    LG, and esf...

More evidence that the Q5 will be as large as I have recently posted.

In an interview with Automotive News, the head of Audi’s dealer council, Joel Weinberger, revealed some interesting information about the upcoming Audi Q5. When asked why Audi needs the smaller Q5 SUV in the United States, Weinberger answered:

"The Q7 is a really big vehicle. Just size-wise you have to look at the (Lexus) RX 330 as your target. The Q5 will fit into that niche and it should not cannibalize the Q7. It will be bigger than the (BMW) X3 and (Acura) RDX."...

Also, the link provides more info on a hybrid powertrain... so it looks like you will be able to get that better FE you are wanting, LG.

Just think about it as Toyota's Murano.

This is pretty much a jacked up mini-van on Camry/Avalon's platform.

I've begun to admire Zenith ("The quality goes in before the name goes on!" Or was that Quasar?) lately. My Tag and Omega are my daily/weekend watches (among other more rationally priced pieces) while the IWC is my dress watch. But, thankfully, I rarely "dress!"

I understand your thoughts on Rolex, I used to share them. And I'll believe that Rolex is the first name that comes to mind when it's time to buy something fancy for many, just as Mercedes is for cars. Why else would the C Class sell??? ;) But I'm beginning to appreciate their accomplishments and history more. While I doubt I'll ever own an Oyster Perpetual model, the Daytona Cosmograph is a beauty. But, yes, they are overpriced in direct comparison to other marques. But, like "overpriced" cars, if you want one, then that is what they cost!

    Hola, Jose:

It's a DaVinci SL chronograph. I almost bought the latest Ingenieur (AMG model), still might be next on my list... I appreciate the IWC link to my native New England.

Gotta love it here, three inches of snow overnight, temperature rapidly rose ~20 degrees and now we are having torrential rains/flooding. Sunny tomorrow. I really do love New England! Off to ski the White Mountains next week...

    Greetings, fellow former 300M'er...

"IMO, spending more than, say, a couple hundred dollars for a nice time piece is throwing money away."

IYO, you are correct. The same could be said about spending more than $20k (or even less!) on a car...

Some people spend more money on their stereo than their wristwatch! What a waste of money! ;)

You're right, Sony Alphas, and they're the ones I haven't read up on.

I'm not very interested in the Canon Rebels, though, because they're quite ubiquitous and, while nice, I think I could do better.

Unfortunately I don't normally shoot RAW, and their internal JPEG processing leaves much to be desired.

That means no Sony for me ;)

I'm not getting a pro SLR any time soon. Maybe in a couple years. This will be my first digital SLR, although I've had quite a few film oldies in the past.

Trust me on this, the new Canon XSi is the camera to get in the entry level dSLR market. It can go toe-to-toe with the Nikon D300.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks. However, I'm still looking closely at the Nikons...

the freakin' 17 minutes!... OK, Dewey... just how long has this 17 minutes had significance in your life? hmmmm.

Ok Dr. Sigmund Freud I am not going to get into the riveting details about the "17 minutes" but let's just say that I like the feeling of having extra time (though I really know I dont have extra time). Makes sense? I thought it wouldn't. ;)

I've got to confess that I am attracted to the idea of a very cool ultra fuel efficient car at a reasonable price, and if there was one on the market, I'd consider buying it now.

I am not surprised. I remember meeting you at a hybrid Edmunds forum a few years ago. When I began with Edumunds most my posts were at hybrid forums. My key interest was the Prius, Hybrid Accord and the hybrid Highlander.

Despite my interest I have no desire yet to buy any hybrids since the current offerings are just not fuel efficient enough. That ofcourse may change in a few years but that is exactly what I said a few years ago too. :surprise:

When an alarm clock used to control what time I got up I had it set 15-20 minutes ahead of time so that when I finally GOT UP I wouldn't be late. Didn't work, every time it went off I knew I had that leeway so I was still always late to get up.

I'm very happy that an alarm clock no longer aggravates the pieces out of me since I retired from my full time job in September. :P

hpowders is alive and well pickin' peaches on ol' sheriff Johnson's farm for habitual speeders in Talahassee.

I bring him my famous rum cake slices once a month, without the rum (regulations). He had been doing well, learning to play the harmonica and singing soulful spirituals. When I told him I want him to get us a Lexus RX 350 SUV when his time is up, his face turned ashen and he told me he may just stay on the farm-that the tractor there corners better.

Men! I just can't understand 'em.

I'll definitely be watching for Q5 previews and first tests. It's going to be the wife's car, so if she likes it, then it remains a possibility. The Q3 would need to have at least as much space inside as the X3 for us to consider it. If its anything like the EX35, forget it.

