Factory roof rack swappable

I currently have a 2001 Honda CRV EX with factory installed roof rack, both the parallel and perpendicular rack bars (# shape).

I am looking to get a 2005 CRV LX (give or take a year). I am hoping I am able to swap the roof rack off of the 2001 to the 2005.

Does anyone know if Factory installed rack off of 2001 will fit on a different model year?

The 2001 and 2005 are the same generation CRV so it could probably be installed, but if the 2005 doesn't have any kind of rack you're going to be both dropping the headliner and drilling through the roof--so you'd better know what you are doing. Since you can buy pretty nice roof racks for a few hundred bucks that are universal fits, I'm not sure all this work is worth it. Are you planning to carry something extra heavy, or ???

Actually, 2001 is a GEN I model, and 2005 is GEN II, so they aren't the same vehicle.

I think it's just a mild refresh for 2005, but the same platform as the 2001. I thought 2006 was Gen II ?? It's the one with the rear liftgate rather than the side-opening door.

Gen I 1997-2001
Gen II 2002-2006
Gen III 2007- (beats me)

Gen I, II and III are all markedly different.

I owned a '98 and an '02.
