors and defrost rear window (no slider) I was worried about the slider, but then realized you can easily get skinny 8' long things into the cab!
    Here's the breakdown:
    2000 Patriot Blue SLT 2wd 4.7l auto 3:55 quadcab
    T/H Group
    SLT Group
SLT Plus Group (includes almost all the other groups)
    Overhead Power Convenience Group
    Rear Defrost
    6" x 9" mirrors
    Towing Package
    HD cooling package
Power front bench seat (driver's side only)
AM/FM/CD/Cassette with 63/200 watt Infinity system
Bottom Line: Truck was fully loaded except fogs
Invoice plus $500= $22,895 (approx, includes dest charge and under-rail bedliner)
    Also had to pay:
    $20 "Customer Loyalty Mailing"
    $495 Advertising Fee
Don't forget Tax, License, and Registration
Since I traded in my 1999 R/T Neon (which was paid off) and a hefty amount of cash, my down was around $15,800, leaving me to finance just under $11,000.
There are NO DC rebates or financing incentives on the vehicle, although someone said something about student and farm bureau discounts.
Also didn't someone mention "free" bedliners are offered now?
Anyway, I got 9.9% financing-not bad considering I went thru financial ruin about 2 years ago (BK)
The best non-dealer-offered financing now is at least 8%, so figure about $19 a month for each $1000 financed....that'd be $575 a month on the same truck with no down payment. (my payment's $224)
Good Luck-grab one now, or wait for 2001!

    All:
I have been reading all inputs for a few days now. It has been a great source of info from those lucky enough to have their QC's already. I ordered mine on 17 Apr, so I hope the 5 May deadline is correct. As of 19 May, mine hasn't entered the assembly line, but the dealer promises to check again on it Monday for me. I'll follow up with more information as I get it.

    My Specs:
    Patriot Blue Quad 4x4 SLT
    4.7L
    5 speed
    3.55 lsd
    4-wheel ABS
    SLT Plus
    Tire/ Handling Pkg 31x10.5 tires
    AM/FM/CD/Cassette
    Leather steering wheel
    Overhead Convenience Group
    Fog lights
    6" x 9" mirrors
    Towing Package
    HD service group
    Power front bench seat
    Trailer tow package

I was driving by another local Dodge dealer here in Newport News, VA yesterday. They got two new 4x4 QC's in this week. They had a Patriot Blue fresh off the carrier. Unfortunately, it was a V6/auto. Still looked really sharp, and it makes me even more jealous for mine to get here.

    About tops/caps/tonneaus:
I originally looked at the Dodge gullwing, but wanted a one-piece fiberglass tonneau. I searched all around, and found the Leer dealer had the only wrap-over tonneau available. I ordered one for $650, and it will probably get here before the truck. Leer also has two models of caps. The 100XQ top meshes well with the QC, because it has ridges that match the QC's roofline very well. If I wanted a full cap, that's what I would get. Sorry, I don't have a price on that model.

I paid invoice for mine (which is on order).

Invoice included ad fees of $390, the idiotic "customer mailing" of $20 and $9 for gas. I also paid a $149 conveyance fee, which is pure dealer profit, but I didn't feel like making a stink since everything else about the purchase was so pleasant.

In other words, if you calculated the invoice price from Edmunds, I paid $568 over invoice.

But just to confuse matters, the actual DC invoice has the $390 ad fee, the $20 mailing and the $9 gas charge right on it. So you could say I paid $149 over invoice (the conveyance fee).

I live in Connecticut. I think folks like Texaszach can confirm that you can do better than I did if you live in places like Texas.
  • lmeyer1lmeyer1 Member Posts: 215
My prior post looks stupid. I said I paid invoice, then said I paid $568 over.

Problem stems from continuing confusion on my part about whether the ad fees, the customer mailing and the gas are part of what the dealer really pays to DC.

As noted, bottom line is that if you take calculate invoice from Edmunds and add $568, that's what I paid.

