finishing the job seems to be a problem nowadays. my neighbor had to get the trunk of her new mustang painted recently. not only did they not get the adhesive from the masking tape off the paint around the wheel wells...they didn't do a good job painting the car and then...get this. they DID wash the whole car (it's black by the way) only, they dried it with freaking paper towels. so, now she has a million miniscule scratches in her clearcoat. duh!!! and these guys are a body shop!!! that's why you use a chamoix to dry your vehicle. towels, be they paper or cloth will put small scratches in your paint. the chamoix will not. needless to say, she showed the manager, and is getting it redone for free. it's just a shame that in the first month of ownership, the dealer had the car more than she did, by a count of about 3 weeks to 1.

Obyone,
Not saying I'm right or wrong on this, but my experience with K&N filters is that they don't filter as well as paper. After getting grime in my intake a few years back, I'm sticking with paper. A few layers of cotton gauze, if you don't oil it enough, dirt goes right through. If you over-oil it, oil gets sucked in. In my case, the grime looked to have oil and dirt. Another problem I found on a different filter was poor sealing at the gasket. Tiny holes to you and me, but looked like the Grand Canyon to specks of dirt. Better luck for you I hope, but I'm not taking any more risks. Paper flows good when new.

By the way, a guy mentioned a photo site (had Wieck in the name) late last week on this site. I went looking around on it and found some photos of a 2001 GMC Sierra C-Series. Had some nifty additional interior features, CD changer; stereo controls on steering wheel, etc. I've asked my salesman to look into this C-series to find out if some of these interior features will be available on the Silverado's for 2001.

New show on TNN by Dave and Sam. Doing a special on installing "active suspension on the new Silverado" next weekend. New show is called Chrome and Crank or something like that. Wonder if Shadetree Mechanic is gone, now?
Obeyone - yup, balance weights on the driveshaft.
Bed's - Real trucks use a rubber bed mat (Penda) and diamondplate front and rear bed covers (BetterBuilt).
2001 Crew Cab - 6.0L HP is still TBA. My order did not get allocated from my dinky dealer last week. Hope for this week.
Mldje - Do you use 1st gear for starts when unloaded or skip and start in 2nd on your new truck?
Colors - I love my white truck with Peanut Butter Oak interior.
Ryanbab - Still LOL about your "Car"mine red color being for old codgers.
The meadow green isnt a bad color not many out there maybe thats why its gone for 2001.

Yeah 304 miles in 10 days. I've been too busy to drive the truck. I've got to finish my fence and transfer all the camper mounts and stuff from the old truck to the new truck before vacation starts late next week. All that stuff is done, so now I can get the 500 miles in and change the oil and go on vacation. Next monthe at this time I'll have 6000 miles on the truck.
I haven't filled it up yet so I don't know about he mileage. I'm getting about 100 miles/quarter tank, so I'm hoping for 15-16mpg empty, around town. But I don't know. I'll let you know next week.
Markbuck,
So far I start out in first. I suspect I always will. 2nd is just a little too high for my taste. I don't have to give it any throttle, just ease out the clutch and drive away. By the weekend I'll have the camper on and see how that goes.
Later,

..Skip a K/N...stay with stock filters that actually filter dirt.
and #207...hey young buck...as for that what you think about trucks and sex......from now on we are on a need to know basis....and we didn't need to know that!
LOL

BTW..as mentioned...if I don't like the new Orange...I will have an LT custom painted Carmine/Gold if I have to..
get the orange and have an 01 painted on the side and a confederate flag on top hahaha that would look sweet.
Ryan
You may be right, but in my family we always change the oil at 500 miles. My dad has been a mechanic forever, and we change the oil early to get any contamination (that might have been in the engine) out. Any casting sand, machinging chips, etc. With modern production methods, it is probably not needed, but I will continue to do it.
It is only once in the life of the vehicle and it only costs $10.
After the initial change, I will follow the oil minder light on the truck. Mobil 1 after 5000 miles. AC filters only. Mobil synthetic grease also.
Mike L
PS: ryan, glad your truck came out looking OK. A little cleanup is not a big deal, but lousy body/paint work is.
My dad has been a mechanice for 27 yrs working on heavy machinery, bulldozer, forklifts, cranes and such we didnt change our 2000 blazers oil till it had 3200 mls on it. Has about 7000 and no problems. I guess we cant be changed in what we have done for years. Im not driving mine hard yet i stress yet ill wait till about 2500 mls then ill go full force start towing maybe and stuff. I need to make mucho dinero this summer i wanna buy a boat next yr.
HEY anyone know how much and whats the website for the zaino wax? A few more wks and im gonna take a day off and wax my truck.

