Vince, thanks for the input. I was hoping not to hear vacuum leak as a possible problem, but I was wondering. Before though, the leak was massive, and the engine stumbled hard on any acceleration. Now it runs great, just idles too fast. O2 sensor is pretty new as I changed it back in the trouble shooting phase of this whole mess. It could be bad, but if it were it should set a check engine code on long highway drives, and it does not. Thanks again for the input.
Markbuck, what were the % discounts for the 2001 HD? Did you get the GMS +3% supplier deal, or straight GMS or GMO? I hear that orders will be accepted/allocations assigned on Sept. 1, but that was for the Duramax. I would suspect the gassers should be before that?
Since the whole subject doesn't apply to Silverados (they have knock sensors and the computer automatically retards the timing which can't be adjusted) I was just going to drop it anyway.
why are you trying to remove the O2 sensors? I did my headers and catback without touching the sensors. Especially for the catback since the connection point is nowhere near the 02 sensors.
The 6L has O2 sensors behind each catalytic converter in addition to one each side of engine up front. The one coming off the right bank is real close to the muffler and is removed and reinstalled in the Gibson pipe.
Got a crack in the plastic frame on my '99 rear sliding winder. Water leaks down inside the truck. Guess I know why no sliders avail for 2001's. What would yawl do? Goop it yourself or take it in?
Crack is on the driver side of the center sliding window, directly above where the glass overlaps, in a black plastic trim piece.
If I understand you right - you want to remove the wiper blade arm. On the '96 you raise the arm til it will stay out on it's own, then there is a sliding lever underneath, you slide it away from the shaft and the whole thing will slip right off. No tools needed at all. I hope they didn't change this on the newer trucks, it worked really well and was quick. I'll try to remember and look at my new one when I go out at lunch.
Where is the press releases did you read that it had a 5.7? The concept truck did have a 6.0l. I don't think GM has officially released what will be in the actual vehicle since both of those press releases didn't specify a displacement only that it is a V-8. I read where Rick Wagoner (GM CEO) will be driving it up to the Woodward Dream Cruise to GM's concept vehicle display tonight. Anybody out there going to that this weekend? I will probably be there on Saturday. Already went on Wednesday in my company 2001 Camaro SS Convt. and is was already getting pretty crazy...
Took me (YES ME i did install it myself) 25 min to install very simple. Had to drill 1 hole below passenger side screw that holds in the tail light but that was no biggie. They look very good. All i need now is a grill guard and im set
I don't know where you live but I've never heard of a Jiffy Lube around here charging $20 out the door. More like $29.95 + tax + whatever else they can sell you. I get your point though.
Of course you have to add the cost of a new oil pan after they ruin the threads on your drain plug after a while. I've now known two people with this problem.
markbuck, you took the words out of my mouth. I also have a rear slider, which means I also have a cracked frame on my rear slider. I remember Tim's is cracked too (and his rear window isn't in such great shape either!).
I don't know if I should have the dealer replace it or fix it myself. It does leak a little when I wash it. I'm worried the dealer will either install another of the same, and/or make it worse somehow, like if it squeaked and creaked over bumps. I'm going to ask them what they would do to fix it, I'll post their response.
First i need to pay off the rest of my truck then save a lil more $$$ then ill buy one. Probably spring. Mom just asked me this morning whats next i told her and she said whats after that i said bigger tires and she said whats after that i said i think thats it and i can stop
$$$ for new engine when, after about 40k miles of JL changes, you realize that, at best, one in every four trips they actually changed the oil and filter.
$$$ for the snake oil of the month they pulled over the wife's eyes telling her that if she left without it, her truck was 75% likely to explode between there and home...
Sorry about that. For some reason I can't get real player to work through the firewall at work. All I can view is the quicktime one. Kinda crazy, I work at GM, but since that site is part of the "internet" not our "intranet" I can't view it at work!!! I'll have to try it at home I guess.
I have seen some at work and after 1st seeing the concept vehicle thought that the real ones need bigger tires, but I'm kinda warming up to it again lately...