Took the Quad to the beach this weekend. Plenty of room for me, my wife, my aunt (we're all tall)
and of course for Boo who rides in his carrier (R/V). Great truck, easily accommodated four adults. Had one little glitch; The air bag light comes on at random accompanied by the light for same. Recycle ignition and start, sometimes comes
back on and sometimes not. Will call the dealer next week. Really love the truck. Mileage appears about 16.5 at this point in mixed driving. Get the information to themacguy or andy jordan for the club.

    All:
Sorry for my mistake in Post# 314. I applauded Leer's products but mis-spelled Leer twice. If you want a look at the tops and tonneau that Leer offers, see http://www.leer.com/pg6.html. They have a special line just for the QC.
  • iwantmyquadiwantmyquad Member Posts: 17
I am an idiot. You need to select the "New Leer Products" Button to get to the Quad Cab Lineup.

Towcrazy, 1meyer1, Bookitty.....I spent yesterday shopping for Quads here in the Dallas-Ft.Worth messoplex :). I made a HUGE mistake by driving a loaded out SLT Plus with the 4.7L automatic. Since no 5 speeds are close, I'm going to pull the trigger on a auto, I love it! I listened intently for the clunk and anything else that might not be right. The salesman did not go with me so I was gone for about 30 minutes. The first dealer I went to must have been smoking crack, a mere 1,150 off FULL LIST. The next dealer, who has 30 QC's in stock, told me to take my pick of the liter, 337.00 over invoice on any of them. Plus, he got REALLY right on my trade in, giving me a solid offer of 3,500 more than the first dealer. It was late in the day, I picked out a solid white SLT Plus with agate and most of the goodies I want, but we are going to talk further tommorrow, he has 8 more QC's due here before the end of the month and I want to look those invoices over. This salesman is very easy going, he's the fleet manager. I may opt for the extended warranty which I never buy, due to the questionable nature of the automatic trans.

Iowabigguy....I called Jim's Dodge yesterday morning and spoke with Kurt, a very nice and knowledgeable individual. Thank you for the recommendation, if Omaha was not 700 miles away I would give them serious consideration.

For what it's worth, here are my specs and the price...

    Quad Sport (all white):
-- AJK: Deluxe Convenience Group (cruise/speed/tilt)
-- AHC: Trailer Towing Prep Group (harness & class IV hitch)
-- ADJ: Heavy Duty Service Group (oil cooler, HD alternator & battery, HD radiator, trans oil cooler)
-- AJL: Power Overhead Convenience Group (auto day/night mirror, compass, courtesy lights, map/reading light, outside temp gage, power windows/locks, keyless entry , overhead console, computer, etc.)
-- AGU: Sport Plus Package (air, fogs, and premium tire & handling group, including the wider wheels, tires, track bar, wheel flares)
    -- EML: 5.9L V-8
    -- NHK: Engine heater
    -- DSA: Limited slip diff
    -- ADL: Skid plates
    -- SCG: Leather steering wheel
-- CLE: Front & rear mats
-- GFA: Rear defroster (includes 6X9 power heated RV mirrors)
    -- K5: High-back bucket seats
    -- JPS: Power driver's seat
-- RBR: Stereo/CD with Infinity speakers
    -- DGB: Auto trans

Out-the-door (including 6% tax and plate transfer) it came to $27,900... About $200 under dealer invoice.

Love this truck! No question that they're getting good money for it, but my personal opinion is that the features/benefits are worth the extra cash.

For those of you new Dakota owners who may be wondering where all that 4,500 lbs in the Dakota QC has gone, I discovered some interesting information this weekend.

