If you're getting a $50k MSRP car for $498/month including tax at 8.875% in your zip code, with truly just $498 due at signing, you're getting a very good deal. That's like paying about $44k for the car, less another $6k in the incentives, so you're at $38K starting value, then residual is $22.5k (45% of $50,000), so $15,500 of depreciation (principal).

Then you add tax on $17,400 + the $6,000 incentives which is about $2,100 (that's the one kick in the pants about the Dodge "incentives" is they are taxable, while a discount isn't). Technically there isn't tax on the actual DMV charges, but the interest is really $920, so this kind of washes out..

$17,400 + 2,100 = 19,500 / 39 months is $500. (I really didn't plan this come out as a round number when I started doing this)

Lesson learned -- any why you should always ask here: The selling dealer marked up the money factor from .00016 to .00042, which increased monthly payments by $14-15 (which over 42 months is about $600 that they totally hid in the deal). Based on something I saw online, the dealer gets 80% of that, and Chrysler Capital keeps 20% (since not all loans/leases go full term).
