My dealer offered 3/36 for $1079. I told him no way. He upped it to 72/100,000 "Platinum all inclusive" 250 deductible. I bit.

My last Dodge the tranny went out at 58,000. I paid $500 for the warrenty of 5/60,000. The tranny bill was $560. Considering the warrenty was added to the loan, I probably paid more than $60 in finance charges but I did not have to come up with $560 when it broke.

Hi to everybody. Since weeks I follow the discussions here. My topic is slidly different.
    I'm living in Germany and try to buy a Dakota QC/4x4/white/shorted springs/big tires(275)/black leather/CD Radio/sliding rear window/ aso.
I would like to find a dealer in US.
Coming via Dodge home page, I can't get contact.
    Can somebody help me????
    Many thanks, Klaus

Klaus, hello and guten tag. I spoke to the manager
at my dealership, and he told me that under agreement with Dodge (Daimler/Chrysler) a U.S. dealer may not sell overseas. In order for you to purchase a vehicle from a U.S. dealer, you would have to come here, have a U.S. address and valid insurance as well as paying all taxes. It does not sound as if it would pay you to do all this. I will include the web site for my dealer as well as the name of the Dodge Truck manager. The web site is (click on it) www.reedman.com and the manager's name is Joe Natriello. Hope this helps. Please feel free to join us on the Dodge Dakota owner's club. It can be accessed via the conferences window on the left hand margin near the top of each topic listing page. Good luck and feel free to E mail me if you need other information.

I bought my extended warranty through my credit union. I think it cost $750 for 5yr 100K $50 ded. I understand that there are some other good 3rd party people out there put I preferred to get the warranty where I had the truck financed. If you belong to a CU you may to check with them.

    Good luck.

That Garnet is sharp--ordered my 2001 end of June and have been waiting--got the call yesterday. My beauty was in. 4.7,Garnet, with the works. Over $30,oooMSRP and Paid $26,401. You probably still can buy at invoice--forget MSRP. It will take about 8-10 weeks if you order. Of course this depends upon where you live-probably. Go for it. It's a great TUV.

Thanks carls5. I'll have to check that out. My wife works in a division of a large credit union.

Hy Bookitty, thanks for your reply. Yes I know I have to come to US for buying a car, but first of all I would be happy to get some brochures to read about and make my detailed configuration.
Years ago I got a Corvette at the same way. In this time I had somebody in NY handling the deal.
You know it could be also a "used car" if he has my selected options. If your dealer could send to me broch. and the option list with prices I would come back with an featured config.
May be you will ask him.
    Many thanks in advance, Klaus

Klaus, you can get information via the following URL. www.4adodge.com. You can get retail and invoice prices for the vehicles and options by clicking on the following URL. www.carsatcost.com you can actually build and price the truck (or any American manufactured vehicle) through this site. It works through the very same system that the car dealers utilize. I'll see if the dealer will send you a brochure. There are at the present time, no used vehicles of this type in inventory. I will contact my dealer, and if he is willing to work with you, I will E mail you for exact address, etc. Your English far exceeds my German.

I have 2000 dakota quadcab with the 4.7 auto with 355 gears and lsd, from everything I have read the speed limiter should be at 112mph,My dakota shuts off at 98mph anyone else tested there speed limiter?

I am considering purchasing a Dakota Quadcab 2WD with 5 speed, 4.7L V8. The vehicle will be used primarily as an around town comuter but it will also be used as a tow vehicle for a 2000 lb tent trailer. This trailer may later be upgraded to a trailer in the 3500-4000lb range (fully loaded). The guestion is, would I be better off with the 3.55 diff or the 3.92?? What milage differences should I expect between the two ratios in normal commuting??

    Thanks for the help

DesMoines Chrysler-Plymouth is selling the DC warranties online at pretty good prices.
Remember the difference between the "Added Care" and the "Max Care" is "Max Care" includes trip interruption protection.

(brutus10) I cannot give you exact MPG differences but here is something to consider.

If your "around town" does not mean "stop-n-go"
and you are comfortable with a clutch then go with the 5.55 ratio to achieve the best MPG.

If you are willing to 'sacrifice' some (hitherto unknown) MPG hit. The 3.92 will give you more 'zip' in the accelleration and reduce clutch wear under all conditions.

Truly occasional towing will make little difference in your overall 'drive time' thus should not be a big concern when selecting a differential ratio.

The 2000 models MANDATED a LSD rear-end when the 4.7 with 5speed tranny were selected. Is this still the case?