Not only is the Dakota somewhat larger and heavier by several hundred pounds than the pre-1994 Ram; but, in addition to a larger engine displacement, the rear axles and differential are larger than that of the current F150.
  • lmeyer1lmeyer1 Member Posts: 215
With that kind of choice, you ought to be able to find something that suits you. In some ways, I could see giving up the 5-speed for the auto. Plenty of folks seem to think it's a great combo (4.7 plus auto). Maybe get the basic extended warranty, which would cover the tranny, and be done with the thing and start driving.
  • towcrazy2towcrazy2 Member Posts: 337
    Tex,

For what it's worth, sounds like you may be on the right track with the 4.7/auto/X-plan... All I've heard about the 4.7 is that it's an extremely smooth, strong, efficient mill. While I opted for the 5.9 out of generally good experience with the same engine in the Ram, I'm envious of those with the 4.7 (particularly when I pull in for gas!).

I would venture that the HP- and TORQUE-TO-WEIGHT ratio in the 4.7 and 5.9 are probably nearly identical (given lighter components in the OHC motor).

Your idea on the X-plan to cover any potential tranny problems is a GOOD ONE in my view. There's a lot of power going to the pavement, and it's good to know that you've got coverage once the 3/36 has expired!

Good luck, and enjoy your Quad!

we just ordered ours last weekend, and i was a few posts behind due to the growing segment of us who ordered or recieved their QC. the dealer salesman told me that it would deffinatly be a 2000. i plan to be on the phone with him as early as i can tommow morning(increase the bosses cell phone bill, Oh Well) can you check for your order status on-line, and if so could you please point me in the general direction of the post number for proper instructions. i also agree that this is the most informative spot on edmunds, which i discovered after considering a super crew, and found that they were not informative on pricing, restrictions, delivery times, etc. i give all of you a great credit for your informative and peaceful posts. thanks

I got the 7y-100mile "added Care" warranty for around $1000....This is the middle D/C warranty which is the same as the top of the line without the trip interruption allowance....it also has a 50$ deductible....You should be able to bargain for the X-warranty..and remember you dont have to buy it from the selling dealer....So Shop around...

Some other folks have went with X-Warranties through 3rd parties or their credit unions/banks... Mabey some of them will share...Im kind of partial to OEM warranties but that is just me...Side note---> I'm also partial to 5-spds which i found out that i was the only person in North and south Carolina that apparently wanted one because there was not asingle 4.7/5sp in either state available...

Fender Flares---> should be around $200-225 from the Parts Dept...Pick up a truck acc book the next time you stop by the dealer...Who knows...Mabey you can get him to throw them in for free or at a VERY discounted price...

Thast what i did...Make a list of everything extra you want and after you settle on a price on the truck...Start bargaining for the accessories...Youll be surprised at how the sales dept will sell things SUPER cheap from the parts dept in order to move the truck...Im sure the parts guys hate it but thats between them..

    Good Luck

Towcrazy, 1meyer1.....I appreciate your opinions here, seems we are all three on the same page! Early in the morning, I'm going to take the aftermarket wheels/tires off the F350 in preparation for trading it in. This whole process was started by what some would term a mid life crisis. I decided to buy another sports car now that I am in my mid 40's and can afford it. To make room in the garage, I must get a smaller truck. The sports car, a manual transmission by the way, is ordered and should be here in late July/early August, hence the time problem. None the less, I am very excited about the Quad Cab, the extended test drive I took Saturday was most impressive.

Badassbob.....I feel your pain! What is with these dealers not ordering the 4.7L 5 speed combination for stock?

MaybeQuad2000.....Unless your dealer is able to work miracles of Biblical proportions, I suggest you either opt for a 2001 or try to find what you want in dealer stock. Chrysler should guarantee your 2000 price if you allow the order to be rolled over to a 2001, assuming you can wait until September to get it.

Truck is great.4.7 auto 4x4. 14.5 mpg. The only problem is the dip stick for tranny doesn't stay seated down on the filler tube, Ihave read other post on this and was wandering if anyone has gotten a fix for this. If anyone is considering the quad GO FOR IT this is one great truck.
  • towcrazy2towcrazy2 Member Posts: 337
    Tex,
I can relate to your dabbling with the sports car... My personal weakness happens to be Harleys, but the important thing is that those of us in our mid- to upper 40s have a toy to play with!!!