Sorry about the 3 posts in a row, but I was thinking more about the 5.7/6.0 in the SSR. At 1st I was dissapointed, but then I realized that the 5.7 (aka LS1) is actually higher horsepower with lighter weight. While it may not be a rugged at the 6.0 for those heavy duty tasks, doubt anyone will carry much of a load or tow much with it anyways. So, it should make for a pretty darn quick truck!!!
Don't forget the cost of the new engine when the filter loosens up and you lose all your oil. Happened to my old neighbor (he noticed before the engine damage).
I would be interested to hear you thoughts on the aluminum tires. I haven't found anything about them to sugest they are better than steel. About the only thing I can find positive about the aluminum wheels is the looks, and my GMC wheels are not exactly what I consider super hot lookers. I like the Chevy wheels a lot. Anyone want to trade for a set of mat grey GMC rims???
Phil
P.S. Was it Tim or Dean made a comment about mixing GMC and Chevy parts?
A couple weeks ago I got a 2000 GMC 1500 x-cab sb SLE (all options)-"Z71" 5.3L 3.73 P265 WOL tires, locking rear, etc for $200 over invoice less $1000 rebate and $1700 GM card incentive totaling $2500 under invoice. I got it off the lot: dark toreador red over pewter with pewter interior. Originally I was going to order one, but this has everything I wanted except possibly leather (was not sure yet)and I thought I was able to make a "good deal". MSRP $33470 My Price: $27000 What do you think, should I have been able to do better on a 2000 and if so how much?
Question: It has Provisions for cellular phone, the sales guy said that was another "power adapter", the book says to consult your dealer. Anyone know what this provision is and how it works, I don't think it's the cig adapter?
By the way, I been reading these boards for over a year and I've learned (and laughed) a lot from everyone (especially Tim).
As I recall from my four wheeling days, aluminum wheels are desirable as the give your rig far less unsprung weight, which improves wheel travel or mileage or hp or something important like that as your engine has less mass to turn.
Obviously I don't remember the specifics, but it was moderately important from an off-road perspective. I'll see if I can fire the right synapse and get back to you...
If you e-mail me with a fax number I can send the sheets I have out of the Service Manual that GM faxed me. It is for a hard mount cell phone. The hook up for power etc., is under the cup holder in the center console. Just grab the cup holder in the center and pull with a mighty tug. There is also a lead in the overhead console, by the blank plate in the front, for a microphone.
They may give you a little better mpg, as they are lighter, and easier to twist, but as far as holding up to a high curb, storm drain, or boulder at 30 mph, I'd give the steel rims a better chance.
But they look nicer, and paying that kind of money for a pickup truck I'd be pissed if I didn't get aluminum rims.
Congratulations on your 2001!! Sounds like the same basic truck I have on order with 3.73, less leather and two-tone. My dealer also said it was going to have 325hp. I waited for the aluminum heads for better efficiency. Hope it's worth the wait. Tell me what kind of fuel mileage your getting and anything else you want to add. Did you get the neutral interior? I've still got a build date 4 weeks away. Reminds me of Christmas when I was a kid!!! It took forever to come!!!
Thanks. Went with the graphite, hadn't seen the neutral when allocation received. Adding grill guard and tail light guards. Probably Westin sportsman series, black. Anyone have any feelings pro or con on the Westin? I prefer stainless steel, but the little lady said she wants black. I get to drive until all the work is done then it's hers--need to think of plenty to add and think Westin will take the longest to order. Right Ryan?
TOM - The nerf bars were easy to get. Trust me you wont regret getting the tail light guards and other stuff. Its real fun to add all kinds of stuff. The little lady is smart black looks nicer (my opinion). I think westin is very good. My grill guard probably will be the gorhino stepguard though (maybe still deciding).
SD it seems like forever but its not its well worth the wait. I thought it was gonna be forever but fromn the day the order was accepted till it was shipped to the dealership only took 28 days.
