The problem for the majority of people jumping up and down in eager anticipation of Hyundai making available a factory Nav system isn't that your solution isn't a functional alternative. It's that they want the "kooo-wull", techy appearance of something that's built-in and perhaps even flips up or out of the dash at the touch of a button. Elegant frappery as far as I'm concerned, but for potential Azera buyers who desire such, Hyundai's again been caught flatfooted in the timely bringing of what America's great unwashed masses perceive as "The Next Great Thing" to market on these shores.

    Ray -
I agree. A built-in unit was never much of an attraction for me. I didn't really care one way or another. In reality, as long as I'm running around the area where I live, the navigation system is rarely used. I've driven over these streets & roads a million times. Where it does get used is when I'm travelling on vacation or business to places where I've never been before or have a limited familiarity with the area. It's a "nice to have", not a necessity.

Now, if one is considering a portable navigation system, I think the Garmin Nuvi is a very nice unit.

I have a much larger, built-in marine navigation/GPS system made by Garmin on my boat. They've been in the navigation/GPS business for a long time and make good stuff.

The double din combo nav stereo units look and perform great, especially Pioneer.
Units can now be purchased for less than $700.00
I'm not sure about the steering wheel controls.
They do provide Ipod capability thru the unit.
Good installers can make unit look like factory install.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Believe it or not, if you have any experience with reading...anyone can make the double din Pioneer unit look factory installed. Not being a smart [non-permissible content removed], really just mean to say that it's not as difficult as most would think.

A bit time consuming for the first time...yes, I won't even lie to you about that. However, prior reading of the installation manual and making sure you have all the parts & tools in advance will make it a breeze.

One thing that will be hard to find is the wire harness required to patch the aftermarket unit into the factory stereo harness. I know for a fact that Scosche makes one (model #HY-08 if you have the Infinity sound sysmte & HY-07 if you don't). With the wire harness plugged in, it's just a matter of color matching wires and crimping them with butt connectors.

The only added step you'll have to do with the Pioneer Navi unit (as with any indash DVD player) is tie the e-brake ground to the e-brake. This allows the DVD player to only function (up front) when the car is in park. If I recall, the unit is dual zone, so if you have head rest, sun visor or drop down monitors elsewhere in the vehicle...the signal will still go to those.

If you're not afraid of a lil DIY, you'd be surprised that you can do it just like an installer can. ;)

I had an "installer" do a head unit swapout of the factory radio and add a set of rear speakers in a VW Westfalia camper van. I then spent the rest of the evening straightening out his screwups. (Think left-right stereo information oriented from front to rear...) I believe it was Abbe Hoffman who proclaimed in the '70s, "Don't trust anyone over 30." Well, at nearly 61, I'll proclaim, "Don't trust technology installs to foul smelling post-pubescent adolescents whose faces are pocked with zit creme daubs every half inch."

Sounds to me like you dealt with someone just interested in making a fast buck and had no concern with the customer. Sorry you had to deal with that...I can only imagine how frustrating that was.

I visited one St. Louis dealer today and looked at the four '07 Limiteds they had. Two Venitian Blue and two Blacks all with the untimate package. I took pictures of the window sticker, side view mirror and the steering wheel. Havent had a chance to compare to my 06 yet. The mirror is the most obvious change with the directional signal LEDs incorporated as part of the Ultimate package. Bottom line price is $30,430 including $66o for freight. :D

Although I've attempted several times to silicate a reply from an 07 Azera Ultimate OWNER, I still don't know if they have added power pedals to memory system, added "tilt in reverse" side view mirrors, or have corrected memory seat feature that requires key to be in ignition for memory to work.
Tire pressure monitor system apparently has not been added.
Other than new lighted side view mirrors, steering wheel audio remote improvement and donut spare tire, are there any changes?
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Well...you could always go down to your local Hyundai dealership and check it out first hand. It seems in the time since you first asked the question, you could have been there and back quite a few times and already had your answer. ;)

Are you really looking for major changes one year removed from initial production??? :confuse: Outside of the few things you listed, about the only other things I could see this car with are push button starting (smart key), laser assist cruise control and back up assist. :shades:

I would be happy to check out 07 at local dealer, but o7's are NOT available in state of Florida.
Dealers have NOT been informed about features on 07's.
If you took time to read my posting, you would have seen the software upgrades that I was inquiring about.
We know that the 07 does not have "smart key", laser assist cruise control or back up sensors.
  • ray_h1ray_h1 Member Posts: 1,134
Why not go on Hyundai's website and request the '07 Azera brochure like I did?
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Floridabob1...honestly, I don't think it's about dealers being informed. I think they choose not to take the time to learn. The dealership I frequent here in the MD/DC area always seems to have sales & service people that seem to be well informed about the vehicles they are selling, as well as potential new models or upgrades down the road.