Getting out of the F-350 and into the Quad (as I out of the Ram and into the QC), I might humbly suggest that the QUAD itself is going to FEEL like a "sports car!" I think you'll be amazed by the power, the R&P steering and the "flat" ride!

All.. my green SLT+ 4.7/auto, 2WD report card at 3400 miles is A+. Not a problem to report. I did fix the molding on the rear doors (between front and rear) with a little elbow grease and new 3M tape. sticks like "new". It was better than wasting time at the dealer, and only cost under $4. Now, I need to see about oil changes and any other required check-ups. Any Suggestions on what is best for Oil or other checks to keep it in shape?? From reading past posts, there is a wealth of experience out there . Thanks in advance..

ahasher - Can you report on your mileage figures for us?
All - While at the local dealer the other day waiting to take the test drives on the 3.9 and 4.7, I saw a red 00 QC that someone had traded in already. Looked to be a 4.7 auto 4x2 with power accessories; couldn't tell how many miles or much else with the doors locked. But what got my attention (shocked me as a matter of fact)was the tires. All four appeared very worn, especially their outer edges, though the rest of each tire was worn also. Of course, the salesman didn't know anything about it and you don't know if the driver took proper care of his truck. Otherwise it looked like a really nice vehicle. Anybody had any tire wear/alignment problems yet?
  • steve234steve234 Member Posts: 460
I personally would not be in any hurry to get an extended warranty. You can get it at any time and by shopping around, get it cheaper. What I would recommend is that you take the money for an extended warranty and invest it. At the end of the three year regular warranty, you will have a nest egg. You can still get the warranty if you have problems that concern you, or you can let it grow and use it for major repairs that happen. Usually the worst problem that could occur is that the transmission fails. ($1500-2000max)and if you have documentation of a problem, you can usually get an adjustment or better. If nothing goes wrong, you will have a future down payment.
  • iowabigguyiowabigguy Member Posts: 552
The DC warranty is pricy however if you find a dealer who will work with you you can buy the warranty a whole lot cheaper. The dealer cost on the DC extended warranty is 1/2 the retail price. I was quoted $1110 for the 7/75 maximum care warranty with $0 deductable. I settled for an xwarranty by Universal 7/85 for $997 with 50 deductable. Dealer waives the deductable if repairs are made at their dealership
  • texaszachtexaszach Member Posts: 119
Tow, once again your observations are keen my friend. I was blown away during the test drive I took Saturday for the exact reasons you stated. I love my F350 but it handles like a barge and rides like a one ton truck .
I just heard from the dealer, he doesn't have any white ones coming in with the 4.7L, just black and amberfire. That only leaves me with 5 white ones to choose from, both SLT Pluses and Sports. Sooooo, we are going to get together either later this afternoon or first thing in the morning and get this deal done.

On having toys, its been way too long since I have had one, but the time if fast approaching! I haven't owned a bike in about 10 years, sold my last one because of the hazards of riding in Dallas traffic, what a nightmare.

    MaybeQuad2000....any news with your situation?

Take care and be safe all...

If you have been following the sagas of several of us on here, then you probably know that the cutoff for ordering a QC was May 5th. Your dealer should have had plenty of time to re-order the truck IF he had the allocation from Dodge. All that aside, I will take a shot at your questions.
The Heavy Duty Service group consists of a 136 amp alternator, 750 amp battery and maximum engine cooling. Even if you are not towing a trailer I would think the maximum engine cooling to be a good thing. I also think that ordering Air Conditioning would include maximum engine cooling.
Those in the know say there are no big changes coming for the 2001 QC, except for the usual price increase.
I don't think the dealers will have any concrete information for a few more weeks on the 2001 model. I was told that production would start around the middle of August.
I'm sure others here will have something to offer as well.

