Why are you asking for the 36 month numbers when the quote is showing 42/45/48 month terms?

And, $5000 of negative equity will pretty much kill any lease deal. Why trade in a perfectly good CX-5?

They wouldnt quote me on 36 im assuming because they want to get more depriciation value. I really want 36 mos and am going to push for it as i move forward.

My mazda is not pefectly good. Hit and run damage I'll lose equity on if i continue to put miles on even with body work. The SM he can work me a better deal on the trade so hopefully that will help. Also, do they just make up MF #s? He told me 0.00051 not 0.00001.

The dealer can mark up the MF for extra profit.

If you continue to pay on the lease or loan on the Mazda, you'll eventually be even with it.

Paying $5000 for a car you aren't driving isn't a wise decision.

IDK if this is the thread for this comment, but it may help someone out in the same position.

Depending on the lease structure, it could be advantageous to throw negative equity in a lease if im say financing ~$19000 at 8% with exterior damage repairs over 36 mos VS $15000 on a lease over 36 mo...my insurance costs won't change and any equity I may have had in my mazda after 5 years will probably be eaten up by interest + damage depriciation, especially if i don't care about owning a car and plan on continuing to lease.

Thoughts?

Having "been there, done that" (multiple times!), I do understand where you're coming from.

If you stick with any loan long enough, you'll be in a positive equity situation - eventually, the car will be paid off and any value it retains will all be in your favor. But, the emotional pull of something new and shiny can be too difficult to resist.

If you plan to bury the negative equity into a new lease, try to find something that leases very cheap to begin with; that way, negative equity won't hurt you as much.