I agree with the stock replacement. I would not consider replacing stock filter with a K&N. The only reason that I have one is that it came with the Airaid setup. I also have reservations about over oiling/under oiling filter and have not cleaned mine as of yet to avoid the reoiling.
Change it now as people have said. We are your friends..most with much more automotive history than you...but if you don't want to take any advice....hey..A.M.T.!
...as for the 01 thing....I got a better Idea....YOU do it.
- Tim
all. 6 bags of cement an' all. good luck on this
one too!
thanks for the response bud.
...red
Thanks for the Zaino site.
Tim: Nah the 01 only goes with the orange my truck is blue itll look funny. No i didnt spend countless hours under a hood i was on a basketball court playing pretty much 7 days a wk.
As for letting the Oil go....again..A.M.T.!
- Tim
As someone who keeps cars and trucks far longer than average, I'd say that is essentially bull. Sure it won't hurt anything if you change it at 500 miles, but in the last 25 years my family has mot changed oil before 3000 miles (escept on a local rebuild) and no engine has had problems. Typical mileage at sale or trade? 185,000 miles.
Modern engines don't have much junk in them from the factory. If they did, they'd tell you to change it sooner. If an oil filter filled up with crap so much that it went into bypass mode, that's a LOT of crap, and the engine would have fried by then anyway.
(Fram filters excepted. They go into bypass mode when new ...)

The deduction from this would be that anyone using a Fram would have a fried engine since it goes into bypass mode when new? And it doesn't take a lot of crap to cause the filter to go into bypass mode...just lousy filter element. Even the expensive, recommended filters are probably in bypass by 3000 miles...Fram just does it in 300. Now imagine the small metal shavings and the broken down cellulose filter element plus the glue all floating around in your engine...My $.03

I.M.T. = Its my Truck
D.W.A.M.T = Don't Worry About Me Tim
Im sure everything will be just fine. Ill compromise at 2000 mls ill probably change mine alright???
Ryan
Probably not needed, but like Richard said, it won't hurt.

Tues the 14th they put it in the computer and it was accepted.
March 21st i got a TPW of april 10th
truck was actually built april 6th and arrived at the dealership on april 10th.
Kinda wierd but thats how it went they told me it wouldnt be more than 2 wks for a TPW but wiht you ordering a 2001 it might be longer so hes probably just saying 3 wks to save his butt just thunk if he told you a wk wouldnt you be upset if u didnt get one then??
Good luck
Ryan
Ryan, you & I of of the minority with the oil change @ 3000 miles, but that's what I have always done & no problems, BUT it is a personal choice of the individual owner because I.T.T. (it's their truck) filters only filter 10% of the oil at a time so there is always something floating around in there.
Steve, As for the idiot light , I changed my oil @3000 miles & GM's invention had not yet activated, I did not reset what wasn't there so I will wait & see when the idiot light comes on. Now had I chose to wait till GM told me when to change the oil (by way of this light) I'd still be waiting for the MANUFACTORER'S suggested oil change interval, but my personal choice is @3000 mile intervals because I.M.T. (it's my truck)

Yea that tire thing sucked i closed my eyes and drove. My mom was in the back sleeping and it woke her up it hit so loud. That ext cab must be comfy everyone wants to ride back there. DOgg loves it back there but hes banned to much dogg hair to clean up.
Ryan
SAVE the environment use less oil think about your kids
haha i will never own an electric vehicle
Ryan
so...
I.M.B.O.T.!!
(it must be our truck)
...had no idea that would catch on so good?
New engines are tighter than before..but I still feel there are shavings...as well as the residual gunk from when the engines are put together. See Ryan my man...all the parts are "greased" up in a lube like substance...so when the engine first starts up...it's not bone dry throughout.
Whenever we stuck a cam in or any time we used the goop...we changed the oil after that.
...Course you don't learn this on the court..
Get angry if you must..but hey..we are just trying to help you out...with our knowledge and opinions.
You give yours...why can't we give ours?
again...A.M.T.!
- Tim
BTW Ryan...to check the tire pressure....you unscrew the cap on the valve stem...now see the little center stem?....unscrew that small piece until it is all the way out....you will hear the air flowing....it will now "adjust" itself just fine.
Let me know how it goes.
the "Ultimate Driving Machines" They and
all the articles can brag about the great
resale but on my 14 months car with 8000
miles I'm loosing 30%+ D*!#. Went to 6 dealers
in town and surrounding area all within a $1000. Saturday going to see if can sell and pocket money
till new Chevy arrives. In my looking have
found similar 1999 Silverados LS Rg cab with
prices same as what I paid for my
2000 LS. In fact one was higher and had fewer options. Going to east coast in a few weeks
so I'll just take my truck!!!. Doubt any
interested but it just P.O.'s.
On oil I just had a freebie service but before
took in checked was right on the mark and
looked just as clean as when new, filter
must had still been doing a good job. Mileage
was just over 3000. Only problen had was
tires which is really Goodyears.
German engineering is great and handling
superb, but geeze, I even test drove a 540
series for trade est and the BMW dealer was
the lowest offer, its their product even!!!!
Oh well vented now!!!

This salesman has sort of given me the run around and I would just feel better knowing the order is actually in Chevrolet's possession. He said he was going to order it today... but why am I not confident it has been done?
Thanks.