    Good Luck,

    Zach

badassbob - Saw your posting about the 7 year 100k extended warranty for approx $1000 and a $50 ded. Does this warranty cover repairs caused by a covered part failure that in itself was caused by a non-covered part? Did you get it from the dealer that sold you the truck or one of the other's that are on the web?
    Thanks
  • bpeeblesbpeebles Member Posts: 4,085
Be careful when you speak of the HD service group.

I looked into it extensivly and opted NOT to get it. I looked under a LOT of Dakota hoods at 5 different dealers and visually verified my findings.

The 4.7 BY DEFAULT comes with the beefier alternator and the V8s all come with the bigger battery. The multispeed tranny BY DEFAULT has a cooler in front of the radiator too. The only thing your money buys is the POWER STEERING COOLER.

That is a pretty expensive power steering cooler when looked at from that perspective.

Does anyone have a reason to beleive that my research is flawed? (DO NOT ASK A DEALER...THEY ARE TRYING TO SELL YOU SOMTHING)
  • iwantmyquadiwantmyquad Member Posts: 17
I called again today, and my truck still hasn't hit the gate - code BG after a 17 Apr order (See Post# 314 for my full details). My dealer promises to have an answer from the factory by Wednesday. D/C is still spouting something about a restriction on the V6 engine (I ordered 4.7L) and the Tire & Handling Group (I ordered 4x4 w/ 31x10.5 tires - SLT Plus). I thought from a few postings recently that this had been resolved. Any thoughts??

    HD Service Group:
I think the Kelly Blue Book Specs say all. See www.kbb.com to get codes and pricings. The HD service group includes a beefier alternator, battery and HD Engine cooling for both standard and 4-speed auto. In addition to these, the auto gets an auxiliary tranny cooler. The power steering cooler is added for 2-wheel drive models. Invoice prices are $102 for 5-speeds and $153 for 4-speed autos.

I think the aux tranny cooler is absolutely essential if you are going to do any towing at all with an auto tranny.

I'm thinking of switching to Mobil 1 at 3000 miles..(I have about 1400 now) Normally with a new vehicle, I change the oil & filter 3 times (every 1000 miles), then every 3000 miles forever thereafter.
I drive about 600-700 miles a week (long commute and weekend errands), so oil & filter changes occur about 12 times a year. (With my 1995 and 1999 Neons, that was 71 oil & filter changes.) I'VE NEVER USED SYNTHETIC OIL. With mostly freeway miles, the condition of the used oil & filters was always minimal. (I guess I'm saying it looked just slightly dirty, just enough to show that it was doing its job.)
However, since the 4.7l (and all newer motors) are manufactured to tighter and tighter tolerances, I'm theorizing that the requirements for multi-viscousity are mainly based on avoiding startup wear and to enhance gas mileage. With this treatment and care, my vehicles tend to look a lot nicer than the miles on the odometer would indicate. For instance, my 1995 Neon with 167K looked like a vehicle with 35-40k. At trade-in 2 weeks ago, my 1999 R/T with 41k looked brand-new, save a couple stone chips on the hood.(Weekly washes and always keeping your cars in the garage helps too.) So where am I going with this babbling? I'm wondering what this board's opinions are regarding using a synthetic-whether I'll net anything positive by switching the quad onto a steady diet of Mobil 1. If so, would a different (better) filter also provide a benefit? I usually use a Fram or Napa "Gold". I know the expense will at least double, since I'm used to spending about $10 at each oil & filter change. Feel free to direct me to the cheapest place to buy Mobil 1. (Costco? Wal-Mart? etc.) Sorry for the long post, thanks for any advice, pointers, criticism, thoughts, or just meaningless truck-babble....

