Just wanted to second the notion that the S is definately worth the price (got mine for $35,500 at Ball Acura in San Diego). What an awesome car. Comfort, style and speed in one perfect package. Can't wait to drive it every day.
The info system was moved to the center of the inst. cluster, right obver the steering wheel. it is light blue or white with a black background. last year, was the old orange like the old puter monitors of a hundred years ago.
the guy that got his a 35.5 got it for better than invoice, near as i can tell. course i would have liked a smokin deal like that, but i found the match i wanted so paid the dough. like it enough so it doesnt matter that much.
dont swap the rims though, just be careful. the rims are the most obvious thing that shows you got the real deal
I got mine for 36K. Like I said on another forum as long as you are happy with what you paid that's all that matters. I agree with you on the wheels. At first I was not crazy about them but lately I changed my mind and I think that I'll stick with them. So far I tinted my windows and installed Sirius. Needles to say I love my new ride...
I would not objected had Acura decided to put some beefy meats under those rims, rather than the same ones on the TL. My neighbor just got an ES 350, and it has 215's so maybe i wont complain too much.
did you notice what it says on your windows for the first time i have seen in an acura? wonder if that means they have the 5 mm glass.

As far as you know, does the info system offer any additional customization options v. the one in the regular TL, or the one in the '04-'06 TL? I'm thinking specifically of the keyless entry options. Any way to make the "beep" louder, for example?
Thanks for checking into it! BTW, the "beep" is not loud at all, at least that's the case with my '04. You almost have to stand right next to the car to hear it, which, IMO, defeats its purpose. :mad:
Other brands, such as Lexus and BMW, offer the user the option to adjust the volume of the "beep", or to turn it off altogether. :shades:
i gotta nother car for the snow. had to take mine in the rain yesterday in the bay area, and was not too keen on that. handles just fine, but then they get soooooooo dirty.
Drove my TLS in snow, with and without cable chains. It did fine, but I drove carefully. Coming from an AWD Audi A6, I find I'm missing the AWD when the streets are wet and I'm pulling (and slipping) to go uphill. I really wish the TLS came with SHAWD. That said, I love the handling in most conditions. If you have either the TL or the TLS, do yourself a favor and go out and buy the new Beatles Love CD in DVD audio format, even if you aren't crazy about the Beatles. It is amazing. I agree that the navigation and back up camera are worth the money. But the real time traffic in Seattle still doesn't always display accurate information. Still have yet to see another TLS on the road.
It needs the SHAWD to be seen more on the road.I had the 2003 Type S and it was a disaster in the snow.Everytime it snowed I had to revert back to my 1994 Camry.I guess previous Type S owners are shying away from all that fwd power.

Been dealing for a month and finally got the right deal on a type S. Unbelievable car. From peoples mouth dropping when they see it to the tight but not harsh driving feel it gives you. Thank you Acura!!
seems the closer you can get to 35, the better. i ended up a mid 36, another guy was 35.5. another guy said if you are happy with what you pay, and thats the truth.

...short romp in a black TL-S 6MT. Just south of our state capitol. Beautiful car. Same great multi-cone synchro 6M. Unfortunately - despite what the sharp TOV folks are saying - almost the same vague-[non-permissible content removed] poorly executed clutch take-up........

I just recently purchased a 2007 Tl type-s and i think its an ok ride. I was going to get the BMW 335i coupe but the wait time is way to long and i do not like engines with 6 cylinders in line , its an old concept and it can give problems in the long run (poor oil distribution). Lot of people complaining about the TL FWD and i agree RWD its the better choice for a sport sedan. I live in Canada and to be honest with you, to me it doesnt matter , cause down here i can only travel at 100 kmh an hour on the highway and anything over 120kmh will get me pulled over and after a few times ill probably loose my license lol. If i lived anywhere in europe like england , italy etc i would never buy a car like the acura type-s lol , but down here it doesnt matter. You cant push cars to theyr limit down here and its pointless in my opinion to even consider buyng sports cars.
I see people with ferrari`s and high end sports cars driving at 100 kmh on roads , what is the point? I enjoy my TL has lots of options and for the type of driving i do down here its perfect. Anything with better handling and more power would just brake my heart, knowing thati will never be able to push its limit on this roads. Sorry for this rant but its the sad truth =/
In reality when your driving at speeds in between 100 and 140 kmh i dont think it matter if you got awd, fwd or rwd.
I agree about the limited speed. For a split second I considered trading my '04 TL for the '07 Type-S, but to be honest, I'm at the age where I really don't use even the 258HP in the regular TL on a daily basis. Most of the time I'm just squirting from traffic light to traffic light. The extra HP would only be for bragging rights. Due to Canadian weather, I don't want a RWD sedan. Hence no 335i sedan or coupe for me. AWD would be nice, again for weather reasons. But if I were to go AWD, I would lean towards a fairly basic X3 3.0si to get the extra utility and ground clearance, rather than a sports sedan such as a 335i or A4. A stripped X3 3.0si would list for about 10% more than a TL Type-S, but if I lease, the cost would likely be similar.
Would love to know what your "deal" amounted to?? I've researched MSRP, Invoice, and Average Price Paid through Edmunds. How much did you beat the MSRP ($38K) by?