You can always test the knowledge of a sales person by bringing up future models that are slated to be dropped. I talked to one sales person about the car Hyundai is supposed to be dropping that will become the new flagship model (above the Azera). He knew nothing about it. When I mentioned something about the Terracan coming out, his response was, "Terra what?"

It's sad when a consumer can go in with more knowledge than the sales people they are trusting to sell them a vehicle. Have you tried Edmunds new car search? Usually, they are good of informing of the changes in the upcoming model year of any vehicle.

I know the '07 doesn't have smart key, laser cruise or back up sensors, I just said those would be nice additions later on down the road.

    I have the brochure.
It makes no mention of the questions that I have.

According to my copy of the 2007 Azera brochure (NP020-M7000 left bottom, outer rear cover) Power adjustable Foot Pedals are included in the Ultimate Package - but nothing about them being included in the memory system, though. Assume they're NOT. None of your other notations are dealt with at all - again, assume these are no-shows for 2007, too. If my past history with Hyundais (2 '88 Precises [his and hers, bolt-for-bolt a Mitsubishi rebadge of '88 Hyundai Excels], a '94 Sonata - a generally pleasant experience until trade-in time when I got my diapers wrung out but good..., a '96 Excel for cherished better half, and my current '03 Sonata that replaced the best car I ever owned - a '96 Mitsunissayotandazda sedan...) is any indication, 2008 could be a styling freshening of the current platform. I could also see the prospect of adding some or all the geegaws you inquired about at that time - but, always subject to the inscrutable whims of Hyundai's marketing mavens, of course. (If no one's noticed yet, Hyundai marches to the cadence of a very distant drummer...)

I am also on the market for the 2007 Azera Limited with the
    Ultimate Pkg.
This morning I went to my closes Hyundai dealer which is in
    Cocoa, Florida.
Test drove the 2006 Azera and now I am patiently waiting for the arrivals of the 2007 , I am ready to buy one.
While at the dealer I got a 2007 Azera brochure .
    The Limited Azera :
The Ultimate Pkg. is : Power tilt and slide sunroof ; 315 watt Infinity Audio System ; Power adjustable Tilt and telescope Steering Wheel ; Power Adjustable Foot Pedals ; Integrated Memory System ( Driver Seat , Side Mirrors and Power- adjustable Steering Wheel ) ; Power - folding Side Mirrors with Turn Signal ; Rain- sensing Windshield Wipers .
I was told that they will be coming in at the beginning of the year.
Hope this can be of any help.

Thanks for the reply, although the brochure is not specific about the way the features are programed. Must the key be in ignition for memory to work? I guess we can assume that they have not added power pedals to memory system. Still can't figure out why not. Although they had "tilt in reverse" in past, on XL350, they have not put it on Azera.
All initial 06 owners manuals showed it as a feature.
If they don't introduce 07 by 1st. of year,I believe that they will lose market share.
New remote audio control, and lighted side view mirrors appear to be only changes.
We already know that the mirrors can be swapped and that one remote audio feature can be added to audio by changing the switch.

WRT arrival of '07s in Florida, I live in central FL (near Orlando) and have found that the inventories on the websites of 2 of the 4 local Hyundai dealers include one '07 each. I called Fitzgerald auto mall in North Clearwater Saturday and was told that '07s have been ordered and should begin arriving within a couple of weeks. I've been in the market for about 2 months and Hyundai's foot dragging at shipping new models to the SE nearly drove me to buy another car. That's still a possibility if they don't build up an inventory of new models pretty soon. Trying to force people to buy year-end models by withholding new product is an ignorant business practice, at best.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
At direction of Hyundai Consumer Affairs I called a volume Hyundai dealer in California. They have received 2007 Azeras.
Their parts department still has not received an update of parts catalogue to include 2007 Azeras.
Therefore they cannot tell me if 2006 and 2007 audio systems and wire harness share the same part numbers.
I don't know what owners or dealers do if they need a part to repair a 2007.
According to these forums, some dealers have been delivering the 2007 models for almost 2 months.
The company should wake up. This information should be available to all dealers before the first car is delivered.

I have been looking at several cars and based upon comparisons, feel that the Azera is the car for me. One concern though: every time I have test driven one (4 times) there is a loud valve train clatter for about 15-20 seconds. Azera owners....is this normal? Anyone researched this to see if it affects long term reliability/longevity of the engine?

