1994 Lexus ES300 I know this may sound silly, but does anyone have a clue as to removing the driver side sun visor? It no longer flips up all the way, and the mirror is cracked. I've done breaks, starters, head gaskets, water pumps, etc....thats why it sounds silly. It's my wifes car, and I dont want to mess it up. There is nothing in the repair shop manual. Does it just pull straight out of a socket?
Hi, I had my mechanic remove my Passat ABS module for rebuild. Module Master seems to be the company most people use but BBA Reman charges less. Anyone had experience with BBA Reman or another company? Thanks
I was in a car accident recently in my 2006 Toyota Corolla. I was told by the insurance company that it is worth $14,000 and that my damage is $11,800. The other insurance company was convinced that my car was totaled, along with a few other friends that work on cars. I do not feel comfortable driving myself and my 1 year old son in a car that has suffered significant damage. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get the insurance company to total my car or any suggestions about my situation? Thank you!!
I posted a message in the ford expedition section b/c that is the vehicle in question but I don't know if it was the right place to ask.
I am looking at a 2004 ford expedition xlt. We looked at it in person yesterday it has two flaws that need to be fixed the first is the passenger side mirror which the sales rep says they can replace at my expense but I can get it done cheaper else where so that is a no brianer and its a crack at the bottom of the mirror so not a big issue. The big issue is that the in the middle row the seat behind the driver adjusts when the rep opened the door and fooled w/ the seat he could literally push the seat back and pull it forward w/out using the lever. This to me is a safety issue since I will be the primary driver of my 8 and 5 yr old. I feel the dealer should fix this and not at my expense am I wrong in feeling this way. This is my first time buying a used car the only car that I have bought was brand new.
I have a Volvo S60R that is going off lease this month. I want to buy the car out right, and with the economy the way it is, I think US Bank would do well to negotiate with us on the $22,000 needed for the buyout. Has anyone done this before? How should I do it?
The redesign of the forums site is somewhat counterintuitive. The old design, though not perfect, was certainly much easier to use and locate information.

I agree with you. It used to be easier to find certain forums. Now I have click and look around :confuse:
I bought a Volvo XC90 on Friday. I secured a decent rate on a 5-year loan from my credit union and was prepared to Buy rather than Lease. Without getting into details, I've done the math and don't want to get into a Lease.
However, I went to the dealer today with my check from the Bank and was offered an interesting deal.
1. Sign up for the Lease and get Volvo's current incentive ($5.5K off the purchase price is what I was quoted.) 2. Pay the Lease for 3 months 3. After 3 months, exercise the Purchase Option and terminate the lease. 4. Go back to my bank and finance the car for 5-years.
I did some quick number crunching and it seems that even with the termination fee, I come out on top by about $3K when all is said and done.
Is there a "gotcha" here that I'm not seeing? I'm new to the whole leasing thing.
my current SUV has a remaining loan amount of $9600 but the dealer would only give me $3000 for trade, which means i'm upside-down $6600. would you lease a car and add the $6600 toward the new lease? i asked a dealer about this and he said for a 08 Camry LE plus the $6600 added to the lease would be $350 per month for 36 months. 15k miles with 1500 due at signing. he said without the trade-in, it would be $213 per month.
A Lease Broker says he's keeping my deposit even though we couldn't get a final deal done according to our written contract.
Where should I post to get answers and experience on dealing with how to get legal relief when dealing with car brokers or dealers who hold your deposit for ransom while coercing you into deals that were not part of your written agreement. Thanks for your assistance.
Well you learned a life financial lesson. There is plenty of public information available for you to be an educated consumer to avoid using a lease broker.
Thanks. I agree there probably is. I was wondering if you could point me toward the information you know of. Do you know of any link to this information you speak of so I can go read it and figure out what to do.
I am aware it was a stupid mistake. Now I am asking for any help there is available to get out of it if possible. Thanks to anyone who can help!
Do you mean to say I should do a search on the title of my last post to find it. Browsing through all that I only found people with questions negotiating prices. IS there a host or a section dealing with fraud and bad dealers. I'm sure people have run into the same problem I have. Thanks!
I am not aware of any topic directly concerning fraud but the thing to do is to post your question in the topic I referenced rather than just browsing through it to find an answer to a question that hasn't been asked yet. If that doesn't produce results you can always suggest a new topic in Smart Shopper - Suggest a topic of discussion.
I was working with a lease broker. Long story short - we sort of worked out a car I was going to lease, but the buyback of my existing car fell through with the broker. So no deal was ever reached and no car was delivered as a result.
I have a signed contract with him that states the deposit is fully refundable if we cannot make a deal by October 4th. That date is past and he says he will not return my deposit. He says he has "expenses" and that he traded for a car at a dealer and now that dealer is mad at him. I repeatedly told him not to buy anything because our negotiations on the buyback of my car did not work out.
I know it's my fault for trusting the guy and actually giving a deposit. Duh!
Now that's out of the way, I can simply ask if anyone knows a lawyer that can help me in California. OR any other suggestions from people who have had successful dealing with crooked car lease brokers.
IF you put your deposit on a ccard, dispute it. If not, call your state's attorney general and the better business bureau.
BUT, as tidester already said twice, post your question in an appropriate forum, such as purchasing strategies or sales frontlines. There are plenty of people willing to help you in either place. This forum is only for help locating those other forums. Have a great day, and good luck!
Hosts, I have 2 suspicious emails in my @carspace email account. 1 One is supposedly from Paypal. (I don't use this email for my paypal account) The other is supposedly from Merchants National Bank. (I have no accounts in this Ohio bank.)
A few weeks ago I got a PHONE CALL from someone claiming to be from PayPal and asking me to "verify" my PIN number (they knew my name!). It is astonishing what people will try. I seriously doubt PayPal knows anything about it and likewise for Merchants National Bank or our own site for that matter. I get spam like that from email accounts that I don't even use! It's called "phishing" and everyone is urged to use extreme caution when the phishers strike.
As we have no Roadmaster-specific discussions, your best bet would be to post your question in the Got a Quick, Technical Question? discussion. The knowledgable folks who hang out there should be able to give you an assist!

