Wow! I apoligize. I did not know you were in the hospital. I hope everything is going very well for you and you are back 100%. Yes, we can certainly have the hybrid discussion later.
  • cyclone4cyclone4 Member Posts: 2,302
Thanks dewey! My wife and I are looking forward to leasing the next generation of the RX hybrid for her next year. I wish it would be available with the Lithium-Ion battery but it does not look like that will be the case. Even so, from what I have heard, it will be much more energy effecient than the current RX hybrid that she has been driving since late April of 2005. We are on the second 6 month extension of the lease and this now goes through the end of April 2009. If need be, we will extend it again.

I agree that fuel prices will soar again not too far into the future. But, I am excited about an Obama administration being much more beneficial for the U.S. and the world in general. There will be some very tough times ahead, but I think that Obama's election will speed up the recovery.

The current 400h is based on the 3.3L engine, which is more than a decade old. It's more efficient thanks to Atkinson cycle, but it still uses port fuel injection, doesn't have VVT on the exhaust valves, etc. Just switching to the new 3.5L should bring nice gains in efficiency and power, even with Ni-MH batteries. Please post your impressions when you test the new RX, especially on the interior and the new NAV system.
  • cyclone4cyclone4 Member Posts: 2,302
I certainly will. But I don't think it will be available for a test drive until later next spring.

Wish you to get well soon Tagman.

Since we are on the topic of the 2010 RX, here are some more pictures...

I think I'm seeing a lot more IS than I initially thought, which is not a bad thing because I think the IS is the best looking model currently in Lexus' lineup. But then again, I am biased...
  • cyclone4cyclone4 Member Posts: 2,302
I actually think it is very nice looking. I wonder if the new RX hybrid will be more disnguished from the all gas version than the previous RX350 and RX400H. In any case, I like the new look.

    Hi Mr Tagman

Just to wish you a speedy return to home and family....Tony

Get well soon, Tag. But, the really important question: Is the 135i OK??? ;)
Truly, hope all is well with you.

Bad sign: The EW noted yesterday that she wanted a Porsche 911. Not just that she wants a Porsche, but specific model! Now, how did she find out that Porsche makes a 911? Was there an ad in People Magazine? On Oprah? Y'all haven't been talking to her, have you? Not good, not good at all...

Under the "It takes all kinds" file: Drving to work this morning, I spotted a VW Phaeton ahead of me. As I overtook it, I noted that all of the VW badges had been replaced by the lovely Bentley "Flying B" logo. Not a hint of VW. You can fool some of the people some of the time... The question I have: Does the owner think he bought a Bentley???!!!

Or is that a positive sign of my plan to put Porsche badges on a VW Beetle and present it to the EW as a Porsche?

And, as a New England guy, I can't believe that Gaffney dropped that perfectly thrown Cassel pass! They don't throw to him often, but when they do, he catches the ball! Why that one? Oh, well. The real season begins Sunday against the Bills... And, to add insult to injured reserve list, the Den Leader has scheduled a hike up the Blue Hills to the Observatory for the Scouts during the Pats game! Better tell the EW to dress warm...

'21 Dark Blue/Black Audi A7 PHEV (mine); '22 White/Beige BMW X3 (hers); '20 Estoril Blue/Oyster BMW M240xi 'Vert (Ours, read: hers in 'vert weather; mine during Nor'easters...)

  • cyclone4cyclone4 Member Posts: 2,302
And as a former New England guy, I can't believe he dropped that pass either. We gave that game away. For the first time ever I think, Belichick screwed up on calling that time out. The Pats will still win the division and probably go to the Super Bowl again. I can't believe the improvement of Cassel.

I'm ready for you, Titanium Person!

My Alpine White 328i sedan was delivered to my door at 1 PM this afternoon. It kicked the VW out of the garage. Love the BMW lumbar support. Really supports the lower back. The VW has a lumbar support dial, but it doesn't do anything.
  • deweydewey Member Posts: 5,251
Remember the BMW CS. Everybody here raved about its syling! Well the latest news is it will not exist. BMW canned the idea because of the uncertain economy!

Apparently the highly affluent are not as immune to the economy as they were in prior slowdowns.

    BMW CS CANCELLED

Sorry to hear about your hospitalization. Hope it's nothing serious. Glad to hear you are getting out just in time to side step the Obama health care plan. ;)

    Feel better! :)
  • hpowdershpowders Member Posts: 4,331
Wow! if that doesn't say "aggressive" styling, I don't know what does. The wheels alone must cost a small fortune.
  • deweydewey Member Posts: 5,251
Congratulations for the new delivery! Nice to have it delivered in front of your door. Almost like ordering a car from Amazon and having the UPS rep. providing you the keys. I had to pick up mine and was not at all impressed with the delayed services during that day.