Am I the only one who HATES the fact that every car manufacturer puts the factory oil filter on with a gazillion pounds of force? GEEZ! This usually means that I have to spend the dreaded $28 on the 1st oil change to have it done at the local "oil changers." OK, I ranted...
Defects to date (1400 miles) will all be addressed on Thursday by dealer:
    1) Squeaky/creaky front power bench seat.
    2) Loose bolt at rear pasenger side wheelwell.
    3) Weatherstrip at driver's door bottom (attached to door) fell half-off during 1st wash.
    4) Loose big plastic button on bottom engine shroud, under fan, just behind front air dam on passenger side. (button ain't holdin' squat.)
    Side note/question:
Bought the sill protectors. Will also buy the foglight kit. (Apparently there are 2 different kits, depending on whether you have the cargo/dome light roller switch on the headlight bezel-i do.)
Does anybody know where I can get better prices on Mopar stuff than the dealer? Kollerdodge.com carries a lot of Mopar stuff at about a 20% discount to Mopar list prices, but they don't list the kit.
    Mileage update:
    Avg shown by computer is 18.3 (4.7l w/auto, 3:55)
If you've seen my previous blathering posts, you've seen my comments about the computer's average mpg being about 5-10% off, based on miles driven and gallons required to fill up the tank.
Has anyone else been able to verify actual mileage, and has anyone else noticed that at 1/8 tank, there is still 5-6 gallons left, instead of what should be (24/8) 3 gallons?? I admit I've been driving very conservatively (except for blowing off the occasional Chevy/Ford truck that is foolish enough to challenge me..).
    Any thoughts??
    Mileage observations:
With AC on, mileage drops 1 mpg on gentle upgrade and on the flat...however, on a steep incline with foot off the gas, computer's current mpg indicator will only zoom up to 50-65 mpg, as opposed to 75-83 mpg...(like I should complain about that)
It's been around 101-104 degrees here in the Central Valley these last 3 days..
I'm impressed with the power still available with the AC on, the drop is almost imperceptible.
Best mileage seems to be acheived at speeds between 55-70 mph. Speeds higher than 70 causes wider variations as you experience gentle upgrades and downgrades:
    55-70 mph=fluctuations between 18-28 mpg.
    70-80 mph=fluctuations between 16-24 mpg.
    Enough wasted bandwidth for now...

Quark99-just like you I am looking for advise on what oil and filters to use. I my Ram I used a Synthetic blend and Puralator filters.(sorry if the spelling is wrong) I also at every 25,000 miles added a quart of the Slick 50 engine treatment. I have 1150 miles on my Quad so an oil change is in the near future so if anyone has an opinion on what to use let me know.

Also yesterday if finally found my oil filter on my 4.7, with some help from posts from this site. Now someone tell me how to reach my hand up there with an oil filter wrench to get the thing off. Then how do I do it with out spilling oil all over the place.

Once again, for those of you who need information to access Daimler/Chrysler customer service, I am posting a link that not only will help reach D/C, it will offer the status codes as well. I suggest that once this appears, that you "cut and paste" to a word processing page for reference. Here goes

First let me give Bookitty a belated congrats on the acquisition of his Quad. Good things come to those who wait. Next I'd like some advise. I've been looking at the Lund and Extang bed covers for my truck. They seem pretty simple enough. My 2 questions are whether anyone has had experience with either and do all the soft tonneau covers have the straps so you can secure them rolled up at the front of the bed?? If not, which ones do?? Also looking at the Go Rhino grill/brush guards. With regard to the synthetic oil switch, I'd like to advise that at our police department (I do fleet maintenance) I switched to synthetics about 2 years ago and spread the oil change intervals out to about 5-6000 miles with no problems. Also, we aren't putting the vehicle out of service as often so it's more convenient. Still getting 100,000 miles out of 'em, using about 1 qt every 3000 miles, which is normal. Happy Quadding!

Be patient, Mine was ordered in March and I am still in BG status. Some orders go real quick, but you will probably have a wait ahead of you.

Quark99: I have had some people I trust recommend a blended oil (synthetic/natural). I would definitely not use a Fram filter. I prefer the Motorcraft filters. Wal-Mart is probably going to be cheaper, but shop around, sales and some smaller retailers can yield good prices.