    Thanks in advance
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
I have an '06 Azera Limited (premium package) and I currently have just over 21K miles on it. At this point, the only time I hear any noises from the engine is upon start up when it's cold out. It only lasts a few seconds and then it's the quiet purr that it's always been. Maybe a heavier viscosity oil will dampen the noise. Then again, where are you located? If you're up north where it's cold already...that's the issue. Well...that's my $ .02 on the issue. Good luck!!! ;)

I have found that my Azera does not have the quietest of engines. I have never heard the clatter to which you refer.
I use synthetic oil in all of my vehicles.
  • cdmuilecdmuile Member Posts: 152
This is the second time I've heard about a start-up noise. One of the car magazines noticed a "ticking" sound and now you mention a valve train clatter. I've had mine since March and have never noticed any noise. March here in Iowa can be pretty brisk(as in cold). Perhaps your cars had been sitting on the lot for a long time. People aren't exactly beating down the doors to test drive them.

I am debating between the Azera 06 and the 07 .
The dealer is giving a pretty good deal with the 2006.
I have come late to the party , do not have the 06 brochure for comparison just the 2007 brochure.
Should I wait for the 07 or jump in and get the 06 .
To me the worst thing is the waiting , in some part of the country they have the new model and here in the Sunshine State far from.
I am going to run something by you guys and I could use your opinions good or bad .
I planning to trade-in my 2006 Lexus LX470 , with 7300 appx. miles and excellent condition . I would be getting a new 06 Azera Limited with the Ultimate Pkg.
For the Azera the dealer says $30000.00 and for my Lexus $54000.00 , there is also a rebate of $ 1000.00 and after all the deductions I should get the new Azera and a check for $ 23500.00 .
Please give me your best shot and unbias opinions.
    Thank you

Unless you want to cash out, why would you make the switch?
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
If your whole purpose is to save some money (and in this case put some money back in your pocket), then I think you're making a good choice. However, I hope you're going in with eyes wide open and not expecting Lexus quality with the Azera.

Personally, I would go with the '07 so you can get the Azera with the new upgrades so you're not left wishing you had them. Other than that, mechanically speaking, the '07 is the same as the '06. I'm very happy with my '06 (Limited with the premium package) and I'm not worried about the upgrades because I can always go the aftermarket route and make the upgrades that I want.

As far as luxury goes, you already have what's considered to be one of the benchmark luxury vehicles, so you will be taking a big step down in that department. If you feel that the money you'll be saving is worth it, then you'll be happy. I'm confident that in the long run, the car will impress you for what you're going to pay for it.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE 79
I'm not so sure that you're right about the upgrades from a cost point.
If you want power pedals, leather sun roof etc. it would cost a lot more to add them aftermarket,
If you want special accessories like navigation, they are not available through Hyundai, so aftermarket is the only way to go.
I agree, that you can't compare an Azera with a high end Lexus.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Floridabob1, you took that too literally. I was talking about upgrades as far as the back up assist and anything dealing with the audio controls and blue tooth.

As far as the power pedals, sun roof, driver's seat memory, auto windshield wipers, power folding mirrors...get all those up front with the car.

The only Lexus I would dare compare the Azera with is the ES right now. I think bang for buck, the Azera wins hands down, however...ride quality would be the biggest thing.
  • ray_h1ray_h1 Member Posts: 1,134
)) "One concern though: every time I have test driven one (4 times) there is a loud valve train clatter for about 15-20 seconds." ((

Hyundai's new lambda V6 engines use timing chains instead of previous engines' synthetic textile reinforced cogged belts. While more durable, duplex chains make some harmless, initial, start-up clatter until their auto-tensioners pump up with full oil pressure - and the longer the engine has sat idle, the more initial noise.* During that brief time there's also a bit of extra noise as the somewhat loose chain navigates around its various plastic guides (which are essentially provided to contain the chain until the auto-tensioner pumps up...). It's not tappet noise you're hearing nor do these engines even employ hydraulic tappets. Instead, the solid tappets (available in 41 service sizes) have to be replaced outright once they wear beyond allowable tolerances beyond their initial factory-installed clearances.

*Hyundai has issued a TSB advising dealership service departments that a new auto-tensioner is available that will help tame initial startup noise. Installation would be covered under warranty at owner request if the car's VIN indicates an early build date.

    luckylou,
Just remember that the Azera is competitive with the Lexus ES and a good competitor at that. My 2006 Azera Limited with the Premium Pkg. is as good or better than my Acura TL's the last being 2 2003 models that I always leased. I have had my Azzy since end of August and my wife drives it, predominantly during the week. It is the best car I have ever owned. I have a 2006 Sonata LX but we use the Azzy whenever we go anyplace. As long as you don't compare apples to oranges you will be very happy with the Azera. It's a real "boulevard" car with impeccable manners and when out on the highway it flies. Good luck on whatever you choose. :)

Ray_h1...I finally got an answer from my service department on my dimming headlight issue. Seems that one of my grounds (I was told there are 4 total) could be loose.