I agree completely about the GMC aluminum wheels. WOW are they ugly! I think the first two or three of my friends I showed my new truck to, the first thing they said was, "Yikes, those are some ugly wheels!" I bought a set of Chevy take-offs from a truck place here in Oklahoma City for $265.00 and had some BFG Long Trail TA's mounted on them. It's fun to watch people double-take; Chevy wheels on a GMC truck! Too bad GMC is going to have to buy it back from me (can't get rid of the shakes). However, I did get four brand new tires on Friday, (even though there was nothing wrong with the tires on the truck), and since they are buying it back, I probably will pull off the wheels and tires as I did the Edelbrock shocks. If I don't buy a 2001 to replace it, I will probably sell all this stuff (at a loss, of course!), so if you are interested and live anywhere near Oklahoma City, you might drop me an e-mail at cwhitegr@theshop.net. Tomh12... Could you possibly post a pic of your two-tone job... I am curious to see how the body shop handled the moldings and trim around the two-tone.
congrats on your new truck. i don't think you'll run into too many attacks here just cuz yours is a gmc. hell, tim will prob'ly overlook that cuz you'll be one of the few 2500 guys here for him to play with. chevy or not! LOL. congrats again...good luck. oh, on the westins...i got the platinum cps's. i like them a lot as far as ease of install and functionality. black is fine, i just didn't want matte black steps on my gloss black truck. and chrome looked good. bottom line: you'll like the westins...
Got ny black westin nerf bars yesterday for $195. Not too bad to put on, took about 2 hours with quite a bit of beer. The hadrdest part was getting the welded bolt bracket into the frame on the drivers side, all the brake lines run down there. I loosened the bracket and got it in, but not without getting alot of that frame wax all over my arms and hands. Oh well, they look good. Hey you were right, the westin insructions are an oxymoron. They suck.
kyle, ryan and others; tell me what you think of this liner on this web site. I saw a truck getting one put in when i got my nerf bars. It looks real nice. Hmmmmm?
My personal use with bed rugs. I dont like them. WHen trying to slide in bricks cement or other things they wont slide. At least with the spray in you can slide it somewhat. Put it this way when i see someone come in to work with a bedrug and a tonneu cover i run the other way. Its a pain in the butt especially if they want their stuff towards the front of the truck you have to either struggle or get in the back and move it all the way up. I would never get one of these things. This is just my opinion from personal experiences. The spray in and drop in would be a much better choice in my opinion.
The guy that installed my Pace Edwards rolltop had one in his S-10. My only suggestion...buy a pressure washer if anything greasy is going into the back of your truck. Can't imagine trying to get the grease off with soap and a water hose. Other than that, the guy was really happy with it as it gave his truck that "show" look. Personally, I went with the utr spray in liner. It matched my two tone black on black perfectly....Where I come from, it's called lava lining.
One of the reasons that I got the '00 Denali was cuz all of the Yukons had those ugly, dull colored rims with GMC printed on them in red...totally disgusting while the Denali came with six spoke chrome that would look good even on the rado...
Ryan-
Congrats on the install of your tail light guards. I'll even drink a beer to that..LOL. Ever thought of adding some go fast parts? To go along with those look good parts...wouldn't want to think you were a rice burner....Hehehe.
I have a Bedrug. Love it. As Ryan said, things don't slide around all the time ... that's an advantage. Comfortable for sleeping when camping if necessary, too.
>I would be interested to hear you thoughts on the aluminum tires.<
They tend to dent more than rubber, and tend to have really bad traction.

My 99 Reg Cab Longbed 4x4 Base Model, 4.8L 5spd, 25,000 miles, AC, PDL, CC, Sliding RR Window, Locking Diff, Carpets, Aluminum Wheels, Camper Mirrors is about $21,500 retail and $16,500 wholesale.

Next we can discuss something interesting like:
The affects of final drive ratio on top speed or,
The weight of aluminum wheels vs. steel wheels.

1. Pull into Jiffy Lube when mileage reaches 3000 since last oil change.
2. Go into waiting area and drink free cup of coffee.
3. 15 minutes later, write check for oil change and leave.
Total cost = $20

..Tahoe gets 6.0 325HP..
escalade gets 345HP 6.0!