Next time I will request home delivery!
  • hpowdershpowders Member Posts: 4,331
    Hey Tony.

I got the Alpine White 328i delivered to my door just before 1 PM today. Nothing like sitting once again in a premium vehicle.

Now I have to think of what I can do to get both vehicles in the garage and what to do with my 2 golf carts (probably sell the golf carts and clean out both sides of the garage). :)
  • hpowdershpowders Member Posts: 4,331
    Thanks, Dewey!

I already checked both "keys" or "cards", whatever you call them, to see if they both work and they do.

There is nothing like being away from a BMW for 3 months and then coming back again to that wonderful Dakota leather sport seat and its effective lumbar support.
Premium all the way. And the sound system is superb!

I heartily recommend home delivery. Tomorrow morning I will check the tire pressures.

With the successful delivery of the 328i, Dewey, I am feeling more and more like
    Germanium Man! :shades:

Hey , TM we wish you fast recovery.

LD, I think the EW is watching you post! No way she knows that the 911 is one of the best sports cars on the road unless she's spying! Does she want the S model as well?? Will she track the car??

If she can get you to buy that car, I'm betting she's going to dump you soon for a young billionaire!!

    This is getting good! :)

TM, get well soon! LD might need therapy soon!

Man I know there will be little sleep tonight....New Car....Election....Rum Cake.....Ummmm Good....I really thought you wanted the 3 for the last couple of years, but when you made the supreme sacrifice for the diamond, and therefore the economy move for the vw , it all made sense :) All I can do is speculate that the Toyota short really paid off and now you have all three things :) Lucky Man Your Friend Tony ps don`t get to fiddeling around with the new stuff and dent the car, particularly at night
  • hpowdershpowders Member Posts: 4,331
I didn't realize the 3 Series is so long. It will be a challenge to re-arrange the garage so that the VW and BMW both fit.

The 3 has always been my "comfort" car, Tony.

The white color is growing on me, after 4 silver cars.

You are making me laugh Tony! It has been quite a day.

Tomorrow I will measure the tire pressure and get them just right.

A new car, rum cake and a presidential election. It doesn't get much better than that! ;)
  • clemboclembo Member Posts: 253
Congratulations on the new car! You have the perfect color for your climate. A couple of coats of Zaino will really make it shine. :shades:

I may stop in Tampa on my way south for some Rum Cake if you have any leftovers. ;)
  • hpowdershpowders Member Posts: 4,331
Thank you so much for your good wishes. :)

It's my first white car after 4 silver ones. I have plenty of company in my community; white is a very popular color.

On other websites, I noticed that in various BMW model color polls, white always came out near the top, which really surprised me, since many of those posters seem to be young guys. The stigma is that white is a "retirement" color. Apparently, that's changing. Good!

Some Clement Premiere Canne Premium Light Rum from French Martinique, soaking through the cake is marvelous. :surprise:

From my experience, after two pieces, it really doesn't matter what the rum was!

Thanks again for the congrats! :)

Yes, I (& our family) care quite a lot about F1.

Who knew it would come down to the last turn on the last lap of the last race?

What a year. I'm pretty happy, because I support Hamilton, but most of the rest of the family are Ferrari followers

I liked it the way you put it,

    Last race

    Last lap

    Last corner

I myself supported Hamilton, but I felt bad for Massa, the team informed him he's the champion, only to know he lost it :(

Blue team wins. Sorry red team :P
  • jlbljlbl Member Posts: 1,333
We all will be affected by the outcome of this presidential election. If only, you have been able to actively participate in it :P (may be you've guessed I voted for Sr. Zapatero in the last Prime Minister poll in Spain; I must say I strongly rejected the politics of the former PM Sr. Aznar.)

Anyway, no matter you have red or blue colored heart, this election has been Historic.
I wish the best for all of you in the USA, and extensively to all of us in the rest of the world. :)

    Best regards,
    Jose

Jose, Thanks for your kind words. We are all connected ans that should be the baseline for all relations! My guy lost but I pray that he rises to the office and responsibilities.

As we all have witness with this global economic meltdown, it all matters. You can't lve in a bubble.

Have fun in your Bimmer! I love to read your posts so keep 'em coming!