When I take it in, I will have them reprogram the transmission for the open throttle shift.

I also noticed the laminate on my steering wheel started peeling, they said they'll replace it.

Supposed to take it in next week...I'll post what happens.

I got what I wanted money wise . Yes this Lexus SUV is an excellent vehicle , but too expensive to maintain , plus the insurance , premium gas plus a few other items.
I test drove the basic Azera for a long while (about 1 hour ) , I found very very comfortable to seat on , the steering was easy to turn with no effort. And the folding rear seats are great. I love the looks on this sedan.
I am happy about getting this vehicle, so is my wife.
Perhaps brand wise is a step down but if my eyes were close getting into the car it would have been difficult to tell the difference between the Azera and the LX470.
I will be getting the 2006 Dark Blue exterior with Black interior Limited with Ultimate Pkg.
Thanks for the advices , soon I will be joining the Azera club.

">Leased an '07 Limited with all the goodies last month. Love this car and the lease terms were even better. My dealership in So. CA bent over backwards and the net result was the best auto transaction in my life.
Sorry to hear the East Coast US is having problems with availability and knowledgeable sales reps.
I'm enclosing 3 photos. (or trying to)">link title The obvious is "limo" window tinting, but to give this vehicle a "stand-alone" view, have the factory wheels chromed, as i did. Out the door, all inclusive @ $600.00.
I can't imagine anyone in the 30K range not to take a serious look at this winner.

Congratulations and welcome to the club. It's refreshing to see someone that can actually be open minded. This is my 2nd consecutive Hyundai, my '02 Sonata proved to be VERY dependable. I had it for 4 years putting 105K miles on it. Getting the Azera was a no brainer for me as I needed the extra room since my kids are getting taller. So far, 8 months and 21+K miles...loving it more and more!!!

    Enjoy!!!

Why is Hyundai and or the dealers playing with the paying customer ??
Is it not the month of October when the new models comes marching in ???
Reading everyone posts about some parts of the country having the 2007 , makes me
a very sick puppy. What happens if in a couple of weeks Johnny comes marching home ??
And I have bought the 2006 Azera in not my favored color, just because I would be saving a couple of bucks but now, the new ones are here.
Boys this is my dilemma .
Please send your RIP ASAP .
BTW not all Lexus dealers are the same, they are many you would want to stay clear off.
Sorry, so close to the Holidays and I am venting OFF.
I am going to tell the salesman to stay put for a couple of weeks and wait for J to .........

    You are right!
Dollar for dollar, the Hyundai is a great car.
I too drove "luxury" cars for many years, but I think that the Azera is as luxurious as many others,
My only fault with Hyundai, is that the company offers so little support to customers and dealers.
They also cut back a little too much in eliminating some great features that are on the model sold in Korea.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Yes...and Hyundai is running ads on tv about being the year end close out sale on most of it's vehicles. However, I don't see the Azera shown in that ad.

Luckylou...if I were you, I would hold off and wait until the '07's show up and you can get what you want. I mean...stepping down from a high end Lexus, I would think you wouldn't settle for anything less that exactly what you want.

See if there are any dealers outside of your area that have the '07, if they do...go to your dealer and they may be able to get it for you and transport it there. That's how I got my '06. The dealer I went to didn't have the one I wanted, but they found it at another dealer about 45 mins. away. A day later, it was delivered and I was given the keys and on my merry way.

    Good luck!

Hi guys , The Orlando Auto Show , that is running thru Sunday Nov. 26th ,
I was wondering if the 2007 Azera was on display.
    I anyone aware of this ?? .
What is all this fuss about removing the " H " from the front grill ??
I do not understand, if you love your vehicle are you ashamed that was made in Korea ?
I got HIGH Anxiety , the waiting is a killer. 2007 Azzeera where are youuu ????
    Drive safe during the holidays.

To me, removing the "H" has nothing to do with "shame". I used dental floss to remove the 7 letters (left side below trunk) and found the Korean website for the "H-less" front grill. It just looks better. :)

Anyone know why it costs $200.00 more for Pearl White exterior paint?

I can't believe it is more in demand then the other fine colors.

I like the White, but not that much
  • cableguy06cableguy06 Member Posts: 299
Cadillac does the same thing with their white pearl. I love the color and have it on my 2007 Limited Ultimate.

To me, the $170 I paid was worth EVERY penny :D

If you like the standard white and don't LOVE the pearl, than save yourself the money ;)
  • christy7christy7 Member Posts: 21
I was told that the pearl white has,I think, 8 coats of paint on it, versus the other colors, that must not have as many coats.
I have the pearl white, and I love it. It just looks like it would be "soft" to touch, if that makes sense.
