...still has the Bulldog mascot. I recall seeing a 1926 Mack. A small plate had a picture of a bulldog chewing up a stack of papers that read "Hauling Costs." A broken muzzle was lying on the ground next to the bulldog.

Anything totally upright doesn't look good on a sleek modern car I mean. We've gone from leggo blocks to melted ice cream.

At least Cadillac stands out for its design, whether you like it or not. You can recognize the car from the pack usually (most models). That's good.

    Cadillac's evolutionary throwback

    http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=119366?tid=edmun- ds.il.home.photopanel..1.*

    What this means to me:

If I was rich enough I'd love to own one for a work or traveling car. You just can't beat the luxury this car offers for 4-seasons and the price. ;)

I could care less whether Edmunds editors call DTS drivers smelly old men, cologned chauffers, or Mary Kay salesladies. The Cadillac DTS is Number One on my new car shopping list closely followed by the Buick Lucerne CXS. I'm only 41 and find the car exponentially desirable.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
I knew you'd like it. Obviously many others young and old do also. I'd love to have one pal. Put the cruise on 75 mph, turn on the massage seats with heat or
ventilation (AC seats) put a CD in the dash and relax in luxury. Those pillow soft leather seats would be awesome mile munchers. I'd have plenty of room for the wife and kids.

    My take:

If it had 400 horsepower and RWD/AWD like the 08' CTS AWD option it would be a top on my list. Perhaps the next DTS will fit that bill ???? The rumor says that anyways. I'd also like to see a 2-mode hybrid option for fuel economy. The "Ultra" V8 is suppose to have 400+ hp as the base hp rating. Hopefully we will see a RWD/AWD DTS like sedan by then. The only other option I would want on the current DTS, and I haven't checked the 07's is the Bose 5.1 surround sound. It is however a very nice car and like I said if I had the extra dough I'd love to own one
    "just because" :shades:

And, fall asleep. Don't think its good to have the golden seniors from Sun City get so relaxed while driving. Would think that market for soft riding luxury such as DTS might be shrinking as baby boomers reach their senior years and will seek cars that have both performance and luxury. A lot of these folks had sports, sporty type cars, good handling foreign makes. They never aspired to big, cushy, numb barges.

Looks like Edmunds review of DTS does not help Cadillac to attain/regain world standard image as their closing remarks mentioned obsolescense.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
The current DTS, won't be around for munch longer. I give it about 3 years and it will be replaced by a RWD/AWD alternative

Lexuses (except for the IS300) are boring and isolating, not cushy and numb. The difference between vanilla and marshmallow.

A 41-year-old aspiring to an old-school land barge like the DTS is about as commonplace as the 70-something guy I see riding around in an RSX (he must have enjoyed British roadsters in his earlier years). If you went to a DTS meet, the other owners would be trying to palm their divorced 50-something daughters off on you.

I'm a little older than your example (44) but I'm one of those aspiring to something like a cushy DTS. I was born old, however.

    Yuck, aaghh, barf, puke...

Was driving west on I90 in center lane (of 3 lane) and maybe a half-block away noticed something pink in right lane. Was catching up to it. Got even with it and it was a pink Cadillac, DTS I think, with words Mary Kay stencilled in two spots. A blond haired lady holding a cell phone in left hand was driving it.

There ought to be a law against that. Thought that DTS Caddys with padded tops and whitewall tires were goofy looing, but this pink Cad tops those.

Does Cadillac paint these cars pink out of factory or is this an aftermarket job? If painted by Cadillac factory, they might as well kiss any desire they might have for Standard of World goodbye. No way would BMW or Mercedes ever allow a similar sacriledge to their cars.

Top sales level at Mary Kay always means a pink Caddy.

The next level down was a platinum Bonneville. Not sure what they give now since the bonneville is gone.

Well now way back in the Bible
    Temptations always come along
    There's always somebody tempting
Somebody into doing something they know is wrong
Well they tempt you, man, with silver
And they tempt you, sir, with gold
And they tempt you with the pleasures
That the flesh does surely hold
They say Eve tempted Adam with an apple
But man I ain't going for that
I know it was her pink Cadillac
    Crushed velvet seats
    Riding in the back
    Oozing down the street
    Waving to the girls
    Feeling out of sight
    Spending all my money
    On a Saturday night
Honey I just wonder what it feels like in the back
    Of your pink Cadillac

Yes, it's a purely custom job done for Mary Kay. It's so that everyone knows that they are the best salesperson(more like top of the pyramid - oh - sorry - multi-level-marketing) :P

We get a few highlighter-green GM and Ford trucks around here for the forest service as well. The local fire marshal uses the same burnt reddish orange that they have for 30 years I think.