I at first didn't care for the new rims. But I got my Type S in silver. And when I wash it and give the tires a good coat of tire dressing I think it looks great. I have had several people tell me the rims look great. I got a quote from Libertyville Acura. If I sell my 06 TL by myself, they will sell me a new 07 Type S for $34,995! FACT! I bought my 07 Type S on Dec. 15 06. It is a fantastic car! I also looked at ALL the competition. Good luck getting a STRIPPED 335i for $40,000. Reliability is BAD on ALL European cars!!! FACT!!! Much improved power and more attractive interior. Plus all the toys! lol. I did a purchase given the unbeatable 4.9% financing with the year-end promotion. Good luck.
Had this TLS since thanksgiving, and have just over 1K fun filled miles on it. Liking it more and more but have a couple of concerns maybe someone already has the answer. i can tell on the left sill at the base of the door, this will be a "rub area", open to scratches from shoes or pants. i figgure someone has a clear, non adhesive film that can be placed there, similar to the stock one in front of the rear wheel wells. the other thing that will be harder to prevent will be wear and tear on the left bottom driver seat cushion. i have seen many cars where this part of the seat is shredded to foam, and am not looking for that to be the case on my car. tips?
Anyone out there ever hear about a "frozen camshaft" supposedly caused by inadequate oil delivery? I recently had my 2002 TL-S simply die while waiting at a stoplight and it would not restart. Had it towed to Acura dealer where they couldn't even turn the engine over manually. They said there was a frozen camshaft. The car has 54000 miles on it. After replacing both heads, with all new components, I still noticed a tapping noise coming from the front engine bank. I returned the car and they determined there was a bent rod, also due to a suspected oil delivery problem. Now they are replacing the entire engine block and will mate it to the new heads already installed on the old engine block. In essence, a complete new engine replacement. Thankfully, Acura has agreed to pick up the cost, even though technically the car is now out of warranty.
I assume your oil level was at the full mark? (Although that probably would have been the first thing the dealer checked, and they wouldn't have picked up the tab had the oil level been too low.)
Yep, the oil was at the full mark. In fact, I checked the oil stick while I was waiting for the tow truck after the car died. I do my own oil changes and do it every 3000 miles or so with the recommended 5W20 along with new oil filter each change.
Yeah, that's a good habit. However, with the TL, and an Accord V6 prior to that, I've found that almost no oil is lost between changes, so I admit I have gotten complacent, or perhaps lazy, about checking it. Perhaps Honda V6s are good at not losing oil? I had a Prelude that really drank oil.
I never once had to add a quart between oil changes---It simply did not burn oil, period. Go figure, no oil burnt but complete engine failure due to lack of oil delivery to critical moving parts??? You would think I would have had engine overheating due to friction caused by poor oil delivery.
I'm trying to deciding between the TL or the TL-S. The two dealers in St Louis will not come down from the MSRP price. I've never paid full price for a car. Any ideas???
Why are you on the fence between the two? Do you want more hp, more torque, a manual tranny, etc....?
Please do not pay MSRP! There is absolutely no need to. I understand that prices vary across the nation but try expanding your search. I've seen others buy out of state and have their vehicles shipped to their door and saved thousands.
I say, if you're going to get the automatic, I'd be inclined to recommend the base TL. I had a TL-S automatic as a loaner and I'll repeat my claim that it's not as quick and responsive as my 2004 TL 6-speed. The limiting factor is the transmission, not the engine. So, unless you just have to have 28 more horsepower handicapped by a so-so slushbox, save the bucks. Had Acura put an SMG or DSG in the TL-S, that would be different.
If you are inclined to get a 6-speed manual, then the TL-S is your only choice. And well worth it, IMO.
As far as price goes, I agree you need to shop around. I live in DC and bought both of our Acuras (TL & MDX) from my hometown dealer in Pennsylvania and saved at least $1-2k on each. My local DC dealer has provided excellent service and warranty repairs without any ill will for having bought elswhere.

Tell us about the "poor oil distribution" that any modern in-line six has. Then tell us about the Toyota V6 sludge problem. I have a 97 BMW 528 (2.8L in-line six) that just turned over 160K miles, with never a problem. I have never heard of "oil distribution" problems in any such engine. I think that someone had a few too many and told you that tale, recalling their grandfathers "Blue Flame" Chevy, dip and splash six of the 40's and 50's. Not happening today.
You can opt for the A-SPEC 18" rims and tires. IMHO they look so much better than the S rims. You can also ask for the standard 17" rims that come on the "regular" TL. I've seen the S rims sold on ebay.
And, if you live in the Northeast, you'd better be prepared to spring for a set of snow tires and rims for when those A-Spec summer tires have you sliding off into the weeds when it snows. :sick: Jack

The Type-S offers red instrumentation, while the base TL offers Blue.
There is no option for switching bwteen Blue and Red in the TL Type-S.
