The sale price is not the same as the adjusted cap cost - that is the sale price plus any taxes and fees you aren't paying up front.

If, however, some of that $8K in equity is going to first payment, taxes, fees, etc, then the cap reduction will be less than $8K.

Best to ask the dealer for a screen shot of their lease worksheet - that will have all the numbers necessary to decipher the deal.

If you simply return the car at the end of the lease, that is correct.

However, you can sell the car to a dealer or to an organization like Vroom, Carvana or CarMax and be paid market value, and pocket the difference between the sale price and the lease buyout.

Be advised that some brands prohibit you from doing this.

It wasn't a lease trade in, it was a different dealer, and the book vue of my car was way above buyout. The way the salesman explained it they would offer me 43k for my Lexus trade-in and the lease buy out was 34k. So somewhere along the line that $8000 disappeared in the deal. The very next dealer I went to offered me $1000 more ony trade and applied it all to the cap cost reduction of the new lease. 🤷🏻‍♂️

At this time, Vroom won't buy any leased vehicles. As far as we know, Chrysler still allows any dealer to purchase their leases. That could certainly change at any time.

No, you'll see the $6500 accounted for as a CAP cost reduction. It's listed this way, because the rebate is subject to sales tax. By showing it in the Due at Signing, and as a CAP cost reduction, it triggers the lease program to apply sales tax to the rebate.