It won't make all that much difference. There isn't that much money lying around for Obama and the dems. to spend. The guy talked the talk, but thanks to Iraq and the govt. bailout, Obama will not be able to walk the walk. Gracias a dios!

As usual, no matter who wins, the status quo will be maintained.

If they decide to tax Rum Cake, I'll join you in protest and dump a bunch off the pier in Clearwater. ;)
  • tagmantagman Member Posts: 8,441
No, this isn't a political statement or post... LOL.

I'm talking about MY freedom. Ahh, yes... after 5-days, it is truly wonderful to be free from the hospital... and, thankfully, I have left there with all my parts still intact... LOL.

To the terrific people here that offered me your get-well wishes, I offer my heartfelt thanks.

(LD, no auto accident... the 135i is fine... hahaha.)

Anyway, to the cars... I will post a reply (very soon) to cyclone4's question about my perspective on the diesels and hybrids. Right now, I've got a mountain of stuff to catch up on first.

hpowders, Congrats again! (a little more fanfare this time) ;) Hey... let's hope the dealership is as nice to you after the sale.

I'd help you with the Clearwater deal, only I can never find a parking spot there.
I've totally given up on Clearwater Beach!

Come to think of it, if they do begin taxing rum cake, they really must be pretty desperate.
You have me thinking.....I'd better do an internet search on Obama's economic plan and see what "rum cake" brings up.....hopefully, nothing! :surprise:
  • hpowdershpowders Member Posts: 4,331
Well, thanks again, TM, but my buying one of German engineering's greatest vehicles and its awesome steering, brakes, transmission and radio in one of the (seemingly) most sought after colors, Arctic White, pales beside the news of your hospital release. :)

The key to surviving a hospital "visit" is to never fall asleep and always be alert as to what they are doing to you.

Glad you got the h..ll out of there!!! ;)

Well 2 out of three ain't bad. Dang! :(

I'll be hiding a lot of my US currency in old empty Clement Rum bottles in anticipation of "redistribution." :surprise:

I knew my wife's policy of never, ever throwing anything out of the house would someday be good for something. :shades:

I wonder if JJ's tears were due to last night's landmark historical moment, or much more likely-the realization that his victimization game and all the money he's squeezed out of it, finally can be seen as having no "cred". :lemon:
  • bmlexusbmlexus Member Posts: 755
    Congratulation on your new car.

    Are you enjoying it?
  • hpowdershpowders Member Posts: 4,331
Thank you very much for your kind good wishes. :)

I was driving on the interstate today talking to the wife, not even realizing I was going over 80 mph. Felt more like 65. Sneaky little devil, that BMW 3 Series. :)

I have yet to find the ideal position for the driver's seat. It will come.

I was looking over at the wife and she was sitting in obvious discomfort-the seat was too close to the dash and the lumbar was hitting her lower back like someone was sticking a fork through her L3-L4 vertebrae. I pulled over, got out and fixed it all for her....
She is after all, the mother of my rum cake!
  • hpowdershpowders Member Posts: 4,331
Mea culpa! Of course I meant "Alpine White." This is how it starts, I guess.... :(
  • tagmantagman Member Posts: 8,441
So... you confess to using the words "Arctic White" instead of "Alpine White". This is a serious offense, likely due to being under the influence of rum cake, to which you have willingly and publically confessed to all corners of the world on the world wide web.

Well... fortunately "Arctic White" is used by Mercedes Benz, another legendary German marque... so even though you are guilty, you are subsequently pardoned, Germanic Man. ;)

As a Canadian I love being your neighbor .
Here in Canada having a Prime Minister who is not from the French part of Canada is considered radical.

There is no other country on earth which would allow or democratically elect a visible minority to become a national leader. NONE! Tribal, ethnic, religious, and racial characteristics is what defines a leader in places other than USA. USA has transcended all countries and is guided by far more worthier principles than any other place on this earth.

    Congratulations again!

Now here is the problem: The USA will likely be facing the risk of bankrupcydue to its humungous entitlement programs-Social Security, Medicare, Medicade. What's the potential shortfall--$53 trillions which makes the current 700 billion $ financial bailout look like chickenfeed. Unless President Obama has the guts to impose major entitlement cutbacks or raise taxes substantially there will definitlely be a PROBLEM. In otherwords the status quo cannot be maintained.

    http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=33574

Canada faced a debt crisis about ten years ago and with major government cuts and painful reforms that crisis was resolved( In the 1990s Wall Street Journal wrote that Canada will become a poor developing country with a Canadian Peso currency). Times have changed since then but it took a lot of belt tightening to accomplish a turnaround.