Btw, nice picture :) Gotta love the classics :)

I have been accused of being a GM basher because of my past posts. I haven't participated in this blog for a while, mainly due to my attention being diverted to other things because of the holidays, etc.. however I would like to point out something.. Check out this blog regarding General Motors

    Yahoo Answers-GM discussion blog

What does the above hyperlink have to di with the topic on this blog? It leads me to believe that General Motor's Cadillac never was the standard of the world when it comes to quality, perhaps style, but certainly not quality. Americans are quite an insular group. Even if the Cadillac was a popular seller at one time, that doesn't mean it ever sold well in other countries. Isn't that what world means here, the collective sales of automobiles in all countries?

Standard of the "world" in this case may have something to do with what country you live in.

If you check my posts 9 and 16 in this forum, you will find that I said from the beginning that Cadillac was never the standard of the world in the sense that this forum is getting at. I'm not sure any car has really ever been "the standard of the world".

    Air Bags

Dual-stage driver and front passenger, front-impact, 360° perimeter sensing system and Automatic Occupant Sensing System*

Escalade's standard air bag deployment consists of a dual-stage driver's front air bag and a dual-stage front passenger air bag with passenger occupant detection system, roof-mounted head curtain side air bags–with tethers–for both the first and second row, and a separate similar system for the third row.

    Audio and Video Systems

Premium Bose 5.1 Discrete Surround Sound System, dual-play (CD/DVD) radio, AudioPilot® noise compensation technology; in-dash, single-load, 6-disc changer and 10 speakers equalized to Escalade's interior; top slot DVD-Audio/Video, CD Audio/Video, MP3; bottom slot 6-disc CD changer and MP3*

Bose 5.1 Discrete Surround Sound System
Escalade's cabin quietness sets the stage for an extraordinary and unexpected multi-media entertainment experience. A standard Bose® 5.1 Discrete Surround Sound System uses six distinct channels to provide concert quality sound that replicates the experience of a home theater system. Pure sound without distortion makes prolonged listening a pleasure.

Our engineers worked closely with Bose® to design and configure the sound system, optimizing speaker locations and tuning the system specifically for Escalade's interior. The result is superb imaging and spectral response, reproducing the power and nuance of each instrument and voice and delivering music with clarity, spaciousness and detail—for each occupant of the vehicle!

An auxiliary input jack in the center console provides plug-and-play capability through the sound system for external devices such as an MP3, remote CD/cassette player or video game. Seats for the driver and front passenger are heated, as are the standard second-row buckets. The available second-row bench seats include heated seat cushions for the outboard positions. Drivetrain

    -All-wheel-drive system with single-speed, open-differential transfer case, 40/60 front/rear torque split and full-time operation

    Engine Type

-Gen IV 6.2L Vortec V8 VVT: 403 hp at 5700 rpm and 417 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm*

Gen IV 6.2L Votec V8 VVT Engine

A forged steel crankshaft, held securely with six-bolt mains, provides the strength to handle the 6.2L V8's horsepower and torque while contributing to its smooth, quiet operation. This theme is carried to the exterior of the engine, indeed, throughout the whole powertrain; engine mounts are hydraulic (as opposed to the hunks of hard rubber one might expect) and are tuned to the engine's combustion cycle at low rpm, where any engine runs least smoothly. The results include Escalade's quiet idle and graceful low-speed cruising.

    Transmission

-Hydra-Matic 6L80 heavy-duty 6-speed automatic transmission with electronically controlled shifts plus Driver Shift Control manual mode, Performance Algorithm Shifting (PAS) and tow/haul mode*

    6-Speed Automatic Transmission

With six speeds, that include two overdrives, Escalade's new automatic transmission selects a ratio that fits both driver demand and the vehicle load. Driver Shift Control puts the fun of a manual at your fingertips, while tow-haul mode reduces that annoying feeling of "hunting" for the right ratio while driving in the mountains as well as during towing. Tailored for the heavy-duty requirements of an SUV, a standard transmission oil cooler is also included.

    Brakes

-4-wheel discs with Bosch 8.0 Anti-lock Braking System, twin-piston front calipers*

    4-Channel ABS

Designed in conjunction with Escalade's traction control and Stabilitrak system, a new and highly refined disc brake system provides a secure pedal feel and excellent braking performance on a wide variety of surfaces. Incorporating strengthened caliper housings, a system optimized master cylinder with active brake booster, and larger-diameter vented rotors, the system provides the strength and cooling proper ties to match Escalade's power and load capacity but requires less brake pressure. A Bosch 8.0 ABS system provides quiet, unobtrusive operation.

