Charging a premium on top off MSRP sticker

Has anyone run into this? I preordered in March but later found the exact build at another dealership two weeks ago. I called to arrange the lease and they were adding 11k to the sticker because of the interior color. $58,000 because it had Dune interior.

Well, if SOMEONE was willing to pay that premium to get that interior, the dealer is going to try and get it. I'll never understand, the "gotta have it so I'll pay extra" decision.

This is not a new scenario. I can think of many vehicles that have commanded a premium above the sticker price when they were first released. The first Miata, the PT Cruiser, and most AMG or M series vehicles.

Remember, dealers are in the business to make money, and the laws of supply and demand still reign supreme.

Michaell, I understand but when someone has one on order with a deposit and is willing to forego that to buy yours? Now that same car has been on the lot for 3 weeks while others are selling. Mine will be here in 30 days now.

Dealers are free to charge whatever they think the market will bear. You are free to refuse that price, or negotiate one of your own.

Have you negotiated a price for your ordered unit?

I'd certainly wait 30 days to save $11,000!

I saw the same thing. Dealer posted $5k above MSRP for "market value" on the sticker price...unbelievable. Is this a scam or are people supposed to pay this? Also, what is "owner shield"? Was also added to sticker price at dealer on top of MSRP>

"Supposed" to? Only if the customer wants the vehicle bad enough.

Lots of examples in the past 20-30 years of cars selling for higher than MSRP, when they were first introduced. Gotta pay to be the first on your block, I guess.

Remember, dealers often sell cars at prices that make them little, if any, profit. Can you really blame them when a vehicle is introduced that allows them to claw back some of those losses?

    Supply and demand....

When MDX came out in 2001 dealers were getting 3-5K over 30K sticker for the car. I somehow don't get it with a Kia, but that's just me.

Its a very nice car. I want one. Im not even paying MSRP though, I'll hang on till the initial hype has died down and the initial demand is met and they start selling as per normal cars,