IF YOU ARE IN THE N.Y. AREA, STAY AWAY FROM NORTHERN DODGE IN QUEENS. WHEN MY LONG AWAITED TRUCK CAME IN, THEY ADDED PHONEY CONSUMER FEES ON THE BILL, WHICH WAS NOT LISTED ON THE INVOICE.I TOLD THEM TO SHOVE THE TRUCK YOU KNOW WHERE AND TOOK MY MONEY TO OLD COUNTRY DODGE IN HICKSVILLE, AND THEY FOUND ME AN IDENTICAL TRUCK FOR LESS THAN THE OTHER CLOWNS WERE CHARGING. I COMPLAINED TO DAIMLER-CHRYSLER ABOUT THE SHAKEDOWN AND THEY COULDN'T BE BOTHERED ABOUT IT. SO MUCH FOR THE BS 5 STAR RATING.

I have a 2000 Quad with the 5 speed and V8, 3.55 ratio. I do not have the LSD, or at least I did not pay for it. Not sure if you get the 3.92 ratio then you must have LSD.

  • bpeeblesbpeebles Member Posts: 4,085
(knkresort) Interesting... I know that the computer at 2 different dealers INSISTED on the LSD when the 4.7 + 5SP was selected. The dealers said it was for SAFETY reasons. (Wheelspin control) Additionally, my research on the internet confirmed this fact.

I know that when the gas tank gets very low,(Hardly any weight on rear wheels) my rear tires will 'spin' in the first 2 gears using moderate accelleration. (And I have a fiberglas cap on my rig that adds some pounds!) Without the LSD, I would expect this to be much worse.

Have the 4.7L, 5 sp, 3.55 rear, LSD, T&H package and I usually drive 6 miles each way to work everyday. I'm consistent in the 15+ mpg. On a run to BWI airport (100 miles each way), I got 17.9 mpg. This was with the odometer at 300 miles. I now have 4,000 miles since May 4 but I haven't gone on any trips lately.

I want a loaded quad 4x4 and I do not want to pay list. Any suggestions? What will I have to pay? Did anyone out there get a good deal?
  • spike50spike50 Member Posts: 481
Many have posted that they are paying a few hundred over the invoice price. You can spec that out by going to various automotive sites. When you say "List Price" do you mean MSRP - nobody pays that.
  • knkresortknkresort Member Posts: 79
I can very easily spin tires without the LSD. I just have limited need for it in Houston, TX. If it snows down here, I have bigger problems than no LSD. On very wet pavement, I do spin some of the time, but I just have to be a bit more careful.

I would probably purchase LSD in my next truck, but I was alot less knowledgeable back then than I am now. I think LSD is probably the right choice, but nothing I would run out and change, yet...

Other than that, I love the truck.

slippage. My rear tires always chirp or slip (if the traction is marginal) when starting out turning a corner, for example, since they are virtually locked together via the clutchpak - this forces the inside wheel to travel the same speed as the outside wheel causing the inside wheel to break traction. I can attest to it's great staightline performance in the snow, especially when starting out - just be careful when turning corners in low traction conditions.

Robvia, thanks for the photos of the new 2001 interior layout. Does anyone have any photos of the new layout of the door panels and powerlocks and windows?

I'm getting ready to trade in my 98 extended cab for a quad and am curious what other interior surprises are in store. I've driven several of the 2000 quads but not been back lately to look over the 2001.
    Thanks,

has anyone taken delivery of an 01' quad with leather interior? what do you think and what colour did you get? was wondering especially about the new taupe colour. thanks.

I have the Dark Slate (read: very dark grey) and I love it. Although the interior is pretty dark and the pictures didn't come out well, you can see it here:

looks good, fenders! altho you are right, it is a little tough to see. my last two intrepids have had the agate interior (read dark grey) and i'm looking for something lighter this time. if the taupe in the quad matches the taupe colour in the new minis, it should also be quite nice.

It's a 4X4 sport QC Flame Red with everything I wanted except power seats and sliding rear window.

For those about to buy, I would consider the 2000. My dealer offered mine at invoice minus the $750 factory rebate (which doesn't seem to be well advertised). They seemed really anxious to move the 3 or 4 '00s that they had left. I negotiated the price I wanted and signed the paperwork and was told that I could get 9.5 APR through Chrysler on a Friday. Over the weekend I got approvals for 8% from 2 banks. I went back to pick up the truck and was told that the APR would be 10.49% and so the total price was adjusted to compensate. Little did they know that I was going to turn around and refinance at a lower rate with the lower price that they just so graciously gave me. I bought from the lot, so I didn't get exactly what I wanted but I'm sure happy with the price. This is my third Dodge (Ram, Durango) and I think the QC is the best of both worlds. It was the best experience I had buying a Dodge. I guess I just found the right dealer.