    StabiliTrak

-Computer-controlled, 4-channel electronic stability control system with rollover mitigation

    Suspension

    -Automatic electronic rear-level control system

    -Road-Sensing Suspension - Coil-over-shock front/5-link rear with bi-modal mono-tube shocks and computer-controlled real-time damping*

    Suspension Components

The highly refined five-link rear suspension delivers damped, isolated road feel (in keeping with the front suspension's virtues) while using strong yet lightweight steel to take a variety of load-carrying scenarios in stride. Front and rear, Escalade's Road sensing Suspension system of computer-controlled monotube shock absorbers provides apt suspension response to just about any driving condition, with specific damping to enhance control during higher-speed turns and over uneven surfaces.

There is not a feature on the GMC Yukon Denali that the Escalade doesn't have except I think 2. If you closely examine both Like I have just done for the past hour and half I don't see one advantage for the Yukon Denali except for the availability of skid plates and off-road tires.

The Escalade as it should have more Gadgetology, has 23 more horses, and it's more of a Luxury Truck. It has a higher MSRP, a different even more upscale interior with more bling and luxury. If it didn't it wouldn't be the King of Luxury SUV's.

If you or anyone else can find any other advantage of a Yukon Denali over a Cadillac Escalade, please lemme know. The only advantage I can see are the two features I listed which will not make a difference if money is no object. I'm positive one can buy aftermarket Off-Road Tires and Skid Plates for the Slade. The Yukon Denali, offers a lot of luxury for the dollar thus is very popular among SUV buyers that want a lot of content for their money. The Escalade was built to a standard. It is "The Standard of the World" when it comes to SUV's and having the only real Luxury Truck. The GMC Sierra Denali, does offer more utility and thus might steal some EXT sales but not enough to make Cadillac worried. If I was wealthy enough and could justify it I'd pony up for the Cadillac Escalade but a mid $60K sticker with every option is out of reach for my budget. The Cadillac ESV is my favorite and since Cadillac, is now making a "Platinum Edition" my mouth waters even more. The ESV Platinum is in deed the ultimate Family Vehicle in terms of Pure Luxury, People and Cargo Room, Gadgetology.

Maybe someday I will get the oppertunity to own such a great vehicle. ;)

I know that the Caddy is better than the GMC, but I think the whole reason I said something about it was that you said that if GM bought Chrysler, Dodge would fit somewhere between Chevy and GMC, moving GMC more upscale. I simply stated that GMC is already very similar to the Caddy and I didn't know how much more upscale you could make it without having redundant trucks.

I think their is some room to grow for GMC, as I'd still ike to see Cadillac offer some more new gadgets found on other makes such as a global positioning climate control system like found on the Acura MDX, I'd like to see this new navigation map technology also be added to Cadillac, that will find it's way into Lexus products real soon. I'd like to see air conditioned rear seats along with massage function for both front and 2nd row passengers. These are just a few technologies that could move Cadillac apart from GMC further.

I see two features I'd like to see in Denali versions of the GMC's which would be the Bose 5.1 surround sound system and Ventilated Seats both that are found on the Escalade. ;)

With the next SRX, should cadillac go sporty like the X5, FX45, and MDX, or should it go Lambda?

As long as there are 7 usable seats, I'm good for it.

    Good question.

Lamda is a good vehicle but too big relative to the Escalade which they should keep.

Another CUV based on the Sigma would be best and stay sporty like the X5, etc. (MDX sporty???)

At the car connection (look in news section) Lutz seems to indicate that the zeta platform may replace the sigma. I have also seen suggestions that the SRX will move to the lambda platform after the CTS wagon is in production. The sigma platform may only be used on the 2008 CTS, with coupe and wagon CTS's added. A next generation STS may be either zeta or sigma. The next DTS will probably be zeta. A V12 Cadillac sedan will probably be zeta, as the sigma may not have the space for a longer engine.

What if cadillac got a smallish SUV to compete with the acura Rdx, Bmw x3, Infiniti fx35

and a midsize SUV thats like X5, MDX,(IMO the NEXT SRX would be perfect here)

    On the smaller one,
Built off of the SSR's platform with the 3.6l v6.

RWD and AWD, 260hp 260lb ft of torque
5 Passenger that looks like an expensive Equinox and GMC acadia mixed.

I am confused at GM and the BLS. The BLS is based on the 9-3 platform. They have the Sedan, and now the wagon. The only thing they have left is the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. I refuse to say it as that is really upsetting to think about...

Sometimes the cars they get in europe should really come to the states. In this case, i think Lutz may have messed this one up... A, A4/3series sized convertible is something cadillac could use to boost sales.

I think GM is thinking of it like acura. The bigger TL (The Cts) gets a little brother that has a sportier intention gets released and are unsure weather or not to bring it over. Acura did and now it is their 3rd best selling model.
