I noticed that 3 years ago my Rogue SV AWD had residual of 0.59. Current residual seems like 0.55. That is going to make the lease approx $30/month more expensive. I wonder why there's such a drop in residual?

Because the residual is meant to approximate market value, and Nissan had been overstating it in the past in order to make lease payments cheaper.

But, at the end of the lease, Nissan was taking back thousands of cars, trucks and SUVs that were worth less than the residual value on the lease contract, and they had to eat the difference.

FWIW, all leases are more expensive today than 3 years ago, through either a lower residual or a higher MF.

The calculation shows that the higher the MSRP, the higher the residual value. So, for the same invoice price, the depreciation is less and the lease amount is less (although mf somewhat offsets that). It seems counter-intuitive that I should ask for a higher MSRP to get a better lease value. Am I missing something?
I am comparing Rogue SV AWD MSRP 28.070 to 27,070. Net cap cost of 23,500. The smaller MSRP increases my monthly lease amount by $16.
Also, mf 0.00104*2400 = 2.5% APR but it adds approx. 18% to the lease amount. Does it look right?

If the MSRP is higher, then you can expect the invoice price to be higher, as well. Not sure why you would assume the invoice price is static?

Here's my calculation:

As my co-host points out, the selling price on the more expensive unit should be higher, which would make the payments more equal.

The math is correct on that spreadsheet.