I am seriously considering the quad cab. Looking at the brochure seems to indicate that in the 26G package you get the new multispeed auto trans and the 4.7 engine. Any feedback on this? Also would like to know if theis idle problem exists on the '01 year. What is the standard trans, the brochure of the 2000 only shows a multispeed for the auto. My quote for the vehicle has charges for both and I think it shouldn't be added in.
    Would enjoy a reply asap.

I am trying to decide between the F150 Super Crew and this Dodge Dakota Quad Cab. I want leather interior, and KNOW that the F150 has that option, but the dealer told me that the Dodge doesn't, but in some of the writtings above, it sounded like someone was buying one with leather. What country?..Canada? Also, what dealer!? I really like the look of the Dodge over the Ford, but must admit that the room inside the Ford is amazing! Then again, how many times do I use my druck to drive loads of people around?...Not all that much, so I figure the Dodge will be perfect.

Last question, does anyone know anything about Dodge and bad transmissions? Is it true, that they don't have the strongest trany's around and have had problems with them in the past?... Kind of worried about that.
  • tuvtesttuvtest Member Posts: 237
Yes, yes the Dak does offer a leather interior for the QC. (but only in the QC. It is only available on the bucket seats. MSPR is $580 and invoice is $491. Good luck and I hope you chose Dodge.
  • jsten2jsten2 Member Posts: 23
Yes for 2001 leather is an option on the quad cab.
  • emaleemale Member Posts: 1,380
    calguy,

none of the so-called domestic truck makers have sterling reputations when it comes to automatic transmissions. go with what you like the most.
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Jerry, the Dodge Dakota comes standard with a 5 speed transmission (no up charge). The optional automatic transmission is available with most models, and a must with the 5.9 engine. With the 4.7, manual 5 speed is standard and available. As with all options, the standards are listed with the charges for options added in to the base price. From what I have gathered from posts within the general forum and the owner's club, many cases of the intermittent idle problems have been cleared up as the computer begins to recognize the individual's driving habits and the ambient temperatures. I have had no such problem. The Dakota Quad Cab is available with the V8 (4.7) along with manual 5 speed transmission, while the F150 Super Crew is not. The F150 is also a nice truck, although it is larger and costlier. There is also a $500.00 discount coupon available for members of the Farm Bureau (must be member for 30 days prior to taking delivery). You can access that for your particular state at www.fb.com. Offer not valid in HI or OK.

The multispeed is the only automatic offered with the 4.7 and is not available with any other engine. All manufacturers have good automatics and bad ones. DC has had its share of bad ones, but the multispeed looks pretty decent. One problem the domestic manufacturers have is that they have to have a wider variety because of the wider horsepower/usage range they deal with. In the effort to get more efficiency, they have also been coming out with new designs. Sometimes this leads to the first years having glitches which are corrected in subsequent models.
  • bigal31bigal31 Member Posts: 189
Steve 234: I couldn't agree more. It just so happends that I got my recall in the mail today. It has to do with the 45RFE auto tranny vent hose on the 2000 Dakota(in my case the 4.7L) It doesn't sound like a big deal but you never know. Got an appointment for Thursday at 3:00.
I like to look at these sort of things as positive; you know Daimler Chrysler being right on top of anything and everything. To me the glass is half full.

It's Cal again, and I can't find jack about this thing coming with Leather...but I still want to get this truck! I am doing a pretty deep comparison between the Dodge (seems to compare more to a Ranger) and the F150 (seem to compare more to a RAM type), and you guys are the only ones that state that I can get the Dodge with leather. The guy at Huntington Beach Dodge was a JERK, said it doesn't come at all with leather(JERK!), and went further to say they could send it out to an aftermarket place to get leather (DANG HE'S A JERK!). I was like "Heck no JERK, I am getting a Ford and split!" Now that I read your letters, and am STOKED that my favorite truck supposedly comes in leather, I fax this guys cell phone day in and day out (TAKE THAT JERK!). I live in Southern California, and want to punch out that lame salesman, but alas it is illegal in this state, so can someone just point me in a direction to show me proof (catalog or something?) of this so I can get one? Last, does it come with a sunroof option? That lamer said it didn't come with that either (that remindes me, I need to fax that guy again).

Calm yourself Calguy! Don't wanna have a stroke before you get your Truck!!!

If you look at http://www.driveoff.com they show the leather interior option on the 2001 Dak QC.
They did not have the prices in yet last I saw, but I have heard that it goes for around 500.

Also, if you go to the clubs section here, & look at the QC pictures forum, someone posted pictures of their quad with the leather interior.

    Good luck with the salesmen.

