ryan's story is a case in point about what i was trying to say. it's not mentioned in the story, but it's very possible the tech didn't align the arms right and it went up supported by the nerfs. a little weight shifting as the lift comes to a stop and walah...just be careful...

ryan...i haven't decided if i'm going to go that far back yet. there's no distinct line back there to follow, so it might look kinda dumb. under the door, i'll just wrap it right around onto the sills...no biggie. so...i doubt it, but we'll see.

Can anyone tell me just what a "snow plow prep" means. I got 3 different answers from 3 different salesmen. Some say along with an aux light switch, that it's just a larger alt, larger radiator, and trans cooler.
I heard that it has different front springs, but then one guy told me that it's the same springs as any other half ton, but that they are "torsioned" different.
The reason I ask is that there is a 2k Silverado with all of the options that I want, except it has this snow plow prep, and fender flares.
Also, can you take those fender flares off without leaving marks or holes exposed?
I have an 01 two tone black pewter ordered, but the dealer will give me this one with a 1k rebate, and a coupon for $500 in gas. I'm getting a GMS price, so there is no dickering with the cost.

for the info on westins and lifts. Your westins look extra shart with the two-tone. Tim thanks for the link. They are really nice. I am leaning toward the chrome westins. I have yours, bco, and Ryans photos on my favorites file, but I wanted a comparison with the black and chrome. The boards are tops but price is a little steep for me.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't a lot of tool boxes leave a space below so you can slide things such as plywood, 2 x 4's etc under and still close the tail gate?

..with a short box...I have to have the tailgate down anyway...but while the box is up a bit...it would only allow about 8 sheets or so.....bug deal...I have already got about 72 sheets and am getting 36 more this weekend.....plus moving large objects would make it worse as well

I'd like to have one.....but an 8 foot box is too gramps for me...

Please some one tell that they have pulled the same dumb [non-permissible content removed] stunt that I have and knocked the RH outside mirror off of their truck?? Do do I feel dumb, any idea about the cost of replacement? I have '99 2500 SL, broke the plastic housing around the chrome and the mirror shattered and fell out. Any help? Thanks!!!

The only way to go is to design and build a custom stainless steel box. Those diamond aluminum boxes corrode with any kind of chemical hitting them...black diamond will peel. Stainless will last longer than the truck and can be used on your next rado..

Last I heard replacement was about $85 for the mirror not including labor cause it's a [non-permissible content removed] to change out.

This is what is written in the ordering guide,

SNOW PLOW PREP PROVISIONS: Includes Roof Mounted Lamp Provisions, 130 Amp Generator, Heavy Duty Transmission Cooling System and Heavy Duty front springs.

The GM code for this option is VYU.

The button for the lamp is located beside the on/off key hole for the pass. air bag.

I have had black powder-coated nerf bars and also chrome nerf bars on my previous trucks. The black ones looked good until the rock chips started rusting and the paint peeled off. Twice I had to take them off, sand them down and repaint them. The chrome ones were better but eventually the rock chips started to rust some. Wax did not seem to stop the rusting. My next set for my '00 rado will be stainless.

Just my $.02 worth.

on Friday. Awesome setup, impressive quality, cut my Gibson system in itty bitty pieces for revenge of having 8 months of cab resonance. Got my low end torque back plus big block, deep sounding idle and no cab resonance. This system had dyno'd 20 hp increase over Flowmasters. Personally can't say as I never had flowmasters. Seat of the pants tell me that its way better than Gibson, actually no comparison.

The extra cooling I believe is the same as Z71 and the roof beacon mounting seems to require lowering the headliner (PITA)to find the coiled up, blunt cut and taped ends for power and ground. I was unable to find a different part numbers in the microfiche for VYU and Z71 torsion bar springs, maybe some help here.

Tim is absolutely correct that these are a high maintanence item. Will no doubt have to take mine off every spring to sand and re-epoxy paint the bottom and front of elbows...they over-use road salt here in RI too. So much for Save the Bay! Hey, it's SALT WATER!

That's good to hear, before I ordered my Hd crewcab with the Duramax I was thinking about going with the 6.0 and Zummo exhaust. I'm glad to hear that the system is as good as they said it was. With the Duramax trucks being slow to come out, I may be wishing I'd gone with the 6.0.
Not really I wanted the Duramax/Allison anyway.

I kinda remember but is still vague. I remember posting a link for it but the shipping charges were too high. The site was gmpartsdirect.com. You could also check with your local dealer. If you need the part number just post to let me know and I'll rummage through my notes.