Another 2 cents on the Heavy Duty Service Group... I would agreed with Tex that it's a worthwhile investment whether or not you do a lot of trailering.

I'm not familiar with the 4.7 units or what they might be have "by default" without the HD Group. I can only suggest what you get with the HD versus "standard" on the 5.9 QC:

    -- 750-amp (versus 650) battery
-- Alternator with higher charging capacity
-- Auxilliary trans and oil coolers (versus integral)
-- Larger radiator (more cooling surface)

To my knowledge, there is no power steering cooler in the HD group.

My experience? Well, I ordered it in my '95 Ram with 5.9, and the truck went 5-1/2 years with no problems... Still on the original battery... Never a transmission problem... Operating temperatures never left the "safe" zone.

I'm sure there are valid arguments against it, depending upon your driving habits, applications and weather conditions.

As for myself, I tow a trailer infrequently, but on those one or two trips a year, it's a LONG drive that can take me from below-zero to temps well into the 90s. I see the HD group as sort of the "mechanical equivalent" of an extended service plan... Just as I see that $30 engine heater as cheap insurance in my environment.

    TEX:
You jumped out of the F-350 1-ton and into the Quad... I can only imagine that the difference in steering and handling preciseness was almost "scary!" I've been back and forth between the 1/2-ton Ram and the Quad for a couple of weeks, and each time I jump into the Quad, it takes a few miles to adjust to the flat handling and tight steering... Also noticed the conspicuous absence of the truck's tendency to "scoot" to left or right over surface irregularities!

I KNOW you'll be enjoying what I am: The idea of driving as a pleasure rather than the "work" it can be in the big ones.

I noticed in a previous post you said you saw 1700rpm @ 60mph. If I recall you have 4.7 5spd 3.55 t/h 4x4. I have same specs except 4x2 and I see 2000rpm @60mph. I verified by crawling under the Quad that I do have the 3.55lsd (noticed it is a 9 1/2 ring gear as opposed to the 8 3/8" in my 93CC w/5.2) Are the 31.5 tires that much taller to account for a 300 rpm difference? The 255/65r15 measure about 27 1/4" high. Color me curious. Rick

power steering cooler is in the Heavy Duty group for 4x2 only, I have it on mine. I don't know why it is excluded on 4x4. Rick

Forget my previous message, had a brainfart. The 31.5 in your tire size is the diameter. I did some rough figuring and came out to about 1750rpm for your tire size, didn't take into consideration the decrease in diameter when the tire is deformed under the trucks weight. Your tire combo is the equivalent to my tires with a 3.21 rear end (ballpark). So if you had taken your 1st Quad with the 3.92 gears you would have been turning about the same rpms at 60mph as my truck with the 3.55 and 255/65x15 tires. If you ignore the drag from the 4x4 you could get better gas mileage on flat and level against a 4x2 with the same gears, conversely my Quad is faster than yours to 60mph. Wanna drag? Rick

Seriously thinking of getting a Regular or Club Cab Dakota R/T. Has anyone heard any positive or negative feedback on this truck.

I like the performance aspect of the truck and the bed seems like it would be a plus in the cargo area. I'm not planning on towing or hauling a great deal of weight, so that's not any real consideration for me.

The fact that I can get great performance for under $24,000 really appeals to me. I've never owned a truck and was actually considering a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP.

    Anyway hope someone can help.

btw: Is insurance any higher on Pick-up trucks than passenger cars.