Check out Edmunds price guide and carpoint among others. They should be listing the leather interior by now. Also that sales rep should know that the leather interior is in the June 2000 code guide, Dodge Truck/2001 Dakota Quad Cab 4x2 Code Guide/AN1L84 Quad Cab 4x2, page FAN-3:Leather Interior Group (M/H AGU or ATK;AJP and JPS; M/H RAZ or RBB or RBK; M/H *LJ). The code is ADJ. What the other stuff means is that you must have the Sport or SLT Plus group, power convenience group, power seats, CD player radio and bucket seats only.
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Absolutely was on the 2000. I have 5 speed, 4.7, 4X4, LSD, HD Service group, Tire/Handling package and Tow packages + other conveniences and options. If it shows as "restricted", it does not always mean disallowed. It could very well be a restriction due to inventory shortage (as mine was) and you can ascertain that by calling Daimler/Chrysler. I don't know about the 2001, but I can't see any reason why it would be different.

    Calguy,

I too was comparing the F150 and the Dakota QC. In fact I did a lot of research on all 4 door pickups, not just ones out now but those coming out later this year. Can't make the decision for you, but I love my DQC! In comparing, if you haven't did so already, go to Yahoo autos or a similar area where you can do a side by side comparison. I was really surprised at how close the interior sizes are. From looking at the Ford from the outside I would have thought they would be a lot bigger.

Also, about sales people. I found that after some basic researching, I knew more than they did when I walked on the lot. One even tried to tell me you can't believe what you find on the internet. Maybe not everything, but I'll take 4 out of 4 resources agreeing on a subject on the internet over one sales person any day!

    Goodluck, DQCinOKC

Has anyone out there bought a 2000 QC SLT in the D/FW area of Texas in the last month or so? How much (invoice +) are dealers accepting? Any dealer recommendations and help would be appreciated.

i think i've written the quad cab off my shopping list. i like having plenty of back seat room and found the qc kinda confining in this respect. i also wish the front seat had more adjustment as it seemed i was sitting awefully close to the steering wheel, even with the seat all the way back.

I purchased a 2001 QC early last month. Was able to get for invoice +$300. Basically was offered invoice on 2000 QC. Shopped serveral dealers, but did most negotiating at 3 Mid Cities dealers here in DFW. Allen Samuels, Don Davis, and Auto Nation Irving (old Fred Oakley dealership).

Auto Nation: Were I bought. Low pressure, but not very knowledgable sales. Really learned what I needed here on Edmunds. Finance people pulled usuall stunts. Especially watch out for Theft protection package they try to add on. Be firm and you should be able to get what you want. Auto Nation also now owns the Bledso dealerships in Grand Prairie and Garland. May give you a little more inventory to choose from as 2000 inventories are getting low.

Don Davis: Sales same as above, just didn't have the vehicle I wanted. Parts and service departments are very good. Also found the accessories (custom/make ready shop) to be very outstanding. Have purchased accessories there rather the Auto Nation. Could be a good place to buy.

Allen Samuels: My advice is to stay as far away as possible. Worst car buying experience I have ever had. Sales manager must weight 500 lbs. Wonder what he is full of.

    Hope this helps.

Love my Dakota by the way.

I just test drove a 2000 DQC 4x4, 4.7 L, automatic transmission and basically every option available. It was returned to the dealership with 1,700 miles on it (wife left husband after the purchase!). It was never titled, so the $750 rebate is still available. They are asking $27,850. Any suggestions as to what my initial offer should be?
  • jlk08jlk08 Member Posts: 2
Rhys, thanks for the info. What happened at Allen Samuels(they have a 2000 that I want)? Also, you said that you were offered invoice on a 2000 and bought yours for invoice + $300. Did you contact them by phone, fax, or negotiate in person. I'm trying to get a 2000 for the $750 rebate. Thanks.
  • iowabigguyiowabigguy Member Posts: 552
I'd find the invoice price of the vehicle and
subtract $4500 from that price. Remember here you
are dealing with a 1 model year old used vehicle and a dealer who is full of crap! Why do I say that?

#1 if the vehicle was sold it had a title
    transfer.

#2 if it has 1,700 miles it is a used vehicle

#3 if it was owned by a couple of people in the
end phase of a relationship it was probably not
treated with the respect a new vehicle should.

#4 if titled and used it is not eligible for the
$750 rebate. Dealer may be giving you $750 off but
I bet it is not from Chrysler. If it is I would
suspect it was a DEMO (define demo. Well since this isn't the car we are buying, lets see what this baby will do. Demo=abused) If it was a demo now we have proved the dealer lied.

#5 price sounds pretty close to invoice for a New vehicle as described.
I would suggest you find another truck and another
dealer. Of course I could be wrong but the story
sure sounds like Bull to me. Rick