I have an airaid system on my truck. Dyno'd results showed net increase of 1 hp. That's a joke compared to the hp increase posted by airaid and k&n. I would believe the 1 hp cause was an independent test. There are two others that you could look into. Volant and K&N FIPK. Volant is cheaper than the other two and looks like it would work better as you change out the complete air intake from the MAF to the motor and dump the weird looking one that's currently on your truck. Airaid gives the least bang for the buck. my $.02. A downside to this was another independent survey done by a mining operation which had the k&n installed on their HD vehicles. Oil analysis showed a higher content of contamination in the oil on the trucks with the K&N versus the trucks that ran the stock air filter. They were trying to see if they could save on filter costs by switching to k&n. Needless to say, they changed back to stock.

I know the heavy duty air filter that comes with the Z-71 package is really just an upgrade to the filter. My question is which filter has better air flow the stock filter or the heavy duty one?

Logic would tell me the heavy duty one would be more restrictive. If this is the case I may switch to the regular filter when I change. I don't drive in dusty conditions very often and filters are cheap enough to replace every 25K.

Anyone know what the difference is?

14 months...and my indicator has barely moved since new....why mess with it and put in a system you are going to wish you didn't buy?

thanks...i was just trying to elicit something more than "yes" or "no". have you had a bad experience with one (or know someone who has)? the other thing is...i don't drive in exceptionally dusty conditions. so, the story about the mining company really doesn't create a whole lot of stress for me. i'm not thinking that mine is bad, but with the FIPK (which, thanks to oby, i now know what that stands for) some have been getting some pretty nice increases in gas mileage. i could really go for that, and the idea of a system that i can take out, clean, and reinstall without having to buy anything is pretty nice. reason i asked is i wanted to know if it was snake oil or not. no previous experience. thanks...

...But it comes down to a sponge that has no real value for holding dirt..only allowing air to flow better....so it gets oiled up to hold dirt...too little..and the dirt is passing thru...too much and it's allowing oil to get sucked in via the intake..

I dunno ace.....as I've said...hot rodding trucks ain't for me....as for mileage...well...I knew what I was getting into before I bought...

Question for those of you who ordered...
I've been told I need to turn over $500 to get my order started. Obviously, I don't want negotiate the sales price after the truck has been built and delivered. So, what sort of paperwork will I be looking at to guarantee I will be paying an agreed upon sales price?

2nd: Anyone have the factory available tonneau cover?

Planned Order: 2001 Carmine Ext Cab Short box 1500 LT Z71 with neutral leather. 5.3l, 3.73 locker (with tonneau cover?).

When I placed my order I got a firm price.

GM's sticker price went up, but not my price. I paid $400 over invoice price at the time of the order.

biggest regret i had was taking the salesman's word for it. it worked out fine...but hindsight being 20/20, i should have gotten something in writing. about the best i could've done would be to produce an email with an agreed upon price. not sure how "legal" that would be though. we agreed on the price, i sent him a check for $500 and everything worked out fine. i would recommend getting a simple letter or memo signed by the sales manager (not salesman) saying this is the price, regardless of if and/or how much gm hikes it between now and then.

I did put money down (1K) for the heck of it. In retrospect id do the same thing again.

Paperwork all i got was a reciept of deposit and a worksheet stating options and total price after tax. Only thing that changed was the delivery fee before i purchased. About a wk after the order the salesman called to tell me it went up $25. No biggie

seems to be pretty standard... mainly to make sure you are serious about buying the truck. They will probably tell you that they won't cash the check, just hold it. They will cash the check, trust me. They will then say, "Oh, gee, Marcie wasn't supposed to do that. Gee, we're sorry." Figure on them cashing the check and go on with your life. Definitely get something in writing verifying the agreed upon price. They will expect you to pay any price increases between the time you order and the time it is built. You can reject the order and not pay the increase, but then you just have to start over again, and you'll pay the increase anyway. Unless, of course, your dealer eats the additional cost which, while possible, is not probable.

When I went into my dealer and told them I wanted to order a new 2001 Silverado, they took me to see the new truck sales manager, and I sat down and talked directly to him. We went thru all the options via his computer and when it was done he printed out the "Chevrolet Vehicle Detail" list. At the end of this list I had him write on it Invoice + $500 + T&L as the total price. I then gave him a check for $500 as the deposit. I've got copies of the Vehicle List and of my deposit check.
Only problem is that was in July. GM is not making two-tones until Nov, so I'm still waiting for my order to get accepted.