Haddon....The dipstick not seating properly can cause you some problems,as it did me. Mine puked
fluid out onto the engine and down the bellhousing. Took it to two dealers. Was told the dipstick was not a problem .Owners manual states
dipstick must be seated properly to keep out dirt
and water. My solution was to install an L shaped bracket secured to the fill tube with a small
hose clamp. Then used tiewire to hold dipstick in
place wired to the bracket. Cheap fix for what
could be potential problem .Good Luck

Well guys, I am in trouble. Called to check my status today and was told my quad was still on hold. When they couldn't tell me why, I had them check and the order hadn't been updated for two weeks. I then tried to call the dealership and got no answer. To make a long story shorter. Dealer (Key in Miami, OK) folded. DC will transfer my order to another dealer, but the next dealer was several hundred higher and indicates he may not honor my agreement if he doesn't like the price. I am also out my $500 deposit. Before I start burning my bridges, I could use some advise. My thoughts are to get the vehicle while I can and fight with DC over the added cost. I may be out the money, but I don't see options. I couldn't get a better deal before and sure won't now, plus having to wait for a 2001 model. Any suggestions would be appreciated, or who to contact before I get the lawyer involved.

Do you have a signed contract? You say DC will transfer the order but then, imply they already did and this dealer wants more $?
I would be interested to know what Dodge customer service says about the $500, and you may have to take to a higher level at customer service and explain your situation, which, while certainly not occuring often, can't be unique. I would request what their policys (and recommendations) are when a dealership bellyups with a deposit on a new vehicle order.
Man I thought this kind of stuff only happened to me. Post all the details asap.

Sorry to hear about your latest dealer status. I just wish the dealer was merely a showroom, and you ordered online. Who needs these idiots. You were told the dealer folded?!? March right down there and demand some service. Least of all demand your money back and work with D/C to get that order transferred to a decent dealership. Supposedly, my district manager is getting my order pushed up higher in the line-up at the gate. We'll see. I'm still holding out for this 2000 model. I can't wait much longer. I keep seeing them everywhere except my driveway.

Okay, so you want to drag. I figure that my truck
will have been properly broken in by the time the first snowfall hits 24". Then we'll drag. You may be correct, it could have been 1750 RPM, but it did look like 1700 RPM. Without my reading glasses, I wouldn't want to bet but the increased
wheel diameter is considerable enough to make a difference. When I took delivery of the Quad with
the 3.92 rears I could tell immediately when I let
out the clutch. It was a real grunt.

It probably was 1700, I made some guesses on diameter and rounded some numbers in my calculations. 24" of snow, I'll have to pass. That much snow and I won't move from in front of the fireplace, let alone drive my Quad. Rick

amend1 - I installed an EXTANG soft cover last week on my quad. The SABER (snapless - j hook) was my choice over the BLACKMAX or CLASSIC for the clean look. I got it from www.accessconnect.com/extang.htm, "free" shipping in 3 days and took me all of 30 min to install. PERFECT fit and tight, with wide bow bars and all aluminum frame. It has the 2 velcro strips to roll it up at the cab. Cost: $209!! If you are looking for soft vs hard covers, check out EXTANG. Hope this helps...

also I will post mileage after 3400miles. Thinking K&N filter and flowmasters next.. shortly..

Towcrazy, Bookitty, 1meyer1 and the rest of the Quad Gang here...
I don't have much time right now, have a customer on the way to the shop. I've been gone all afternoon. I bought a Quad today, more info to follow, I will post later this evening when I'm not pressed for time.

Sorry, but I needed to vent. I stopped following this discussion shortly after ordering my vehicle. on 4/28. However, I got a call tonight from carorder.com the 4.7 engine is no longer being made for 2000 and my order cannot go through. My choices is to change engines, which I don't want to do. Adjust my options and try to locate a vehicle already on the lot (what I'm going to try) or wait until 2001 models. (not preferable). Oh well no use getting upset, I can't change it. But I wish I could still get what I had ordered. :-(

So if anyone knows of a 4.7 4x4 Quad on a lot somewhere I'ld appreciate a note with the dealer phone number. My email is in my profile. Thanks in advance for any help.

What's this problem with changing the Oil on the 4.7L Engine? (Post #346). I just test drove both the 3.9L and the 4.7L and the V8 is really great. I didn't think of looking for the Oil Filter since almost every Truck/Jeep I've owned has it mounted on the side of the engine. Do we have to remove a Skid Plate?
I think I'll cruise by the Dealer later this week and take a closer look!
