It isn't used in negotiation.

It caps the MSRP for purposes of calculating the residual amount.

In this example, the maximum residual is 69% of $125,000, even if the MSRP exceeds that number. For units with an MSRP below the MRM, there is no effect.

Wow, didn't realize Porsche Boxster's had such horrible lease terms. Looks like it might have to be a different vehicle for me, as I need to lease for work. I know US Bank does some leasing, do they have better rates and residuals on these?

I understand that if I'm under the MRM I'm fine, but what if you're not?

I completely understand what MRM is and why financial institutions implement it, but if I have a + $9k difference between MSRP and MRM for the model I'd like to lease, how is this overage handled contractually?

Do you pay the difference in cash at inception, etc.???

I've searched, and I can't find a single scenario where this is explained anywhere online.

We don't have any info on 2022 Cayennes, except for the e-hybrid models.

But, here is a scenario:

Assume the residual is 60%
Without an MRM, your residual would be $69,600 (60% of $116K)
With the MRM, your residual is $64,200 (60% of $107K)
This difference in residual will increase the depreciation by $5400 over what it would normally be (w/out an MRM). That's $150/mo. higher payment for 36 months.

Another scenario:
You pick a unit that has $107K MSRP
(for our scenario, your selling price is MSRP)
Assume .00200 for MF and 60% residual
$1531/mo, not including taxes and fees

Pick a unit that has $116K MSRP
$1799/mo. (assuming $107K MRM)

For an MSRP that is just 8.4% higher, your payment is 17.5% higher.
That is the effect of the MRM. Artificially restricting the residual.

No, the dealer will have current lease programs for that model, even if we don't get the information.

Not really.

If the MSRP of the vehicle you are considering is under the MRM, then you don't need to adjust.
If your MSRP is above the MRM, then enter the MRM as the MSRP. That will give you the proper residual.