I highly doubt that he actualy bought a car. Especialy if you had a trade and that needed to be worked in the equation. I am just curious, can you list the brokers company name so i can google and see what size of a deposit they require. I would definately contact a lawyer because it doesn't sound like he met his side of the agreement.
we ordered an a3 back in july. the car just came in but i don't know if we are in a position to take delivery. does anyone know what are legal options are? can we back out of the transaction? we gave the dealership a credit card for a $1000 deposit but it was never processed. don't want to screw the salesman but not sure what we can do. thanks.
Someone did a hit and run to my truck while it was parked in my apartment complex here at school, and left shattered pieces of one of their headlamps. I was wondering if people might recognize the make of car from pics of the headlamp.
We tried this (without success, unfortunately) a while back over in Mystery car pix..... You may have enough pieces there for the members to figure our the make/model - maybe not, but it's worth a try.
Please do not laugh---but I would resort to (in the wee dark hours of the night) I taking the remains of the broken headlight (cover?) and see if I could match it to someone's car or pickup. If this didn't work (or you get in trouble doing this dastardly deed---which---by the way was done to you first) then I would consider taking the remains to the major car dealerships parts dept and see if it could be recognized by those who work there---It's a shame that we must resort to being devious---but---I guess I would NOT rest until I caught the culprit!! In fact I will sometimes make a note of the tag of the car next to me if I plan on parking in a parking lot in which there are cars/trucks leaving at various times----i.e., a university or apartment complex parking lot, etc. Sure wish we all were nice enough to leave a note if we do something wrong---but not today, sadly . Hope you can figure this out--or just chalk it up to misfortune. Good luck.
Many headlights, at one time, had a DOT number on it. It included a year, because I think each headlight had to be 'certified' with a DOT test. And this number was imbedded in the lens. If the same lens was used on multiple years, it would carry the same number across multiple years.
This number could be used by someone to tell the make and approximate model of auto. If the part you have has this number, it might at least narrow down the year...
I don't know if this is the right place to post this question. Please feel free to move it to the correct forum.
I'm interested in an 08 car that has sit in dealer's lot for 10 months. When I test drove it a few days ago, it showed 37 miles. I did notice flat spots on the tires and the manager agrees compensation on tires. The price of the car is pretty good.
I'm not sure whether to take it or not. The color is not a very popular color but it's ok with me. I'm more worried of any mechanical problems for a car that has sit in lot for so long.
I don't think the fact that it has been sitting on the lot is a big deal. My main concern would be about the deal. I hope it is aggressive.
Manager says he'll replace the tires, that's great. Have them change the oil too. Don't plan on trading out of it soon because you are already buying a vehicle 1 year old. His deal should be VERY aggressive.
In addition to the tires, I would definitely want a new battery. The 10 months would age this worse than anything else on the car.
Remember, you will still get the 36 month/36,000 mile (or whatever it carries) factory warranty starting from the time you drive it off the lot, just like a new from the factory 2009.
I plan to purchase a new car in the future, and don't plan to finance through the dealership (or my own bank). I live in California.
I know the dealership will want me to finance through them, but I won't.
Given all of the identity theft problems today, I don't want to provide the dealership by SSN, and shouldn't have to since I'm not financing through them (or anyone for that matter).
Do you know the laws in California about that? Since, I know that the DMV does not require a SSN to register a vehicle, I don't think the dealership can require it.
My husband I have leased cars in the past and usually have an idea of what we want to pay monthly.. We current lease a Rav 4 and our TL lease is over in 2-09. We have been think about a Mazda 6, (Grand Touring since it comes with all we want navigation not need) The Honda EX v6 ( problem cant get Blue tooth without Nav) and even the new TL we havent seen it person yer. My question How do you know what a fair lease price is Do you tell the sales person you want to buy so the price is lower Can you please list my tips Thank you

The MSRP is $31,000, invoice $29,500. Cash back from manufacturer is about $3,750. Dealer offers $24,650 (including the compensation of tires).

I'm afraid to put the savings I get now into future repairs costs due to this car not being driven for 10 months.
