How do I get the prompt to enter my code to activate my audio system?

I replaced my battery and got the prompt to enter my code to activate my audio system. However, I entered the wrong code and now I don't get the prompt anymore.

How do I get the Navigation system to prompt me for the code?

Have you tried disconnecting the negative battery terminal for a few minutes? Does any type of message appear, such as "error" or "safe"?

I wanted to avoid messing with the (new) battery. While I know that contacting a battery in operation (i.e. when the engine's running) can be dangerous is there any danger of damage to either the battery or me if I do this with the engine off?

No, I don't think so, although I would turn off everything that uses electric power. This includes all your lights and everything on the dashboard. It's possible you might notice some irregularities in the initial running of the car until it relearns your driving habits. It varies among cars. If in doubt, consult your owner's manual.

If your car radio is permanently locked up for some reason, and won't take a code, then there's really no solution except to remove it and have it bench tested.

After searching the manual I found the solution: when CODE appears above the audio system it's ready for input, so I was able to enable the audio system yesterday. Thanks for your interest in my problem!