I've begun to admire Zenith ("The quality goes in before the name goes on!" Or was that Quasar?) lately.

Good question, I'm not sure. The two things I really like about Zenith are their very unique style (no Bvlgari flash), and that their Elite and El Primero movements are their own. My new one looks just like this:

Nice watch. A mechanical watch with complications is a piece of incredible minute engineering that at least deserves admiration, IMO.

I agree with you in that Rolex and MB are usually seen as "the" paradigms in the watch and car imaginaries; and also in that this perception probably place Rolex and MB above their own merits, which nonetheless are very solid. I suggest in addition that Zenith is comparable to Audi in some sense. Both have top quality and movements/techniques of its own. Both have struggled for getting the position they deserve among the top in their classes. Both have achieved this acknowledgment at the present (surely in Europe Audi has done it).

When an alarm clock used to control what time I got up…

I have no problem being awakened by my internal clock or by an alarm clock very early in the morning. In that, I am an early bird. But what I cannot do—because of my blood pressure, which usually is low and when I awake is very low—is to jump out of the bed immediately. If I did so, I would blindly go for the milk to the closet or for the underwear to the fridge. No joking, both of these have happened to me several times, even after being under the shower. Null. Zero. Inservible.

Thus I have developed a strategy. I set the alarm half an hour before the hour I desire to be out of the bed. When I awake, I seat on bed to read along that half an hour (as long as I lie reclined, the blood gets into my brain and I can therefore think). In that time my blood pressure rises and I eventually jump from bed happy and with a clear mind.

The problem is that my wife is exactly opposite to me: she jumps from bed like a spring and loves reading in bed before falling asleep. Hard times that need to be negotiated from time to time. :confuse:

    Jose

Everything was satiric except the part about the RX 350 she wants.

I remain firmly against it. Goes against everything I stand for.

I have never seen anyone of the male persuasion actually driving one and the RX is in plentiful supply around here.

Once again I must say thanks for the kind words. :)

yeah I haven't played in about 6 months. The car business is a 65 hour a week deal.

It's not to bad looking out from my desk and seeing an S8, R8, RS4, S6, and various pre-owned 911's on the lot.

For those wondering, the S5 is all that and a bag of chips. The A5 is even really bad @##, with the new valve lift in the 3.2, it pulls stronger all the way to red line than the last gen 3.2

Tag, congrats on the 135. I am considering that one myself.

Thanks, Dan. I don't see how you (or anyone) could go wrong on this car. The overall concensus of reviews is quite extraordinary, almost unreal. If it somehow ended up that you didn't like it (doubtful, but always possible) there are so many people now waiting to get one that I am certain re-selling it would be a very simple process.

From my perspective, if I had seen anything more appealing out there in that type of car, I'd have snapped it up.

I hope you get one! Of course, you've got access to some very nice Audis! :)

According to Lexus, only 65-70% of RX buyers are women :confuse:

To be honest, I've never seen a man driving it either, and this just seems wrong to me. Of course, I drove my own wife's RX330 when we went on family outings, but that was never a very enjoyable experience. I'm much happier with the X5 :D

The new A4 with improved weight distribution is very compelling to me as well.

The chassis is a huge improvement, and the tech is cool as well. I would love it, but I think I would have more romantic feelings towards a relatively light, rear drive car with a stick.

Maybe the other 30-35% were bought by the husband for the wife... Because to be honest I've never seen a man driving a RX either. My dad was actually considering the RX when he was buying a SUV but even my mom told him that the RX seems like a chick car...

I am glad that he got the 4Runner instead.

Exactly my idea of retirement. No sweat, toil and maladjusted watches.

In my case retirement does not consist of getting a gold watch but of disposing my gold watch and using real time computer/cell phone time instead. ;)

I was thinking that Zenith is like Audi when I made the comment about Rolex and M-B. Zeniths are for people who specifically don't want a Rolex/M-B or a Breitling/BMW, much the same as Audi.

I actually stumbled across an FX when I was last in Italy. I assume somebody must've imported it from somewhere, but I can't imagine why. It's good, but its not worth that kind of trouble. Cayennes on the other hand were a dime a dozen.

I have no problem being awakened by my internal clock or by an alarm clock very early in the morning.

That is my very sad thing. After years (and years and years) of getting up at 4:30 in order to be at work by 6, I cannot seem to sleep past 4 or 5, regardless of the fact that the damned clock is not set. :P

That said, I like your strategy for getting blood to your brain before you actually get out of the bed. I should try it, I think I might find it very helpful. :D
